The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the receipt of President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to extend his 10-day vacation in UK. Aliyu Sabi, spokesperson of the senate, made this known to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday. Mr. Sabi said that the letter did not specify when the president would return to the country. “You will recall that we received a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari before suspending plenary to attend to the budget. “In the letter dated January18, he informed the senate that he was proceeding on a 10-day vacation and for medical checkup. “He also stated very clearly that in his absence, the Vice President will be in charge of the affairs of the country. “We are also in receipt of a second letter informing us that he is extending his vacation because in the course of the routine checkup, his doctors recommended more checkups,“ he said. Mr. Sabi said further that he was not privy to when the letter was transmitted to the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki. He said that he was briefed about the letter shortly before the media briefing. The spokesman said that the senate would deliberate on the letter upon resumption on February 21. It is not clear if the senate would still proceed with the deliberation should the president arrive before then. Mr. Sabi urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the present government as it was making efforts to provide succour to them. He also assured Nigerians that the senate was not relenting in helping the executive to boost the nation’s economy. Mr. Sabi’s statement comes amidst apprehension over Mr. Buhari’s health, despite repeated assurance by the presidency. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said on Monday that he had a successful telephone conversation with the president, whom he described as hale and hearty. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/222867-buhari-requested-indefinite-extension-medical-vacation-senate-says.html |

Nnewi—The Indigenous People of Biafra,
IPOB, has asked Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka of
Adoration Prayer Ministries, Enugu to stop
insulting them by calling on Igbo elders to take
over IPOB and what they stand for, instead of
the youths who are spearheading the affairs
of the group.
IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity
Secretary asked the Enugu-based priest to
focus on the pure water and olive oil that he is
selling, instead of meddling in their affairs,
adding that Jesus Christ started performing
wonders before he died, at the youthful age of
33. “In Rev. Mbaka’s video about IPOB, one
would have thought that the same Jesus he
worships and sells olive oil and pure water in
his name, was 1000 years old when he started
his ministry that changed the course of human
history.
Fr. Mbaka
“Now, it stands to reason that the leadership
of IPOB from Nnamdi Kanu, to the last
Principal Officer of State at the Directorate
are above 40 years of age and are older than
Mbaka going by what he declared as his real
age. So, why is he worried about the age of
the leaders of IPOB?
“The same Bible Mbaka is supposedly reading
everyday is replete with instances where God
raised children, from Joseph, Moses, Samuel,
David, Samson, Jephthah etc, to do his will in
the lives of his children.”
IPOB wondered why God did not use Reuben
who was the eldest son of Jacob instead of
Joseph who was second to the last. Why did
God choose baby Moses, even as he was in a
basket to lead his people out of Egypt instead
of Moses’ father or another elder from the
Hebrew community in Goshen, Egypt?
“Why didn’t God choose one of the elders of
Israel to lead the assault on the land of
Canaan, but instead, chose Joshua? Why did
God choose Samuel instead of the older
established priests from the house of Levi to
serve in his temple instead of the boy Samuel?
“Why did God anoint and make a young David
king over Israel when there were ‘elites’ and
men of the law he could have chosen and
make a king? Why did Jesus the son of a
carpenter, at the very tender age of 11 preach
against the doctrine and hypocrisy of the all
powerful Pharisees and Sadducees and the
corruption of the Sanhedrin?”
“Today the world knows only Jesus not the
high priest of the temple or anyone from
Sanhedrin. The same God has chosen Nnamdi
Kanu and his IPOB not anybody from Ohaneze
Ndigbo, South East or South South Governors
Forum or the so called elites. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/02/stop-meddling-affairs-ipob-tells-mbaka/ |
Erstwhile chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has joined some politicians claiming that herdsmen allegedly murdering other Nigerians are foreigners. He stated this on Friday, while speaking to journalists on the incessant herdsmen conflict at his residence in Yola. Tukur also urged Nigerians to investigate deeply before drawing conclusions on the matter. He said: “Nigerians must ask serious questions and stop looking at this at the surface. To the Fulani man, his cattle is life’s worth, so he will never drive his cattle into someone’s farm because that will breed trouble and it would cost him his cows. There are people dressing up like Fulani going about killing, maiming and wreaking havoc on the Nigerian people http://dailypost.ng/2017/02/03/fulanis-never-breed-trouble-foreigners-dress-like-kill-nigerians-tukur/ |
BENIN—FRESH tension is brewing between the Yoruba and the Benin Traditional Council, as the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, described as absolute falsehood and provocative, the claim by the Oore of Mobaland, Oba James Adedapo Popoola, that until 1914, Benin Obas were buried in IIe-Ife. He also described as untenable, the claim by Oba Popoola that the Oba of Benin is number four in the cadre of Yoruba kings. The Esogban was reacting to an interview granted by Oba Popoola to a national newspaper (not Vanguard). Speaking to Vanguard in Benin City, Chief Edebiri, who is also the Odionwere of Benin Kingdom, said the position of Oba Popoola was misleading and must not be taken seriously. According to him: “It is absolute falsehood to say that Benin Obas were taken to Ile- Ife for burial. It never happened in our history. The precursor of this present dynasty, Oranmiyan, who came from Ife as requested by the Benin people, went back alive when he felt that he could not cope with the politics of Benin. He went back to Ife. Maybe, he was the one who died there and was buried and they now claim that Benin Obas were buried in Ife. I think that is where the notion came from. The Oba that came after Oraminyan, Eweka I, died and was buried here according to Benin traditional rites, within the palace environment. No Bini man can claim to know where the kings are buried. The two successive obas, the children of Eweka 1, both of them ruled within a space of two years, they died and they were buried here. “So, I pity the Kabiyesi because in the first place, according to him, he is now 17 years on the throne. Maybe, he wants relevance and to be able to do that, he made his wild claims. But what surprises me is, why drag Benin into their problems? If he wanted relevance in his area he should not bring Benin into it. These two Obas in quick succession ruled in Benin and were not taken to Ife. “One can only imagine what it entailed at that time to carry a corpse from Benin to Ife for burial. What was the method of preservation, what was the method of transportation of the remains being carried to Ife and that was done each time an Oba here joined his ancestors? It is not true at all, absolutely untrue. What I want to advise these people is, in the history of a people, you have history and you have fable and you have folklore. It is possible this is one of their fables which has no sanctity of historical facts. “So, to bring what I am saying vividly, the most prominent Benin king that everybody knows about is Ewuare I. I will tell you what the doyen of Benin history, Late Dr Jacob Egharevba, recorded about his death and burial that was in 1440. In the short history of Benin by Dr J.U Egharevba, page 17 says: “Ewuare died after a long reign and was buried at Esi, near Udo” Udo is in Ovia West Local Government Area, “as commanded before his death.” “This was the oba who commanded that if he died because he was sick, they should not bury him in Benin City, they should take him to Esi, his own mother’s village, to bury. Up-till this time, we are talking, the burial place is preserved, and every Oba who wants to ascend the throne in Benin must go there to perform certain ceremonies. The ascension of Oba Ewuare II was not exempted from this. So, that tells you that there is no iota of truth in the issue. It is a mere figment of their imagination. It is not true. Many of the Yoruba kings today are products of the royal family of Benin. Their lines were begun by Benin people from here but we have never said they should bring their corpses to us. “In Benin, it is a taboo to bring the corpse of your son to you. If it is true, as claimed by the Ooni of Ife who is the father of Oranmiyan which we do not dispute, and Oranmiyan did not stay here in Benin till his death, he went back to Ife, why should he wait for his grand children’s corpse to be brought to him each time any of them passesd on here? “There is no sense in it that you just sit down somewhere in Ife waiting for the corpses of your grandchildren to be brought to you. What do you do with it? So you can see that there is no sense in that” he stated. On the claim that the Oba of Benin was the fourth in the cadre of Yoruba kings, Chief Edebiri said: “This is an oba I am hearing of for the first time and I am sure many people who read that story, would have come across that news for the first time. All the cock and bull stories that he told in that interview that he is the announcer of the passage of Ooni of Ife, well that suits him, if his duty is to announce the passage of another king. “He cannot claim to be number four in Yoruba land because that is in direct conflict with what the Alake of Egbaland was saying a few months ago. The political connection we had with them, we successfully severed the connection in 1963 when we had the plebiscite that created Midwest Region. So, we have nothing to do with their classification, they can go on with whatever they think they are. The Oba of Benin cannot be classified with any of them. Maybe it is not generally known that some of the most progressive kingdoms in the Yorubaland have kings who have direct connection with the royal family of Benin. Maybe they do not even know.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/02/no-benin-oba-buried-lle-ife-esogban-benin-edebiri/

Citizens from five Muslim-majority countries will
no
longer be able to obtain Kuwaiti visas, after
reports
the Gulf state issued tight entry restrictions that
mirrored US President Donald Trump’s Muslim
ban.
Syrians, Iraqis, Iranians, Pakistanis and Afghans
will
not be able to obtain visit, tourism or trade
Kuwaiti
visas with the news coming one day after the US
slapped its own restrictions on seven Muslim-
majority countries.
Passport holders from the countries will no lot be
allowed to enter the Gulf state while the blanket
ban
is in place and have been told not to apply to
visas .
Kuwaiti sources told local media that the
restrictions
were in place due to the “instability” in the five
countries and that the ban would be lifted once
the
security situation improves.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have all witnessed
violence
from extremist groups, while Syria and Iraq are
embroiled in internal conflicts.
Although mainly peaceful, tensions between Iran
and
the Gulf have ratched up over the past year with
the
GCC powers accusing Tehran of attempting to
destabalise the region.
Kuwait is concerned about the threat of
extremist
groups such as al-Qaeda and the Islamic State
group
with both militant organisations have a presence
in
Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Gulf state has witnessed a number of
militant
attacks over the past two years, including the
bombing of a Shia mosque in 2015 which left 27
Kuwaits dead.
Kuwait responded by arresting dozens of
suspected
Daesh sympathizers and rolling out mandatary
DNA
testing programme and database for the Gulf
state’s
4 million population.
Kuwait reportedly issued a ban on all visas for
Syrians in 2011, but allowed those inside the
country
to remain.
It made Kuwait the only country in the world to
officially bar entry to Syrians, until the US named
Syria in seven countries banned from entering.
Kuwait has issued a number of laws targeting
foreigners in recent years, and made it one of
the
most unfriendly Gulf states towards expatriates.
In 2015, Kuwait was named as the worst place in
the
world for expatriates in a 64 country InterNations
survey.
Meanwhile, Trump’s Muslim ban has been met
with
widespread outrage since it was signed on
Friday,
although Gulf states have remained quiet on the
issue.
Dubai security chief Dhahi Khalfan outraged
Syrians
and other nationalities included in the ban when
he
publicly backed Trump’s decision. http://truthfeed.com/kuwait-copies-trump-issues- own-visa-ban-for-five-muslim-majority- countries/50074/ https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/ news/2017/2/1/kuwait-issues-trump-like-visa- bans-for-five-muslim-majority-countries cc : lalasticlala |
