Why the question?

International businessman, Chief Harry Akande will soon become N4.6billion richer courtesy of a judgement reached by an Appeal Court sitting in Lagos.

According to sources familiar with the case, the Ibadan Billionaire who was formerly based in Chicago, USA was the one who had approached Shoprite to set up in Nigeria did a lot of feasibility studies but was side tracked .

According the the court papers, officials of the South African retail store, Shoprite, had several meetings with Akande’s company, AIC Limited.

They agreed that AIC would be the exclusive operator and manager of its brand across West Africa, except Ghana where the Shoprite brand was already established.

Consequently, there were a series of business meetings between Akande’s representatives and Shoprite Checkers first in South Africa on April 16, 1998, and then at Akande’s office on Victoria Island, Lagos on May 27, 1998.
Shoprite was also said to have flown in representatives who were shown possible locations for retail stores at some locations, including Lekki Roundabout, Trade fair Complex and Lagos National Theatre, Iganmu.
But, when the South African retail giant was ready to commence operations in Nigeria, it allegedly sidelined Akande’s AIC and incorporated another company, Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, and began using the new entity to operate in Nigeria, thereby breaching agreements between them.
The billionaire was upset and this led to a prolonged legal battle with Akande securing a 2018 major victory against the South African retail group for breaching a contract between both parties in Suit No LD/488/2010 —AIC Limited (Claimant) v Shoprite Checkers (PTY) Ltd of South Africa and Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited (Defendants).

However, Shoprite owners appealed the judgment but the billionaire has alai win Round 2.

Though the three-man panel of Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, didn’t agree to Akande’s cross-appeal, demanding 50 percent of $92.3 million as loss of profit he suffered due to the incorporation of Retail Supermarkets Limited, it unanimously affirmed the judgment of a Lagos High Court that awarded $10 million (N4.7 billion) damages against Shoprite.

The battle may now move to the Nigeria’s highest court, the Supreme Court.

The social media has derailed so many and led them into living a life of fake and deceit just to belong. Some people who are really struggling with life do come online trying to make you feel they've arrived by creating false impression that will make one have regrets on his life and ask God if He's still there with him, or has left that his mates are making it while he's not. That life of deceit has never helped anyone but some who seem to have succeeded called theirs repackaging. Sure there's no harm in packaging yourself to look good until you make it but outright faking of it isn't encouraging to not just you but the society at large.

A Ghanian girl by name Yusuf Aisha has received lots of criticisms from people for calling men useless for not having a car at 20 years of age. She made the comment on one group by name Inna Real Life on Facebook and it was shared by many including @Yabaleftonline.

People who saw it were angry with her for making such comment asking where she was at 20 years of age.
The slogan that you have to fake it until you make it doesn't always work in all ramifications. Learn to be real and avoid putting another person's efforts in life in jeopardy simply because you want to belong.

Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has weighed in her own opinion on the trending issue that occurred between former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and a journalist. The former minister has come under serious criticisms for the kind of words he used on the journalist during a press conference he was having in Calabar, Cross River State.

In the video that has gone viral, Fani-Kayode is seen giving the journalist, Eyo Charles a dressing down for asking him a “stupid question”.

The journalist had asked Fani-Kayode who was bankrolling his recent travels around the southern states, but the former minister got irritated by his question, and said he was stupid.

"What type of stupid question is that? Bankrolling who? Do you know who you are talking to? I will not take any question from this man," was Fani-Kayode's angry response.

He also angrily charged the reporter to tell him who can give him money, asking him to go and report himself to his publisher and never to judge him (FFK) by his own standards

In support of Femi Fani-Kayode's action against the Daily-Trust reporter, Dr. Kemi Olunloyo took to twitter to air her own view in a post that blasted Nigerian journalists.

Although many have condemned FFK's outburst, Dr. Kemi Olunloyo believes that such question is unwarranted, and that in her 26 years of Journalism and over 1000 news conferences, no American can ask a politician who is bankrolling him in a news conference.
