Though quinine is notorious for tinnitus,it's nt the oly drug that has adverse effect on the ear. Remember this dude was admitted on account of a possible typhoid fever(don't know how D̶̲̥̅̊є̲̣̥y̲̅ came at the diagnosis sha). Unless the health care personnel was treating for a possible malaria,knowing fully well that here is a malaria endemic area. I'm thinking of a possible overdose of gentamicin or any of it's brothers in the same class with it. But genticin is also nephrotoxic(can harm the kidney). The bottom line is that since we don't av this guy's detailed history,we cannot categorically say wot actually went wrong. We are just using our medical intuition to give a possible explanation to the guy's problem.

proffmanue: I had a terrible typhoid fever in 2008, I was hospitalized in a private clinic. The Doctor said I was not responding to treatment, I could not walk by myself without support. I don't know the drugs I was treated with but I survived. After 2 days of my discharge from the hospital, my ears were ringing, eventually my left ear could not hear again till date.
Does anyone have idea what drug could have done this and if it could be reversed? Thks

It's ur right to know the name of every single drug a doctor gives u. We av a lot of poorly trained doctors,doctors with outdated knowledge,and chances are high dt u meet them in the private hospitals. So u av2b careful wen u source4medical care4rm a doctor who is not a specialist. I don't even want to talk abt others who are not doctors or pharmacists but parade themselves as experts in therapeutics. There are several drugs which are ototoxic(can damage the ear);mayb u av bin given an overdose of such drugs. Mind u it's nt just receiving the overdose that harms,there are other factors that are considered when u're to receive any drug for a long time or in a large dose to avert any possible toxic effect. I think u should go and see an otorhinolaryngologist(ear,nose and throat specialist). Let them mk adequate assessment of ur condition to know how best to help u. U most likely will see them in teaching hospitals or federal medical centres. It'z well.

2sExy1: Quinine... a foolish doctor gave me over dose, my mum was not around and those around me didn't care much and where less knowledgeable. it affected my ears and almost made me deaf. The right ear never returned to normal... I receive calls only on my left ear and it does most of the hearing for 14 years now. The right one still hears but sounds are like when you deep your ears inside water. I wish there was a solution. I don't like the hearing aid.

U shud av sued the doctor for malpractice!!! Are u kidding me;wot kind of doctor was that?? What was even the indication for the quinine in the first place It's not like quinine has a popular use in modern day medicine except in few cases in Paediatrics and Obstetrics. All these still happen in this part of the world coz Nigerians are not yet litigious. It'z well dear.

UPDATE: PCMs should start receiving their call up numbers by SMS from the first week in October provided the service fee was paid.

P.S: I can also tell y'all-by apealing to authority- that the random postings have been scheduled to start from the 29th day of this month(September) and incase you are planing to influence your posting, your jamb registration and the email address you use while registering on the portal will do just fine this time. In fact, your jamb registration is valuable than your mobilization number this time around. Everybody with the right contact can influence their posting with those. Do not waste your time waiting for the mobilization number for you might have been posted before getting it.
