Business / Learn To Reward Your Team For Learning by mpone: 3:11pm On Oct 28, 2016
Many jobs require people to continually develop new skills. As a manager, you should be less worried with what people know and more concerned about whether they’re able to learn. But it’s not enough to hire curious, adaptable people; you also have to reward them for learning.

When your employees have increased their knowledge and their value to the company, provide them with new and challenging opportunities. Promote people only when they’ve acquired sufficient expertise in other jobs in the organization, not just their own. Or you could give awards for individuals who organize events or activities to promote learnability in the company (running internal conferences, bringing external speakers, or circulating information that nurtures people’s curiosity). Reward simpler habits, too, like writing a blog, sharing articles on social media, or recommending books and movies.

Business / 3 Important Steps To Build Consumer Trust by mpone: 9:53am On Oct 16, 2016
www.tekrose.com

Trust is an essential element in building and maintaining customer relationships.

It’s so essential, in fact, that over 60% of consumers read reviews before they purchase a product/service because they don’t trust what the brand says about themselves alone.

That stat quickly proves that building consumer trust is important.

That is, if you like happy customers and making sales…

Every day, you and I are bombarded by dishonest marketing messages that convince us to purchase products that we think will suit our needs.

And it’s not just small fly-by-night businesses.

It’s well-known companies that you and I have put our trust in for years.

The fortunate thing for you is that you have the choice not to operate with distrust.

You can (and should) choose to establish trust-filled relationships with your target audience.

Always Provide Value First

The process of building trust begins with providing value to your prospects.

It’s your job as a business owner to prove that your company’s message and offerings are worthy of your audience’s time, attention, and later down the road, their money.

You do this by giving away useful items that will benefit your prospects.

A few suggestions of valuable items you can give away:

An article that contains important info your prospect is interested in.
A guide that helps a prospect complete a task efficiently.
A tool that makes it easier and more efficient for your prospect to do something.
A template that shows how to do something.
If you’re not sure what will work best for your target audience, ask yourself the following questions:

Whom am I writing to/for?
What problems/questions do my prospects have that I can solve/answer?
What information can I pass along that will benefit my readers?
It’s amazing the power that one useful tip, article, or how-to guide can have on building trust with your audience.

Don’t Be Greedy

As a savvy business owner, you already know that, in exchange for the valuable content, you’re going to ask prospects for something in return.

Most likely, that “thing” is going to be an email address. And because you’re such a smart cookie, you know that’s a completely acceptable thing to ask for.

What’s not acceptable is when business owners—of course, this would NEVER be you—ask for an email address, phone number, a subscription to 3 additional newsletters, and your firstborn child.

The point…don’t be greedy!

As soon as you begin to ask for too much, you’re going to scare people away and lose the trust you worked so hard to gain.

Keep it simple. Keep it easy. Keep it realistic.

Continue to Send Value

At this point, you’ve been able to gain some trust from your audience. It’s now vital to continue building your relationship.

Let’s think about it in dating terms.

You’ve already made a wonderful impression, and your date, and new love interest (AKA your prospect), decided to take himself off Tinder and pursue only you.

(With your suave looks and charming personality, it’s really no surprise.)

But what happens if you suddenly disappear and stop talking to your target audience after the first date?

Your prospects are going to find themselves with a gallon of ice cream, watching The Notebook, while pondering what went wrong in your relationship.

And eventually, they’re going to move on and discover a new guy. This “new guy,” of course, is one of your competitors.

Prevent this awful ending to a love story from happening by keeping the lines of communication open with your prospect.

You need to continue to “date” him in order to move your relationship to the next level.

This doesn’t mean that you ask your prospect to marry you, have 7 children, and move to Abuja.

Nothing against Abuja, of course, but it’s asking for too much, way too soon.

To further clarify in business terms, you can’t give away one small piece of marketing content and then expect your prospect to instantly say,“Yes” to purchasing your #25,000 product.

I know, it sounds crazy, but it happens all the time.

Start by taking it slow.

Send valuable content that continues to build your business-customer relationship. Make small moves.

After you’ve build up some additional trust, ask your prospect to make a small purchase. If they go for it, you’re on the right track!

Over time, you’ll be able to work your audience up to purchasing higher ticket items after you’ve proven that both you and your products are trustworthy.

Car Talk / See Why You Should Never Drive Your Car On Empty Tank by mpone: 12:57pm On Oct 12, 2016
The warning light on the dashboard indicates that the fuel has reached the reserve level, which is about 10 to 15 percent of your tank’s total capacity. You can use that reference along with your car’s average fuel economy to calculate your remaining range, but it’s a good idea to not risk running the car until it’s dry.

While standing on the side of the road with your empty car waiting for help or walking to the nearest filling station and returning with a jerry can is embarrassing enough, there’s another serious concern that could impact your wallet. And it could be way more expensive than a tank of fuel.

In your fuel tank, there is a device called a fuel pump, which sends the fuel from the tank to the engine. The fuel pump relies on the gasoline in the tank to keep it cool and lubricated. Running the car with a low tank means that the pump isn’t staying as lubricated as it should and is at risk of overheating. The obvious downside to this is premature failure of the pump.

That’s a pretty expensive repair. Failing fuel pumps will lead to poor performance, particularly with a car not accelerating smoothly or starting at all.Your fuel pump also has a fuel filter, which can quickly get dirty if you drive with a low tank. Since any sediment or dirt sinks to the bottom of the tank, the fuel filter could end up getting blocked or could take in dirty fuel, which also has costly consequences.

Ignoring your car’s low fuel warning is generally a bad idea, and running your car on empty can cause serious and costly problems to your car’s fuel system

Car Talk / Volvo To Introduce Car-to-car Communications By End Of 2016 by mpone: 7:08am On Oct 11, 2016
www.motoprof.com

Volvo is set to introduce car-to-car communication technologies across its fleet of high-end models in Europe by the end of 2016.

Volvo senior vice president for research and development, Peter Mertens, said the technology will allow vehicles to exchange important information and has been co-developed with Ericsson. He said all vehicles in the 90 series – the S90, V90 and XC90 — will be equipped with it as of the end of this year.

Working in a similar way to Mercedes-Benz’s, Toyota’s and Jaguar’s car-to-car communication systems, Volvo’s solution can relay information about road and weather conditions to nearby vehicles.

One example is the system’s slippery-road alert which becomes active based on information received from the vehicle’s steering, braking and acceleration sensors.

Car Talk / BMW To Have Fully Self-driving Cars On Roadways By 2021 by mpone: 8:13pm On Jul 01, 2016
www.motoprof.com

The German automaker has announced a collaboration with Intel and Mobileye to develop the necessary solutions and innovative systems for highly and fully automated driving. The three companies working together represent leaders from the automotive, technology and computer vision and machine learning industries, with hopes of bringing fully self-driving cars to market by 2021.

BMW acknowledges that “the path to get to a fully autonomous world is complex and will require end-to-end solutions that integrate intelligence across the network, from door locks to the data center.” The BMW iNEXT model will serve as the foundation for the company’s autonomous driving strategy and will set the basis for fleets of fully self-driving cars, not only on highways but also in urban environments for the purposes of automated ridesharing solutions.

The three companies are convinced that automated driving technologies will make traveling in vehicles safer and easier, with the hopes of being able to create vehicles that drive without a human driver inside. Until then, the companies will set for the so-called “eyes off” stage before heading to the “mind off” level, transforming a driver’s in-car experience to leisure or work time. They have also agreed to strive for an industry standard while defining an open platform for autonomous driving. The common platform will be made available to multiple car vendors and other industries who could benefit from the technology.

Car Talk / 3 Signs To Watch Out For When Your Car Hits A Pothole by mpone: 5:10pm On Apr 29, 2016
http://www.motoprof.com/2016/04/29/3-signs-to-watch-out-for-when-your-car-hits-a-pothole

As rainy season approaches, motorists will see more potholes on the roadways and avoiding them can be a real challenge.Potholes occurs when water permeates the pavement – usually through a crack – and softens the soil beneath it, creating a depression in the surface of the street. Potholes can also be prevalent in areas with excessive rainfall and flooding.

If you hit a pothole, I recommend watching for three warning signs to determine if your vehicle has been damaged.

1. Loss of control, swaying when making routine turns, bottoming out on city streets or bouncing excessively on rough roads are indicators that the steering and suspension may have been damaged. The steering and suspension are key safety-related systems. Together, they largely determine your car’s ride and handling.

2. Pulling in one direction, instead of maintaining a straight path, and uneven tire wear, are symptoms of an alignment problem. Proper wheel alignment is important for the lifespan of tires and helps ensure safe handling.

3. Low tire pressure, bulges or blisters on the sidewalls, or dents in the wheel rim will be visible and should be checked out as soon as possible, as tires are the critical connection between your car and the road.

If you feel your vehicle has suffered damage from hitting a pothole, it is wise to have it inspected by a professional service technician.

Car Talk / When Is The Last Time You Changed Your Headlights? Learn Some Best Practices by mpone: 1:16pm On Apr 28, 2016
While many focus on oil changes, brake pads and tire pressure checks, there’s one safety element that’s critical yet often overlooked – vehicle headlight maintenance.

Headlights are an active safety item and are the first line of defense on a vehicle; if drivers cannot see objects on the road, they cannot react. To prevent this, drivers must be proactive about headlight maintenance. Proper maintenance maximizes the amount drivers can see down road and side road, which can mean additional reaction time, helping you to avoid hazards that cause accidents.

To spread further awareness on automotive care, i recommend you follow some of these best practices when it comes to proper headlight maintenance:

Understand the choices in headlight performance levels: When it comes to headlights performance, many consumers should know that there are a variety of choices available on the market to help suit their individual needs. For instance, there are options available that offer brighter down road visibility or whiter light which improves contrast and helps drivers distinguish objects on the side of the road better than basic headlights.
Replace before burnout: All too often, vehicles with a burned out headlight can be found traveling on dark roads, posing a risk to both the driver and others on the road. With one headlight out, drivers are essentially seeing half as well as they potentially could. If a vehicle owner cannot remember the last time headlights were changed, it may be time for replacements.
Always replace in pairs: It’s very important to replace headlights in sets of two. Since headlights dim over their lifetime, a new bulb paired with an old bulb will create an uneven field of vision, which can be a major distraction on the road for both drivers and oncoming traffic.

Do it yourself: Changing a vehicle’s headlight bulb can be a simple process that doesn’t require a mechanic or service professional. In fact, various online guides and resources exist to help consumers swap out headlight bulbs in a matter of minutes. Consult the vehicle’s owner’s manual for bulb/headlight replacement procedures, needed tools and safety precautions. Always wear safety glasses and work gloves, as well.
Asking a simple question such as, ‘do you want to see better when driving at night,’ can help motorists understand the importance of changing their headlights for an improved on road experience. Updating a vehicle’s headlights can affect the lives of drivers and their overall experience on the road. Better headlights can help improve visibility and increasing chances of seeing objects sooner in the event of an accident or hazardous road conditions. This is a simple maintenance check that drivers of all ages should prioritize when it comes to overall road safety.

Romance / Yunusa – Ese’s Mother Aware Of My Relationship With Her Daughter by mpone: 11:12pm On Mar 08, 2016
Yunusa Dahiru alias Yellow, the alleged abductor of 14 years old Ese Oruru, has claimed that her mother, Mrs. Rose Oruru, was aware of his relationship with her daughter.

He made the allegation during his arraignment at the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa on a five-count charge of abduction, illicit sex and unlawful canal knowledge among others.

He also admitted that he impregnated the 14-year-old girl but was unaware of the pregnancy until the police report.

He disclosed this during an encounter with newsmen at the premises of the Court, adding that the mother was also aware of their decision to elope to Kano. However, he said Ese’s father was in the dark of his relationship with his daughter and the plan to elope to Kano.

Ese, who was 13 as at the time of her alleged abduction, was taken to Kano, by Yunusa, where he converted her to Islam and married her.

Sports / PSG Coach, Blanc – We Beat Chelsea Once, We Can Do It Again by mpone: 10:59pm On Mar 08, 2016
Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has backed his side to pull off a repeat of last season’s Champions League last-16 triumph over Chelsea when they visit Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The French champions hold a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Paris, placing them in a stronger position than in 2015, when they were tied at 1-1 heading to London.

PSG overcame an early red card for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to progress with a 2-2 draw after extra time in the second leg and Blanc is confident of reaching the quarter-finals once again.

“Each football match has its history,” he told a news conference. “It is unclear what will happen Wednesday.

“We will try to do what it takes to qualify, as will Chelsea. But I think it will be a more difficult game than last year for various reasons.

“But if we did it last season, we can do it again.

“We have an advantage in the result, which is important. We will try to impose our game. It will be a great challenge for PSG. We know our intentions and we will try to put it into practice. We need to have the right mental approach”

Blanc conceded he will have to make a late call on the fitness of Marco Verratti, who has a groin problem and was reportedly forced to pull out of training early on Tuesday.

And the French coach has warned his squad not to respond to the kind of provocation dished out by the likes of Diego Costa as he aims to avoid going a man down for a second time in as many trips to Stamford Bridge.

“Costa, there are two aspects, the player and the man,” he added. “This is a very good player, a striker who scores goals, always moving. I like him.

“After that we know the man – he loves contact, the duels. It’s part of the game.

“We saw last year, he played like that. I tell my players not to respond to it, to be very cold compared to that.

“We have to stay as 11. We must not respond to provocation. We paid for it last year.”

Car Talk / 5 Easy Steps For Better Fuel Economy by mpone: 9:37pm On Mar 08, 2016
With the average price of fuel going up, over #86 per litre coupled with the fact that we may not even get it at that price as a lot of stations still sell as high as #140 per litre, its wise to really know ways to save fuel and improve your savings at the pump. Putting some of that savings toward basic auto care can lead to more miles per gallon and, in turn, more savings,

We encourage you to be car care aware and perform these five simple steps to improve fuel economy and save money.
1. Check Tire Pressure: Keep tires properly inflated and improve gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent.
2. Use the Right Motor Oil: Improve gas mileage by 1 to 2 percent by using the grade of motor oil recommended by the manufacturer.
3. Replace Clogged Air Filters: Replacing clogged air filters on older vehicles can improve fuel economy and will improve performance and acceleration on all vehicles.
4. Check Engine Performance: Keep your engine running efficiently and improve gas mileage by an average of 4 percent.
5. Fix It: Addressing a serious maintenance problem, like a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve mileage by as much as 40 percent

Politics / Orubebe Arraigned On One-count Charge In CCT by mpone: 8:21pm On Mar 08, 2016
The Federal Government on Tuesday streamlined the four-count charge preferred against former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, into a single-count charge of false asset declaration.
Orubebe is being tried before Mr. Danladi Umar of the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.
At the resumed hearing on Tuesday, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Mohammed Diri, informed the tribunal that the Federal Government has resolved to withdraw some of the charges first filed on October 8.
Diri told the tribunal that he has just filed a new one-count charge bothering on false asset declaration while other issues bothering on corruption and bribery against the Ex-Minister had been dropped.
According to Diri, the Federal Government resolves to prosecute the former Minister on an amended one-count charge bordering on allegation of false declaration of his assets in 2007.
The counsel said that the amended charge was brought in pursuant to the provisions of Section 216 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
The prosecution alleged that Orubebe failed to declare his asset at 2057, Asokoro District, Abuja, when he assumed office as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs on June 29, 2011.
He said that amended one-count charge was served on the defendant some moments before the Tuesday proceedings began.
Diri said that the charge preferred against the defendant was contrary to the provision of Section 15 of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Act.
He said that it was also against the provision of CAP 15 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Punishable under Section 23(2) of the same Act.
Diri also informed the tribunal that he would be willing to call three witnesses to testify to the charge
Meanwhile, the defence counsel, Mr Selekeowei Larry (SAN), did not oppose the amendment.
The tribunal chairman, however, accepted the new charge and struck out the former ones.
The chairman also directed that the fresh charge be read to the defendant to which he pleaded not guilty.
The judge, thereafter, adjourned the matter till April 7 for the prosecution to open its case.

Foreign Affairs / Islamic State Group ‘may Be Plotting Huge Attacks’ In UK by mpone: 3:39pm On Mar 07, 2016
The so-called Islamic State group may be planning a “spectacular” attack in the UK, the national head of counter-terrorism policing has warned.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said there was evidence IS – also known as Daesh – was “trying to build bigger attacks” globally, including in the UK.

He said a large-scale attack was the “natural next step” for IS.

A number of attacks, including last year’s gun and bomb attacks in Paris, are believed to be inspired by IS.

Speaking at a briefing in London, Mr Rowley revealed the number of terrorism-related arrests hit record levels last year.

There were 339 arrests in England, Wales and Scotland – the highest yearly figure.

Scotland Yard – which published the data – said there had been a 57% in the last three years compared with the previous three.

Although he would not be drawn on specific plans or operations, Mr Rowley said IS had expanded its ambitions from smaller-scale targets – often military personnel or police.

“In recent months we’ve seen a broadening of that. Much more plans to attack Western lifestyle, and obviously the Paris attacks in November.

“Going from that narrow focus on police and military as symbols of the state to something much broader,” he said.

“And you see a terrorist group which has big ambitions for enormous and spectacular attacks – not just the types that we’ve seen foiled to date.”

Mr Rowley said psychologists were being deployed to work with counter-terrorism units because of increasing concern that people with mental health problems were being radicalised.

The use of psychologists was becoming “increasingly standard” he said, adding: “Having that insight is critical.”

Autos / Toyota To Release A Stylish Electric Car Made Of Wood by mpone: 1:06pm On Mar 07, 2016
Toyota will unveil an electric roadster made almost entirely of wood at Milan Design Week next month.

The Japanese automaker calls its latest concept car Setsuna, which is a Japanese word meaning “moment.” The name is meant to represent the fleeting moments people experience with their cars, Toyota said in a press statement.

“The decision to use wood—a material that is durable yet prone to change over time — reflects Toyota’s efforts to give form to the developing relationships between people and their cars,” the company said.

Because it is made of wood, the car will evolve over the years and “develop a complex and unique character,” Kenji Tsuji, the Toyota engineer overseeing development of the Setsuna, said in a statement.

The designers also included a 100-year meter inside the car which is meant to keep track of time as the car is passed down from one generation to the next.

The frame, floor, seats, and exterior panels all have wood incorporated into the design.

The Setsuna is still very much a concept car, though, and is not street legal. However, it is driveable.

The company said the car is powered by an electric motor, but did not share any other details about range.

According to a Forbes report, though, the the car is powered by six 12-volt lead acid batteries and has a range of about 15 miles with a full charge.

The company currently has no plans to sell the car, but a spokesperson told Forbes they plan on getting lots of feedback from designers and other experts and may eventually some design elements in developing future vehicles.

Webmasters / The Founder Of Email, Ray Tomlinson, Dies by mpone: 7:48am On Mar 07, 2016
Ray Tomlinson, the man credited with founding email, has passed away at the age of 74, according to a report from the Sydney Morning Herald. According to the report, Tomlinson died of a heart attack.

Tomlinson was a part a team of computer programmers at research and design company Bolt Beranek and Newman (now BBN Technologies) in Cambridge, Mass., and had begun experimenting with internal messaging in 1971. Tomlinson had an idea to send a text message between computers using a new network (and a predeccesor to the Internet) called Arpanet, routing it using an “@” symbol.

He recalled the first email sent in an interview with NPR from 2009: “The keyboards were about 10 feet apart…I could wheel my chair from one to the other and type a message on one, and then go to the other, and then see what I had tried to send.”

By the 1980s government and military personnel were actively using the system. And by the 1990s email had become one of two pillars of the budding consumer Internet, alongside the World Wide Web.

Tomlinson was subsequently inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2012.

Tomlinson told NPR that he had a feeling that what he had discovered with the “@” symbol would have some impact.

“What I didn’t imagine was how quickly that would happen,” he said.

Phones / NCC Warns Nigerians Against Use Of Second-hand Phones by mpone: 8:29pm On Mar 05, 2016
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned Nigerians to desist from using second hand and substandard mobile phones, saying such devices pose greater risk to the users.

Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Professor Umaru Garba Danbatta gave the advice at the occasion marking NCC special day in the ongoing 37th Kaduna International Trade Fair.

Professor Danbatta represented by Hajia Maryam Bayi debunked insinuation that telecom facilities like masts and towers pose health hazards to residents around such facilities, saying cell phones, pose greater health risks than masts.

While highlighting the numerous roles of NCC towards ensuring that telecom subscribers get the best of service from their service providers, the telecoms regulatory agency said, consumers must also play their roles to receive quality service.

According to him, “The use of substandard and counterfeit devices, have been identified as one of the reasons for poor quality of service.

“Today, there are different types of handset in the market. Some of these devices have been used and dropped in the other parts of the world. Some are devices that did not meet international benchmarks for safety and other requirements.” he said.

While noting that second hand devices pose health risk to the users and degrade quality of service, he urged telecom consumers to be wary of the sources of telecom devices they use.

“The commission has a list of type approved handsets in its websites. These are models ascertained to be of international standards and do not affect the quality of services in the networks.” he said.

On the telecom facilities, Professor Danbatta said, World Health Organisation (WHO) has dismissed insinuation that masts pose health risk to people living around.

He, however, appealed to Nigerians to desist from obstructing expansion of telecom facilities.

Politics / I Will Back Igbo For 2019 Presidency – IBB by mpone: 7:58pm On Mar 05, 2016
Former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, says he will support Igbo to take over power in 2019.

He made the disclosure to The Interview, a magazine published by Azu Ishiekwene, focusing on leading professionals and politicians.

IBB, also said there was no need for Biafra agitation.

“I will vote for an Igbo president in 2019, if I find one.

“We do not need this distraction now,” he was quoted as saying.

On the death of Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 election, IBB said he received the news with shock but without regret.

Asked whether he believed that Abiola died of natural causes, Babangida responded: “I should know? I didn’t serve the tea…!”

IBB further spoke on his relationship with President MuhammaduBuhari, Vasta Mamman, his childhood friend executed on his orders as well as Sani Abacha, former military ruler.

Ishiekwene disclosed that in the latest edition of the magazine, Babangida revealed how former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, arranged a meeting between him and Buhari in 2006.

“One thing you guys in the media want is for us to be exchanging words with each other each time we see,” IBB was quoted.

Babangida spoke on the two ‘most traumatic’ coups during his eight-year regime – the Mamman Vatsa and Gideon Orkar coups – revealing, for the first time, a meeting he had with Vatsa before his trial began.

The Interview also covered Dele Giwa and the C130 Hercules plane crash in Ejigbo, that killed 150 military officers dead.

Politics / Boko Haram: Governor Shettima Bans Sale Of Dried Meat In Maiduguri by mpone: 7:46pm On Mar 05, 2016
The Borno Government on Friday banned the sale of dried meat in order to curtail the activities of Boko Haram terrorists currently engaged in cattle rusting to fund their operations.

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno announced the ban at the inauguration of a committee for the management of the Maiduguri Cattle Market in Maiduguri.

Mr. Shettima, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Jidda Shuwa, said the government had also suspended importation of cattle to the state capital for the next two weeks.

Mr. Shettima said only the Butchers Association and Cattle Traders Association were permitted to slaughter and sell cattle in the market.

“Importation of cattle to the state capital through all routes and all sources other than the cattle traders association is hereby suspended for two weeks.

“In the same vein, the sale of dried meat is hereby banned, as it had been observed that criminal elements resort to this measure to legitimize their dubious activities ultimately aimed at funding activities of Boko Haram”, he said.

Mr. Shettima said the government had also suspended trading in four livestock markets – Gamboru, Dusuman, Shuwarin and Ngom to further ensure that only legitimate cattle were sold at the market.

Crime / Teacher Beheads Proprietor’s Granddaughter Over Unpaid Salaries by mpone: 7:26pm On Mar 05, 2016
A teacher in a private school, Edet Umoren, in Esugbo, Itamerin near Ijebu-Ife, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Thursday, allegedly beheaded a 10-year-old pupil, Precious Adedeji.

Adedeji, who was a pupil of Favour Nursery and Primary School, was the granddaughter of the proprietor, Pastor Joseph Olitoye.

It was gathered that Umoren allegedly killed the pupil because Olitoye owed him N8, 000 – the suspect’s salaries for January and February.

Umoren, also severed off the right hand of the 10-year-old girl after seizing and dragging her into a nearby bush, a day after her birthday.

The assailant, who was also said to be the treasurer of the school proprietor’s church, was alleged to have seized Adedeji when she and her friend, Patricia, were returning to the school from where they had gone to buy biscuit.

Patricia, it was learnt, escaped from the scene and ran back to the school premises to inform the proprietor of the attack by “Uncle Edet.”

The proprietor said he had pleaded with Umoren to exercise patience till the end of this week to enable him to pay the salaries owed him.

Olitoye disclosed that Umoren left two short notes at the scene of the crime, claiming that he killed the girl because of the failure of the proprietor to pay him his two months’ salaries of N8,000.

He said, “Edet resumed school this morning (Thursday) like every of our staff and we discovered that he left around 10am not knowing he went to plan this evil.”

The distraught Olitoye said he had planned to terminate the appointment of the teacher on Friday over alleged disobedience, which made him to issue him a query before he committed the crime.

He also alleged that the assailant, who until the incident, was the treasurer of his church, had allegedly stolen over N250,000 from the church’s fund.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said Umoren had been arrested.

Adejobi, a deputy superintendent of police, said detectives picked up the suspect at about 5am on Friday.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed that the suspect should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.

Business / Will Cheaper Electric Cars Crash The Oil Market? by mpone: 12:55am On Mar 01, 2016
A new analysis by Bloomberg says that electric vehicles are getting cheaper fast enough that they will help cause the next oil crash. Cool, no?

As the many, many analysts around the media world prove every day, you simply can’t go wrong when you predict the future. Sure, you can be wrong, but it seems like no matter how factually incorrect you might be about the future, you will always find a place at the media table. Of course, I don’t know what will happen in the next decade, either, so look who’s talking. With all that in mind, I wanted to share a prediction that found purchase inBloomberg this week: namely, that electric cars will cause the next oil crisis.

“The 2020s will be the decade of the electric car.” – Tom Randall

On the one hand, this article sounds at times wistfully and wonderfully optimistic. The gist is that, thanks to rapid and unexplored (by the oil market, anyway) advances in battery technology, plug-in vehicles first become comparable in cost and then cheaper than today’s gas cars. That’s when things get real. The author, Tom Randall, says that, “the 2020s will be the decade of the electric car” and that, “thirty-five percent of new cars worldwide will have a plug,” by 2040. As you may remember, OPEC strongly disagrees.

On the other hand, Randall does offer up some crunched numbers to back up his optimism. Given that electric vehicle sales grew, globally, by about 60 percent last year, Randall and his team, “calculated the effect of continued 60 percent growth. We found that electric vehicles could displace oil demand of 2 million barrels a day as early as 2023. That would create a glut of oil equivalent to what triggered the 2014 oil crisis.” Even if you don’t buy that 60 percent is a reasonable growth rate for EVs to keep up for a long time, Randall says that a more conservative approach to figuring out how much EVs will cost and thus entice new buyers shows that we will hit that two-million barrel level in 2028. For all the numbers, you should just go read the whole article. It even comes with moving GIFs.

While I want to believe Randall’s message – what’s the point of disruptive technology if you don’t actually disrupt things? – I’ve seen enough talk of Peak Oil and the coming EV revolution over the past decade that I’ve been covering green cars to know better than to just accept any predictions that come my way. Despite low prices for a barrel of oil today, the oil industry seems to be pretty confident that EVs don’t pose a real threat. That could be wishful thinking on their part as well, but that seems like a good a place as any to step aside and leave the rest up for your comments and discussion.
