Celebrities / Is Marko Stout The Next Andy Warhol? by mosesukpong: 1:45pm On Nov 29, 2016
Yes. That’s the simple answer. The Huffington Post recently featured an article titled, “The Next Andy Warhol: An Interview with Marko Stout, where the Post compared the rise of contemporary New York pop artist Marko Stout to that of Andy Warhol, drawing the conclusion that for many reasons Marko Stout is this generation’s Andy Warhol. However, Stout himself remains dismissive of the comparisons stating, “Many critics compare my work to Warhol, but they are wrong it’s my own style- pure Marko Stout, no one else.”

Marko Stout is considered by many to be the quintessential New York artist and up until very recently few outside of NYC knew his name. However after a few high profile exhibitions and sales, the art world and media have taken notice.

Marko Stout’s artwork is a reinvention of the pop movement which was a fad in the 1960s. However, this isn’t just any regular bland reinvention of the pop art theme; Stout is nearly unpredictable; he has a very unique twist to the pop style. His works give off a hardcore, raw, independent, ‘you can’t tell me what to do’ kinda attitude. He portrays the tough, vigorous lifestyle of New York City using ladies as his subjects who often appear to be somewhat in pain, overwhelmed by the chaotic world sounding them all the while maintaining a chic, detached, sexy attitude of a sophisticated twenty-first century urban dweller which distinguishes his works from that of Andy Warhol.

Marko Stout took and still takes New York and the art world by storm with his thought provoking, attention grabbing artworks that seem to have its major focus on a mix of urban myth and a tinge of sexuality.

Marko Stout most recently made the art news with his record breaking sale of sculptures and prints to a Berlin art dealer and night club owner at last spring’s ArtExpo show in New York City. The Redwood Media Group, producers of the exhibition reported the sale to be the largest at the show and the biggest in recent years- and Marko Stout has now moved beyond the local New York City art scene and is now featured in Miami, Berlin, London and other international art cities.

The extensive social media buzz and cult like attention among young art fans, along with the artist’s rising sales and crowded gallery attendance has many in the art community suggesting that this New York artist may indeed be the millennial generation’s Andy Warhol.

Religion / Twitter Turns On TB Joshua After Prophecy Of Hillary Clinton Win by mosesukpong: 10:50am On Nov 09, 2016
About 48hrs ago, a post went viral about a Nigerian Prophet who said he saw Clinton win. TB Joshua, the General Overseer of Synagogue church of All Nations, on live tv during his sunday service said he saw the winner of the U.S Presidential Election and that it would be a woman, but only a slight “narrow win”.

After that prophecy, Nigeria and the world took to that, Today as we look at the Presidential results, it’s clearly the opposite of what TB Joshua prophesied. Angry Nigerians and Africans took a huge fight and a court of insults to twitter and facebook to confront the man of God.

Here are some tweets we got from twitter:

Politics / Senate Rejects Buhari’s Request To Borrow $30 Billion by mosesukpong: 1:41pm On Nov 01, 2016
The Nigerian Senate has rejected President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for authorisation to borrow about $30 billion.

The president, last Tuesday, forwarded a request to the National Assembly to approve external borrowing plan of $29.960 billion to execute key infrastructural projects across the country between 2016 and 2018.

He made the requests in two separate letters to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

Mr. Buhari said the external loan, the biggest in Nigeria’s history, will fund targeted projects cutting across all sectors with special emphasis on infrastructure, agriculture, health, education, water supply, growth and employment generation.

Other sectors, he said, included poverty reduction through social safety net programmes and governance and financial management reforms, among others.

According to him, the cost of the projects and programmes under the borrowing (rolling) plan is $29.960 billion.

This is made up of proposed projects and programmes loan of $11.274 billion, special national infrastructure projects $10.686 billion, Euro bonds of $4.5 billion and Federal Government budget support of $3.5 billion.

The Majority Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, was quoted on Monday as saying that the House would approve the loan.

But The Senate considered the request on Tuesday and refused to give its approval.

More details coming.

Celebrities / Multi Million Naira Fraud Case : Mandators Risks Jail Term, To Appear In Court 2 by mosesukpong: 10:01am On Oct 20, 2016
By Nelson NseAbasi

The 50- year-old Raggae music star, Victor Essiet, of The Mandators fame is expected to appear in court following his failure to honour the ruling of the Court and the binding of an undertaken he signed, to pay back the sum of money he falsely obtained from a business man on a transaction that went bad some years backhttp://www.premiumherald.com/2016/10/20/multi-million-naira-fraud-case-mandators-risks-jail-term-appear-court-24th-october/.

He and one Patricia Enobong, had pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony, stealing and obtaining money under false pretence. The Police arraigned the singer and his accomplice before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining $86,376 (amounting to millions of naira) under false pretence but pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them in the court.

Police prosecutor, Superintendent of Police Samson Ekikere, had told the court, presided over by Magistrate Aje Afunwa, that the defendants committed the alleged offences in October 2009 at Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, Lagos. He was accused of defrauding a businessman Etim Maurice through Standard Chartered Bank, under the false pretence of buying and delivering five Mack 4 trucks made to carry his goods.

According to Vanguard, after their plea was taken, Magistrate Afunwa, however, granted them bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties who must be blood relation, gainfully employed and have verifiable addresses. The case was however adjourned till October 28, 2015, for trial.

It could be recalled that sometime in 2015, it was reported that the singer was kidnapped when he sneaked into Akwa Ibom State for the funeral of his brother at his Nsit Ubium hometown, only to discover later that Victor was apprehended by the police over his failure to honour an agreement he signed in 2014 to pay up a debt he owed.

Fashion / The World's Second Biggest Diamond Has A New Name: "Lesedi La Rona." by mosesukpong: 2:59pm On Feb 10, 2016
It means "Our Light" in Setswana, the national language of Botswana, the southern African nation where the 1,111 carat stone was found in November.

Lucara(LUCRF), the Canadian company that owns the diamond, called it the biggest diamond found in more than 100 years. The discovery sent the company's shares soaring.
Lucara ran a public competition to find a perfect name for the stone. It picked "Lesedi La Rona" from more than 11,000 entries it received. It even hired Ernst & Young to ensure transparency of the naming process.

"Lesedi La Rona" symbolizes the pride and history of the people of Botswana," William Lamb, the CEO of Lucara said. "The outpouring of pride and patriotism shown by all the participants in the contest was incredible."
