I.mbecile, in Nigeria, when you get stopped by the cops for drunk driving, do you:

A. Get arrested, taken to jail, and have you license suspended, or;

B. You pay a bribe, continue on your merry way --possibly killing innocent pedestrians-- before you go vomit in the living room and beat up your wife for not waking up to cook isi-ewu for you at 4am in the morning?

Your mother and father are im.beciles, of course. That's why their union also produced an im.becile in you who drools from both sides of his smelly mouth. What is the relevance of this stupid post to my comment? You retar.ded kangaroo.

Precisely. The man is a disgrace to Nigeria with how, even minimally, he does not understand his role as 'father of the nation'. A total embarrassment always moaning like a powerless victim. If we had a President ready to lead by example, then attitude can change.

You are the number 1 citizen of a Nation yet you are asking for attitudinal change from others when you have never, on any occasion at all, led by example yourself !!! What a load of Kibosh.

It is just tragic we have the worst accidental President leading us in Nigeria. A damning indictment of the lack of political sophistication of Nigerians. Even leaders of average ability, given the sort of power that comes with the Nigerian presidency, will not moan and play perpetual hopeless victim , seeking pity, as GEJ does.

The man is just a very, very, very poor leader. I even feel embarrassed calling him a leader since I understand what the word means to know that it does not describe GEJ in any way at all.

LOL. That doesnt change the fact that he is your President and he will be at least till 2015. If you like call him any name, it doesnt change that fact. abi? and I know your next line - you will say this is bla bla bla, a man posting as a woman. Thats your usual line.

OP. This is 2013. Spend time on better issues. The man was just wondering as he said. Is it a sin to ponder on an issue? What is ineptitude about pondering on an issue? Haba. You always pick holes in anything the man says, as if you can do better.

CohenJane:

I don't see anything spectacular in the message that is worthy of commendation (or even condemnation). It is just a mere ritual that individuals, governments and institutions carry out every year like the president himself rightly stated. So, there's no big deal as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't change anything

Even if GEJ tells you your name, you will still criticise him for it. Let him be. He has followed the "ritual", so, let it be. and who asked for your opinion anyway. What do you expect a message to change? To change Nigeria overnight.

kulutempa: When I read some of the imbecilic comments here supporting the statement of Goodluck Jonathan, a useless, good for nothing, shameless President of a country of 160 million people, I realise that Nigeria still has a long, long, long way to go. To take some of the arguments here to a logical conclusion, it's like Obama saying that he can't do anything about the frequent gun murders in America because Americans just have to change their attitudes about guns. This man Goodluck Jonathan is a disgrace to all Nigerians and he is one of the reason why Europeans and other saner countries would look down on you when you arrive at their airports with your green passports. Only an idiotic leader of the highest order would absolve himself of responsibility for the serious problems in his country and I have to say in this regard that GEJ is the most dense President this country has ever had the misfortune of having since her independence. And to those of you stating that he is right, I would say, birds of the same feather flock together.

Really. Not because Nigerians are known for crime and they have loads of them in their jail houses?

Act your name. Cool your temper. dont blow an artery because of GEJ. Cool down and make some sense.

Yes corruption is one of the cause given the frequency. There are institutions that should monitor and take actions accordingly. But how will these organisations function when they have been bastardised by corrupt practices? How do they regulate people when they cannot regulate themselves internally? These are the issues. Corruption distorts public policy in its entirety.

LOL. So, you slam your foot on the gas pedal in an intersection with the red lights on and you jam another car head on, and you blame it on one corrupt person somewhere and not on yourself cos you acted foolishly? LOL. SMH. You overrun your speedometer and you have a blow out and die in the process and blame it on the corrupt tendencies of some faceless people? Haba.

You drive with a bottle of Henessey in your glove compartment, sipping it at intervals and you sleep off and ran into the bush and die in the process and then blame it on some politicians somewhere or on some law enforcement? Chuo.

Now, take GEJ out of the picture and think hard to see if you are making sense.

Because you will face the consequences. Why do you have speed cameras everywhere? Why do you have CCTVs at city centers? Do they think everyone will naturally obey the law? Absolutely not!!! There are controls to put everyone in check. It is not a society where an Alams who should be in jail dines with the President. How do you change attitudes where Jona has set a tone of criminality at the top?

OK. People are not killing themselves because CCTV will catch them, if there are no CCTVs, naturally, they will begin to kill themselves because they dont want to obey the law and because there is no law enforcement. I get u. classic.

Mosun Ade I really mean to take you on,....I expect someone as savvy as you to be objective. The accidents you see in Abuja is infinitesimal when compared to heat obtains in other parts of the country. I don't fly,cos I feel safer driving myself. And girl,I drive around a lot. For every 10 automobile accidents I see on our roads, I can confidently assert that 8 out of them is due to bad roads (which translates to irresponsible Govt).
7 out of every 10 accidents u see in Abuja r what I wud cal dumb accidents,....accidents by spoilt kids who have never worked for one day to earn money, yet they have access to million Naira cars. So please do not use the accidents u see on Abuja streets to generalise.
In the last 50 days I av driven Ibadan-Sokoto 3 tyms,....and at night (the earliest I took off was around 11pm,and I drove over night), Sokoto-Ibadan 2tyms, Abuja-Lagos 3 tyms and back to Abuja twice. Christmas eve, last week Monday I left Onipan in Lag ard 6:30pm,...left Ibadan ard 8:30pm for Abj and got to Abj at 3am,....I know what I see on these roads per trip,....and trust me,accidents is just 5% good roads, 65% bad roads,.....and others. GEJ is an expert at shifting blames

Bros. answer me first. Accidents in Abuja with good roads are caused by corruption.? Answer a simple question. I dont care where you have been, I have been all over Nigeria on road.

ballabriggs: Anyone that thinks human beings truly want to obey the law is a big mumu. Then why do we have controls? Why do we have speed cameras on streets in the developed world. Do you think everybody wants to obey speed laws at all times? But they have no choice because if they don't, they get done. That is how leaders drive change and not run away irresponsibly.

I look at my manager who is like a friend, when I mess up, he has a go at me. Why? Because if he does not and the man above him finds out, he gets done. If the man above him does not, the man above the man above him tells him off, if he does not, he gets done. Such that now, it is a part of us, you don't get told but you know it already.

That is how cultures are embedded, that is how attitudes and values are cascaded. How can Jona cascade down the right attitude when Jona and Ngozi done carry N5 trilion run.

LOL. Why is everyone not committing murder then? Why are they not killing themselves. Why are they not walking naked in the streets. See thinking.

Because most find it difficult to differentiate right from wrong. They have been heavily bastardised by a failed leadership who sells criminality to them as being right. The tone cascaded down by leaders is one that shows an Alams, an ex-convict, as the President's friend. They only start seeing wrong with the hardship they experience.

And that is why I am here, to educate more and more people on the responsibility of Leaders. They should know what is expected of Leaders so as to rightly lay claims. Leadership is not Child's play most especially in a developing country like Nigeria. You either are there to solve the problem or you get out of there without making excuses.

So what is the meaning of attitude is our problem and not corruption? Do you have another meaning for that absolute statement? Ro you not know how to read and comprehend?

It's a no brainer that regardless of what people know to do and not to do, they still do anyway and this is why we have government and law enforcement to make sure people obey laws and punish offenders which is how you change people attitude.

Stop making dumb excuses for laziness and incompetency.

F off and I mean it. F off. You make no sense. Go and jump in front of a moving train and tell me you did that because there was no law enforcement to stop you from making the jump or tell me you did so because of corruption. Take your own life and tell me its because there was no law enforcement, drink poison and tell me it was because of corruption, no law enforcement, jump off a cliff and tell me it was because there was no law enforcement. Slap your own father and tell me it was because there was no law enforcement, drive into a lake and tell me it was because of corruption. Take pill overdose and tell me it was because there was no law enforcement. Smash your own computer right now and tell me it was because there was no law enforcement. what are you waiting for? Begin to shoot people on the street and tell me you did so because there was no law enforcement.

Do all the above and when they slam you in jail and you come out before you will have good attitude to doing the right thing.

I am really thinking this GEJ is a bad man, why did he wipe off all the good roads in Nigeria after he came to power? Why hasnt he fixed all the roads in Nigeria within 2-3 years? GEJ, why havent you dualised all our roads all over Nigeria since you came to power? You became President and used caterpillar to destroy all the good roads you inherited from previous administrations. Oh God. GEJ.

Because fashola did not say attitude is our main problem and not corruption and on top of that, he enforces the law to make people change their attitude. Ask okada, ask the busineses LASEPA locked up for violating environmental laws and noise pollution, ask oil tankers, ask tax evaders.n.

Begin to interpret what was said na, so it can suit your argument. Where did GEJ say attitude is the main problem?

"The president rejected the submission and instead retorted, “If Nigerians would change their attitude, you will realise that most of these issues being attributed to corruption are not caused by corruption."

Only crude people wait for them to be beaten black and blue before doing the right thing. Must you be told not to drive on the opposite side of traffic? I bet you will say thats also because of corruption not because of people's bad attitude to legal driving.

Fashola advocates attitudinal change

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has advocated change in attitude for things to be better in the country. Hosting members of the Island Club, Onikan, Lagos on Monday night, Fashola said the challenges facing the nation border on the choices people make daily. He said there was nothing wrong with the constitution, adding that it is the people that make the constitution and not the other way round.

Fashola said: “I think that with the right values, we can succeed even with the worst constitution. The Constitution can only be as good as what we put into it.”

He cited examples of nations across the world which have advanced and grown as a result of adherence to law and order. “I believe that the dreams we aspire to as a people and as a country cannot be delivered to us by anybody. We must want it hard enough to begin to act to earn it.

“Law and order must be our gold standard. No revolution will bring a better life to us either, because I have heard the various calls for revolution. But the revolution we need is in our hearts. No leader can also force us to do that unless we are persuaded that it is necessary and I believe it is necessary,” he said.

Fashola said Nigerians must decide what they want and work hard to achieve it, adding that the time has come to replace finger-pointing and blame trading with “individual; family; community; state and national action to change things that are not acceptable.

“Sometimes, I struggle to understand where we want to go. But in spite of those struggles, I am clear in my mind what kind of society I want to live, grow old and die in. That is clear to me. In my lifetime, I want to see a reliable electricity power supply in Nigeria. It is not just praying about it. It is about talking about it and doing something about it”, he said.

He said his administration did not only produce transformers and downstream electrical equipment to take advantage of the distribution aspect of the Federal Government’s Power Reform when it comes on stream, but built an Independent Power Project to supply constant electricity to some health and Judiciary institutions on Lagos Island.

The governor highlighted other steps taken to better the lives of Lagosians as elevating Gbagada General Hospital to an annex of the State’s University Teaching Hospital to serve as Cardiac and Renal Centre, Kidney Centre and Burns Unit; the construction of light rail to improve transportation and improvement in security through the establishment of Security Trust Fund, among others.
