The EFCC, on Friday October 25, 2019, arraigned one Joseph Idakho alongside his company, Zamtrac Management and City Investment Limited, before Justice D. Z. Senchi of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Jabi, Abuja, for alleged conspiracy, forgery and criminal breach of trust.

He allegedly defrauded one Hajiya Halima Babangida in a real estate development transaction that went awry.

Babangida alleged in a petition to the EFCC that she entered into an agreement with the defendant’s company for development of six units of detached houses of five bedrooms each, including boys quarters, at Plot, 2398 AO6, Cadastral Zone, Maitama District, Abuja, with her contribution being the land, while the defendant was to bear other cost of development.

She claims that they had agreed to share the property equally at the end of development but discovered, to her chagrin, that the defendant commenced sale of the property even before completion without her knowledge or approval.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today, October 24, 2019, re-arraigned a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu, before Justice I. Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a four-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N1,203, 000,000.00( One Billion, Two Hundred and Three Million Naira).

Iwu was first arraigned on August 8, 2019 before Justice Chuka Obiozor, a vacation Judge, but the matter was re-assigned to Justice Oweibo for trial. 

The former INEC is alleged to have between December 2014 and March 2015, aided the concealment of the sum of N1, 203, 00,000.00(One Billion, Two Hundred and Three Million Naira) in the account of Bio-resources Institute of Nigeria (number 1018603119) domiciled in the United Bank for Africa( UBA) Plc.

EFCC arrests 10 Internet Fraud Suspects in Ilorin....Recovers Dangerous Charms, Fake Currency among others

Operatives of the EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office have arrested ten persons over their alleged offences bordering on internet fraud and other fraud related Offences.
The Suspects were arrested on Monday, October 21, 2019 in Basin Area of Ilorin following intelligence reports over their involvement on internet fraud and other fraud related Offences.

The suspects are, Paul Chibuzor, David Daniels, Tolu Ogundowole, Tosin Ogundowole, Agwu Goodness, Olayiwola Azeez, Olamide Ijisesan, Chilaka Dickson, Abdullahi Abubakar and Temitope Bambo.

The EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office on Thursday, October 17, 2019, arraigned one Alkasim Rilwanu on a one count charge bordering on Obtaining by False Pretence to the tune of over N27million before Justice Mohammed Tukur of the State High Court sitting in Kaduna.

Alkasim trouble began when the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Commission recieved a petition frim a complainant alledging that sometime in March 2019 the defendant lured him into supplying 1900 (One Thousand Nine Nundred) bags of rice at the cost of N12,500 per bag making a total sum of N23,750,000 (Twenty Three Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) only in addition of N3,610.000 (Three Million, Six Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) as transportation from Mashi- Katsina State at a cost of N190,000 per Bus totalling N27,360,000 with a promised of paying within one week. But Alkasim allegedly defaulted and defrauded the victim.

The Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Friday October 11, 2019 presented a sum of one hundred and twelve million naira ( N112million) recovered from treasury looters to the Kwara state governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Speaking during the presentation at the office of the EFCC in Ilorin, the Zonal Head, Isyaku Sharu said the Zone which started its operations in February has achieved a lot in terms of assets recovery and conviction of corrupt individuals.

"We have 29 convictions and over N500million (five hundred million naira) recovery for both assets and cash; part of this recovery is the N111, 428, 891.00 cash recovered for the Kwara state government.

"This recovery is from suspected Kwara state treasury looters. The suspects allegedly misappropriated landed properties of Harmony Holdings while others diverted funds meant for micro small and medium enterprises credit scheme. The suspects cut across political office holders, traditional rulers and top civil servants," he said.

He added that he was mandated by the acting chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu to present a draft for the recovered fund, while assuring of the agency's steadfastness in ridding the state of all acts of corruption and other economic crimes.

In his response, Governor Abdulrazaq thanked the EFCC and disclosed that the cash will be used for the social investment programme in the state to lift poor people out of poverty.

"We are overwhelmed because history is being made in Kwara state with the return of our monies recovered by the EFCC especially now that there are many projects to embark on.

"As we promised to replicate the federal government social investment programmes, this cash would be used for that programme and we will make our people realise that the seed money for social investment programme before we came into power was also recovered.

"We would let our people know that it is the money realised by the EFCC we are giving them so that they can pay back when they get the loan. It will help to lift thousands of people out of poverty," he said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office on Thursday, October 10, 2019 arraigned seven suspected SIM Swap criminals in Kaduna.

They are: Okafor Samuel Obinna, Chigbo Pascal Chidi, Oha Chukwujekwu, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu, Ugonna Nelson Owete, Ikenna Henry and Chinyere Aniobi Jessica.

They were arraigned on two counts bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence before Justice Mohammed Tukur of the Kaduna State High Court.

Operatives of the EFCC had earlier in September, arrested six of them. They specialize in defrauding innocent Nigerians by using bank details obtained through their SIM cards swapped on Automated Teller Machine ATM.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Okafor Samuel Obinna, Chigbo Pascal Chidi, Oha Chukwujekwu, Ahamefula Francis Izuchukwu, Ugonna Nelson Owete, Ikenna Henry and Chinyere Aniobi Jessica and others now at large sometime in 2019 at Kaduna Judicial Division of the High Court of justice Kaduna State with the intent to defraud falsely obtained the sum of N2,911,480.00 (Two Million Nine Hundred and Eleven Thousand Four Hundred and Eighty Naira) from the Diamond Bank (now Access Bank)account of one Abdulrauf Bolaji, which was transferred after his SIM swap to several accounts under the pretence that the said sum was transferred by him, which you all knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offence Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.”

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

Following their plea, counsel for the EFCC, S.H. Sa'ad urged the court to fix a date for commencement of trial, and for the remand of the defendants in Correctional Service

Counsel for the defence, Usman Liman, however, informed the court that his clients had opted for a plea bargain, and intended to change their plea to “guilty”.

In a short ruling, Justice Tukur, ordered that six of them be remanded in Correctional Service custody, while Jessica should be remanded in EFCC custody due to her ill health and fixed October 11, 2019 for “hearing on the plea bargain application”.

Omo Buhari get good eye for women

Emmanuel Acheampong, a senior lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Business School, has come out to share his experience on how a Nigerian female student in one of the country’s universities allegedly offered him sex-for-grade.

Acheampong who spoke on Ahotor FM in the wake of ‘sex for grades’ expose by the BBC Africa Eye, said: “She was a Nigerian student who wanted to pass without studying'' and that the student had included her naked picture and telephone number in her answer booklet after writing his paper.

When I opened the paper, it was an empty sheet with her naked picture and telephone number under it. I called her and with my background as a Christian, I counselled her,” he revealed.

I failed her woefully, Dr. Acheampong said. Acheampong also said he usually gives out questions before the examination to avoid anything of the sort. This practice discourages students from coming to you, he said.

University of Ghana and University of Lagos, whose lecturers were indicted in the documentary have suspended the lecturers.

A University of Nigeria, Nsukka lecturer, Joseph Nnaemeka Chukwuma has alleged that BBC's #Sexforgrades documentary which exposed some randy lecturers in Nigeria and Ghana was doctored.

The UNN lecturer who is also a Pastor, told men to be careful as some girls will come to them, seduce and accuse them of sexual harassment.

He also said a critical evaluation of the documentary showed "the girl went to seduce the lecturer in his office and it was edited".

Osun State Govt set to convert park to Joint Task Force for Security Agencies

The Osun State Government led by Governor Gboyega Oyetola is working towards improving the level of security in the state.

According to a latest report, the Governor has given directive for the popular Olajoku's park in Gbongan area of the state to be rehabilitated and converted to a Joint Task Force for security agencies.

Gov. Oyetola confirmed the report as he wrote,

"In our determination to effectively police the Osogbo-Gbongan-Ibadan road, the popular Olajoku's park located at Gbongan junction will be rehabilitated and converted to a Joint Task Force for security agencies. I was there today to inspect the facilities."

The Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki as took to his twitter account to react to the see for grades scandal uncovered by BBC African Eye.

He tweeted saying..

As a father, I'm appalled by the actions of lecturers captured in the #SexForGrades exposé. We cannot allow this sort of deplorable behaviour to fester.
In 2016, my colleagues and I in the 8th Senate passed the "Sexual Harassment in Tertiary Education Institution Prohibition Bill" to prescribe a 5 year jail term for any lecturer, educationist or person in a position of authority in any tertiary institution in Nigeria found...
... guilty of such conduct.

I appeal to the 9th Senate & President @MBuhari to revisit this Bill so that we can implement the institutional reforms necessary to safeguard our children in educational institutions in the country.

I also urge the institutions to conduct robust investigations, not only on the accused but also for all other reports and complaints that come in. We need to believe victims and make institutions safer for our students.

Ex-footballer, woman arrested at hotel in Imo for unlawfull possession of hard drugs suspected to be cocaine.

The Imo State Police command on Wednesday, paraded two suspects arrested at a hotel in Nekede for unlawfull possession of hard drugs suspected to be cocaine.

The state’s Police Commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo, identified the suspects as Aidomoaki Samson, 28, who claimed to be an ex-footballer and his female accomplice Iwuagwu Ezinne, 24.

"On 30/09/2019, upon discreet intelligence, Aidomoaki Samson was arrested at Aleke Hotel, Nekede, Imo State, alongside Ezinne Iwuagwu, who he contracts to send text messages in pretence as his sister overseas," he said.

"Upon interrogation, he confessed that he was an ex-footballer who played for shooting star football Club, Oyo State. He was barred from playing football due to drug related offence. He is based in Benin Republic and Ghana. He impersonates as a nationale of Ghana while investigation has revealed that he is from Edo State, Nigeria. He deals on hard drugs in several countries like Uganda, Addis Ababa, Turkey, Ghana, Morocco, Colombia and then Nigeria. His syndicate member one Mr. Eric in Italy disappointed him in Nigeria hence he then started the manufacturing of fake hard drugs with the intention to dupe and defraud people." he added.
