The trial of Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Akeem Jimoh who is accused of serially defrauding people of their lands commenced on Monday, July 15, 2019 before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin with the prosecution calling two witnesses that included Babatunde Shittu, a key prosecution witness and EFCC operative.

Shittu told the court that the EFCC received a petition from one Mr Chukwudi sometime in March 2019, alleging that the defendant defrauded him of about N1.6million (One Million six hundred thousand Naira) landed property.

According to him, Jimoh received a power of attorney from the landlord to sell his land, and that aside selling the land to various persons, he did not remit the money to the owner.

"The defendant stopped picking the complainant's calls after this incident. Upon his arrest, his family and friends put pressure on the complainant and he withdrew his petition," Shittu said.

While being led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Sessan Ola, the witness further disclosed that "The Commission received a transferred case file from Ibadan Zonal Office the EFCC where one Alhaji Saka Kareem claimed that he gave power of attorney to the defendant to sell 20 out of 35 plots of his land, situated at Tanke in Ilorin. He sold the whole 35 and diverted the money to his own personal use. Upon his family intervention, the second petitioner also withdrew his petition that he was no longer interested in the case."

Another petition against the lawyer came from one Ogunleye Dare Benjamin, who claimed that he bought a plot of land from Jimoh in 2011, and by the time he went there in 2018, he discovered that the land had been fenced. Upon visiting the site with the lawyer, he (Barrister Jimoh) denied having knowledge of the person who erected the fence.

Shittu, a Principal Detective Superintendent of the EFCC said "My Lord, our investigations reveal that one Titiayo George bought the land in 2006. We invited her and she explained to us that she bought the land from one Ojigiri Samuel who bought the land from the defendant."

Prosecuting counsel sought to tender the confessional statements of the defendants to the EFCC during interrogation to which the lead defence counsel V.O Aluko objected saying his client made the statement under duress, harassment and intimidation.

Justice Abdulgafar adjourned the case to Tuesday, July 16, 2019 for trial within trial.

Arsenal have offered £40 million plus three players to Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha, according to reports.

Unai Emery’s side have already seen their opening bid of £40m turned down by Palace, who are demanding £80m for their star attacker.

The Gunners are restricted this summer with a £45m budget and Zaha’s valuation is well beyond their price range.

But according to The Sun, Arsenal have attempted to bridge the gap by offering £40m plus Mohamed Elneny, Calum Chambers and Carl Jenkinson to Palace.

The report claims that Arsenal value the three players at £40m and will remind Palace that the offer would reduce the sell-on fee owed to Manchester United.

United are entitled to 25 per cent of Zaha’s transfer fee as Palace failed to remove the clause during their negotiations for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, has in the last six months secured 83 convictions and recovered N116,945,981.68 (One Hundred and Sixteen Million, Nine Hundred and Forty-Five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Eighty-One Kobo).

The Zonal Head, Friday Ebelo, made the disclosure on Monday, June 24, 2019, during a press briefing held at the Commission’s office, Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan.

Ebelo who took over headship of the zone on January 31 added that the zone has made tremendous success within the period.

“With the unwavering support of our Chairman and other stakeholders, the zone has recorded remarkable successes in the period under review,” he said.

According to him, the zone received 481 petitions out of which 117 were rejected because they did not fall under the Commission’s mandate. Out of the remaining 364 that were approved for investigation, 107 had investigations on them concluded with cases filed in court.

“We were able to secure 83 convictions out of the 107 cases filed at different courts within the zone. That represents 83% of the total number of cases” he added.

While speaking further on the money recovered, Ebelo said: “Others in foreign currency include $39,125 (Thirty-Nine Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Five United States Dollars), €1,800 (One Thousand, Eight Hundred Euros) and £50 (Fifty Pounds).”

The EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Head also said the last six months witnessed the recovery of 65 vehicles among which 54 were registered.

While appreciating the Nigerian press for its partnership with the Commission, Ebelo sought cooperation with members of the public, saying the fight against corruption would only yield fruit if every Nigerian shows commitment.

“This is our country and we all have the responsibility to make it better for ourselves and the coming generations".

Recently, Davido's girlfriend, Chioma Roland, popularly known as Chef Chi, took to her Instagram page to alert the public of her desire to sue someone.

It is alleged that the young chef who turned 23 last year was hinting on suing Ubi Franklin. The businessman, who is the owner of Made Men Music, Instant Group of Companies, and a host of other businesses, was allegedly paid to facilitate the cooking show sponsored by Dunes Abuja but has not done much.

The cooking show has been highly anticipated by many, because publicity for it started since 2018. According to Chef Chi and Davido's posts earlier this year, it was supposed to start airing in February but nothing has been announced.

Rumour has it that all is set as Davido went all out and even purchased a restaurant for Chef Chi in Lagos, the former Escape Club in Victoria Island owned by Duke of Spades. It is alleged that Chef Chi is pissed because many fans have been asking about the show and she has nothing to show for it, hence her threat to sue.


Ubi has been in the news weekly for one thing or the other, recently Sandra Iheuwa his latest baby mama publicly accused Ubi of defrauding her of 8 million Naira and after much threats ended up paying only half of the money. Ubi neither accepted or refuted these claims as he remained silent throughout.


It is alleged that Ubi Franklin is a serial scam artist and might have used the money given to him by Davido to build his hotel and Abuja. Also some claim he alledgedly sponsored his ex wife Lilian Esoro's trip to Dubai recently. It is rumoured that he pays Lilian Esoro regularly for her silence on most of what she suffered and endured during her marriage to him.

Well Ubi is yet to comment on any of the accusations. Chef Chi is also yet to go further with her threat of suing her offender.

Operatives of the special task force of the Uyo Zonal Office of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday June 20, 2019, made a harvest of eleven suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as 'Yahoo Boys' in an apartment on Parliamentary Extension, Akai Efa, Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The all male suspects are: Endurance Ahunwan (28), Nohuwan Frank (26), Dominic Chidiebere (28), Idehe Efosa (17), Patrick Edos (27), Samuel Ukiwe (21) and Michael Edward 25.

Others are: Destiny Efe (17), Hope Yusuf (19), Harrison Esi (17) and Igbinigun Osamudia (17).

Seventeen-year-old Esi was found hiding in the roof of the apartment along with some of their tools of operation. According to him, their leader, Ahunwan instructed him to conceal himself and the gadgets in the roof in order to prevent his arrest and confiscation of the tools.

"Our leader ordered me to hide in the ceiling with the gadgets so that I will not be nabbed also," Esi said.

Upon arrest, Ahunwan the prime suspect, confessed that he recruited the team, saying they were paying back Europeans for stealing from their forefathers. .

He also alleged that the parents of the arrested accomplices gave their consent and pleaded with him to help their children secure a means of livelihood.

Items recovered from the suspected fraudsters include: 10 laptops, 8 internet modems, several sophisticated telephone handsets, including one iphone, technical devices and scam emails.

Similarly, seven suspected internet fraudsters were on Friday, June 21, 2019 arrested by officers of the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Commission.

The suspects, whose age ranged between 20 and 33 years were apprehended around 5a.m in an apartment along Ihejirika Close, Becky, Karu, Nasarawa State.

They include: Peter Olu Tsetimi, Ogunbiyi Adekunle A, Emuze Omosigho Emmanuel and Isaac Daro Obozokhai.

Others are: Samuel Nana-Kofi Eruese, Edward Yusuf and Peace Manayin (female).
