The Kumamoto Castle Marathon was held.

Among the several people who applied from our company, three people, the sales department, Yanase (and his wife), and the general affairs department, Ms. Y.
I won the 4km castle town course and played a part.

Three people have been prepared for this day since they were selected
Each has been well trained.

About 12,000 people participated in this year's Kumamoto Castle Marathon and Full Marathon Course
It seems that the 4km course had about 1,500 people.

First things first, go edit the page in question and try to delete the number from the end of the URL. Does it revert back to a number at the end? If not, awesome, you just solved your problem. If so, then you’ll have to do a bit of work.

Check all your pages (drafts, published, etc). Are there any that have the same title? If so, delete them (unless of course, they’re in use!). Now whether or not you deleted any pages, view your trashed pages. Did you know that when trash a page, it doesn’t actually get deleted? It sits in the trash where it keeps its URL, which means creating a new page with the same title results in a URL with a number added onto the end. You have to empty the trash in order to release the URL.

Now that you’ve emptied your trash, go back and edit the page in question. Can you now change the URL without a number being tacked onto the end? If not, double-check your pages again. You might have changed the title of the page, but not the URL.
If you still can’t find the culprit, then it’s probably an issue that needs to be fixed by going into your database and editing a table, which is a post for another day.

I am so behind on sharing some of my work, so today’s show + tell is back from September (yes, you read that right)! You all might remember that I designed Eliza’s blog, Case Study towards the end of 2013.

But that wasn’t the first time I did work for her. Over the summer she reached out about creating a logo for her new photography business and wanted a logo that was minimal, yet bursting with personality.

It’s bright and fun, which fits Eliza’s personality perfectly! My favorite though is the black and white logo. I love how it looks like a stamp!

I’ve been saying I wanted to try snowboarding since I moved here. Every winter I would declare that I would try it, and that winter would pass without me hurling myself down a mountain. This happened every year for the past four years.

It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever done. Everything in me wanted to stop myself from being propelled down a hill sideways. I fell a lot, not because I couldn’t balance (I am a great balancer) but because it felt so unnatural to be snowboarding. Going quickly! Over snow! Outside! With no brakes! Better fall over or risk dying!

I got a private lesson from a snowboarding instructor and I cannot recommend doing that highly enough. I learned how to stop (which resulted in many strained groin muscles) and how to get up (which was awkward because one of my feet was strapped firmly in the board) and how to turn around frontwards (which was never successfully completed without falling over) and how to turn backwards (which was successfully completed once, but then I got excited and fell over).

We spent an hour on a flat, snow-covered piece of land right next to the bunny hill. I fell a lot. I got up even more. That’s what surprised me.

I was never big on trying new things because I didn’t want to fail. This led to me not doing much of anything. The first time I fell I fully expected to think “Bleep this” and head back to the lodge for some grown-up hot chocolate. But I didn’t. I fell pretty immediately and got back up again, undaunted and, most surprising of all, still wanting to try.

Over and over again I fell and every time I kind of braced myself for the “Bleep this, I’m done” thought, but that thought never came. I would fall and get back up to do it again. “Are you ready for a break?” the trainer would ask, and I would answer “Just once more.”

The origin of the “8 glasses” mantra comes from a 1945 study which indicated that humans need 2.5 Liters (roughly 64 ounces) of water per day, however, most who quote this study fail to include the caveat that some of this water can come from the food you eat. Because 8 glasses of water is still more of a minimum requirement, aiming for 8 glasses of water a day is still a good idea. If you’re more thirsty, drink more water. Water is not the magic bullet for weight loss.
Drinking A LOT more water alone is not going to help you lose all the weight you want to lose and keep it off forever. It just won’t happen. That’s not how any of this works. Weight loss requires a calorie deficit. Period.

That said, drinking an adequate amount of water in strategic ways CAN assist us in achieving our weight loss goals in three ways:

Drinking water leaves less room for food in your stomach and will help you feel full more quickly at mealtimes. Have a full glass of water before eating to increase your satiety from the smaller amount of food you’re likely eating.
Water retention can mask fat loss temporarily as you lose weight, making it look like you’re not losing weight, when in fact, you are. Drinking more water can help to encourage your body to release that extra water, allowing your hard work to show up on the scale.
Drinking mostly water reduces the number of calories consumed in your beverages. Though there is water in Dr. Pepper, it is also loaded with sugar and 150 calories per can. Sweet tea has water in it, and if you’ve ever had southern-style sweet tea, you know just how much sugar and calories can be in that! (Hint: So many calories…) If you replace these calorie-laden beverages with water, you’re making huge strides towards reducing the number of calories you consume, which is crucial for weight loss.
Healthy Weight Loss Club’s Water Rule: If you feel thirsty, drink mostly water.
At the molecular level, water is important for fat loss as well. The chemical reaction which frees the stored fat from your cells and converts it to a form that your muscles and cells can use for energy (lipolysis) requires water. Coincidence? I think not!

When you’re drinking that water, imagine that water swooping into your fat cells like Robin Hood and breaking those triglycerides (stored fat) up, and pushing them out the muscles and cells who really need the energy! Sweet sweet Justice!

What this means for our weight loss plan is that water has an important role to play. If we follow the Healthy Weight Loss Club’s Water Rule (If you feel thirsty, drink mostly water), we will be providing our bodies with the water it needs to break down the extra fat in our cells while in a calorie deficit.

1.) I am just plain tired of eggs. I have eaten eggs for breakfast for seven days and look forward to day 31 of this challenge when I can have my beloved Cheerios back. You can keep the peanut butter and flour and dairy; just give me the Cheerios. (I did not expect to be wanting Cheerios. I expected to be pissed about the lack of dairy or doughnuts, not the Cheerios, which are basically the blandest food ever. Oh, Cheerios. I miss you.)
2.) Spices make a ton of difference. It’s fun experimenting with different combinations. Tuesday I made tilapia with Italian seasoning and chili powder and it was heavenly. I don’t know what I used before I was forced to think outside the box. Salt and pepper, maybe? If I take nothing away from the Whole30 challenge it’s this: spices are good and it’s okay to use them. The drawback: there is no dairy to take the edge off of when someone’s gotten a little heavy-handed with the cayenne pepper.
3.) I’m not hungry throughout the day. I fully expected to be starving during this challenge but that has not been the case at all. I’m still eating about the same number of calories as I was before but these calories are packed with vitamins and minerals and stuff instead of just the calcium from a cheese stick. Does that make a difference? I don’t know. Maybe it’s all mental.
4.) There is a difference between grass-finished beef and regular Albertson’s beef. GRASS-FINISHED BEEF KICKS ASS. I can’t taste much of a difference between organic chicken and regular chicken, but the beef? Pfft. It’s so much better.
5.) My jeans are looser in the thigh and butt. So stinking happy about that.
6.) I quit smoking on January 31st, and holy dang I smell awesome. My hair smells great, and our car smells great, and my laundry detergent smells great. My nose is very happy I quit smoking. Probably my lungs are, too. I don’t know if I’ll start again. That seems like a lot of pressure. One day at a time, okay?

whole30, day 6: what we eat
I researched the Whole30 about two weeks before I started it to know exactly what I was getting myself into. The bottom line: lots of vegetables. Some fruit. Some meat, mostly grass-fed and organic. Good fats, like those found in nuts (not peanuts, which are technically legumes. The more you know!) and avocado. But yeah. Vegetables. Mass amounts of green, leafy goodness.
The resources for recipes are plentiful, and while I was a little ambivalent about the lack of grain or legume in anything, the food is great because it’s fresh, well-prepared, and nutritious.
Wednesday, the start of our Whole30 endeavor, I wanted to start with a bang. I made pork shoulder for dinner, which we ate out of bowls like animals. For lunch the next day I packed us a salad with the leftover pork on top of it. Delicious. Dinner that night was fish with veggies; the next night we had a Mexican dish that consisted of ground-up chicken and spices on top of a bed of crisp lettuce, topped with yummy guacamole. We eat better now than we did when we before, probably because we’re limited and thus forced to be creative.
We’ll go grocery shopping once a week. Fresh food tends to not have the shelf life of processed food. We’ve already gone through two dozen eggs, four heads of broccoli, six bags of salad, a head of cauliflower, and two bags of mini carrots. Despite both of us being sick we manage to have dinner together every night and talk about our day. I like that part. There’s usually enough leftovers for lunch the next day, and even though I used to be opposed to leftovers, these aren’t horrible.
There is lots of prep work involved. I’m taking food from close to its main state and trying to coerce dinner out of it, and that’s kind of difficult when there is no packaged mix telling me exactly which methods to employ. I have found many recipes online (thanks, Google) but I’m not used to using recipes for every. single. dinner I prepare. It’s a big adjustment, but hopefully an adjustment that’s worth it.
