Ms Payette was received at the courtyard of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, alongside officials in her entourage. She is scheduled to address journalists after the meeting with President Buhari. Thereafter, she will deliver a lecture at the National Space Research and Development Centre Agency.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, was a guest on Channels TV yesterday where he spoke extensively on why President Buhari deserves a second term in office.

According to Lai Mohammed, the Buhari-led administration has performed well on most of its campaign promises. He added that President Buhari has rebranded governance and has put the country on the path of sustainable growth and development, among other things.

“He has rebranded governance, he has put the country on the path of sustainable growth and development, he is rebuilding infrastructure, implementing what can be described as the most ambitious social investment programme in the history of the nation, he is ensuring that a few fat cats do not loot the national resources, at the same time, he is ensuring that Nigeria is self-sufficient in many areas especially in food production. Above all, he has brought honour and respect back to the country and at the same time, fighting all forms of insecurity. We have put in place certain measures that have made it difficult for those who want to loo our resources to do so” he said



When asked to speak on the reactions that have trailed President Buhari and his certificates,Lai Mohammed said it was “a non-issue and a mere distraction”



“We have moved beyond that. Let me quote what former President Olusegun Obasanjo said in 2015 during this saga of the President’s certificate. Obasanjo said that it is an insult on a man, who rose to the echelon in Nigeria Army, attended the War College in the US and Staff College in Nigeria, for anyone to start asking whether he has a certificate or not. I think I want to rest this case on that because it is a non-issue'' he said

Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) is the presidential candidate of the APC in the 2019 general election and he is in urgent need of the credentials to support his nomination as provided by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

I wish to remind you that in 2015, the said Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) could not present his credentials because the then PDP government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan allegedly prevented the Military from releasing the credentials.

The CDS sir, you should be reminded that the said Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) is the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, and he could have just used his powers to compel the military authority to use a Fighter Jet to fly the credentials to INEC.

You may not need to provide all the credentials however, just release the Primary Six and Secondary School Certificates.

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation, has explained his presence in court on Monday during the commencement of the court trial of Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti State, for alleged corruption.

On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Fayose on an 11-count charge bordering corruption and abuse of office to the tune of N30.8 billion.

Fani-Kayode was there to watch it all happen, and he told SaharaReporters: "What I’m doing here is to support Ayo Fayose and I’m a sound believer in the unity of this country — also for the love of this country.

"I’m a lover of justice and I know it is important that people summon courage just Iike Fayose and to know that loyalty is a virtue. I’m loyal to my friends and country, and Fayose is one because he stood by me in time of trouble and I will in his troubled time. I believe it is important to learn a lesson from this.

On the unveiling of Musiliu Obanikoro, who used to be the in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with Fayose, as one of the 17 witnesses to testify against the Governor, Fani-Kayode said: "I believe it is important to learn lesson from this, that friends sometimes are not real friends.

"Friends that will stand by you in terms of trouble are the real one and I’m a friend to Fayose... to show solidarity with him and to let him understand that he is not alone because I really know what he is passing through."

He accused APC of witch-hunting the opposition, saying: "Every PDP leader has been subjected to some prosecution or the other. They prosecute the enemies and protect their friends and therefore it is important to be with Fayose because our only hope lies in God and the justice of the system.

"I have every confidence in this country and also that it is important that one looks for the taste of real justice. I don’t want people to be convicted on the pages of newspapers. Let’s see how it goes; I stand with the innocence of this man."

The Federal Government is shocked and saddened at the killing of another aid worker by Boko Haram on Monday, despite the actions taken by the government and the widespread appeal to save the young woman.

A statement issued in London on Monday by Segun Adeyemi, Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, described the killing as dastardly, inhuman and ungodly, saying nothing can justify the shedding of the blood of innocent people.

He commiserated with the family of Hauwa Leman, noting that the Federal Government did all within its powers to save her life.

His words: "It is very unfortunate that it has come to this. Before and after the deadline issued by her abductors, the Federal Government did everything any responsible government should do to save the aid worker.

"As we have been doing since these young women were abducted, we kept the line of negotiations open all through. In all the negotiations, we acted in the best interest of the women and the country as a whole.

''We are deeply pained by this killing, just like we were by the recent killing of the first aid worker. However, we will keep the negotiations open and continue to work to free the innocent women who remain in the custody of their abductors."

He thanked all the friendly governments that have continued to work with Nigeria for the safe release of the abducted women, and the clerics across religious lines who have been pleading for their
release.

The Nigerian Optometric Association on Monday warned the general public against the use of urine, breast milk, and acid, among other unconventional stuff, when infected with conjunctivitis, popularly known as ‘apollo.’

President of the association, Dr. Ozy Okonokhua, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.

Okonokhua frowned at such practices, saying it is harmful to the eyes.

He, however, urged the populace to seek help from trained and licensed professional optometrists when infected with any eye problem.

“Apollo is a virus that is self-limiting, which means it cannot be cured with local medicine or self-medication.



“It is a viral infection enhanced by dryness more common during the dry season and the bacteria infection, which is secondary, is best treated with antibiotics,” he said.

Okonokhua further advised the populace to imbibe the habit of regular hand washing to avoid contracting viral and bacterial infection of the eye.

NAN reports that ‘conjunctivitis’ in medical parlance or ‘apollo’ in local parlance is inflammation of the conjunctiva, a thin, filmy membrane that covers the white portion of the eyes.

Conjunctiva, which produces mucous to coat and lubricate the surface of the eye, contains fine blood vessels that can be seen on close inspection.

Similarly, Dr Njong Onugu, Head of Eye care Unit, Public Health Department of Health and Human Service Secretariat, FCTA, identified apollo as a common eye problem that affects people of all age and has no cure.
Onugu said that healthcare workers have high risk of exposure to viruses that could cause viral conjunctivitis.



The eye care specialist, however, urged the public to maintain proper hygiene by washing their hands thoroughly before and after applying eye drops on infected persons.

She identified some causes of irritation of the eye layer to include allergies in the environment which could be due to air pollution, smoke, pollen from trees and grass.

According to her, when the conjunctiva becomes irritated or inflamed, the blood vessels which supply it enlarge and become more prominent, causing the eye to turn red.

“Symptoms include pinkness or redness in the eye, inflamed inner eyelids, blurred vision, sandy or scratchy feeling in the eye, pus, mucous or watery discharge from the eye.

“You must avoid sharing of towels, cosmetics or eye-drops with others that are affected as this can predispose you to it.



“Infected children should be distanced from schools, camps and swimming pools until they are cured,” Onugu advised.

Nollywood lost one of its old actors , Fred Ezimadu popularly called “Big Fred “ on Friday, 5th October 2018. 

According to top Nollywood sources, the actor who hails from Kwale in Delta state has been battling tooth infection for a while before the infection turns fatal over the weekend.

His daughter and a top singer said Big Fredo was rushed to the hospital after the tooth ache became unbearable where he passed on few hours after admission.


Fred was an actor for more than 3 decades and featured in popular series like Candlelight and Winds of Destiny popularly aired on NTA. Also featured in Nollywood movies like Most wanted, Vuga, Warfront and many more. Fred Ezimadu is survived by his wife, two daughters and grand children. May his soul Rest In Peace.

Mr Timothy Obotuke, a budding comedian using the stage name Sirbalo is still thanking God after surviving an horrific attack carried out by his gateman.

Sirbalo in a recent chat with Olushola Ricketts said he only challenged his Togolese gateman to stop tampering with their electricity on the day he was attacked.

Here is how he narrated his ordeal:

“It was just a little misunderstanding, but the gateman didn’t understand pidgin language. He was always tampering with our electricity and I felt I should caution him on that particular day. He had burnt my phone chargers many times. When I moved closer to him and said it was the electricity that would kill him, he thought I said I would kill him. He got angry and stabbed me in the chest.”

“He was asked to go back to Togo. As I speak to you, I am still recovering. For about 30 minutes after I was stabbed, I was still okay. But later, I became weak and I found myself in the hospital when I opened my eyes.

“The only issue we had with him was the habit of tampering with electricity. We lost a computer to this issue. I was even paid for an advert I needed to deliver on that day; so, I was angry when I saw that he was tampering with the electricity.”

The comedian said he is yet to gather the strength required to shoot his comedy skits.

The Nigerian Army has indicated its interest to collaborate with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on training, intelligence, radio communication, logistics support among others.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai, indicated the interest today when he received the visiting High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Nigeria, His Excellency Maj Gen (Retired) Wagar Ahmed Kingravi, at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are waiting for the approver of a new secretary.

President Mohammed Buhari nominated the Chief of Staff to Ibrahim Magu as the New Secretary, EFCC are waiting for the approver of the Senate to appoint Olanipekun Olukoyede as the New Commissions Secretary.

EFCC Awaits New Secretary President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Olanipekun Olukoyede, Chief of Staff to the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu as the Commission's Secretary. The nomination was sent to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation in line with Section 2 of the EFCC Act.

Below is the Results from Ogun APC primaries as announced by the party Chairman, and in the presence of the party NWC are as follows:

Bimbo Ashiru - 898

But the Muhammad Ndabawa-led electoral committee sent to Ogun State by the National Working Committee(NWC) of the All Progressives Congress(APC) on Wednesday evening declared Prince Dapo Abiodun winner of the Direct governorship primary of Ogun APC for the 2019 gubernatorial election.

So we are having two Governorship Candidates from Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun and Akinlade Adekunle.
