Christianity EtcWhy Do We Celebrate Christmas? by mrkunlex(op): 9:48am On Dec 24, 2017
why celebrate Christmas
Question: "Why do we celebrate Christmas?"

Answer: Christians the world over celebrate Christmas in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Various Christmas traditions have been associated with the celebration of Christmas, and different cultures celebrate different ways. The unifying factor is the historical fact that Jesus was born, c. 5 BC. The angel who appeared to the shepherds the night of Jesus’ birth said, “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10–11).

We celebrate Christmas because, as the angel said, the birth of Jesus Christ is “good news.” Good news is meant to be celebrated. In fact, the angel said the news of Jesus’ birth would cause “great joy” and would be “for all the people”—the joyful celebration would be universal. People around the globe would be glad for this occasion.

We celebrate Christmas because, as the angel said, “A Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” The three titles the angel applies to Jesus are important. Jesus is the Savior who delivers us from sin and death (Matthew 1:21). He is the human Messiah (or Christ) who fulfills the Law and the Prophets, showing that God is faithful (see Matthew 5:17). And He is the divine Lord who has entered our world: the Almighty has taken on human flesh; God and man have been fused together in an indivisible, eternal bond; God is truly with us (see Matthew 1:23).

In celebrating Christmas, we celebrate the Savior, because we needed deliverance. We celebrate the Christ in whom all of God’s promises are “Yes” and “Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). We celebrate the Lord who in humility took on “the very nature of a servant” for our sakes (see Philippians 2:6–cool.

We celebrate Christmas with gift-giving because of the “indescribable gift” that God gave to us (2 Corinthians 9:15). We celebrate Christmas by stringing lights because the Light of the world has come to us (John 1:4; Isaiah 9:2). We celebrate Christmas with carols and choirs because they are expressive of joy and follow the examples of Mary and Zacharias and Simeon and the angels, all of whom extoled the Lord in poetry (Luke 1–2). We celebrate Christmas by decorating evergreen trees with stars and angels and tinsel because of the eternal life Jesus brings (John 4:14)—and stars and angels and beauty were all associated with Jesus’ birth.

In celebrating Christmas we celebrate the love and condescension of God. In Texas in 1987, a toddler by the name of Jessica McClure fell into an eight-inch well casing. Down she went, becoming stuck twenty-two feet below ground. Once people discovered that “Baby Jessica” was in the well, they took immediate action. They didn’t tell her to find a way to climb back up, and they didn’t just shout happy thoughts to encourage her. No, they went down to where she was and got her. They did whatever it took. Rescuers worked nonstop for fifty-eight hours to free her.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve fell. Down they went, dragging all humanity with them into the darkness and death of sin. And what did God do? He did not tell us to find our own way out of the mess we were in, and He did more than shout down happy thoughts to us from heaven. No, He came down to where we were and got us. That’s what Christmas is all about—God’s coming down to rescue us, to do whatever it took to deliver us from sure death.

When even one person is in a life-threatening situation, we understand what has to be done. When God looked down at our sinful planet, He saw a whole world of people in mortal danger. We celebrate Christmas because it was at Christmastime that the Rescuer of all mankind came to save us from the hopeless situation we were in. God did not stay in heaven; He came down to where we are.

Romance10 Proven Ways To Win Her Heart And Impress Her Friends by mrkunlex(op): 5:46am On Dec 16, 2017
@ http://seunexloaded.ga
Part of being a good boyfriend involves going out of
your way every once in a while to make life special
for your girl. We’re not talking about standard
relationship expectations here, but rather those acts
which go above and beyond the bare minimum — so,
sorry, but “picking up after yourself”, “listening to her”
or “staying faithful” won't make the cut, even though
they will surely be appreciated in their own right. For
more genuinely adorable moments, here are the top
10 ways to melt her heart:
1) Create Something For Her
Whether it's writing a song, painting a picture, or —
to use a real-life example — cross-stitching a T-Rex for
your dinosaur-mad girlfriend combined with her
favorite quote from Jurassic Park (“clever girl!”),
creating something for your girlfriend demonstrates
thought, effort and sometimes
a sense of humor.
Remember, it's for your partner, not for a gallery or
concert hall, so don't beat yourself up too much about
your creative abilities.
2) Be Kind To Someone She Loves
Sometimes the most thoughtful thing you can do for
your girlfriend is to help someone close to her,
especially if they're going through a hard time or
struggling in some way. Whether it's visiting her
elderly relatives or bringing a casserole to her
bereaved friend, helping out someone she cares
about will show her how big your heart is — which
will surely warm hers.
3) Text Her Something Nice Out Of The Blue
Depending on how long you have been together,
texting her randomly to say you love her is a sure fire
way to brighten her day. If you aren't quite in L-word
territory yet, try simply telling her that you were
thinking about her or send her a genuine, out of the
blue compliment.
4) Cook Something Special For Her
If you live together, cooking is perhaps a mundane
activity you do every second night or so. But few
people can resist the charm of having a special meal
cooked for them. Make an effort to prepare her
favorite meal or a cuisine that featured in her
childhood, or go all out and have a themed meal,
including entrees and dessert. She'll be touched by
the extra effort.
5) Stick Up For Her Publicly
Demonstrate loyalty to your girlfriend by defending
her against anyone attacking or criticizing her. If her
mother is going on about her weight, for example,
say “I think she looks beautiful.” Or if her friends are
laughing at her clumsiness, tell them it's your favorite
thing about her. You don't need to be antagonistic or
overbearing about it, especially if the mood is light;
but letting your girlfriend know you're on her side is a
solid way to keep her on yours, too.
6) Show Her Your Sensitive, Vulnerable Side
Sometimes what women want to see most from
their boyfriends is a sensitive, vulnerable side.
Showing genuine emotion when you see a cute
animal or watch a sad movie will usually be
perceived as more endearing than you think. At the
very least, aim to have deeper, more genuine
conversations with your partner from time to time.
RELATED: How Your Vulnerable Side Can Be The
Way To Find Love
7) Touch Her
This is an easy one, but it's very effective. Whether
it's in public or not will depend on your tolerance
levels for PDA, but touching your girlfriend — holding
her hand, stroking her hair or placing a hand on the
small of her back — is a low-stakes way to reinforce
intimacy and make your girlfriend feel wanted.
cool Pamper Her For An Evening
This one’s particularly good if your girlfriend is going
through a stressful patch. When she gets home from
work, have the bathtub filled for her. Include candles,
bath bombs and lotions if you are feeling extra
indulgent. Once she's had some time to herself, offer
to further
de-stress her with a sensual massage
or even a pedicure (it's not as hard as it looks!)
9) Buy Her A Thoughtful Gift
Maybe you’re the type of guy who genuinely
struggles with showing emotion or revealing your
inner layers. Fine, but one thing every man can do is
buy his girlfriend a thoughtful gift. Money doesn't
need to be a barrier here: the old cliche “it's the
thought that counts” is surprisingly true, so long as
you've demonstrated some creativity and effort.
Bonus points if it's “just because” rather than an
occasion like her birthday or Christmas.
10) Get Her Flowers
Flowers are a well-known symbol of romance and
affection, and there's something irresistible about
receiving a bunch of them in any circumstances; but
having them already arranged in a vase by her side
of the bed when she gets home is a bonus touch. Go
for cheerful, bright varieties like sunflowers or
gerbera daisies if you are worried about the cliche of
red roses.
RELATED: The Top 10 Signs That Yep, You're In
Love
Whether you pull out all the stops and complete this
whole list, or simply select a few, making your
girlfriend’s day from time to time is an important way
to keep the spark in your relationship alive. Your
girlfriend will be enamored with you, she'll brag to all
her friends, and she may even return the favor by
doing something you love sometime, too. It's not
particularly difficult or expensive to do small things
that will warm your girlfriend's heart, so what are
you waiting for?

Culture5 Taboos Across Africa That Modernism Failed To Take Away by mrkunlex(op): 9:42am On Dec 15, 2017
Africa is a predominately a traditional
society that has evolved over the years.
It is interesting that there are still many
taboos which have refused to go away
despite advancement of many countries in
the region.
Some actions that are categorized as taboos
have a social or religious explanation which
restricts people from engaging in them. As a
result, some of these taboos still influence
how many African communities handle certain
issues.
Here are 5 African taboos that people have
refused to let go.
1. Consummating with relatives
Having sex with one’s relative is a taboo
considered as the worst form of sin in most
African communities. As such, people that
were known to have engaged in this act are
usually outcast. The level of modernization in
many communities have not stopped this
practice.
In Africa, it is believed that engaging in such
act attracts many tragedies to the family and
the community. Poverty, epilepsy, stunted
progress and occurrence of epidemics were
cited as consequences.
For some communities, both individuals found
culprits are killed to conciliate the gods or
ancestors.
2. Disrespecting the elderly
One of the core fabrics of African customs is
‘Respect’. Hence, disrespecting an elder is
considered misgivings to the young person.
It also is a common practice that young
people are not allowed to shake hands with
an elderly person, or for opposite sex (either
married or single) to hold hands or display any
romantic display in the presence of an elderly
person.
3. Family and staying In-lawscidental or
intentional
Pot breaking is still c
In many communities in Africa, there are
taboos as regards relating to one’s in-laws or
marriage relatives. instance, it is
unacceptable for a father-in-law to visit while
the husband is not around.
Also, some communities disallowed not
naming a first child after the groom’s father or
mother – based on the sex of the new baby.
4. Pot breaking – Ac
onsidered a great taboo in many parts of
Africa, including Southern Nigeria. This object
made of clay is generally considered the
uterus of women which have to be handled
with care.
Among the Gikuyu tribe (the largest ethnic
group in Kenya) and Igbo tribe of Nigeria, a
special ritual is performed to appease the god
and cleanse a woman who broke a cooking
or water pot.
5 . Food taboo
Food taboo is also one practice that
modernism has failed to take away from
many communities in Africa. For instance,
consumption of some fruits is strongly
discouraged for women during pregnancy.
In some Central African countries, eating of
eggs is forbidden for children.

FoodThe World’s Most Expensive Chicken Costs N900,000 (photos) by mrkunlex(op): 9:27am On Dec 15, 2017
The jet-black Ayam Cemani chicken is a
unique breed that originated from the
island of Java, Indonesia.
Florida-based breeder Paul Bradshaw started
selling them for $2,500 (£1,700) each in 2013.
The all-black chickens, nicknamed the
‘Lamborghini of Poultry’, were his “most
requested bird ever”. The chicken is named
after a village (Cemani) in central Java.
Their beak and tongue, black comb and
wattles; even their meat, bones and organs
appear black. The blood of the Ayam Cemani,
however, is normally coloured.
The birds’ black colour occurs as a result of
excess pigmentation of the tissues, caused by
a genetic condition known as fibromelanosis
and is also characteristic of Chinese Silkies, a
black chicken treasured across China.
Collectors covet this bird because it’s beautiful,
exotic and hard-to-get. The roosters weigh 2–
2.5 kg and the hens from 1.5–2 kg. The hens
lay cream-coloured eggs with a slight pink
tint.
In the past individual birds in the United
States of America have been priced at $2500.

PoliticsPretty Abuja Beauty Queen & Entrepreneur, Blessing Alfa Dies.(photos) by mrkunlex(op): 2:16pm On Dec 14, 2017
Here's a press release from Glees Models on the
death of the beauty queen;
Quote
"It was indeed heartbreaking when we
learned that Her Majesty, Queen Blessing
Achenyo Alfa has made advancement
through the path of glory and perfect rest.
Her charismatic gesture, intelligence and
affectionate concern for humanity and social
reform will never be forgotten.
Unfortunately, several faithful friends have
managed to nurse the loss of their sister,
friend, colleague, role model, mentor and
beauty Queen. The sad news gave birth to
series of heart-felt deliberations and
questions that challenged the love of God for
humanity, “why should such a young lady with
the heart of an Angel be made to leave the
surface of the earth this early, God in his
infinite should have considered her
contributions to mankind, but we cannot
question God”, this was the expression of
her friend, Eniola when she spoke with our
reporters.
In a tribute written to towel the tears of
crying relatives and friends over the loss of
Queen Blessing Alfa, the significance of her
affectionate relationship with friends,
colleagues and family was carefully
highlighted; it says “Oh! Death why would you
feed us with painful memories of our
beloved friend, sister, Beauty Queen and a
motivator who sacrificed everything at her
disposal to make us happy? This is a loss we
cannot recover from for a long time! A
heartbreak that will leave a scar till we all
join you at the great beyond”.
Queen Blessing Alfa played several roles in different
ways to all of us. she was selfless and personally
involved in all that concerns us in sincerity and
humility. In tears, we wished we could turn back the
hands of the clock to where destiny cannot eternally
separate us but it's unfortunate. We were all hopeful
together for the future as we conglomerated in the
same proximity but as man proposes God disposes.
As we met her in different places, events and
circumstances, she left indelible marks in our lives
and times. Tears roll down our cheek with the
thought of her unprecedented demise which has left
us all in shock and disbelief. Late Blessing Achenyo
Alfa as a promising young entrepreneur who believed
in her craft empowered a lot of youths through
seminars to impact on generations.
Indeed, leaving a footprint on the sand of time. She
was celebrated, honoured and embraced by all and
sundry especially as he displayed high level of
simplicity and humility to all who had encounter with
her.
High profile fashion events and pageants had the
colourful impacts of her Ankara bags and shoes on
display as supports for us, Her noble personality on
red carpets arrested attention from distance and her
prayers at our challenging times uplifted our spirits
but her forever absence cripples our strengths at this
moment!
Queen Blessing Alfa your step into the ladder of
beauty queens to make impression has been cut
short, we bleed, we can't express how much pain we
feel but in our hearts, you hold a special place till we
meet to part no more.
In Peace may you find absolute rest, our beloved
friend and human enlarger.

HealthSAD! Generator Fumes Kill Two Friends In Edo State (photos) by mrkunlex(op): 8:23am On Dec 14, 2017
A fashion designer and her friend died after inhaling
toxic fumes from an electricity generator. The bodies
of Muobuikwu Uju Kate and Nkiru Anozie were
discovered in a shop located on Second East Circular
road in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State
on Tuesday morning, December 12.
It was learnt that Muobuikwu, the owner of the shop
had invited Anozie to help her sew clothes. She had
turned on a generator to enable them work
throughout the night in order to deliver the clothes to
her customers in time.
Confirming the incident, her brother, Chukwudi, said
that he had received a call from his sister on Monday
but could not reach her when he called back.
“I got a call from my sister at about 2pm when she
complained that her friend was getting weak. I told
her to give her anointing oil.
Minutes later, I put a call to her mobile phone to
know the situation of things but she did not pick my
call. So, I came here this morning and we invited the
police to force the door open and that was it.” said
Chukwudi
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo,
who confirmed the incident said preliminary
investigations revealed that the women died after
inhaling the toxic fumes from the generator.
“I think they were fashion designers who must
have been working all night to, probably, meet up
with the demands of their customers this
Yuletide,”
said Kokumo.
“Maybe they (deceased) had a lot of things to get
done for their customers and slept where the
generator was on. So, they eventually died of
the fumes of the generator. I think they did not
know. We will embark on public enlightenment to
enlighten members of the public that it is
dangerous to the health.” he added.
