Madugu not winning the coach of the year award was not due to technical/tactical deficiency or a lack of input in the teams success but because of CAF politics, and compensation for Morocco not winning the WAFCON.
That's the only reason it was given to that Moroccan lady coach of TP Mazembe ladies that didn't win any trophies and no one had heard of until she won the award.
The same CAF politics was the reason Rasheedat Ajibade, who won best player at the WAFCON and had a stellar season with Athletico Madrid did not win the Women Player of the Year.
Even if una wan agend, make una dey agend with sense.
Honestly, that agenda stinks. It stinks so bad.
Going by that logic, we can conclude both Ajibade and Esther didn't provide enough input to the success of the team.
Swap Madugu with Randy and that guy would have been all over this thread writing epistles upon epistles on how Randy was cheated.
AkinDS: With all due respect, a contrary argument can also be made to buttress the fact that the Madugu guy is sub-optimal for the Falcons. It would have been atrocious IF he had failed in progressing to the semi's of the WAFCON with a squad pretty much build by Randy, especially with him (Madugu) being a part of the coaching staff. Even you or I could have done that - so no great feat on his part!
It speaks volumes that in the history of the CAF awards, never has a coach of a Women's national team not won the CAF coach of the year award, yet he failed to win in, especially when you consider the importance of the accomplishment and the circumstances and manner under which the team won the final. Yet, the award was given to someone who didn't even win any trophy on the continent. Could it be because the technical committee who rates these coaches figured out that he provided little or no inputs to the success of the team? Go figure!
Finally, your comments were uncalled for. I have never been close to any player (never met them personally or professionally and quite frankly, don't care to have any association with them). I care deeply about our national teams and believe very strongly that our Super Falcons CAN win the World Cup if we 'get it right'. 'Getting it right means: bringing in the right players at the right time , and not embarking on a hit or miss expedition. The margins are tight - there is little or no time to land the best players both in diaspora and at home. Unfortunately, the way and manner of the call ups demonstrates that Magudu is way over his head in this.
Man, what's this bolded? I know you like anything and everything White but that doesn't mean you should put this man down. Right now, I can confidently say you're no longer talking about football because what's this bolded?
Why didn't your tactically astute Randy Waldrum win the AWCON for us.
TheSuperNerd: Thanks O jare. This is the game. But wait ooo.. Uche actually scored once and not twice. Na wa... I mixed up that part. I just checked another 2006/07 La Liga season video and it shows Uche scoring against Madrid in the reverse fixture in same season.
He scored twice vs Madrid in 2006/07 but not in same game. A real terror to Los Galacticos that had Van Nistelrooy, R9 himself, Beckham, Ramos, Prime Cannavaro, Prime Casillas and more. Uche had 4 goals against Madrid (2 with Recreativo, 2 with Getafe).
