The take-off and landing of an aircraft is very essential and this particular aircraft was fated to crash. Imagine off all the places the metal object which sliced the tyre could have been it chosed exactly the aircraft tyre lane. Even if the plane had successfully gotten to it's next location without anything affecting the fuel tank,landing with a bad tyre would have been a big issue too...
