That is very true, I went back this morning to buy six 2ft6 doors for 90k, 15k for each. I was going to use aluminum doors for my bathrooms but they were way too expensive. the aluminium doors would have cost me about 170k.

At Cooke road but your contact matters alot. People are still buying over 20k, you dont expect them to tell you the actual price once they sense you are not aware. It is business, cheating is part of business
PropertiesRe: Building A 3 Bedroom Flat In Benin City by Mrmarley(op): 8:49pm On Mar 09, 2018
Really? then I was cheated
I will keep that in mind when I go buy the toilet doors.

UPDATE: The windows have been fixed, the house is taking shape.
Mrmarley:
UPDATE: Plastering started yesterday and that are already done with the inside of the house, I will go and buy the doors tomorrow and the windows will be delivered on Friday. We decided to dig another soakaway at the front of the house for the security post and the visitor's toilet alone.

From rough estimate, I will need to spend about 8m -11m after roofing to achieve what I want
I followed the argument/thread on standards but i chose not to indulge, Price of building materials has increased and I guess some people are still giving estimates based on old prices.
My younger brother has spent about 16m on his 4 bedroom bungalow and we still have not done interlocking, light fittings, electric fence and a few other things.
galaxi:
I guess you are still following this post to see the progress and also learn how the above money is been spent as the house is been build to a good standard.

I am sorry I have not been here for a while, It has been a busy week for me. The parapet is done and the woodwork for roofing has begun. I had to sack the parapet Guy and hand the work to another because he was delaying my work on purpose, just so he can squeeze out more money from me.

Estimated for wood fell at 622k for the wood ( wood + spraying + transport ) and the workmanship was agreed at 200k.
It was the least I could get.

I am undecided on which kind of metro tiles to use for the roofing. I am sure the total square meter will help me decide because I have a budget I do not plan to exceed.

I lost count on how many cements was used but I know it was not more than 80 Bags.
PropertiesRe: Building A 3 Bedroom Flat In Benin City by Mrmarley(op): 8:42pm On Feb 21, 2018
The roof was measured and the total square meter was 496sm. I am told the roof will cost me 1.35 million for classic metro tiles and 1.6 million shingle metro tiles.

Please, can anybody give me a better offer?

5 inches block for the inner partition of the DPC
Mup4life:
Mrmarley did you use the 5inches block in the inner pattition of your dpc also? Or you used 6inches all through for dpc and 5inches for the inner partitions after dpc level?
PropertiesRe: Building A 3 Bedroom Flat In Benin City by Mrmarley(op): 12:31am On Feb 13, 2018
I understand strong walls is really about the cement and sand mix ratio. But I feel solid blocks when mixed right gives that stronger wall. I fee the only advantage of hollow blocks is how straight the walls get. I could be wrong!
abouzaid:
congratulations on your build, however what gives strong walls is more about the cement and sand mix ratio used do the concrete blocks and less of whether they're hollow or solid blocks. less sand would give stronger blocks. ideally, concrete blocks are supposed to even contain small tiny stones which when mixed with sand and cement would yield very strong blocks. unfortunately. this is not the practice in this country.

I have no idea what a sandcrete or a concrete block is, can you explain that please.
I’m using solid blocks all round. I got the impression that they are way stronger than hollow blocks.
Rubbiish:
Is the op making use of sandcrete or concrete block?
Aren't u mixing it up sir
Structurally, 6inches solid is stronger than 6inches hollow...

Well well, I decided to go with the PRECAST parapet. We are moving thing as fast as possible, I think by tomorrow should be done with the block works and the PARAPET guy to can start hanging the pre made cast ( depending on how many casts he has on ground )
I am trying to be meticulous and think way ahead, so I am asking.

1. I need an estimated value for roofing ( wood & aluminium )
2. How much will a 4ft & 3ft Turkish Door cost?

We are at lintel level now, pictures attached!
I am having difficulty deciding what kind of parapet to do.
I am seriously thinking of going for the PRECAST but I am told CONCRETE is stronger.
