A 40-feet tanker fell off a trailer and landed on top of several cars at Barracks bustop inward Trade Fair in Lagos state today March 15. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, the 40 Feet container fell on three stationary vehicles and one tricycle with registration numbers, Toyota Yaris, black colour LSR 247 GP, grey colour Honda CRV LND 80 BS, ash SUZUKI Mini Bus KSF 904 XY and TVS green Tricycle AGL 831 QL The agency said further investigation gathered at the scene of the incident revealed that the accident was caused due to reckless driving of the driver, hence the container lost balance and fell on the vehicles obstructing 80percent of the road. No loss of life nor injuries were recorded at the scene of the incident.

A staggering 21.7 million Nigerians are unemployed according to data released by NBS. Nigeria's unemployment figure has climbed to a staggering 33.3% according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The data revealed that Nigeria’s unemployment rate as of the end of 2020 rose to 33.3% from 27.1% recorded as of Q2 2020, indicating that about 21,764,614 (21.7 million) Nigerians remain unemployed. Underemployment rate however dropped from 28.6% recorded as at the second quarter 2020 to 22.8% in Q4 2020. The report shows that the estimated number of persons in the economically active or working-age population (15 – 64 years of age) during the reference period of the survey, Q4, 2020 was 122,049,400. Haley Link Brinkmeyer, 28, from Indiana, died on January 21 two days after receiving the shot, according to the website "The Covid Blog". Haley Link Brinkmeyer, a 28-year-old physical therapist in the United States has died. The young woman died just two days after receiving a covid vaccine, believed to be either the Pfizer or Moderna variant. Haley Link Brinkmeyer, 28, from Indiana, died on January 21 two days after receiving the shot, according to the website "The Covid Blog". The blog is run by COVID Legal USA and publishes conspiracy theories about Covid-19 and the vaccine. It also helps individuals to fight litigation against companies that are enforcing mandatory vaccination. Brinkmeyer’s death has stunned her family. Posting a tribute on Facebook, her father-in-law James Brinkmeyer said: "Our hearts have been broken upon the passing of Evan’s wife and high school sweetheart Haley Link Brinkmeyer. "No words can express the depths of the loss being felt by Haley and Evan’s families. "We will put our faith in God to give us strength as we try to understand why. Please pray for Haley and Evan and their families. Lastly, if you have kids give them a hug today and tell them you love them." Born on August 4 1992, the young physical therapist worked at North River Health Campus in Indiana, a senior living community after graduating with a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Evansville in 2018. She was married to her high school sweetheart Evan Brinkmeyer for two years, the pair were crowned homecoming king and queen at high school. Her obituary adds: "Haley's smile captured the hearts of all who knew and loved her and we will miss her presence in our lives." Sadly, Haley’s sudden passing is one of several deaths the blog tries to attribute to the vaccine, even though no causal link has been established between her tragic death and her receiving the shot.

A Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, is dead. Ngwuta died in the early hours of Sunday, March 7, after a protracted illness. His health took took a different turn for the worse on Thursday, March 4 and was subsequently taken to the intensive care unit. Spokesperson of the court, Ahuraka Isah, who confirmed his death, said “He has been ill for a while. He was supposed to preside over a matter on Thursday but the illness became severe. He was moved to intensive care unit on Friday. They even conducted COVID-19 test on him but he tested negative. We were already preparing for his valedictory service slated for March 30.” Isah said Ngwuta was absent from the bench between 2016 and 2019 while he faced trial for corruption after the secret police claimed it found hard currencies believed to be proceeds of corruption in his Abuja residence. He was asked to step aside from his duties to face charges of money laundering brought against him at a federal high court in Abuja. Born in 1951 in Amofia-Ukawu, Onicha LGA of Ebonyi state, Ngwuta got his LLB from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1977 and a bachelor of law at the Nigerian Law School in 1978. During his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program between August 1978 and October 1979, he was deployed as the state counsel in charge of the ministry of justice, Otukpo, Benue state. In July 1978, he started his private legal practice in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital. In October 1995, he was appointed a judge of the Abia state high court. Wisdom the albatross, the world's oldest known wild bird, has birthed a chick at the age of 70, the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has announced. According to the USFWS, the Laysan albatross hatched the chick on 1 February in a wildlife refuge in the North Pacific Ocean. Laysan albatrosses usually only live for 12-40 years. But Wisdom was first identified by researchers in 1956. Although Wisdom hatched her chick in February, the birth - which took place in the Midway Atoll national wildlife refuge, in a US minor outlying island in the North Pacific - has only been reported this week. "Wisdom laid her egg sometime during the last few days of November," the USFWS wrote in its statement announcing the new arrival. "Soon after, Wisdom returned to sea to forage and her mate Akeakamai took over incubation duties. Albatross parents share incubation duties and once the chick hatches, share feeding duties." The father of the chick is Wisdom's partner, Akeakamai, who she has been with since 2012, US wildlife officials said. Albatrosses usually mate for life, but it wildlife officials believe Wisdom had other partners in the past that are now dead. The Apex court dismissed Igo Aguma’s appeal on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction. The dismissal of Igo Aguma as the chairman of the caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has been affirmed by the Supreme Court. The leadership tussle had divided the party into two blocs; Amaechi and Senator Magnus Abe, and also created legal impediments that stopped the party from partaking in the last general elections. The apex court upheld the Court of Appeal judgement which overturned the June 10, 2020 judgment of the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, which installed Mr Aguma as the leader of APC in the state and sacked the Ogbobula-led committee which was constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). It dismissed Mr Aguma’s appeal on grounds of lack of jurisdiction. In the lead judgement prepared by Justice Adamu Jauro and read by Ms Augie, the apex court held that the setting up of the Ogbobula-led caretaker committee by the APC’s NWC was an internal affair of the party that the court could not interfere in. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has dismissed reports that there will be an increment in the ex-depot price of petrol in March, 2021. A press release by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Dr. Kennie Obateru, stated that the Corporation was not contemplating any raise in the price of petrol in March in order not to jeopardize ongoing engagements with organized labour and other stakeholders on an acceptable framework that will not expose the ordinary Nigerian to any hardship. Obateru in the statement cautioned petroleum products marketers not to engage in an arbitrary price increase or hoarding of petrol in order not to create artificial scarcity and unnecessary hardship for Nigerians.  ‘They Begged For Water Before Attacking Us’ – Traumatised Oyo Women Raped By Herdsmen Recount Ordeal Sola, an eighteen-year-old victim who was raped on her father’s farm, said she had gone alongside her siblings to the farm to assist her parents as it was harvest season. According to a report by SaharaReporters, some r*pe victims in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, have recounted their ordeals at the hands of herders in the area. Sola, an eighteen-year-old victim who was raped on her father’s farm, said she had gone alongside her siblings to the farm to assist her parents as it was harvest season. “Around 4 pm, when we were completing the day’s work, a Fulani herder came to us to beg for water. We gave him water and immediately left the farm. He didn’t leave but hid somewhere to follow us. I was behind while my siblings were in front,” she told Punch. “Suddenly, somebody hit me with an object at the back. Before I knew what was going on, he pounced on me and ripped off my clothes. My siblings ran away to get help from the village. But before help could come, he had molested me sexually and fled.” She said the criminal was caught but she never got justice. Also speaking, a woman in her mid-fifties identified only as Victoria said a herder sexually abused her. Victoria said hers was a double jeopardy case as her daughter was also a victim six months later. She said, “I went to the farm that day around 3 pm. Later, a Fulani man came to beg me for water and I gave him and faced my work for the day. I was with some children helping on the farm. We were still working when he returned and asked for water again. Then I became suspicious. I told him to leave and before I could walk away, he hit me with a machete.” According to her, the children fled while she was captured and raped, adding that the herder escaped before help could come. Abosede, a mother of five, who was also a victim, said fending for a living had become a Herculean task as she couldn’t go to her farm for fear of being attacked. She said, “The attack on me happened in the afternoon on my cashew farm. I was harvesting cashew that day and we took a break to boil some yam to eat. While we were boiling the yam, a Fulani man came and asked me for water. I didn’t know him, but I gave him water because there are many of them in the area. I didn’t know that it’s their usual method.” For another victim of rape by killer herdsmen, Solape, her survival and escape were attributed to the ‘mercy of God.’ She said, “I went to my farm at Olowoyo area of Agbarigbari that day when the incident occurred. While I was on the farm, the young Fulani man passed greeted me and went his way. Not too long after, he returned and requested water. In my mind, I thought he was too shy to ask for water and that was why he went away earlier. I did know he had an evil intention.” She said before she could turn to give him water, he hit her with a machete; she went on all fours as blood spilt out and he still raped her in that condition. She stated, “After the police waded in, the issue was resolved after pleas from the Fulani community. I haven’t got over it. The experience never left me.” Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said if the rape cases were reported in the divisions there, Igangan and Ayete, investigations would commence on them. Tanko-Yakasai spoke on Friday while reacting to students' abduction at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State. According to him, the fact that the development comes about a week after bandits also abducted some schoolboys in Kagara, Niger State, shows that the government has failed its primary responsibility. He said the All Progressives Congress-led government had failed Nigerians, noting that it cannot continue to lament when tragedy occurs without taking any action to prevent a repeat.
