Salewa97: This is exactly what I’m talking about. RCCG is trying to buy silence with garri when they should be addressing the real issues. It’s like they’re saying, “Forget your problems, enjoy this free food instead.” What a way to distract the masses! Instead of supporting the fight against hardship, they’re just enabling the status quo. It’s disappointing to see religious bodies playing politics like this. If they really cared, they would rally their members to join the protest and demand change rather than just handing out snacks. People need to wake up and see this for what it is: a ploy to keep everyone quiet while the government continues to fail us. If you think these so called pastors have their members in mind, you're a joker. They're after their selfish selves. They frolick with politicians, dey are all padis, na gullible members I dey laff. |

Treadway: already said all this and more in my thread when the power drunk idiot assumed power last year and swiftly started wrecking everything.
https://www.nairaland.com/8017949/how-nigeria-people-govt-got Nigerians are too dull to know what's happening. American currently has an inflation of 2.97% and they're complaining. Nigeria has almost 40% galloping inflation and we're still docile If we know how bad that is, we'll be on d Street morning till night without leaving or call for a revolution. |
Politics › Re: Fuel Rises To ₦1,300/Litre As Depots Run Dry by MrPOTUS: 7:56am On Jul 29, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Yeah I get you, but assuming GEJ Had listened to the ojota people, and returned fuel to N65, back when we were spending N34 per liter as subsidy, and the price remained N65 to date, our subsidy cost would have risen from N34 per liter to N1300 per liter
You can see the effect it would have on our budget, and by extension our debt. Maintaing fuel at N195 was by May last year costing us 99% of our revenue in servicing
Agreed, e go stressful with subsidy removal in totality, but keeping subsidy is another way to economic disaster.
Why I prefer total subsidy removal is that it is the least worst of two worst options. ....it guarantees some more domestic refining, savings of forex, earning more forex, and crucially more jobs and investment. Keeping subsidy just makes things worse as removing it...without those added benefits. Yes, subsidy removal was right, floating d currency at d same time was wrong. You can't float a currency without steering the economy from import oriented to export oriented. D naira flotation is the problem we're facing, not even d subsidy removal, it's just like our economy depends on dollar, same as d refined fuel. Instead of him to put in place means that will boost our productivity, so we'll have enough surplus to export, he arrogantly floated the currency. There's no light at the end of the tunnel, it's darkness upon darkness. D CBN monetary policy cannot help, it'll only destroy businesses, dis inflation is not as a result of excess money in d economy. This is a cost push inflation caused by Mr. Tinubu. Cardoso is just doing try your luck. |

nairalanda1: Because they were being evil politicans who wanted to get into power.
And now they are in power, and all of a sudden protest suggestions are anathema to them
Never ever trust a politcian.
(Some people in occupy Nigeria were genuine, but trust tinubu and buhari to hijack the protests for their own ends. Heck, they played the game . NIgeria as usual always loses). In as much as your assertion towards d removal of subsidy is spot on, Nigerians cannot afford to pay at the market price of 1800. It will worsen d inflation rate, America has a current inflation of around 3% and they're complaining Ours is heading to 40%, if not d fact dat d vast Nigerians, esp the youths are brain dull, they would have hit the street long before August 1st. Do you know what it is for a country to have an inflation of almost 40% ? That's a galloping inflation. Any inflation that has gotten to two digits inflation is hell. Nigerians dey try o, 40% inflation and we are still calm, God forbid And for d record, we all know Tinubu removed subsidy, not because he has d masses in mind, but because he wants enough money for him and his cronies to spend. They're even borrowing to sponsor their lavish lifestyle |

nairalanda1: About the same as ours
Plus, the reason why we have scarcity is that we sell someting that costs 1300 at N700 and below.
Minuium wage does not come into it. Do you even know what you're saying? You're clamouring for 1800 per liter, you people are just wicked from the inside, trying to sound smart Do you know the impact of that price on d already inflated economy? You keep comparing with other countries, do they have d same inflation rate we have, is their currency as useless as ours? Setting price at 1800 is equivalent to mass murder, that's when you'll see d real revolution. |
