Education / Re: ASUU To Call Off Strike On Wednesday by mrinfo(m): 1:32pm On Jan 30, 2012
Before you begin to run your mouth like an uncouth, uncultured ignormaus read carefully. The news report quoted sources from Daily Trust and besides it's only a fool that goes to the net once in a month who wouldn't know that ASUU as at late last week said they would hold a NEC meeting to review the FG's concessions and come out with a position on whether to call off the strike this week or not.
Education / ASUU To Call Off Strike On Wednesday by mrinfo(m): 1:02pm On Jan 30, 2012
Academic Staff Union of Universities is set to call off its strike action after its consultation with individual striking universities on the offer made by the Federal Government.

ASUU had been on strike for over two months now demanding increased funding for universities as well as increased wages and retirement age for members from 65 to 70 years.

A reliable source told Daily Trust that the leadership of the union under Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie has finished consultations with members and members have accepted government’s offer even though he refused to state what had been offered.
Professor Awuzie is expected to make the pronouncement suspending the strike action on Wednesday.

Business / 9 Most Profitable Areas To Start A Business In 2012 by mrinfo(m): 4:58pm On Jan 28, 2012
As we go into year 2012 we bring to you a critical analysis of the most promising business niches for startups. These are niches we believe will further push the limits of tech based business in Nigeria and Africa. These are potential areas that will make impact in the coming year and hopefully make a few more tech millionaires in the continent. Below is the list. Enjoy!

1. Educational Technologies: Startups are springing up pretty quickly across Nigeria and Africa trying to solve myriads of problems from communication to agriculture, payment/commerce and so on yet there is a sector in the continent which is in dire need of the tech revolution; the educational sector. 2012 will be a nice time to see real tech ideas meant to make education a far easier, enjoyable and fruitful process. Real startups that will aim at providing quick, real time solutions to educational challenges in the continent will attract attention primarily because it will be doing something different and revolutionary. The startups to watch that may be already attempting to do something in that sector are few and far between. Skoola is one of them.

2. Digital Content Sharing Platforms: Quite a couple of years back Africans and Nigerians had to buy CDs to watch movies and listen to favourite music. Sharing videos was limited apart from Youtube. Now sharing digital content is becoming ever faster and easier and what’s more ground breaking digital content sharing is coming to Nigeria. IrokoTV, Sturvs, etc are gradually changing the way we watch movies and listen to music. In 2012 music distribution in Nigeria and Africa will go digital. Book publishing and distribution is still very much traditional and some of that will change. The fact that books (such as Steve Jobs’ biography by Walter Isaacson) are being sold in electronic formats and watched in digital devices like the Kindle show that content is going digital (written, audio, video, graphic). 2012 may usher in new startups that distribute the music content of Nigerian musicians on smart devices which people pay to download.

3. Collaborative Commerce: In today’s fast moving world it is either you get alliances or risk being ridden over. Commerce is becoming more collaborative and will even become more in 2012. Merchants and Product sellers will have to get used to price comparison mechanisms and applications where people can quickly compare prices with their mobile device before buying. Deals sites are looking to get merchants and sellers to offer specific number of deals to get more exposure and more things sold. Commerce will sure undergo more fundamental changes in 2012 and commerce and merchandise firms will collaborate more. Technology will affect shopping more than it has ever done.

Adverts / Re: Access Bank Is Set To Sack Over 1500 Staff Of Intercontinental Bank On 30/10/12 by mrinfo(m): 4:40pm On Jan 28, 2012
Make we hear word. For crying out loud inasmuch as this is not a welcome news we are in a capitalist economy and you have no right stopping a company from downsizing to remain profitable. We can only make sure those to be sacked are paid their entitlements. They never signed a contract to work for Intercontinental Bank forever.

Business / How Your Business Can Benefit From The Cbn's Cashless Policy by mrinfo(m): 5:02pm On Jan 27, 2012
Last year the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) introduced a policy on cash based transactions aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on a cash economy and reducing the inherent costs of moving cash that banks and other financial institutions incur as a result.

The policy already known as the ‘cash policy’ of the CBN stipulates a cash withdrawal limit of N150,000 for individuals and N1,000,000 for corporate organisations. Extra cash withdrawals above the stated limit attracts 10% fine of the excess amount for individuals and 20% for corporate bodies.

According to the CBN the cashless policy was introduced to modernise and develop Nigeria’s payment system in line with th vision 2020 goal, reduce cost of banking services which also involved moving around a lot of cash and improve the effectiveness of the monetary policy.

While the CBN monetary policy does involve other rules such as allowing only licensed cash in transit (CIT) companies to provide cash pickup services we are concerned in this article with the cash withdrawal aspects and check issuing rules in the policy as it will affect your business.

As the policy is set to take off in Lagos by 30th March 2012 you should already be prepared to turn your business or company into a cashless or near cashless one and save costs in the process. Here’s how you can key into the Central Bank’s cashless policy and save money for your business;

Business / Re: Where Can I Get Internet Traffic In Nigeria? by mrinfo(m): 3:16pm On Jan 20, 2012
If you wish to buy traffic via ad networks I suggest you go for Google Adwords. Advertising with Google consistently gives higher returns on money spent.
