daveP: Morocco playing a 451 when defending but the 5 aren't doing nothing to choke the midfield. Wingplay is their life, plus passes into spaces. They'll meet the winner of NGA vs CAM. Either team will punish Morocco. Bro...I fear their wing play to be honest. The only consolation is that we have good wingers and good midfielders. The wingers will stretch their FB and the midfielders will open up their Midfield. But this laser thing and home crowd ehn.... Chai |

Spy360: What do you understand a CM to be?
Cc Jodera2 you can assist A CM will provide passing option...link the Midfield with the attack. Let's say a CM is simply the link between DM and AM. |

Spy360: So why do you think a good DM like Torriera cannot play for Arteta while Elneny is getting an extension? because is limited at both the attacking and defensive department. Torreira is just like Kante. Sambi and Xhaka can't replace Partey perfectly even though they have a good range of passing. Why? Their defensive attribute is questionable. Arteta played Xhaka and Sambi together after Partey got injured and the team fell apart. Both can pass though but defensively, they're suspects. |

Spy360: Is this how you understood it? Lol. Xhaka covers Tierney whenever he pushes forward. Simple. At that INSTANT, Xhaka becomes the FB and Tierney the winger. Aubameyang was a winger in Arteta's formation, but drifts into CF during attacking phase. That's total football for you. Whats then important is the roles they perform for the manager.
So when I say it's the FBs (especially the RFB) that does the DM role for Arteta don't get me wrong. Spy, They're playing these roles because of their skillset. Tierney was always bombing forward but gradually started playing as an inverted CB. That's to tell you that role and tactic may change but position doesn't. Partey is still a DM,not a CM. |

lovewins: This isn't factual. Yes she was beaten by the South African before we conceded the first goal, but she's not by any stretch culpable in us conceding the second goal she played the goalscorer onside which shouldn't be so going by how he described her. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 7:04pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
Icon79: I beg to differ, she didn’t have a hand in any one of those goals actually. For the first goal, I will blame Ohale and Ebi. Ash was a wingback, where are the CBs behind to provide her support.
As for the second goal, I am at loss how you can possibly blame her on that one. Are you sure you watched the game?
O pari Going by your words, how was Ashleigh not technical and intelligent enough to discover she already breached the offside trap for the second goal? For the first, her technicality couldn't make her control the ball, she lost it to the South African player and still messed up. See, all the Defence line are culpable for both goals and I'm not exonerating anyone neither am I picking out Ashleigh but the way you guys is hyping this girl is just laughable. Imagine benching Ohale for Ashleigh... SMH |

Jodera2: Thank you. The thing is, it's the skillset that matters reason why I won't go for Ndidi or Kante to replace Partey in that lone DM role even though they're all DMs. The thing be say Spy no wan even agree say Partey, Rodri and Fabinho are all DMs and that DM roles have evolved. He's thinking DM is solely defined as dem Makalele dem— just tackling and winning balls. Finish.
And that's where he's wrong. I understand you. Infact the advancement of the DM role started with Arsene Wenger. Remember Song throwing some insane passes effortlessly? Arteta playing as a DM? DM is no more about defend or die , you no fit comot for hereThe CB is becoming advanced too...that is why White is starting ahead of Holding because of his ball playing skill. Football is evolving bro |

Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 4:40pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
Icon79: Read my response to DaveP. Using our last two games to judge our players would be very wrong because Cameroon is a much stronger opponent than either Botswana or Burundi. To see how these players will perform against Cameroon, look at how they performed against South Africa. That’s a better yardstick.
Ashleigh is technically better than both Ohale and Ebi. She’s defensively stronger and reads the game better She didn’t even play in her favorite position against South Africa but was still able to cage their best and most dangerous player.
O pari I hate to say this but with all these qualities and she still had a hand in both goals we conceded against South Africa. I'm not using that game to judge her though because Ohale and Ebi were also culpable. But this is Cameroon we're playing, Ashleigh should start from bench if the coach is not playing 3 at the back. |

Schemerkhiz: Confirmed
USWNT's Sept matches vs Nigeria are set:
Sat., Sept. 3 in Kansas City, Kan. (1:30 ET, Fox) Tues., Sept. 6 in DC (6 pm ET, ESPN2) The least expectation should be a win out of the double header. Enough of us being used as whipping cone. |

O pari huh? Our defence will just become express way Ashleigh will have to start from the bench. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 4:30pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
codemaniacs: That's the point.
Ordega is to the LW what Ajibade is to the RW.
So we need a Finisher in the center.
Kanu can start but she must also be substituted before the 60th minute for Onumonu.
Because Cameroon will Target and injure the forwards and the referee will play dumb.. Cameroon are just too rough.... May God not let the break leg tomorrow. |

Spy360: Very correct.
So what does Partey do for Arsenal that is different from other known DMs like you mentioned Ndidi and Kante? Ball distribution and his ability to create as well. His assist for Laca last season (you should remember) and recently, the friendly at London colney when he gave a through pass to Nketiah are perfect examples. That's why he is suitable for Arsenal because Kante and Ndidi can't offer such skillset. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 3:55pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
codemaniacs: Ordega starts as LW while Onumonu starts as ST. Kanu on the bench.
Kanu should enter before the 60th minute for Onumonu.
Kanu missed clear chances against Burundi and Cameroon should not injure her the way South Africa injured Oshoala they can injure Onumonu Ajibade got 3 assists from RW through Cutbacks and Crosses. When you have such player on one wing, the other winger must be someone with good positioning and a good goalscorer. Playing Ordega on the other wing will isolate Ify in the box because Ordega is also similar to Ajibade. Setting up a team is not just about names..it is about how the skillsets of each player complement one another. I just want the win.. anybody that starts is okay for me |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by mostob(m): 3:51pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
Spy360: What does Partey bring for us that Kante cannot? Kante is a roaming DM. Not the type that will collect the ball from the GK and start spraying passes. His job is just to run around tackling and intercepting. That is why Jorginho complement him so well. Ndidi on the other hand doesn't roam like Kante, he will sit back and cover up for overlapping FBs. He do make himself available for passes but rarely will you see him slide in a through pass for Vardy or any of their forwards. He sometimes do (especially for Nacho) but not as efficient as Partey. Kante in Arsenal will probably be paired with Xhaka as he can't stand alone as a DM. Ndidi in Arsenal will enable us play ESR and Odegaard as a double 8s. |

Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 3:41pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
If Ajibade will be starting on the right wing, then Kanu should start. Ajibade is more of a creative forward so we need a goalscorer at he other side rather than a pure winger. The 4th goal against Burundi is an example of what I'm saying. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 3:38pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
Schemerkhiz: One major issue facing Waldrum on Thursday is what to do with Ashleigh Plumptre.
1. Drop either of Onome Ebi or Osinachi Ohale for her
2. Play 3 center back of Ohale, Ebi and Plumptre
3. Play Plumptre as left back and drop impressive Toni Payne or push her forward 4. Pushing Payne forward means Ordega is dropped (which I doubt) or Ajibade goes to the midfield
5. Ajibade to the midfield means one of Okobi, Rita (shouldn't be starting again),
This is a major decision which will influence a lot of changes and will be key against a fast, and physical Cameroon come Thursday.
What do you think guys?
#WAFCON2022 #superfalcons if the coach is not going with 3 at the back, she should be on the bench. If Cameroon want to try any long ball tactic, Walldrum can bring her on. |
Sports › Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by mostob(m): 3:37pm On Jul 13, 2022 |
Danielnino00: Option 2 makes more sense... Since both Alozie and Payne can function better as full backs... Ajibade drops to the midfield with Ayinde and Uchiebe... Problem is who partners Onumonu up front? I'd go with Kanu cus of her pace and trickery, but I don't think she and Onumonu know how to play together..They didn't gel well in the game against Burundi..But they really compliment each other IMO.... Ordega can come in the second half... Ajibade doesn't need to come to Midfield. She and Kanu (or Gift) can flank Ify on both side. Ordega can come in as sub. Ordega and Gift (if Kanu starts) against tired defence will peg them back at the last minutes. |
