Gunmen have abducted the chairman of Kogi State Miners Association, Yunusa Oruma, from his residence at Ankpa LGA of the state.

A brother of the victim, Prince Oruma told Daily Trust on Wednesday that his brother was relaxing in his house when gunmen numbering eight invaded the place at about 8pm on Sunday and began shooting sporadically.

He said the gunmen in the process seized his brother and drove away with him, adding that no information had been heard since the incident.

He said the incident has been reported to the police and other security agencies in Ankpa, appealing for concerted efforts to secure release of the victim.

Spokesperson for the Kogi Command, William Aya, who confirmed the incident, said that efforts were ongoing by its men to rescue the victim.

Obinwanne Okeke, the Abuja-based Nigerian businessman who was arrested on August 6 in the U.S. and slammed with two counts of computer and wire fraud has been indicted for $11 million fraud.

The indictment which is the initial process before the commencement of his trial was backed by the investigation of the U.S. Department of Justice conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

If found guilty of the charges, it was recommended that he forfeits at least $11 million in cash and asset. The emerald cut engagement ring found on him when he was arrested, was also added to the list of items to be forfeited.

The recommendation came after the conclusion of investigation while he was still in custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The grand jury set up to look into the investigation, returned with an indictment of Mr Okeke for the $11 million fraud on September 9.

The Nigerian businessman listed among Forbes 100 Most Influential Young Africans in 2018, faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. It is expected that he will enter a plea deal during the commencement of his trial on September 16.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested one John Ani Chukwuebuka for his alleged involvement in computer-related fraud.

The suspect, a 30-year-old graduate, was arrested on August 5, 2019 in the Jakande-Lekki Area of Lagos during a collaborative operation by the EFCC and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.

Chukwuebuka alongside his conspirators, Idowu Adetokunbo Taiwo and Sherrif Shoaga (still at large) allegedly engaged in Business Email Compromise, BEC, where they redirected the sum of $4,000,000.00 (Four Million United States Dollar) to several accounts between 2016 and 2018.

A Nissan car was recovered from the suspect at the point of his arrest.

The suspect will be arraigned in court soon.

Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan has been handed a suspended two years and eight months prison sentence for firing a gun to incite fear and panic, illegal possession of weapons and causing intentional injury.

The Turkish ace, currently on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir, was involved in a brawl with a Turkish singer called Berkay Sahin on October 10, 2018.

Sahin was left with a broken nose after the altercation and Arda arrived in hospital later that night with a gun, which he fired at the ground to cause a panic.

Arda was charged with sexual harassment against Berkay Sahin's wife, carrying unlicensed weapons, intentional wounding, and shooting with a gun.

Basaksehir have since confirmed that they have fined the 32-year-old 2.5 million Turkish lira (£350,648) for the incident, with the final hearing of the case heard in court on Wednesday.

Arda was acquitted of sexual harassment but received a suspended two years, eight months and 15 days prison sentence for shooting with guns in a manner that would create fear, anxiety or panic and possession of unlicensed weapons.

He is not due to spend any time in jail, though, with the sentence suspended as long as he avoids any further legal issues for a period of five years.

Jack Ma, the flamboyant tech personality and the richest man in China, is leaving his $460 billion Alibaba empire 20 years after founding the company.

Ma stepped down as the chairman of Alibaba Group yesterday on his 55th birthday, as part of a long-planned succession scheme. Alibaba Group is the world's largest e-commerce group, with more than triple the total reported sales of Amazon for 2018.

Ma has picked Daniel Zhang, the CEO of Alibaba since 2015, to take over, though he is unlikely to match Ma's famous flamboyance.

Nigeria’s Olympic team, Tuesday trashed Sudan 5-0 in the last leg of the 2019 Egypt U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

Nigeria went into the match needing at least two unreplied goals to cancel their 0-1 loss to the Sudanese in the first leg on Thursday.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has appointed Fatima, daughter of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, as his Special Assistant on Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organisations.

Fatima’s husband, Idris, who is a son of the immediate past Governor of Oyo State Senator Abiola Ajimobi, made the announcement on his Instagram page.

He wrote, “Fatima Abiola-Ajimobi, I don’t know if you still believe me because I say it so often; you’re an extraordinary young woman. I have watched you struggle when you were at your lowest and noticed how you never lost faith and ‘you walk confidently in the direction of your dreams…’ The mantra you live by.

“My prayer for you, my wife, is that your courage never ceases and your light never dims.

“At such a young age, I am privileged to congratulate you on your appointment as the Special Assistant on NGOs and Civil Society to the Speaker of the National House of Representatives.”

The number of Nigerians that have indicated interest to leave South Africa has increased from 400 to 640.



Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) confirmed this while responding to questions from journalists on Monday September 9. She revealed that two aircrafts will convey the Nigerians willing to come back home, and also added that the Nigerian government is still demanding for compensation for victims of the xenophobic attacks in South Africa.



“As I speak with you now, we have 640 Nigerians voluntarily registered to come home and they will be home in a couple of days and we believe that more will still be coming to register,” she said.

“Two planes will convey them. the envoy will be briefing the president. When we receive the first two batches, we will know how many more will come. With the envoy’s briefing to the president, we will be having everything in place.

“They went on their own and have volunteered to come back. They belong to states as well but on the part of the federal government, we have the GEEP programme that we encourage them to enrol in, small scale entrepreneurial programme with the Bank of Industry, Special Intervention Programme also.

“In the meantime, we continue to demand compensation for Nigerians that have been attacked in South Africa."



Abike told newsmen that the Presidency is still expecting the report of the investigation into the death of the Deputy Director-General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Mrs Elizabeth Chukwu, who was murdered in South Africa.



On effort made by the South African government to curb the xenophobic attacks, the NIDCOM boss said eight policemen have been charged for their involvement in killing of Nigerians in South Africa and four more have been arrested.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Monday ordered the immediate voluntary evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa after days of anti-foreigners attacks in the country, his media adviser Femi Adesina said.

“Buhari has also given instruction for the immediate voluntary evacuation of all Nigerians who are willing to return home,” Adesina said in a statement.

The presidential order came after Buhari received the report of the one-man envoy, Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (DGNIA), sent to convey Buhari’s grievances to the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Special Envoy, according to Adesina, also reviewed the situation of foreign emigrants in general and Nigerians in particular.

“They agreed to work together to find a permanent solution to the root causes of the recurring attacks on Nigerians and their property,” Adesina added.

“Ramaphosa reaffirmed his stand against criminality and committed to do everything possible to protect the rights of every Nigerian and other foreign nationals in the country.”

Telecommunications giant, MTN, has announced the closure of all its shops in Nigeria.

This may not be unconnected with the threat by some Nigerians to reciprocate the Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that there had been series of attack on Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa, an action which the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama said the South African government was not doing enough to quell.

The attacks by South Africans also led to an attempt by some Nigerians to raze some South Africa-owned companies in Nigeria, including MTN, Dstv and Shoprite.

In a message to its subscribers on Wednesday, MTN Nigeria announced the closure of its shops and the operation of only its online platforms. ”Yello! Our shops are unavailable today. He died in Abuja this morning and his remains will be buried today in Lagos.

In 1990, the then Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd) began a transition Programme to civil rule, culminating in the inauguration of the thirty (30) Member Third Assembly in January 1992. Hon. (Alhaji) Shakirudeen Abayomi Kinyomi (Ojo1), an Engineer emerged as the Honorable Speaker, while Alhaji R.B Tinubu served as Clerk of the House.

A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, to urgently halt attacks against Nigerians and the wanton destruction of their property by rampaging citizens of that country.

While demanding an immediate stop to the bloodletting against innocent Nigerians, he called on the South African Government to commence the payment of adequate and commensurate compensation to the victims of the dastardly and unprovoked acts of aggression without delay.

“On behalf of Nigerians, we plead with the South African government, its youths and the enire citizens to put a stop to the wanton killing of Nigerians and destruction of their property by irate South Africans and instead fashion out ways on how Nigerians and other African countries resident in your country can live together in peace and harmony.

“We agree completely with what Julius Malema said and I quote: "South Africa is Nigeria and Nigeria is South Africa.” Therefore, let’s live in unity.

“May we also remind our South African brothers and sisters that Africa is one indivisible continent and that most African countries especially in West Africa and Nigeria in particular, helped South Africa to fight their subjugation under apartheid by generously supporting them financially, materially and otherwise until they attained the abolishment of racial segregation.

“It was not only the right thing to do but was done because Nigeria regards South Africans as our brothers and sisters.

“We urge South African youths to emulate the late icon, Nelson Mandela, who was always for peace and even forgave those that imprisoned him for 27 years. Mandela preached peace, love and forgiveness during his lifetime.

“We therefore encourage the youths to give peace a chance and allow Nigerians and other Africans resident in their country to live in harmony in the spirit of African oneness,” he said.

He urged the South African authorities to urgently evolve both legal and policy instruments to permanently stop this acts of belligerence and open aggression against Nigerians.

He also called on the leadership of the African Union (AU) to intervene and prevent needless hostilities between Nigeria and South Africa which may result if the prolonged attacks against Nigerians and their interests in the former apartheid enclave is not urgently halted.

“It is time for the AU to walk the talk by invoking the necessary sections of its charter to stop this orgy of degradation and dehumanization against Nigerians.

“The AU must prove its relevance by acting swiftly. They cannot afford to obfuscate by mouthing words while shying away from addressing the pogrom and genocide against innocent Nigerians legally residing in South Africa at this time.

“They must act to prevent this unprovoked aggression from snowballing into unimaginable proportions on both sides. A stitch in time would save nine at this trying moments,” he said.

Frank in a statement in Abuja further disclosed that he already had discussions with one of the leaders of opposition political parties in South Africa, Julius Malema, over the imbroglio and said that he would soon visit him to strategize on how to permanently end the hate induced violence against Nigerians in South Africa.

“It is most unfortunate that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and his ‘yahoo yahoo’ administration is clueless on how to protect Nigerians from this horrendous xenophobic onslaught against hapless citizens.

“Since they are presently busy organizing worthless press conferences, I took the initiative and spoke with Julius Malema, one of the most respected voices in South Africa, and urged him to prevail on his people to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

“I will be going to South Africa soon to visit Malema in order to evolve strategies and actions that would end this inhumanity being meted on innocent Nigerians by South Africans once and for all,” he said.

He pleaded with Nigerians back home to exercise restraint in the face of this grievous acts of provocation emanating from South Africa.

“If the South Africans are exhibiting madness, we must maintain our sanity by not attacking businesses owned by Nigerians here but operating under franchises owned by South Africans.

“It is unfortunate that most business outlets now suffering reprisals in the country are 100 per cent owned by Nigerians operating under franchise.

“Therefore any loss of lives or destruction of businesses in Nigeria in reaction to what is happening in South Africa would amount to double jeopardy for Nigeria,” he said.

The political activist commiserated with families that have lost loved ones in the fracas.

He also sympathized with Nigerians who have sustained injuries, lost property or businesses as a result of the attacks and urged them not to take laws into their hands but to allow justice to prevail.

The Nigeria international becomes the latest signing of the Madrid outfit ahead of their 2019-20 La Liga campaign

Leganes have confirmed the signing of Chidozie Awaziem on a season-long loan from Portuguese giants Porto.

The switch to Spain is the 22-year-old's third loan spell outside of Portugal after previous stints in France with Nantes and in the Turkish Super Lig with Rizespor.

Since he started his professional career at Porto in 2015, Awaziem has struggled to secure a regular first-team spot.


The versatile defender spent the second half of the 2018-19 season at Rizespor and helped the club avoid relegation from the Turkish top-flight after 16 league appearances.

This summer, Awaziem was part of the Nigeria squad that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where he played six games.

He will reunite with compatriot Kenneth Omeruo, Ghana's Owusu Kwabena and Morocco's Youssef En-Nesyri in Mauricio Pellegrino's squad.

Leganes will begin their 2019-20 La Liga campaign against Osasuna on Saturday.
