Biodun from Abuja posted: "I was going through the papers this morning when something caught my attention. On one of the pages of Guardian Newspaper is an advertorial – more like a call to action directed at the youths by ballot evolution. The name Ballot Evolution generates a unique excitement in me, the kind I felt when I got the YouWin grant. Only this time, the excitement is deeply profound and not self-serving. Here is a movement of patriotic youths – only patriotism can drive a Nigerian youth to think responsibility at a time when society seems to place emphasis personal aggrandisement). The movement could not have come up with a better name that sums up the yearnings and aspirations of youths for Nigeria. I am particularly inspired by the evolving Ballot. For one, it is an apt representation of the ballot in Nigeria which is seen as evolving. The name Youth Ballot Evolution appears to demonstrate, and quite rightly so, the vastly unrealised dreams that Nigerian youths can make come true via the ballot. The message in the paper reminds the seemingly docile Nigerian youths that they hold the proverbial yam and knife in the coming 2015 general election – a bargaining chip that they should hold on to, deterrence to every unruly politician who fails to. For what can be more powerful than a force that is 53 million persons strong – more than 75% of registered voters. The message reminds us that our strength lies in our number At a time when the Nigerian youth is increasingly associated with various vices, Youth Ballot Evolution presents a new vista of hope that represents what I stand for. I have earnestly and continually seek a confirmation that there are others like me who believe that youths of this country can be motivated to participate actively and meaningfully in the country’s electoral process. Fellow Nigerian youths, have our share of blame in Nigeria’s stock of woe. But history has so far been very patient and fair to us. But now is the time to redeem ourselves. Let us take responsibility for our future, should we fail history will judge. The 2015 general elections is a unique opportunity for us to get it right. May I conclude with the Youth Ballot Evolution Mantra: Remember Your Vote, Your Choice, Your Destiny." Ayoswit:This is the problem with Nigerian youth, how long will we continue to sit idly by and watch the older generation dictate what our destiny should be? We are not and never will be affiliated with any political party. We are an informed youth and we have decided to take a step. If all Nigerian youth can take these same steps we are taking, Nigeria will be a better place. Thank you as you see this a wake up call; a call to action. |
Fellow Nigerian youth, We have our destinies in our own hands. If we do not act now, the future may be two late. This is not about PDP or APC or APGA, it is about empowering ourselves with useful information that will help us make the right choices. We have been making the same mistakes over and over again by sitting idly on the sidelines. Now is the time to act. Who We Are I live and work in Nigeria. I am a global citizen, highly creative, vibrant, focused, energetic, and independent-minded and a global citizen. I am also, more politically aware. But this does not describe me. It describes every Nigerian Youth, irrespective of their tribe, ethnicity, religion or even their level of education. We do not only see ourselves as tomorrow’s leaders, we also see ourselves as a force that determines who the leaders of our today will be. What We Have We have got the numbers. With a population of well over 53million; almost twice the total votes cast in 2011 and about 75% of the current registered voters, the Nigerian Youth form the largest subgroup in Nigeria. This means that the destiny of our beloved nation is in our hands. If we so choose, we can steer the direction of our nation if we all play more active roles in the nation’s political decisions and leadership. We have got the energy. We have got new perspectives. We have the network. We have all it takes to make a difference. What We Can Achieve By choosing to move off the sidelines; by choosing to stop sitting on the fence, we can (and will) impact our nation. Like a mighty tsunami, we can dislodge those who are opposed to the nations rising. As we participate enthusiastically and constructively in the political process, the entire nation will hear our voice-one voice-loud and clear through the ballot. As we give support to those who share our vision of Nigeria, we will rise to fulfill our potential as the giant of Africa. This is our time! This is the hour! A brighter future beckons. Join us to keep the ship of the nation sailing on the right course to greatness. Let’s vote right. Your Vote. Your Choice. Your Destiny. The movement is picking up momentum. We the Nigerian youth must step and set our destiny. We represent 73% of the voting population, which is more than half. We have the numbers to make things happen. It's just a pity that so many youth out there do not care about what goes on around them. The effect of this in the long run is catastrophic. We must arise! Your Vote. Your Choice. Your Destiny. Youth Ballot Evolution See us on Guardian and Thisday newspapers. |
