I've just turned on the ignition without starting the car but the check engine light did not come up. It only comes up when I start the car and then sdisapears after a second or two.
Two months ago, the check light came up after i refuelled and was steady for about two weeks. I took the car for routine mentainance i.e oil, fuel pump and filter change yet the check light refuse to go. I returned it to the mechanic and I don't know what he did to remove the light. I guese he removed it from the fuse box, not so sure though.

I mean the tachometer (rev-counter). I've seen it rise (in the morning) immeadiately you turn on the ignition in other vehicles but the the rev counter on my own never rises the moment you turn on the ignition. It only rises when you step on the gas pedal.

Is this normal?

I drive a 2.3l '99 Accord. From my experience, It's such a great car because I've not had any issue with it so far. Surprisingly, it has a great fuel economy which is far better than my former 2.2l 96 camry.

In modern cars, when you start your car in the morning, the engine Rev (rpm) is automatically pushed to somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000-2500rpm before settling down back to the normal 850-1000rpm idle after a few minutes.

I notice that the rpm never moves when I start the car in the morning. This was brought to my attention last month by a friend. Could this be a serious fault? If so, how do I resolve this.

Most car drivers usually warm(idle) their cars for about 5-15 minutes especially in the morning before driving off.

My car manual says this will help keep the engine warmer and help reduce fuel consumption because warm engine consumes less fuel while cold engine consumes higher fuel. The manual further adviced that it is not compulsory to warm before driving because the engine gets warmer minutes after you drive.

My mechanic also says that driving the car in the morning without warming it affects durability and life span of automobile while another mechanic says it's not true. Can someone pls shed more light on this conflicting opinions.

I totally agree with you Outstrip. Riding Okada is quite a horrendous task especially in our country where everyone have the right of the ways. Whenever I drive on the road, I always drive with a mindset that I am the only sane person on the road yet that doesn't prevent people from running into you either from rear or from back. I see lives waisted in the streets on daily basis and I feel for them. I too will not encourage any of my loved ones to ride okada, not jus because the society see them as miscreants but because of the dangers and life threathnig experiences they face on daily basis. I still believe that despite the fact that the riders are dominated by alcoholics and miscreants, there are still responsible ones among them.

Majority of them including so called responsible looking family men crack under pressure and end up doing alcohol, taba and other despicable vices.

I see Okada as generating more vices and spreading more poverty.

So many artisans who should be contributing meaningfully to the economy and improving their skills (welders, plumbers, painters carpenters) have abandoned their trades and took up okada riding. In the end take home not enough to justify what they spent years learning.

I rode okada after lecture hours in the early 00s to pay my fees in the university. I usually make like 2-3k from 6-12 PM daily. I was able to pay school fees for my younger ones 2ru the proceeds I make then.

I dont think I would have been able to pay my fees if not for the grace of God and the opportunity Okada provided for me then. Presently, I've been working in an oil firm for 3 yrs with good pay. I see your post as a very destrustive criticism which lacks merit. I knew of a guy who bought a piece of land in Abuja from the money he makes in Okada and has even started building his own house there. We dont condemn an entire bunch of bananas as being useless just because of few spoilt ones we see among them.
