The National Caretaker Committee of the PDP has said it is making progress in implementing the resolutions of the party’s national convention on August 12. Ahmed Makarfi who is he National Chairman of the committee said this in a meeting with PDP stakeholders from Kwara on Tuesday, August 22, in Abuja. He said that the committee had started setting up caretaker committees in states where factional executives were dissolved. “As I speak to you, we already have four states from all sides to the conflict that have jointly signed and made submissions in the overall interest of the party. . “Before I came for this meeting, Lagos came for clarification before they conclude and we have despatched the South-West zonal chairman to go and harmonise the conclusions, and they are happy with the clarification we gave them. “Adamawa will also be making its conclusion and submission to the party tomorrow. “Of all the seven states, we have four already filing submission, one to be completed tomorrow and two others, based on the undertaking of both sides, are ready to make submissions next week,’’ he said. . Makarfi also explained that the committee delayed action in a particular state because a lot of people are are joining the party. In conclusion, he said: “In compliance with the resolution of the convention, we are making big progress because states are complying in respect of the decisions; they are complying and are making submissions.'' . Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of the Indigenous Peoples Of Biafra (IPOB) has set that he set up the Biafra Secret Service so as to provide security for Igbo people. Kanu spoke shortly after his visit to Senator Enyinna Abaribe in Abia on Tuesday, August 22. The Biafra leader claimed the federal government has failed to protect the people which was why he set up a secret service to do so. . He said Fulani herdsmen were killing Igbo people while the police failed to address the issue. He said:“I will not do anything that will bring dishonour to my people. There is no reason for people to be afraid of the internal operation of IPOB. "We want to stop the menace of Fulani herdsmen in our land. In the north, they have the Hisbah police, they have the Sharia police. They even have the supporter of APC police. Here, we have nothing. "We need to protect this very land. We want to protect the Fulani men from rustling. "The police have done nothing. Fulani herdsmen are operating everywhere. President Buhari spoke; he never mentioned the menace of Fulani herdsmen. His interest was Biafra agitation. It doesn’t work for me. I am a Biafran” . Senator Abaribe also spoke saying IPOB has assured that they will continue to remain nonviolent. He said discussions about a better union for Nigeria were necessary so that some people will not continue to feel like second class citizens. He called on Nigerians to continue to work for peace and senate the South Est senate caucus will meet again for ongoing discussions. . Meanwhile, Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari directed that the Service Chiefs to tackle the IPOB’s secret army,Boko Haram and various security threats plaguing the country. According to Vanguard, the Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin, revealed that was the issue discussed at the closed-door meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Service Chiefs. The Rivers state command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is reportedly battling to crack the puzzle concerning how Ifeanyichukwu Dike, the 23-year-old undergraduate accused of ritual murder, escaped from detention. Dike was paraded recently for allegedly killing Victory Chikamso, a neighbour’s daughter and removing vital organs from her body for ritual purposes. . He was caught and handed over to the police whose officers paraded him and made him confess. The Sun reports that Dike’s reported escape is currently causing anger with some women gearing up for what could become a mass protest. The report also stated that some rights activists have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the police to re-arrest the suspect. At the time of this report, the police was yet to officially react to the allegation. .Dike was arrested for the death of little Victory in a case suspected to be ritual murder. . Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state has expressed joy over the safe return of President Muhammadu Buhari after 103 days in London for medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment. . According to him, Nigerians should be happy regardless of party affiliations on the return of the president, Channels reports. The Akwa Ibom government has declared a one-day fast on Sept. 1, as part of activities marking the 30th Anniversary of the creation of the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akwa Ibom was created on Sept. 23, 1987 alongside Katsina State by the erstwhile administration of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. The state-wide fasting was announced on Friday in Uyo by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh. . A statement issued by the commissioner explained that as Akwa Ibom would be celebrating its 30 years of creation, it was needful to seek the face of God and pray for His blessings. Udoh said that the fasting would be led by the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, and the theme would be “Shine, for thy light is come’’ drawn from the Bible (Isaiah 60:1). “This year’s anniversary is epochal, considering that the age of 30 is a very significant time in God’s scheme of things. “The heaven was opened for Jesus at the age of 30 during his baptism and there he also received a divine endowment from the Father,”Udoh said. He noted that it was at the age of 30 that heaven was opened to Ezekiel and he was empowered to see great visions for the house of Israel. The commissioner said that David was made King in Israel at 30, while Joseph also became a Prime Minister in Egypt at the age of 30. He noted David’s reign was glorious, spanning 40 years, while Joseph’s position as prime minister saved the people of Israel from famine. “As a people of a great state named after God, Akwa Ibomites, are hereby called upon to fast and pray on that day, beginning from 6:00 a.m. “The fast will be rounded off at the Government House Banquet Hall grounds from 4:00 p.m.,”Udoh said. Justifying the call for fasting, a lady evangelist in the state, Mrs Glory Akpan, lauded the initiative of the government in seeking God’s face at this period of recession in the country. Akpan told NAN that if Akwa Ibom people will forsake their sins and pray earnestly, God will surely bless the state and the entire nation. . Mr Emmanuel said this during a state-sponsored religious ceremony – the Annual Akwa Ibom State Solemn Assembly – an event meant to usher in peace and unity in the state for the New Year. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has sent a strong message to young Nigerians hoping to take over the mantle of leadership in the 2019 General Elections. According to reports, the former President made his comments in response to a plea from former President of the Nigerian Bar Association Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), that Obasanjo should help the country search for young leaders, ahead of 2019. Obasanjo asked Agbakoba and his peers to seize the Bull by its horn, and run for office. In his earlier memo to the former President, Agbakoba had stated:“Our country is held back by a crop of leadership that has outlived usefulness and effectiveness as a result of old age. “It beggars belief that there is no culture among our political elite, to encourage younger people with new ideas to aspire to positions of leadership, in particular the office of the President.” Responding, Obasanjo reminded Agbakoba the most of the political leaders of his generation were thrust into the limelight by circumstances beyond their control; yet, they still rose to the occasion. He attributed their successes to“great efforts with determination, commitment, broad national outlook”to shoulder their responsibilities. He stated:“The point to ponder is how have the successor generation positioned themselves to lead? “Most members of the younger generation of Nigerians are mostly contented with waiting for dead men’s shoes and are unwilling to beat an alternative path to leadership. “In such a situation, it is to be expected and actually it is human that those with some head start in life will not concede such advantages freely and based on their innate goodness. “Some of these young people whose interest we canvass, have in the recent past been a complete disappointment and failures in their various appointed or elected positions. “So while these failed young men and women should not be a disincentive to support other young people, I don’t think that the older people should be excluded in our leadership recruitment process. “For me if I find young men and women who have shown profound commitment and exemplary integrity in their various chosen careers and professions as well as zeal for the service of our fatherland; I will of course, give such both my support and inspiration, not withstanding their age, circumstances or place of birth. “Late Chief Awolowo and great Zik were younger than you when they threw their hats in the ring.
