Hi everyone!
I recently graduated from the University of Calgary in 2024, where I studied Master’s in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering (Reservoir Characterization). Since graduating, it has honestly been quite challenging getting a good job in my field, especially securing an EIT (Engineer-in-Training) role.

At the moment, I sometimes travel down to Grande Prairie to work in the field as a Well Tester, just to stay active, gain experience, and keep myself going while still applying for better opportunities.
I’ve been applying to different companies for a while now, but it hasn’t been easy, even with my field experience. Because of this, I’m currently considering switching into Cloud Security or DevOps, but I’m not sure if that’s the best move or if I should keep pushing in oil and gas.

Please, I’ll really appreciate any advice, guidance, referrals, or suggestions from anyone who has been in a similar situation or has knowledge of the job market here in Canada.
Most people overlook the basic way to get into tech because of the exceptional situations during covid. I think most companies are still hiring Tech Support roles, the pay might not be the best out there but it's still easier to break in via Tech Support

Hello Guys,
Please I'm in a bit of a quagmire situation here and need your advice.
I just landed Calgary and in Day 5 of my quarantine and plan to hit the ground running as soon as I'm done with quarantine. But I'm trying to apply for my
i) SIN
ii) Bank account
iii) Phone line.

The issue is to get SIN, I need proof of address in my name which can be bank statements/letter or utility bill which I have none, I'm will be staying at a relatives place for the first few weeks/months.

Now the 2nd issue is to open a bank account i need a valid Canadian ID which I also have none until I get my Pr card which the immigration officer has told me can take up to 2 months to come through the mail.

So does this mean I have to wait for my Pr card before I can start applying for these things??

Please guys, those that have come before me, how did you do it?
Walk into any registry and apply for an Alberta ID card. All you need is your landing documents and proof of residence. A lease agreement is fine

With that amount of money you can get to a better university abroad and better countries with better ranking, or top 10 universities in Africa better than CU.
Please name one University in Europe and America that would collect $2,300 as a foreign student. Just name one

Good afternoon everyone, for single moms who have gone through this process or for people who have ideas about this. (1) A friend wants to try this express entry process but she Just gave birth recently and isn’t with the baby’s father( she’s single not married) she wants to know how to go about it? She hasn’t collected her baby’s birth certificate yet and she wants to know if putting her surname on the certificate won’t have any issue with the immigration process concerning/asking about her baby’s dad??
(2) Will they ask for a consent letter from the child dad regardless of who’s surname is on the certificate? The guy isn’t in her life so she doesn’t want to even tell him anything about it, since it’s just her and her baby.
Pls so many responses will be appreciated
Every child has a father. They would ask for letter of consent or something like that

Impending driving too is a crime, you might get honked at or get a ticket too lol... The Highway from Edmonton to Calgary is called Queen Elizabeth highway, its a 110km highway and you are allow to do 10km below or above without getting ticket. Driving here sweet die, I was in Edmonton Just last week from BC, a 1600km Journey both direction, also spend some time in Jasper National park, Canada is indeed BIG
I drove from Calgary to Vancouver Last month. Smooth road but those high mountains scared me sha. Driving beside the water was also thrilling. I no know who swear for us for Nigeria

1)What of for a newly wedded couple without kids that just land without jobs ..maybe they both wants to go back to skul e.g PGD/MSC ... will they be given the Loan n grant...

2) do they pay the money into your bank account as cash or OSAP pays straight to the school emg Seneca,Humber college etc.

Tnx
You can apply for student aid. For Alberta, the school requests that their own part gets paid directly to them, whatever balance is remaining gets paid into your account directly.

It's truly beautiful but always looking deserted. My concern number 1. Can you share me your WhatsApp number so I can see more pictures of my soon-to-be home?
Toronto in my opinion is the only congested city. I don't know much about Vancouver and this is because there are lots of good cities in Canada. From Montreal to Edmonton, to Saks, Ottawa, Winnepeg and so on. It's not like Nigeria where we have Lagos, Abuja and PH. People can also live in smaller towns and earn good money and live well. The fact that the city isn't crowded doesn't mean people are not having the time if their lives. The peace i have in Canada, i didn't have it in Nigeria. Unwanted problems don't just arise and I can plan my life and financies to the T.

Ontario, through osap, give 28k for each session of your course. My wife is getting twice that amount for the two years of her course at Sheridan College. 40k is grant and 16k is loan.
Women tend to get more though. From my friends that I have seen and also type of school. Private or public also matters. Private schools get more funding cause fees are more expensive.

I'm on Alberta Student Aid but studying in Ontario. My classmates on OSAP have way more grant than I do. In fact, Alberta did not give me any grant. The little grant I get is from the federal government.
I school in SAIT Alberta. My fees per semester is 3700. Loan I got was 6000 grant 4,600. They just also approved for my next semester a loan of 7k and grant of 6300...

Hello House,

Here to seek advise and Clarifications please. I will be landing back permanently in Calgary at the end of the month. I currently have over 7 years exp in Risk mgt and audit in banking and oil and gas sectors in Nigeria and its been my desire for a while to move into the IT space, IT AUDIT.

I want to find out if there are short courses available to newcomers in Canada most esp Calgary i can enroll for. I am reading for my CRISC exam at the moment and should write as soon as i land, and then proceed to take the CISA exam. But i feel like the textbook knowledge might not be enough to chart a course in this new field.

But i am looking for a more hands on knowledge and practical training to help kickstart this switch. Will appreciate any feedback
.
If you can, do the Information Security Systems course in SAIT
