The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has since early hours of today, been inundated with calls that operatives of the Commission raided the residence of the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

We need to state for the records that the EFCC did not raid Ambode’s house. It is instructive that his administration, like other former governors is under investigation, since they no longer constitutionally enjoy immunity against prosecution.

The Commission hereby states with high sense of responsibility that the operatives did not raid Ambode’s residence.

Whatever the Commission is presently doing with regards to the investigation is in line with its mandate and the rule of law.

We wish to inform the social media to be circumspect in the reportage of any news with regards to investigation activities of the Commission.

As a tradition, the Commission does not carry out investigation on the pages of the newspapers or through the media. Our operations are always covert until at a time when we file charges in court.

APC‘S GOVT DANCES NAKED – TIMI FRANK, COMMENDS AUDITOR-GENERAL, U.S. REPORT FOR EXPOSING CORRUPTION UNDER BUHARI


Political Activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has said most Nigerians are beginning to see with regret how the current administration is dancing naked by swimming in corruption both nationally and internationally.

Frank, however, commended the government of the United States of America for exposing the fact that no significant progress has been recorded by General Muhammadu Buhari in the area of fiscal transparency so far.

The political activist also commended the office of the Auditor General of the Federation for its latest report indicting the presidency and all the MDAs of massive corruption.

A recent report by the U.S. Department of State had accused the Nigerian government under the APC of lacking transparency while listing the country as one of those that did not meet the minimum requirements for fiscal transparency.

But reacting to the development and other recent corruption allegations against many top officials in the APC’s government, Comrade Frank, through a statement released to newsmen in Abuja, Monday, described the happenings as “the true colour of a corrupt and stinking government.”

Frank, while commending the revelation by the U.S. government, said it is not surprising because every lie has an expiring date, hence the embarrassing report.

He said the APC’s government had been concocting and disseminating lies and utter falsehoods about increased revenue generation to the tune of N5.3 trillion in 2018 alone but “that lie has now expired as can be deduced from a leaked memo signed by the SGF, Abba Kyari, querying the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Babatunde Fowler, about humongous shortfalls and discrepancies in projected revenue.

He described General Buhari’s administration as the most corrupt in the history of governance in Nigeria.

Frank said: “It is becoming clearer to Nigerians and the whole world how lies were packaged and sold to Nigerians by the assembly of corrupt individuals in the ruling party.

“They came in the name of fighting corruption but the majority of their officials are confirmed public treasury looters. In fact, the only criteria to get appointment in APC government is for someone to have record of looting, certificate forgery, thuggery and violence.

“During the last general elections, a leader of this government was caught with three bullion vans in his compound allegedly from the Central Bank of Nigeria but up till now the anti-corruption agencies play blind.

“The Buhari-led administration overlooks corrupt officials and those engaging in acts of corruption within its ranks. They are however swift footed in going after members of the opposition over sometimes imaginary corruption allegations. In a matter of days more of their lies will again expire,” Frank said.

He said that the recent appointment of the Ministers is scandalous, adding that “80 per cent of those who made the list have corruption cases against them in court.

“But General Buhari decided to reward them with political appointments. This shows that the General lacks integrity and moral standing to talk about corruption because he himself is supervising the most corrupt administration in the history of Nigeria.”

Musician, Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno who was spotted with some semi-nude girls dancing on a strippers’ pole along the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge, Lagos, an act some saw as indecent, was never arrested, his manager, Sydorff, has said.

Sydorff said this in an exclusive interview with The PUNCH. He explained that the singer was not arrested, instead, he was ‘invited’ to clear the air.

Sydorff said, “Tekno was never arrested by the police. They requested our presence and they told us to please come and clear the air about the whole issue. When we got to the station it was not as if anyone was arrested.

Everton have bid £30million for Arsenal playmaker Alex Iwobi


The Gunners are yet to respond to Everton's bid and it remains to be seen how Iwobi, a boyhood Arsenal fan, would respond to the offer.


Everton had been hoping to sign Wilfried Zaha but had already seen one bid turned down by Crystal Palace, who are increasingly reluctant to lose their star player with so little time left in the transfer window to secure a replacement.

As such Everton's focus has turned to Iwobi, who enjoyed his most impressive season for Arsenal under Unai Emery last term, providing six goals and nine assists in all competitions.


Arsenal had not previously made Iwobi available for transfer but such a sizeable offer could hand them a major headache as cashing in on the 23-year-old would provide them with the funds to make the major addition at centre-back that Emery and the club hierarchy want.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 botched an attempt by a suspected internet fraudster to flush his phone through a water closet in order to deny access to potentially incriminating data about him.

The 20-year-old suspect, Fisayo Falade, was among the 15 young men arrested in Ibadan on Tuesday for internet-related crimes when the Commission’s operatives conducted a raid on two locations in the ancient city.

Ten of the suspects were arrested at Akatanpa Powerline, while the other five were nabbed at Kushenla area of the Oyo State capital.

Ranging between the ages of 20 and 28 years, the suspects were allegedly hiding behind fake names and identities to perpetrate fraud, dispossessing their unsuspecting victims of their hard-earned money.


Their alleged involvement in internet-related frauds were reported to the Commission by members of their neighbourhood who noticed their expensive ways of life even though they are supposedly undergraduates, and without any known source of income.

Items recovered from them include two exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones and several documents containing false pretences.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored both goals for Leicester City in their 2-2 stalemate with League One side Rotherham United in a pre-season game on Saturday.

After ending his 11-month goal drought against Cambridge United on Tuesday, the forward continued with a brilliant performance at the New York Stadium.

Nigeria forward Henry Onyekuru tied the knot with his spouse in a traditional wedding on Saturday.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has set a time-frame for Wilfred Ndidi’s return to training ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Ndidi was given a longer holiday after his international commitment with Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.


He played in all of the Super Eagles’ games in Egypt and helped them finish third behind runners-up Senegal and champions Algeria.

Prior to the continental tournament, the combative midfielder featured in all of the Foxes’ league matches last season and was ranked as the top tackler in the English top-flight.

After missing their first three friendly outings, Rodgers said the 22-year-old will resume training next week but will miss next Saturday's fixture against Serie A side Atalanta.


"He [Ndidi] will be back towards the Atalanta game. He won’t be involved in that, but he will be training for a few days before that," Rodgers was quoted by Leicestershire Live.

"He will be available for the first game."

Leicester City will open their 2019-20 Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the King Power Stadium on August 11.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on July 22, 2019 secured the conviction of nine internet fraudsters, popularly known as Yahoo Boys before Justice Muawiyah Baba Idris of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Nyanya.

The convicts are: Chinaka Chijioke a serving member of National Youth Corps Service, NYSC; Tunde Azeez, Okeke Dinnie, Iboy Kelly, Ejechi Clarence, Ogagaoghene Favour, Elvis Albert, Ojike Peace and Kelvin Audu.

The internet fraudsters were arraigned and convicted on separate and different count charges that included cheating, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence, which are offences that run contrary to Sections 321, 320(a) and Section 95 and 322 of the Panel Code Law of Northern Nigeria 1990 and punishable under Section 324 of the same Law.

The nine accused persons, pleaded guilty to the different charges against them.

Following their plea, the prosecution counsel informed the court that there was a plea bargain agreement between the prosecution and defence teams, duly signed by both parties and therefore urged the court to convict and sentence the defendants according to the terms of the agreement.

Justice Idris likewise convicted the 9 defendants as charged. He adjourned the case to July 25, 29 and 30 2019 for sentencing and ordered that they be remanded in prison custody.

He argued that they needed more time to conclude investigations on the proof of evidence in which they will rely on to prosecute the case.

A magistrate court sitting in Zuba, Abuja, has directed the Nigerian police to make available all the evidence to be used in the trial of Senator Elisha Abbo on 20 August 2019 for the commencement of the trial.

The presiding magistrate, Abdullahi Ilellah, gave the order on Monday at the resumed hearing of the case.

He said he would not entertain any application for adjournment, urging the prosecution to speed up the investigation and serve the defendant all necessary materials.

The prosecution counsel, James Idachaba, applied for an adjournment of the matter in order to comply with the provision of section 350 (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

He argued that they needed more time to conclude investigations on the proof of evidence in which they will rely on to prosecute the case.

He added that forensic analysis has to be conducted on the CCTV video evidence in line with evidence act. He said that they are being careful not to run foul of the law.

In his own submission the defence counsel, Adegbite Adeniyi noted that they were entitled to see the material evidence before the trial, adding that it will enable them to prepare for their defence.

The matter was adjourned until 20 August to begin the trial.

Abbo was arraigned on July 8 on a two-count charge which bordered on assault of a nursing woman at a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

The offence which is punishable under section 263 and 264 of penal code law.
