SamEdozieJM: Global Igbo Alliance (GIA), a conglomerate of Igbo associations around the world has released the result of the opinion poll it conducted among the Igbo to ascertain what the ethnic nationality want following the political situation and recent ugly developments in Nigeria.
Recently, the spate of agitations for restructuring of the country has assumed a frightening dimension, with the Igbo calling for self-determination, while others are calling for regional autonomous government.
According to the opinion poll/ survey recently organised by an Australian-based research firm, Bizopt Solutions, on behalf of Global Igbo Alliance, the outcome of the poll showed that 80.45 percent of the participants were angling for Biafran Republic.
A statement signed by the president of GIA, Dr. Christian Duru and the General Secretary, Prisca Chinwe Ebo stated that participants, drawn from 36 states of the federation plus the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, were asked to choose if they wanted a republic of Biafra, a regional autonomous government, modelled after the 1963 constitution or if they wanted to remain in one united Nigeria as it is today. According to the report, the percentage participations of the states are detailed as follows:
Abia State recorded eight percent participation, Adamawa State – 0.08 percent, Akwa Ibom State – 2.97 percent, Anambra State – 11.72 percent, Bauchi State – 0.25 percent, Bayelsa State- – 3.05 percent, Benue State – 6.68 percent, Borno State – 0.08 percent, Cross River State – 3.63 percent, Delta State – 5.61 percent, Ebonyi State – 7,51 percent, Edo State – 1.40 percent, Ekiti State – 0.083 percent, Enugu State – 10.40 percent, FCT Abuja – 4.79 percent, Gombe – 1.16 percent, Imo State – 18.23 percent, Jigawa State – 0.33 percent, Kaduna State – 0.41 percent, Kano State – 0.74 percent and Katsina state with 0.25 percent participation. Others are Kwara State with 0.41 percent participation, Kogi State – 0.25 percent, Kebbi State – 0.30 percent, Lagos State – 3.80 percent, Nasarawa State – 0.15 percent, Ogun State – 0.33 percent, Ondo State – 0.33 percent, Oyo State – 0.25 percent, Plateau State – 0.33 percent, Rivers State – 4.87 percent, Sokoto State – 0.15 percent, Taraba State – 0.15 percent, Yobe State – 0.25 percent and Zamfara State with 0.15 percent participation.
The report revealed that over 80.45 percent of the Igbo indicated that they want Biafra; 17.99 percent indicated their preference for regional autonomous government, modelled after the 1963 constitution, while the remaining 1.57 percent wants to remain in Nigeria as it is today.
GIA said even though, the survey was meant for the Igbo; over 8.50 percent non-Igbo participated in the process, with over 94. 22 percent of the respondents, falling into the age bracket of 18 and above. The survey result found a very strong support for Biafra identified mainly in the southern state. The group noted that the survey, which was the first of its kind, demonstrated preference for Biafra as the first choice for the Igbo people. “It clarifies what the Igbo want. This is the first time a statistical evidence is presented, indicating that a wide majority of the Igbo people want Biafra,” GIA submitted.
The survey results also found that those who want regional autonomous government came a distant second with 17.99 percent, whereas those who want Nigeria as presently constituted came last with a skimpy 1.57 percent; a clear indication that nobody wants to be in Nigeria with its current structure. Following the outcome of the survey, GIA is calling on the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government and its relevant agencies and stakeholders to listen to the voice of the people, and respect their will. “If after 100 years of co-existence, the various components that make up Nigeria still find it impossible to co-exist without violence, then the structure calls for a review. The religious intolerance, unwarranted killings of innocent citizens by the Nigerian military and Fulani herdsmen, the in-depth corruption in Nigeria and the ill-treatments and marginalization of the Igbo and others in Nigeria has given rise to the fear, faithlessness, anger and agitations in the land, which necessitated the opinion poll. Something needs to be done now and urgently,” the group stated. The group went further to say that “the present Nigerian government should do the needful by starting the process of consultation with the various tribes and parts of Nigeria to discuss how they wish to continue in the Nigerian project. There is no gain saying that Nigeria is in crisis and has hopelessly remained unworkable for so long. The earlier we accept these facts and opt for a change of the current structure through self-determination or regional autonomy for the component parts, the better for all and sundry. The current Nigerian government knows that to continue to live in denial about Nigeria is not only deceitful and counter-productive but also very dangerous. “A responsible and ingenious government does not ignore the will of her people. Any leader, be it in government or any other human endeavour that altruistically claims a role in emancipation of mankind, cannot afford to ignore the will of the people.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/03/opinion-poll-shows-overwhelming-igbo-majority-wants-biafra/amp/
This has always been the position of majority of igbos since after the Nigerian/Biafran war that's the reason the core north don't want any kind of referudum in Nigeria.
Propaganda as usual so why haven't this govt arrested all those bloodthirsty killers who massacred thausands of innocent men and women in benue, southern kaduna, platue, enugu, taraba etc or are these killers ghosts?
This man doesn't even know anything how is Jonathan an Igbo man? Is it because of the appointments of few Igbo intellectuals who worked for his govt? Well I will still blame gej and all those Igbos in his govt for not siting any major federal projects in the east like buhari is currently doing for the SW.
olasco2035: LETS CELEBRATE THIS HERO OF OUR TIME! He is not crazy he is a HERO.
Lets celebrate him.
He might look rough, he is called "one man one bullet" he has been fighting boko haram for 6years plus. His colleagues call him "overstay", he has experienced close to 84 attacks in different locations..
His favorite quotes is "IF BOKO HARAM NO FINISH, NIGERIA NO GO SAFE AND IF NIGERIA NO SAFE MY FAMILY NO SAFE TOO I MUST FIGHT TILL THE LAST DAY"..
May God bless and keep you long to reunite with your family... Ameen
Thank God no innocent person was hurt some times bank robberies always have an insider who gives out information to the robbers I was at a uba branch on the 23th of Dec. when I saw a man wailing and telling one of the bank attendants how he just got robbed of #80k by some men with ak47 immediately after he left the bank premises. I then asked him if any one knew he was coming to the bank but he said he didn't inform anyone that he was going to the bank I now concluded that it must be the bank cashier that knew about the withdrawal that informed the robbers. I just pitied the man who said the #80k was all he had in his account. People really have to be extremely careful when making withdrawals these days from banks especially when withdrawing directly from the bank cashiers.
Revocation of Late Saraki’s Land: ‘Abdulrasaq Has Crossed the Line’
Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has stated that Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has crossed the line of decency with his recent efforts to erase the legacies of his (Saraki’s) late father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.
Saraki, in a statement he personally signed and released in Lagos today, stated that the war of attrition waged against the legacy of his father and everything that belongs to the late politician simply portrayed the Governor as a man who lacks the sense of history and set out only to fight the Saraki family but not to serve the interest of Kwarans.
“Yesterday night, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq finally showed his true colour when he announced his decision to revoke the ownership of a property rightfully held by my late father, Dr. Olusola Abubakar Saraki on Plots 1, 3 and 5 Ilofa Road, GRA, Ilorin popularly known as Ile Arugbo, (Old People’s home) which since the Second Republic, has always been used to host the weekly gathering of a multitude of aged people in the society who are provided food, money and health services, as part of the social welfare programme sponsored by the late politician. The tradition has since been maintained.
“Before now, this same Governor had invited all the members of the State House of Assembly and directed them to commence the process of amending the law to change the name of the State University which the last administration renamed after my late father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki. He then followed up on this act of vengeance by initiating a bill to rename the University and expunge the name of the late Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki. Now, he has decided to also revoke the titles of the landed property which belongs to the late politician. May be, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq thinks his will be the last administration in Kwara State but definitely, this is self delusion.
“The property had been rightfully allocated to my late father under the name of one of his companies, Asa Investment Limited, since the 1980s and contrary to the claim of the Governor, the land was properly allocated and a Right of Occupancy title issued on it. It should be noted that the excuse given by Abdulrazaq in his revocation order holds no water since it is clear that this is the height of his vengeance against my father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki and I.
“Till today, many Kwarans have been wondering what problem the Governor has with the late Oloye Abubakar Olusola Saraki or what the late politician did to offend him. It is surprising that of all vacant plots of land in strategic places across Ilorin township, the one that Abdulrahman found useful for his vengeful plan is the one owned by late Dr. Saraki. It is beyond comprehension why a Governor would set as his main agenda the objective of undermining and waging a war of attrition against a man who is no longer around.
“This action is clearly a manifestation of vengeance and it shows that this Governor is not out to serve any public purpose or pursue any development agenda. In his narrow-mindedness, he believes his victory at the polls is an empowerment, entitlement and enablement to settle scores, provoke and pursue inter-family rivalry. Those who voted for the party in power in Kwara State and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq obviously did not vote for the man to enable him wage war against Dr. Olusola Saraki and his legacies. They expected development and fulfillment of promises.
“If the Governor believes people are not taking stock of his misguided and deceptive actions and that because he is in power, he could do whatever he likes, he must be a joker. Also, this war against the Sarakis will not successfully veil his unpreparedness for governance and divert people’s attention from the glaring lack of visionary, clear-cut plan to deliver on his empty promises to the people. He definitely cannot get away with all the atrocities he has been committing.
“Since the outcome of the elections in March, despite the fact that there are clear grounds to challenge the results in court, I have decided to demonstrate maturity, statemanship and sportsmanship. I have chosen not to make comment on the policies, programmes and actions of the administration in Kwara State or that of its head. Also, I deliberately stayed away from the State to avoid creating any distraction for the administration. My decision is borne out of a genuine restraint to enable the administration settle down and fulfill its numerous promises to the people of our state.
“However, seven months down the line, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has shown that its cardinal Programme is to wage war against my late father and I. He has demonstrated that his only competence and astuteness is in the area of viciously assailing the late Oloye Saraki and I. Definitely, he is a man with no sense of history. Enough is enough. Now, he has crossed the line.
“Perhaps, I should let it be known that if Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq thinks he is taking all these actions to get at me, he is only deceiving himself. There is no basis for competition between us. Our paths cannot cross because the status that he is struggling to attain, Almighty Allah has given it to me many years before now. I became Governor 16 years before him and served out my constitutional limit of eight years. Within the period, I was Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum. I have moved on to serve in the federal legislature and by the grace of God, I headed the National Assembly as the number three man in the country. No matter, how well he tried to rewrite history, it is on record that I left Kwara State a lot better than I met it. In fact, the University that he is struggling to rename was established by my administration as just one out of many legacies we left behind. This Governor needs a lot more efforts, years, Intelligence and resources to attain the level Allah has taken me, not to talk of my late father, Dr. Olusola Abubakar Saraki, the Senate Leader in the Second Republic. As Governor, I used the position to serve the people and during the period I did not dishonour his own father or anybody’s father for that matter.
“Just as I did after the election, my advise to Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq that he should devote his time and energy to providing good governance and genuine development of the state.
“It is well known to the Governor that I fear nobody, except Almighty Allah, the ultimate owner of all powers. With all his subterranean and open moves against my family, person and property, I remain unmoved. However, his open antagonism against my late father and his legacies is unwarranted and will not be tolerated. He has definitely gone beyond bounds as he cannot be allowed to ride roughshod on the deceased. In this war against my late father, he will not win.
“This Governor has shown that he is not a man who wants peace, co-operation and development. He believes that a constant attack on my family and I is all that he needs to win the hearts of Kwara people. The need to provide good governance is secondary to him.
“However, it should be made clear to Abdulrazaq and his administration that their attack on my late father cannot erase the legacies of Oloye. No evil design, negative plot or propaganda can successfully rewrite the history of Kwara State. This plot against my late father will not stand. And I will like to make it clear that we will contest this petty, malicious, dubious and bias action of a parochial, vicious and vindictive administration through all legal means. We are sure this is not an action taken in public interest. Rather, it is done in pursuit of a selfish and devious objective”, Saraki stated.
SamuelAnyawu: South easterners we are here oh. Previously before Insurgency Igbos were in multitudes here. There is an area back then here in Maiduguri that even non-igbos can speak Igbo fluently because of the population of Igbos residing there.
I respect ur courage to still live in that bokoharam infested territory. I will be the last person to ever visit or live there with all the stories I have read no amount of money or business dealings will ever make me visit or reside there.
[b]One of my kinsman was amongst those abducted. A very nice man who sells hair attachment at Monday market here in Maiduguri.
May God give his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
But Buhari why can't you sack all your service chiefs including security Advisers.
Funnily enough some of these service chiefs and security advisers are from Borno and most of them can never visit their villages
Buhari ISWAP controls several LGAs here in Borno oooooooh. Creating a military base in the headquaters of a Local government does not mean the military controls that LGA, there are several villages in that LGA where ISWAP are breeding. ISWAP dont sleep in the open or under the trees ooooh.
I work in Monguno my President and just 3kilometers outskirts of this town towards Marte LGA is a death sentence. Should i mention Kukawa and Cross? Should i mention the Headquarters Gudzamala LGA? I dont want to even mention Baga, Doron Baga and even the Dreaded Doron naira Island.
My President do something

So people from the SS/SE are still living and doing business in borno with all the bad news coming from there?

ColonelEmeka: The Nigerian military's ground and aerial assaults have decimated the Boko Haram terrorists' splinter group, Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), during the latest gun duel in Damaturu, Yobe State, North East Nigeria.
A Nigerian Army source disclosed this on Monday, saying that ISWAP lost about 30 fighters and two Commanders including Abu Muqhtar the overall commander who led the foiled attack.
According to the military sources, not only was the attack repelled by Nigerian troops successfully, the ISWAP recorded heavy casualties with two out of four commanders mentioned in their earlier intercept neutralised.

The usa always act very late in matters like this thats why i dont like them. They should have taken very serious actions against this regime in its early yrs when thausands of innocent christains where mercilesslly massacred in benue, southern kaduna, nassarawa, adamawa, enugu etc. in the name of farmers/herders crises. Must they wait untill the world withness another rwanda genocide in nigeria before they will act?

The southern tip Of Abia where Obuaku is located, is closer to the Atlantic than any part of Imo state, including Oguta. So Oguta cannot be closer to the Atlantic than Obuaku. Oguta is far away from the Atlantic.
Pls go do a proper research about this I have read a comprehensive analysis about the oguta lake and another river that connects anambra state which I can't remember now.
