The Super Eagles dropped three spots to 35th in the world after they were held to back-to-back draws against a weaker opponent, Sierra Leone in this month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

PoliticsUS Forces, Kill Six, Rescue American Citizen Abducted By Armed Men In Nigeria by mrox4d(op): 4:53pm On Oct 31, 2020
US forces on Saturday rescued an American citizen taken hostage by armed men earlier this week in Niger and held in northern Nigeria, the Pentagon said.
“U.S. forces conducted a hostage rescue operation during the early hours of 31 October in Northern Nigeria to recover an American citizen held hostage by a group of armed men. This American citizen is safe and is now in the care of the U.S. Department of State. No U.S military personnel were injured during the operation,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement.
“We appreciate the support of our international partners in conducting this operation. The United States will continue to protect our people and our interests anywhere in the world.”
The mission, which was several hours long, was conducted by the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6 who were flown to the region by Air Force special operations, a US official with knowledge of the operation told CNN.
The US forces who conducted the mission killed six of the seven captors, the official said. The US believes the captors have no known affiliation with any terror groups operating in the region, and were more likely bandits seeking money.
The State Department confirmed earlier this week that a US citizen had been abducted in Niger.
Local media outlets reported that the US citizen was a male missionary. CNN has not been able to confirm the citizen’s identity.
The governor of the local region where the abduction took place was quoted in various local media and by French media reporting from Niger as saying that six men on motorbikes armed with AK-47s came to the man’s property in the village of Massalata, close to the border with Nigeria.
The governor, Abdourahamane Moussa, told these media outlets that after demanding money, the men took the American citizen with them in the direction of the Nigerian border

PoliticsIf Anyone Assaults You, Defend Yourselves- IG Tells Policemen by mrox4d(op): 7:44pm On Oct 30, 2020
Against the backdrop of attacks on personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and burning of several Police Stations during the Post EndSARS protests, the Inspector General of Police has directed Policemen to henceforth protect themselves if attacked.
“If anyone assaults you, you can protect yourselves. When we talk of human rights, the police are human and we have human rights too. Their lives should also be protected. We are sending the message that legally, we have the right to protect ourselves”.
Adamu made the statement at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command where he addressed the men as part of efforts to boost their morale in the wake of the #ENDSARS protests.
While urging Police personnel not to allow any amount of insults and provocation make them abandon their responsibilities of protecting lives and properties, he said, “If the police is demoralized, criminals will take over the public space and we will not let that happen. No amount of insults and provocation will make us shy away from our responsibilities’.
Emphasizing that Policemen also have a right to life and should protect themselves, the IGP said, “If anybody touches you, If anybody comes to assault you, defend yourself. But can only do this if we are in danger or the situation is dangerous or one that is a threat to their lives.

PoliticsSix Inmates Escape From Detention Centre In Delta by mrox4d(op): 4:35pm On Oct 28, 2020
Six inmates, age ranging from 14-17 years, have escaped from the ministry of women affairs and social development ( Demand Home/Detention Centre) in Sapele, Delta State
The inmates (all male) were said to have escaped from the juvenile remand home along Abeke road in Sapele, at the early hours of the morning.
A Source at the Detention centre, who craved anonymity told Vanguard that the inmates escaped at about 12:30 am early hours of the morning in what seems to be an orchestrated one.
“I think it was a carefully planned by the 6 inmates, if you look inside, you will find out that an iron bar was used to shift the burglar bars to create space for their escape, though the burglar bars were old and rusty before the net was ripped open, I think they chose night so that they could escape without being noticed before dawn.
“it was still unknown how the tool used in their escape was smuggled in, because, with the new security presence in the facility, one would have thought it was impossible to have that kind of tool to plan their escape and if not for the swift intervention of the security men and men of the vigilante, the remaining inmates would have absconded,” the source said.

PoliticsYouths Cleans Up Awka After Protest by mrox4d(op): 7:31pm On Oct 24, 2020
Anambra youths have shown their loyalty and patriotism by cleaning the streets of Awka after the recent protests in some parts of the state, that led to burnt tyres and other debris littering the streets.
The ‘Let’s Clean Awka’ initiative was championed by Tripple Three Media and some progressive youths.
The exercise kicked off from Dr. Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, to House of Assembly junction by Enugu-Onitsha express road , Arroma junction, Government house, Regina Ceali junction, UNIZIK junction and Eke Awka round about.
The youths were seen sweeping and carting away debris especially burnt tires and keeping the debris at strategic places to be evacuated later.
Speaking to the ABS, the leader of the group Mr Ifeanyichukwu Izundu said they decided to clean up the rubbish to return Awka to its normal look and also to help residents of the city to leave the events of the last few days behind and move on with their lives.
Mr Izundu appealed to Governor Willie Obiano to harken to the yearnings of the youths to ensure lasting peace .
He reminded the youths of the need to stop destruction of lives and property, and said that being violent will cause more harm than good. Mr Izundu noted that the properties some people are destroying (government and individually owned) are to the disadvantage of every one.
On her part, another youth Miss Chinelo Umeokafor said that she saw the ‘let's Clean Awka’ promo online and decided to join as according to her, she is an indigene of the state and must contribute her quota towards the good of the state.
She appreciated Govetnor Obiano for the institution of a judicial panel of enquiry to look into the alleged extra judicial killings by the defunct SARS and police brutality saying that it is a right step in the right direction.
She called on the youths to calm down and give government time to work on their demands expressing optimism that Anambra state government will not disappoint the youths.

EducationGovts’ Poor Response Indication Nigerian Youths’ Future Under Threat — ASUU by mrox4d(op): 8:49am On Oct 24, 2020
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said governments’ response over the #EndSARS protests, especially the killings of protesters at Lekki tollgate, showed that the future of Nigerian youths was under threat.
The union, in a statement Friday’s night by its president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, condemned in strongest terms, the manner in which the government handled the Lekki incident which led to the loss of lives and injuries of various degrees.
While noting that the repression and killing of any citizen exercising the constitutionally guaranteed rights to protest was unjustifiable and criminal, the Union urged the Federal government to immediately, employ measures that would fish out the culprits and bring them to justice in order to calm frayed nerves.
He further urged the Federal Government to stop security operatives from senseless killing of armless youth protesters with infiltrators brought under check through active intelligence, adding that based on past betrayal, the youths were right to insist on seeing evidence of how well government has met its five-point demand.
In his words: “From all indications, SARS had become an instrument of oppression; intimidating, extorting and killing innocent youth and citizens on trump charges.
“Those who survived the SARS experience tell gory tales. Mere name-changing of the killer-organisation (SARS) is therefore not enough to erase the deep-rooted impression of betrayal by a security outfit supported with tax-payers’ money.
“It will certainly not end the cruel murders widely perpetrated by SARS now changed to Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT).
“ASUU notes with regrets that Nigeria has not grown beyond the conquest subjugation orientation of colonial rule evident in police and military brutalisation of the civilian populace.
