Today on our Financial wellness friday, we shall be looking at 4 essential business nuggets culled from the best personal finance books.

♦️Never start a business just to make money

If you start a business just because you need to make money, it will fail .

Rather you should first focus on needs that people actually have and then find a monetizable solution to it.

Remember,money follows value.

People will only pay for what they need and find valuable.

It’s common advice that you should just do what you love but according to 'The Millionaire Fastlane' you should only start a business around what people want.

Most entrepreneurs completely ignore what their target audience wants and try to instead just sell whatever they personally like.

♦️The Commandment of Scalability”:

Ensure that whatever business you’re starting is easy to scale, if for example you open up a carwash and you have a maximum amount of clients that you can serve in a day and you can only do it while the business is open.

Now compare it with other businesses that are easier to scale like online businesses where the amount of clients you can reach in a day is limitless and you can operates 24 hours,

♦️Have weekly, monthly and even annual income goals but focus on your daily income goal.

When buying stuff, you shouldn’t think just in terms of the currency but rather in how many hours it took you to work for that money.

This will stop you from buying stuff you don’t really need or that you won’t even enjoy that much.

6️⃣. They Limit TV Watching

The wealthy do not spend a lot of time watching TV. According to Corley, 67% of the wealthy watch TV one hour or less per day, compared to 23% of the poor. But it’s not that rich people don’t enjoy watching TV, it’s just that it’s not valuable use of their time.

What you should do

Try to cut down on the amount of TV you watch. According to a study by Nielson ,the average person watches 5 hours and 20 minutes of content per day. That is over 35 hours a week you could be spending doing something more productive (like starting a blog!). Limit your TV watching and engage in more valuable activities.

7️⃣. They Ask Questions

The affluent recognize that they don’t know everything, and they don’t mind asking questions. This is usually in the form of some kind of professional advisor.

The rich usually ask for help for anything they don’t know. That’s why they hire professionals like lawyers, accountants, and financial advisors.

You’ll notice that a ton of people in business have life coaches, or business coaches that help them get through the hard times.

This is because they don’t have a problem asking questions and asking for help to make them more money.

What you should do:

You might not have a team of people you can hire to answer your questions like the rich, but the Internet can provide answers to some of your questions.

Do a Google search, post your questions in a forum, or buy a book on the topic you want to learn more about.

8️⃣. They Take Action

Rich people do what needs to be done. They don’t wait for permission and they take action. According to Corley, 81% of rich people do more than their job requires; whereas, only 17% of poor people agree.

What you should do

Take initiative when at work. Go above and beyond your job requirements.

If you see something needs to be done, and you can do it, take action.

Your boss will most likely recognize this ambitious behaviour and reward you for it. It might be in the form of a promotion, raise, or bonus.

9️⃣. They Network

Wealthy people understand the importance of networking.

To be successful, you need to surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Networking can lead to bigger and better opportunities. It can also lead to new and exciting ideas.

Corley found that 79% of wealthy people spend at least 5 hours per month networking, while only 16% of poor people do the same.

What you should do

Try to network consistently. Go to a conference, an after work event, lunch, or even coffee with others who have the same objectives as you.

Even better to network with people who have achieved success in the goals you are trying to achieve.

�. They Never Give Up

Rich people are usually very persistent. They have a goal in mind and do something everyday that helps them get closer to that objective.

Wealthy people are passionate and constantly work towards their goals until they achieve them.

What you should do

It might be very hard, or take a lot of time to achieve your goal; but remember to never give up.

Push through any adversity and stay persistent. With this attitude, you will most certainly achieve your goals.

Final Thoughts

If you want to be successful and have more money you should adopt some of the habits of successful and rich people.

You can’t act like a poor person and expect to be wealthy. Try to develop any of these habits to put yourself in a position to increase your own wealth.

1. The population of Lagos and Ogun State with hit about 30million and 22million respectively.

2. Lagos land will be sold out and the few available will becomes extremely expensive reserved for politicians, highly paid experts (those earning above $5000 monthly), high earning entrepreneurs and business men ( those earning above $10000 monthly)

3. Properties in Ogun state will now be selling in Millions and many low income earners (earning below $500) will not be able to afford it.

4. Cost of present rent would be doubled if not trippled.

5. Artificial Intelligence will become cheap. Unemployment will increase. Many employees will earn lesser than what they are earning now.

6. Unemployment will increase sporadically as a result of artificial intelligence.

7. People born in 1980 will be 50years and many working in Lagos will still be tenants, while some of their children will be married almost certainly as a tenant. Another generation of tenants.

8. People born in 1990 will be 40years and they will begin to buy land, hence land will be more expensive especially in Ogun state because of its proximity to Lagos.

(This 1990 to 1995 generation are about 50% of our current population)

9. Many families will experience divorce or separation as a result of inability to pay ever increasing house rent

10. You will be 10 years older.

If you don't buy land now, you may be setting yourself up for buying it at a more.expensive price by 2030.

♦️They Set Goals

Wealthy people always focus on their goals. Not only do they set goals, but they also write them down and take actions to achieve it. Rich people set annual, monthly, and daily goals.

What you should do:

Set goals for yourself. When setting goals, you want to make sure they are SMART. SMART stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely.

SMART Goals:

You want to make your goals as specific as possible;

Measurable so that you can track your progress and know when you’ve achieved your goal

You want to make your goals realistic and achievable;

Your goals should be relevant to your overall plans in life

Finally, you want your goal to have a time limit where you give yourself a deadline.

Make sure to pen down all your goals.

According to a study done by Gail Matthews at Dominican University of California, those who wrote down their goals accomplished significantly more than those who did not write down their goals.

Next, break down your goals into smaller sub-goals.

Make a plan of how you will achieve your sub-goals — which will lead you to achieving your big goals. To actually achieve your goals, they need to be written out and planned for.

♦️ They Maintain A “To-Do” List

Rich people create goals all the time. Therefore, their action steps are represented in their daily to-do list.

According to Corley, 81% of rich people maintain a daily to-do list. Only 19% of poor people keep a to-do list.

What you should do: Once you create your goals, you need to make an action plan of how you’re going to actually achieve them.

Make a daily to-do list with at least one activity that will bring you a little closer to accomplishing your goal.

However, you need to do more than just make a to-do list. Try and complete most of the tasks on your list each day.

♦️They Exercise

Wealthy people exercise daily because they know the importance of health. They value their health because they understand that’s one of the things money can’t buy.

Being more active and living a healthy lifestyle will ultimately save you money. You will save money because you’ll be spending less on doctor bills and medical expenses.

What you should do:

Try to be active and get aerobic exercise at least 3 times per week.

Join a fitness club ,so you could stay accountable.

Try to watch what you eat and make healthily choices.

The wealthy avoid wasting time on non-productive things.

What you should do:

Try to manage your time more effectively. Don’t waste time on non-productive activities (i.e., social media, unless you make money that way).

You are losing money by engaging in activities that are not productive or do not produce money.

♦️ They Read & Listen To Audiobooks/Podcasts

Rich people are constantly learning and trying to grow more mentally. They spend a lot of time getting more educated about money as well.

The most successful leaders in business and finance read every single day.

Warren Buffet reads 500 pages every day; Mark Cuban reads 3 hours a day; and Bill Gates reads at least 50 books a year.

It’s important to note that they don’t read for fun, they read to get more educated.

Rich people prefer to read non-fiction books, and self-improvement books in particular.

According to Corley, 88% of wealthy people read for self-improvement, verses 2% of poor people who do the same.

Finally, wealthy people read every day because they want to continue to learn.

They understand learning doesn’t stop once you are done with your formal education.

They continue to learn long after college is over, and reading is a key part of their self-education.

What you should do:

With this in mind, you should try and get into the habit of reading and getting more educated.

Start with some books about finances. If you don’t like to read, or don’t have the time, consider listening to audio books.

You can listen to audio books when commuting to work or when you don’t have the time to sit down and read.

There are a lot of land terminologies we come across and hardly know what they mean.

I will be sharing a few of them here and I trust that the next time you come across them you will have a better understanding of what is being communicated.

A cornerpiece plot is located at a road intersection and has border with at least 2 access roads.

Cornerpiece plots are desired for several reasons, for example a cornerppiece plot is the best to show off your architectural masterpiece.

It also offers easier access, and works better for commercial establishments. In addition, cornerpiece plots are usually allocated with some extra land as setbacks for the roads.

It is a region where a group of countries have agreed to reduce or eliminate trade barriers, the basic objective being to enhance foreign exchange earnings, develop export-oriented industries and generate employment opportunities for the host country.

Lekki Free Trade Zone was started during the administration of former Governor of Lagos state, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His successor, Babatunde Fashola, continued the project and the immediate past Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode gave a lot of attention to it. The incumbent Governor – Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to continue the attach priority status to the developmental ongoing projects in that environ of the State.

Things You Need To Know About The Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ).

1️⃣ Area Size: Lekki Free Trade Zone covers a total area of about 155 square kilometers in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, southeast of Lagos, Nigeria, about 50km from the city center. This zone has been designed to become a new Lagos and has been granted a series of preferential policies and incentives, and designated as a special economic zone inside Nigeria.

Lekki Free Trade Zone will provide an ideal platform to open up diverse markets for all Investors and enterprises in the world. It will be a unique landmark of the future development of Lagos state and Nigeria as a whole.

The LFZDC comprises a consortium of Chinese Companies by the name China-Africa Lekki Investment Ltd (CALIL) with 60% stakes and Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited (LWIL) owned by the Lagos State Government holding 40% stakes. Lekki Free Trade Zone is a major catalyst for the development of Lagos state brought about by a collaboration of the Chinese and Nigerian governments.

Currently, the zone is under the management of Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC).

3️⃣ HISTORY MAKING: It is no longer news that the Lekki Free Trade Zone is the first private free trade zone in Nigeria and the biggest in the whole of West Africa.

4️⃣ THE FRONTIER OF TOMORROW’S ENTERPRISE: Lekki Free Trade Zone is going to become the leading hub and major driver of the Nigerian economy and West Africa as a whole by the time all the infrastructure that is planned starts operation.

5️⃣ FAST ATTRACTING INVESTORS: Lekki Free Trade Zone is Facing the Atlantic Ocean in the south and bordering with Lekki Lagoon in the north, which makes it easy to access the Western African market of about 300 million population and the European and USA market with a population of about 600 million. According to The Former Commissioner for Commerce, Industry & Cooperatives, Mr. Rotimi Ogunleye, He said that The Zone had already attracted 116 domestic and foreign Investors, 16 of which had started operating.

6️⃣ LEKKI FREE TRADE ZONE IS THE GROWING ZONE: A World Bank Report, it listed Lekki Free Trade Zone as the fastest growing free zone in the world.

7️⃣ THE BIGGEST JOB CREATION ZONE IN WEST AFRICA: Lekki Free Trade Zone project alone is expected to churn out 300,000 direct jobs and 600,000 indirect jobs with the Dangote Oil Refinery expected to create employment for 235,000 people.
