Politics / 3 Reason Why Unn Will Not Be Named After Ojukwu by mrinfo(m): 5:10pm On Dec 15, 2011
I do not write this to curry anyone's favour or to incite anyone. I simply want to state the reality on ground on reasons why the late Ikemba will not get his name on the University of Nigeria Nsukka. And to also dispel all notions of conspiracy; I am Igbo and an aide to one of the top state government officials in Enugu. Here are concrete reasons why it may not happen;

1. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka is a great source of pride both to Igbos and non-Igbos and it will take something far mightier than Ojukwu's name to get Non-Igbos, Igbos, the Alumnis of the university, the Governing Council and even a lot of highly placed Igbo sons and daughters to agree for the University to be renamed.

2. There is no other University that goes by that name so it is a symbol of the Country itself. Its history and pedigree means that before it will assume the name of any mortal (dead or alive) another university has to bear the name 'University of Nigeria" as their can be no void. Still in this case it will be a political and tribalistic upheaval and tug-of-war to have another university bear that name.

3. This third reason is a bit difficult to swallow; Ojukwu though he may be known nationally is not enough of a National figure to have the University of Nigeria, Nsukka named after him (no pun intended but that's the gospel truth). Whta National positions and input has he made since after the war? none.

My Verdict: Ojukwu will surely be immortalised by the FG because he is a symbol of the struggle we pass through (tribalism, nepotism, religious differences etc) even as today as a Nation.

Ojukwu will get the New FEDERAL UNIVERSITY in EBONYI STATE named after him.

Education / Engineering Students Corner: Questions, Projects Topics, Materials, Seminars by mrinfo(m): 1:38pm On Dec 15, 2011
Just noticed that there is no niche discussion forum for engineering students to get help, discuss challenges and get materials for projects, thesis, seminars and termpapers etc.

So here's a corner for academic solutions for Engineers.

Business / Re: 6 Reasons Why Youwin May Fail by mrinfo(m): 4:54pm On Dec 14, 2011
You are entitled to your viewpoint. Note that while I do not wish any good idea meant for the good of Nigerians to fail we are merely pointing out challenges that may cause YOUWIN to end up like other programs. Running away from these challenges and looking the other way will not help us.

All the same I wish you goodluck. and don't conclude that everybody needs to apply to YOUWIN initiative.
Business / 6 Reasons Why Youwin May Fail by mrinfo(m): 7:40pm On Dec 13, 2011
On the surface such idea sounds meritable but a lot of factors point to the inevitable failure of the reactionary idea of YOUWIN.

YOUWIN jointly organised by the Ministries of Finance, Communication Technology and Youth development started receiving entries on new and existing business ideas from Nigerian youths not more than 40 years old.

The first round of entries closed on November 25, 2011 and training to commence from December 6th to December 20th. YOUWIn as a three revolving program is planned to consume N50 Billion and create 300,000 jobs.

Here are reasons why we feel YOUWIN may yet end up a collosal failure and waste of public funds that otherwise would have been used to stimulate the SME subsector.

1. Corruption: the hydra-headed enigma that has ensured the country continues to wallow in mediocrity, substandard and non-existent infrastructure and non-completion of vital projects. Programmes far greater than the YOUWIN initiative have been conducted in the past with the monies allocated growing wings meaning that nothing was achieved from those initiatives.

Nothing, in the form of transparency points to the fact that the YOUWIN initiative will be different from its predecessors of failed human empowerment programmes. For instance, corrupt officials handling the initiative may go ahead to connive with applicants to allocate ridiculuos sums of money to certain applicants whose ideas do not merit such amounts.

You cannot overlook such things and say they will not happen. Things worse than that has happened in the past. The apparent lack of organisation and known procedures for managing and disbursing the finances for the initiative bother us and indicates that financial impropreity will be the bane of this initiative. We stand to be corrected and proved wrong on this.

2. Lack of Transparency in Processes: Almost in all aspects of the YOUWIN initiative there is apparent lack of transpareny in the way things are done. From the finances to the selection process very few actually understand how things are done and how money is to be used. The organisers of YOUWIN recently released names of succesful applicants to undergo first round of training. What criteria was used to select these applicants? Knowing how the Nigerian factor works how sure are Nigerians that 70% of these successful applicants are not relatives or cronies of the powers involved with YOUWIN who are there to get allocations of several millions whether their ideas are worth it or not,

Business / Phcn To Stop Existing By December 31st, 2011 - Power Minister by mrinfo(m): 7:38pm On Dec 13, 2011
Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Professor Bart Nnaji had an exhaustive tweet-meet yesterday as we initially wrote on. The tweet-meet which was an engagement between the Minister of Power and his followers on twitter dwelled on the various actions his ministry is taking to stabilise power supply in the country.

The Minister tweeted that by December 31st, 2011 the entity known as the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) will cease to exist and its corporate headquarters shut down. On questions raised by other tweeters on the compensation for PHCN workers and their status post PHCN the Minister stated that the FG has paid N57 Billion to PHCN workers, agreed on 50% salary increase for them and also agreed to convert 11,000 casual staff to full time workers.

In response to a question asked by @DipoDaramola the Minister revealed that Nigeria provides power to Niger, Chad and Benin republic. The Minister also tweeted that, apart from Zambia Nigeria has the lowest electricity tariff in sub-Saharan Africa,

If you are going to submit tenders and official proposals you definitely will need to do it with a limited liability company. Business registration will be insufficient as govts and other corporate bodies do not deal with sole proprietor businesses.
