Business / How To Develop Top Notch Customer Service Culture In Your Company by mrinfo(m): 12:12pm On Jul 02, 2013
Customer Service in many organisations in Nigeria always leaves much to be desired. Managers and CEOs spend millions promoting their company’s various products and service offerings but end up losing hundreds and in some cases thousands of new and old customers as a result of shabby customer service handling.

In today’s world of fierce business dealings and struggle for market share small and medium scale businesses cannot afford to ignore the customer service department.

The Least Costly Way to Promote Your Business

Depending on the nature of your business word-of-mouth can be a very strong and powerful means of developing new interest and stimulating conversations around your products and service offerings. If you are not as cash ladden as your competitors investing in a solid, result oriented and satisfaction purusing customer service plan will do wonders for your business.

Developing a strong customer service culture at the workplace and throughout the company dwells on several things you can do.

Treat Your Team Well

Superb customer service starts from your people. If your people are not treated well and happy to work for the organisation you can hardly expect them to treat your customers with respect and courtesy. A healthy and positive workforce is crucial if you wish to turn your company into a positive customer service organisation

Empower to With Sufficient Responsibilities
Customer Service means nothing if your people cannot solve the issues and problems brought to them by both prospective and existing customers. It does your organisation more harm when the customer service attendant has to keep asking a customer to check back in two days because he doesn’t have the authority to handle her (the customer’s case) and cannot channel the issue quickly enough to the right authorities.

If a particular complaint is too complex for the customer service/front desk team to handle there should be very fast channels of getting the right person(s) to look into the issues and resolve them.

Your attendants calm and soothing voice over the phone will only keep the customer patient for sometime and then when it appears the solution he seeks isn’t forthcoming the courtesy and apologies wouldn’t count for much. Results are what matters in the market place. The customer needs their issues to be fixed and they will go on trusting your organisation to take care of their needs.

Career / Tips On Starting A Career In The Non-profit Sector by mrinfo(m): 5:46pm On Jun 12, 2013
Source: http://blog.ngcareers.com

It is often seen as many career individuals struggle to land jobs in mainstream and well known sectors and industries that they often overlook the fact that the Non-Profit sector has one of the most comfortable careers possible. In many not for profit organisations you do work that you actually care about and that impacts on your immediate environment and people positively.

It may appear that the Not for Profit (or Non-Governmental) organisations are places where mostly women work but there are equally opportunities for men as well in almost all areas of not-for-profit work.

If you are seeking a career in the Not-For-Profit area where your zeal to help better humanity will manifest to the fore you will do well to consider some of the important tips below. They will not only help make your job search in the Non-Governmental/Not-for-Profit sector effective but will help you actually get a job there that you will care about and enjoy.

What Sector of Non-Profit (NGO) Work Do You Wish to Do

It is not enough to just want to work in the Not-for-Profit sector you have to be clear on where your passions are as there are many types of Non-Profit organisations focusing on key, seperate issues such as Youths development, Women and Gender Issues, HIV/AIDs, Child Trafficking, Charity etc. Non-Profit Work has to be in an area where you are comfortable and have the passion to put in your best so you will be better positioned if you choose to work in areas that align with your passion.

Just as in for-profit organisations NGOs and NFPs (Not-for-profits) also have departments such as finance, marketing/publicity, operations, statistics etc and it is left for you to decide if you are going to work in any of the departmental capacities or just go straight into the advocacy and development aspects which is mostly what many people do at Not for Profit Organisations.

Finding Not For Profit Organisations to Work for

Non-Profit organisations are either local or international and pay can vary wildly from organisation to organisation. Seeking to work in Non-Profit will mean setting aside money as the primary consideration (though many of the international agencies and some local well funded organisations pay well enough) and looking for organisations with objectives that match what you wish to do.

You can start your search by checking out latest Jobs in Not-for-Profit/NGO in Nigeria on our career site. As stated earlier you could work as a driver, accountant, statistician, biologist, economist, community developer, country manager etc in an NGO as NGOs are well run organisations that have several departments. The work you settle for will depend on what you wish to do.

You can also search out the various viable Non-Profit organisations in Nigeria and start sending in introductory application letters whether they have any listed vacancy or not.

What Skills Do You Need

Depending on what areas of the non-profit sector you wish to work in you will need to find out what skills you need to be considered. Check out previous related vacancies for similar positions and identify the key capabilities you will be required to have.

Network

In the non-profit sector networks and referrals work well. Find out someone you know who works in a reputable Non-Profit organisation and start getting information on how you can secure opportunities in the sector. If you have little or no prior skills and experience you should be willing to start as a volunteer or work on a part time basis.

Politics / Supreme Court Sentences Naval Officer To Life Imprisonment For Killing Okadaman by mrinfo(m): 12:04pm On Jun 08, 2013
The Supreme Court, Friday, sentenced a former naval chief, Mr Felix Olanrewaju Odunlami to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of snuffing life out of a commercial motorcycle rider in Lagos State in 2005.

The apex court, in a lead judgment prepared by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, equally affirmed the dismissal of the convict from the Nigerian Navy as earlier decided by the General Court Martial and the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

Specifically, Lieutenant Odunlami, with force number: NN 2121 was said to have killed the motorcyclist identified as Peter Edeh after the deceased accidentally brushed his car.

The convict was said to be travelling from the Lagos State Secretariat at Alausa in Ikeja to Apapa on July 25, 2005, when at the Allen Roundabout, the deceased hit his car from behind with his motorcycle.

On realising that the owner of the car was military personnel, Edeh was said to have knelt down to beg Odunlami for forgiveness.

However, Odunlami who was deeply infuriated, ignored Edeh’s plea, reached for his pistol from its holster and shot the deceased in his mouth thereby resulting to his instant death.

Enraged by the hard-hearted action of the convict, passers-by were said to have pounced on him immediately and burnt his car. It took the quick intervention of the police to rescue him from the mob which insisted that he ought to die.

Meantime, after an in-depth investigation into the circumstances that surrounded the case, Odunlami, was on January 27, 2006, arraigned before a General Court Martial on a three-count charge.

He was charged with manslaughter, loss of service item (for not being able to convincingly account for four rounds of 9mm live ammunition) and conduct to the prejudice of service discipline.

His offences were said to have ran contrary and punishable under sections 68(1)(a), 103(i) AFA 105 and 106 of the Armed Forces Act Cap A 20 laws of Nigeria.

He was subsequently found guilty and convicted on counts one and two, even as the court sentenced him to life imprisonment for manslaughter and dismissed him from service on count two.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, the convicted naval officer went on appeal and lost. In its judgment delivered on January 31, 2011, the appellate court upheld the Court Martial’s decision and dismissed Odunlami’s appeal, a decision that led him to approach the apex court.

Meanwhile, upholding the decisions of the two lower courts yesterday, the Supreme Court, held that the appellant’s defence of provocation could not avail him in view of the glaring facts of the case.

The court equally held that the trial court could not exercise its discretion to give a lower sentence because under Section 105 of the Armed Forces Act, (under which he was charged) “the trial judge has no discretion, but to sentence the appellant to life imprisonment.

“The confirming authority confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment and dismissal from service of the Nigerian Navy. It further stripped the appellant of his rank and directed that he was not entitled to his financial entitlements.

Education / The Academic Series #1: How To Write A Good Project Work by mrinfo(m): 1:09pm On Jun 05, 2013
Writing successfully your final year project work is never an easy task. Projectstoc.com has a few tips for students who are engaged in writing projects in their various schools. See below;

After several years trying to fulfill requirements, pass grades to obtain a degree or higher diploma you would have to write a final year academic project work or dissertation. This proves a very tough task for many final year students depending on the type of project or dissertation topic chosen.

While requirements for writing a good project work might differ based on your school the basics and fundamentals are always the same. Writing a successful project entails adhering to several key ingredients which are examined below

The Sketch

You have a topic to work on but before doing copious amounts of research and writing you have to invest a couple of hours in developing a good Table of Content which will act as a Sketch or Framework for your academic project writing. For some students you might have standard guides used by your school or issued by the project supervisor. For some others it may be your responsibility as the student to produce an acceptable table of content.

This means either way you have to decide the subheadings of your Table of Content. Being clear on what goes into Chapter 1, 2 and 3 makes the actual writing and compilation easier.

Study Extensively and Gather Relevant Materials on Your Topic

To write a good project, you have to do some studying on the topic. After reading up, you have to do some thinking then start putting down your thoughts. You have to present the topic in a new light by bringing out new thoughts and developments. Your project report should present research facts and your own assessment of these facts.

WRITING YOUR PROJECT WORK

The Abstract and Introduction

When you have collated several data and information from various sources you are now in a position to start writing your abstract. A good abstract and introduction to the topic should contain concise summary of your project which includes the purpose, major findings and conclusion. Your purpose of embarking on the research work should be clearly explained along with what objectives the project hopes to achieve.

The Body of Your Work

The main body of your project work will consist of chapters; Literature Review, Research Design/Methodology, Data Collection and Analysis, Major Findings, Conclusion. The actual structure of these chapters can differ from school to school. When you draft your table of content your supervisor is likely to make small changes in the structure before you proceed

If your project work is research based and having to deal with a hypothesis you will have to come up with a good questionnaire, research questions. Your research design could be either quantitative or qualitative or a combination of the two methods.

Conclusion

Readability is very important in university project writing. Let your writing be clear, straight to the point and easily readable. Use short sentences and short paragraphs. Use simple grammar and obey punctuation rules.

Career / Securing An Interview With A 1 Page Proposal by mrinfo(m): 11:07pm On May 19, 2013
It is believed by most jobseekers and career individuals that you must use the CV in all job applications. However this article is about letting you know that you can secure an interview and potentially a job offer using what we call a 1 page proposal (what most people may know as the Cover Letter).
The 1 page proposal comes in handy when embarking on creative unsolicited applications to prospective employers

What Do You Think About a Cover Letter?

To most people the cover letter is just a two sentence letter where they generally inform the prospective employer that they are applying for a particular advertised job and are attaching their CV for perusal by such employer.

However in today’s world the cover letter can be more powerful and creatively used. A cover letter can be used to explain to a potential employer why you are the best hand for a particular job. In fact you can use a very good letter for unsolicited job applications that can land you several interviews

Taking the Initiative: The story of a 22 Year Who Got a Job Offer Through a 1 Page Proposal

A certain young man about graduating from school decided to test some radical ideas he had read on how to get a job and wrote an engaging 1 page letter to the CEO of a prestigious hotel in his locality.
In his letter he introduced himself and requested that he be offered a position in the hotel as Digital Media/Creative Marketing Executive. He went on to write a compelling argument outlining how he would help the hotel utilize the various opportunities provided by the internet to improve the hotel’s bottomline and boost patronage.

He ended the letter with his contact details and promised to take only 5 minutes of the CEO’s time if he will invite him for a formal interview.
The young man after an engaging 30 minutes with the CEO got offered the position (mind you that position never existed before in that company).

The young man had a clear idea of his strengths and which organization he wanted to work for. Then he embarked on his own unique way of getting the attention of the person or persons who where in a position to offer him the job. The 1 page proposal was his strategy.

The 1 Page Proposal: For the Radically different

The 1 page proposal is meant for ambitious jobseekers who are not content with struggling with others for the few jobs available and have already an idea of what kind of job they want to do. They then go after those companies and try to get their argument in front of the persons that matter.

What You Can do
The increasingly popular use of online networking makes it a bit easier today than it was for the young man. Now you can virtually connect or follow top executives of many organizations and companies online, ask politely for their emails and send them a compelling 1 page proposal of what you can and will bring to their company if they give you a chance.

We call it a proposal because unlike normal application letters the purpose of this letter is to sell your abilities reveal to the prospective employer in clear and enticing terms what and how you will be improving their organization if you are hired. You are making your argument to be considered for a particular job and you showcase your ability to excel in that job. It doesn’t matter whether the job is not vacant or the position doesn’t even exist at the time. If you researched the organization well you would maybe have discovered areas where they will benefit from capable, innovative hands. Then you project yourself in your letter as someone they probably need and will benefit from.

And if they think you have enough value to benefit them you will be surely given a chance at a face to face interview.

Career / Just Before You Sign Up For That Employment 10 Important Things To Consider by mrinfo(m): 11:02am On Apr 04, 2013
You may be ecstatic upon seeing your new job contract. At last, you are just one step away from that job you have been aiming for. But before you sign on that dotted line, there are some important things that you have to consider (and possibly ask about) for your own protection and peace of mind. The job contract is a legal document, and there may be several things that you cannot easily decipher yourself. Here are some questions that you should ask your soon-to-be employer prior to finalizing your job agreement.

1. What are the employer’s expectations?

Have your job description clearly spelled out. Make sure that you understand every detail of your work, its nature, workflow, and outputs. What is the main goal of the unit in which you will be assigned? What will be your role in achieving this goal? To whom will you directly report? Will you serve a whole team? If there are statements in your job description that are vague or arbitrary, it’s important to clarify them immediately.

2. Are the benefits guaranteed? Do they change? If so, under what circumstances or whose terms?

It may have already been mentioned in the contract but it pays to ask questions about benefits. Do they come and go? Is there a standard structure that the company uses for this? Are these criteria susceptible to changes in the performance of the company or the market or perhaps influences from top management? If the company provides bonuses, what is the standard procedure for this? Is it performance-based or a company-wide incentive system?

3. What does the company use to conduct performance assessments?

Are performance assessments standardized? Does the company encourage self-evaluation? Does your peer have a say in your performance assessment? Inquire about the company’s materials for appraisal. It is very important that you ask what will be the implications if you get a low score. How often are appraisals conducted and how does the company use the results?

4. How about allowances and reimbursements?

If your work requires you to travel or go on field work, make sure to inquire about allowances and disbursements. What are the company rules and procedures on these matters?

5. How does the company compensate for overtime work?

Ask if your position is allowed for overtime work. If so, ask about the structure of overtime pay. The norm is time-and-a-half for any hours worked over 40 hours. However, companies do have different overtime standards for different types of employees. For instance, Boeing offers its line workers time-and-a-half for overtime worked on the weekdays and double-time for overtime worked on the weekends. However, most of its engineers get less than time-and-a-half for any overtime worked.

O-diuko International is another disguised health and wellness home that will utterly waste your time and try to extort money from you on the premise of partnering with them.

Under the name of O-diuko their new guise is to create careful job descriptions such as warehouse manager, admin officer etc in order to deceive job sites and get their jobs before candidates.

They succeeded for a few days to have their jobs on Ngcareers.com but have now been discovered for what they are after we did background checks and got first hand negative feedback on their tactics from jobseekers. Ngcareers has added O-diuko to their growing list of blacklisted recruiters who cannot publish or advertise jobs.

See the post on the Ngcareers blog warning people about them http://blog.ngcareers.com/908/scam-alert-o-diuko-international-is-a-scam-recruiting-organisation/

Be sure to note their address so that even if they change names (as all those scammers have learnt to do) so you can still detect when you get their invitation.

Hope this helps folks

Career / Top 9 Worst Jobs You Will Not Want To Do Right Now In Nigeria by mrinfo(m): 1:34pm On Mar 18, 2013
This is a post from the blog of Ngcareers.com, one of Nigeria's top job search sites.

Every morning in Nigeria, millions of people wake up and prepare to go to work. Most do not go to work because they love their jobs but because they have no other option. It is no longer news that most people dislike their current jobs.

We came across a funny list of the worst jobs and have modified, it with insights and research, to come up with this list of 9 worst jobs one can have right now in Nigeria

This list doesn’t mean we downgrade or look down on people who do honest, hardwork like the street cleaners etc. This is a list of jobs that most people, if given an option, will pass over. If you are currently in any of these jobs you have our empathy.

9. Bus Conductor

There’s the long working hours. There’s the life threatening occupation of hanging half-outside a speeding bus while keeping an eye out for passengers. There’s the smoke and the people you have to deal with everyday.

But the worst -ultimate worst- part of being a bus conductor is having to shout out the unpronounceable names of bus stop names while mentally calculating how much change you owe the guy in the distracting pink shirt. It easily combines our two worst activities: Shouting unpronounceable bus stop names and mathematics.

That’s why they sweat so much. You would too, if your entire day consisted of shouting such destinations as:

Oshodioshodioshodiosh

OjuelegbaOnipanPangrooo.

And then solving maths while doing all that. It ain’t easy, we assure you

8. PHCN Electrician/Technician

First of all, working for PHCN is already considered not cool by the general populace. There was this guy in Secondary school whose dad worked for The Authorities, and every time the lights went off, we’d all look at him and shake our heads.

So not only is working for PHCN not cool, but being the Electrician/Pole Guy who has to go around cutting people’s power lines just has to suck in the worst way. You’re like the bad news guy the Army sends to tell families they’ve lost someone in battle. Only imaging if it’s an army that’s already generally hated by the populace.

It’s up to you to ride in that van with the ladder, get to someone’s house, climb up the pole, disconnect the power, look down, see the crowd of angry faces waiting for you at the bottom, and decide whether descending the ladder is the best option for your general health and longevity.

7. Traffic Control Officials (eg LASTMA)

Everybody’ in Lagos knows who the LASTMA are. Nobody likes them. There job description consists mostly of stopping you when you desperately need to be somewhere important and having the most dull drawn out conversations. You’ll never hear a conversation like: “Oh, there are the LASTMA. Let’s go hang out with them.”

Or “Hey, let’s get them some drinks shall we?”

Never.

You just know you’re in the wrong line of work if the mere sight of you causes 20,000 people to start saying mean things about your uncle’s father’s friend in the village whom they’ve never even met before.

Plus you are always at the risk of being hit by an angry driver who is hellbent on not getting caught by you.

6. Banker

Okay, some may not quite agree with including this on the list. To everybody who wants to be a banker: Undeceive yourselves. Do yourselves a favor and change your future ambitions as soon as possible. It is a trap. Banking jobs are sort of like babies. You see them all cute and cuddly and you’re like, “Awww, I’d really like to have one of my own.”. Then you decide to have one of you’re own and one day you’re up by 3 a.m changing diapers and you realize that somebody, somewhere, engaged in a bit of false advertising.

Bankers have it the worst. Their working hours are horrible. The Tellers sit behind counters all day counting money (other people’s money for that matter) and dealing with the most obnoxious customers (to be honest, we ourselves have been the obnoxious customer many a time). Then you stay back after work closes and balance accounts. And if you make some small computing error, you can’t leave until you sort that out. And then they’re targets and goals and deadlines and stuff and about 100 million fresh eager graduates out of school just waiting to take your job.

Next time you go into a bank, show a little compassion will you? Those people have it hard. There was this guy behind the counter where I formerly used to bank, and every time I went there, his face was a cry for help. It was like dud, get me out of here.

You do not want to be a banker. Especially not in Lagos. Trust me.

5. Internet Cafe Owner

Remember 2001? Internet Cafe Owners had it good that year, didn’t they? Nobody understood what the internet was really about and we were all easy prey. We’d spend 1 hour waiting for an available system, hoping the guy with 12 minutes remaining wasn’t going to purchase more time. Then you’d pay some ridiculous amount for your one hour ticket. You’d sit there in front of your system for 30 minutes waiting for Yahoo Messenger to finish loading. And at the end of it, you’d look at the owner and say Thank You Sir, For Letting Me Use Your Internet Facilities.

Now if you’re an internet cafe owner, it may be beginning to dawn on you that maybe, just maybe, you’re in the wrong line of business. Maybe it’s those empty seats. Maybe it’s the drastic reduction in cashflow. Maybe it’s just how people don’t really need you anymore. Maybe it’s how people don’t even bother to accuse you of harboring Yahoo guys.

Everybody’s got a laptop now. And those who don’t have smart phones. And guess what, they can access the internet too.

Career / Sure Ways To Identify And Avoid Falling Victim To A Fake Employment Letter by mrinfo(m): 10:06pm On Mar 14, 2013
If you have not come across a fake job offer letter, sooner or later you will. Sometimes it looks so real, many have fallen victims out of ignorance or frustration. This post will help you identify a fake employment/job offer letter and avoid being scammed. A fake employment letter is a letter of job offer sent by scam agents across the internet, they claim to be a representative of a company.

The following are some tips to identify a fake job offer letter:
You don’t remember applying to any job from that company.
This is the first thing you should think through. Did you ever applied to any job from the company? If you didn’t, simply ignore the offer and move on.

Did you attend any job interview?:
Most employers only offer an employment letter to candidates who meet their requirements after interview and accessment process. So if you get a job offer without an interview/prior contact with the company you should verify the legitimacy and authenticity of the offer.

Research the company:
Just like you do before applying for any job you should conduct a research on any company you receive job offer from, find out about the company’s location, mission, services etc. If you don’t find any information or very little information its probably a scam.

You are offered a high salary with little or no experience:
If the job offers extremely high salaries, numerous benefits and flexibility in return for little or no experience it is likely to be a scam. Many individuals receive job offer letters that detail “too good to be true” criteria, which is often the case as these are sent by unscrupulous agents who are scamming unsuspecting job seekers.

Check the email address (Who actually sent it):
Most scammers use email service providers such as hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc to send these fake employment letters. So when you receive such offers check the email, companies usually send offers from email address under their website address Eg an email from shell will look like xyz@shell.com rather than shell@yahoo.com.

Spelling mistakes and grammar errors:
All emails received from the company that is offering you the job should be composed in a professional and formal manner. The email with the offer letter should follow appropriate email etiquette. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors are a red flag that indicate unprofessionalism as well as lack of knowledge. This includes exclamation marks within the offer letter as well as random capitalization of words.

Money/Payment required:
Just like in job search the easiest method of recognizing a fake job offer letter is when you are requested to pay or transfer money. An employer who requires the individual to transfer a certain amount of money into the company’s/personal account is a definite sign of a job scam. If you see this in your job offer letter, it is important to report the job and ensure that others do not fall victim to the same scam.

However it is pernitent to note that some companies may access your CV through job boards or recruitment agencies through which you have applied for job before. In such cases you may have not applied to the company. However, the company in question is expected to let you know how they got across to you and will usually require you attend an interview. Whichever the case, you should always research on any company offering you an employment.

Was there live as Rangers beat Enyimba 1 - Nil.

Observations;

The level of organisation is still poor; getting tickets and gaining entrance to the stadium was still a hellish affair
The digital scoreboards and large TV screen weren't working
The pitch (artificial) was okay
The football was okay in batches
Loved the Rangers' white jersey though I had thought their primary jersey colour was blue. The Aba Elephants wore blue this time.
Turnout was like 35 -40% stadium capacity; encouraging by Nigerian standards
Missed the goal as I and my friends spent over 30 mins struggling to get in.'
Supersports was on ground and did a =n okay job getting the live coverage.
Officiating was fair (given that the TV crew was on board the referee wouldn't mess up

This Ngor Okpala researcher guy seems to have no other job than going around websites submitting arse licking pieces to attract the attention of politicians.

"Free school buses?" I'll be damned

" Which schools were renovated?"

"Have you ever talked to any civil servant in Enugu state anonymously to find out their truw working condition?"

Shallow thinking and Ass licking (sycophancy) are the two major problems holding our people back from demanding accountability form their leaders.
Career / Why Your Boss Doesn't Recognise Your Efforts At Work And What You Should Do by mrinfo(m): 4:39pm On Nov 16, 2012
We all like to get recognized for a job well done—recognition, and sometimes reward, helps us stay motivated and also instills within us a sense of pride and accomplishment. On the other hand, when we put in a lot of effort or complete a job or project and receive little or no recognition for it, the results can be decidedly negative. Sometimes, fault lies with management, who is either too busy or too unconcerned to notice your efforts and hard work. But other times, the fault may actually lie with you—there are several reasons why you may not be receiving the recognition you deserve. Do any of these apply to you?

1. Does Anyone Actually Know What You’re Working On?

If you work in a large office, it may be difficult for management to attribute any specific accomplishments directly to you, as there are likely myriad projects and tasks going on, in addition to the dozens of other action items your boss handles on a daily basis. Even in small offices, your work may go unnoticed if your name isn’t attached to it.

To remedy this, you might consider sending your boss an email to let him know when a particular project has been completed, or even just to let him know that you’ve enjoyed being a part of a particular project. Submitting a weekly or monthly report is also a possibility, showing that you are well organized as well as hard working. The overall objective is to instill more recognition and connection between you and the work you’ve achieved, so that credit will be given where credit is due.

2. Are You a Team Player?

Working well with others is a key attribute that many employers look for. But just because you are working with a team doesn’t mean you can’t still receive proper recognition. By being a good team player, your coworkers will recognize the hard work you’ve done, and will be more inclined to bolster your reputation. But keep in mind, you should also treat others with the same respect—if someone else is deserving of recognition, don’t hesitate to offer your acknowledgement of their performance.

3. Be More Than Just a Name

In large companies, management may not even be aware of all the employees that work beneath them, and oftentimes only see a name on a company roster, with little more to make you stand out from the rest of the department. To remedy this, find ways to get up close and personal with management. You don’t necessarily have to take your boss out to dinner, but introducing yourself at company events, stopping into their office once in a while to say hello, or finding other ways to converse with your boss are all surefire ways to make sure your boss has a face to go with the name.
