EducationRe: 10 English Sentences That Can Make You Appear As A 'Quarter-Baked' Graduate by MrCEO69(m): 2:02am On May 03, 2016
Rapmoney:
I know even educated people commit grammatical blunders sometimes but there are grammatical blunders that are just so outrageous and shameful at the same time, when they come right out of the mouths of supposed 'graduates' from tertiary institutions!

If you have been guilty of the following as regard spoken English, then you have clearly moved from being a 'Half-baked' graduate to a 'Quarter-baked' graduate!!! grin grin

1) 'You are smarting'...I heard a guy at a plaza who claimed to be a graduate saying this! Gush! Being smart is very different from being fast or slick. By the way, there's no verb such as 'smarting' in English language which means the same thing as what this young man was trying to say! cool

2) 'You are showing yourself'...just like the one above, how can someone be 'showing' himself/herself? huh So human being don turn movie? huh Na wa o!

3) 'Oya, come and go'...two opposite verbs. You are telling the person to come and at the same time, to go! grin Again, what's the meaning of 'Oya'?

4) 'My body is scratching me'...your body can only itch you and not scratch. You scratch when you use your fingers to stroke a surface roughly! Lol! grin

5) 'My phone is 'more' better than yours...this sentence can surely make you appear a 'quarter-bakie' wink You can't use two comparative adjectives in a sentence! We have good, better, best. When you compare two things, the middle one which is 'better' should be used so there's no need for 'more' which is also a comparative adjective but goes with 'than'. As in 'more than' cool

6) 'Did she went to the market'?...as absurd as this sentence is, I have seen many 'graduates' saying it! Two verbs with past tense form in the same sentence? huh

7) 'Ola, something is smelling. Can you hear it...ehen!!! 'HEAR'? huh English!!!

8. 'People has' or 'she have'...'has' is a singular auxiliary verb that goes with a singular subject while 'have' is a plural auxiliary verb that goes with a plural subject.

9) 'They takes people for granted'...this one is common on NL. A plural subject does not go with a singular verb and vice versa. 'Take' is plural and 'takes' is singular which goes with a singular subject as well. Take note of 'They' being a plural subject.

10) 'I am looking for Funmilayo'...you can't be looking for someone. Instead, say 'I am asking of Funmilayo'. You can only look for what is lost! It happens regularly when people go to check on others. We can only start looking for Funmilayo if she is declared missing! grin

I hope these help! We are all learning. It is only a foolish man that takes offence when he is corrected!

Good day!!! cool

You can add yours!
Op u need to differentiate pigin English and Standard English here.

The "Oya, come and go" is pigin English.

RomanceRe: Things Ladies Should Stop Doing If They Don't Have Plans For A Guy by MrCEO69(m): 11:31pm On Apr 24, 2016
emusmith:
The truth is painful but must be spoken nonetheless. I've heard some complaints from some friends plus some of my past experiences. Ladies, if you don't have plans for a guy stop the following:

1. Stop calling him "sweet names" like dearie, sweetheart, honey, love etc.

We know you're a "lovie duvie" but biko, control it enh...don't give him false hope. Let friends be friends NOT lovers. Unless you want to switch over, then you open up.

2. Stop visiting him on skimpy clothes and buttoned shirts, especially when you're 'courageous'.

You visit a guy whose ear NL has filled with topics like 'How ladies behave when they want to get laid". If you don't have plans for him, quit sending those signals. Remember: To every sequence, there is a consequence.

3. Stop getting jealous when you see him with other girls

You don't want to marry him, yet you get jealous when he's making headway, relationship-wise. You're not his mother, biko. Friends sef have limits.

4. Stop discussing your past relationships with him- it's not his business.

This thing you are saying is communicating something different to his mind. You want to talk with someone, you have besties right? False hope everywhere! cheesy Now, what do you want him to do? Leave his girl and come solve your relationship problems?

5. Stop visiting him at odd or questionable hours

This is one major way smart and decent girls nicely wipe the thought away from the mind of numerous suitors. If you don't want intimacy, don't visit him at all sef. Not like all guys are like that, but MOST girls are like that. A girl visits you and choose to be a good boy, then she hates you. The next point expatiate more...

6. Don't suggest sleeping in his house or vice versa because something might happen.

This offers a protective measure. Don't get me wrong: if there's an understanding, it's okay. More often than not, in a corrupt world of ours, no one can be trusted in a cold bed. You can trust him but can you trust his "down there". If you don't want "harassment", avoid stuff like this.

7. Don't "miss" him.

Ever woke up in the morning and you see a text message in your phone by "just a friend' saying 'I miss you'. That stirs up questions as much as it does hormones. It's risky.

JUST ADDED:

8. Stop 'breasting' him

You don't have plans for him and you'll be staining his white clean shirt with your b**bs. C'mon! That's unfair! Some will just come with their coconut and rest on your body as if your skin cells are dead and gone. Let's change in 2016.

Abeg enh, let's know the ladies that are still single and available. Don't colour-blind us. If you are in love, show it and don't act funny when we reciprocate. Relationship leads to marriage when both parties are honest to themselves. Its childish and evil to start acting innocent after you have caused him to sin at heart. I honestly believe, a few guys won't easily swallow this bitter pill as they'll seek ways to avenge.

You can share your experiences too.

Goodnight.
bro, na just this exact thing i just went tru oh, the girl fine ganh.. Told her my mind oh she still no agree, oya why u been the show me green light, they call me boo, they hug me ( me wey be Virgin ). All my friend think sai i dey date her oh... Na so so explanation i dey give them. Well i told her my mind oh just 2day ago mk she stop all those her stunt. Me don tire!

PoliticsRe: Suffering And Smiling: Nigerians Blast I Stand With Buhari Group (photos) by MrCEO69(m): 3:26am On Apr 24, 2016
Quakertellicus1:
Sigh....puts on the propaganda hat as usual

Disclaimer: This is not a defence or an attack. Just stating facts.

1.All those Nigerians complaining....what alternatives do they propose?

2.We are in this situation because since independence....our economy has been tied to the price of the resources that we sell. If the price of the resources we sell goes down, we lose revenue....and our economy goes down.

3.Right now...the price of the main resource we sell...oil is down. As a result...the high standards of living that we enjoyed (not that everyone enjoyed it)...has fallen down too.

4.Because we are so dependent on oil...we have forgotten to manufacture things. As a result....we import. When prices are high...we can import as much as we like because we have the money. When prices fall...we can no longer import....and we have to do so at higher prices.

5.Most of the critics of Buhari.....are not really attacking him. They want to sit down and continue to import things that would make them comfy. The fact that they cannot do that is what is making them angry.

6.We can get out of this mess...by spending more on power and industrial development, and less on subsidies, as well as increasing taxes...and using the money saved to develop industrial support infrastructure....which would guarantee a prosperous future. But these people do not want that solution....because it means that we would go through a period of suffering....which they really do not want.

7. Things appeared better under the last admin because we had the forex to buffer the naira, as well as the forex to import goodies. Now...we do not have that forex....and things are harder.

8. Right now....Nigerians are grumbling. But if they want the goodies to come back....that means we have to take a loan from the IMF or we deplete our savings account to keep everyone happy. At the end of the day...we would have a brief Indian summer to be followed by a 1000 year winter.

9.Nigeria's route to economic survival lies with the development of a local industrial sector dependent on raw materials from within. It does not lie in oil.....or in fooling ourselves...the way we have been for decades....with the revenues from resources. I am afraid most Buhari ciritics do not see that. They only see that there is no more free money to chop.

The era of free things is over. Time we fixed this country.

P.S- If you want free flow of fuel....you would have to deregulate. But....most anti and even pro Buhari people do not want to pay for fuel at high prices. They want cheap fuel.

Well...that is the cold reality. We do not have money. Better tighten your seatbelts. If it is any comfort...if GEJ had saved money, and told the governors to forget sharing....it would have just delayed the evil day longer.
u r right to some extent, but what seems to amaze me is the lie and blame game!? It would v been better pdp remained in power and all these were happening.

It's so sad, it's always bad news about my country . Smh, iam so scared of withdrawing my money because this exchange rate stuff is killing , I'm sure you understand me better if you are also outside the Country , the only thing Nigerians are saying here now is " I regret being a Nigerian" Our parents are complaining from home about the exchange rate , Buhari stopped the use of Western union to any country outside Nigeria , this same buhari reduced the daily withdrawal limit to just 30k, it takes me over a month at times to withdrawal the whole of my school fee , we can't even pay our school fee anymore through direct deposit from Nigeria , imagine your tuition fee is like 400k , you can only withdrawal 30k everyday and the bank charge is like 6k per withdrawal , that's different from this exchange rate again o , definitely if your school fee is 400k , your parents most send you like 700k just because of bank charges and exchange rate and it's going to take you over a month to withdraw your school fee.
the form A is still working, for payment of sch fees abroad, i study in Ghana and that's what most of the student from Nigeria are using to pay their fees. But u v to provide some details, such as sch fees invoice, international passport, sometimes they ask for ur weac result too. And they can be creepy in asking for the original copy, when they know its cnt be possible. Well it depends on the bank. Try ecobank or diamond. Hope this helps.
