According to reports, Senior citizens protesting against the appointment of the 27 year old SeunFakorede as Commissioner for youth and sport.

Recall that Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has nominated Seun Fakorede, a 27-year-old Engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, as one of the three commissioner nominees for screening by the state House of Assembly.

A couple in Niger state was found dead in their home in the early hours of today August 21st.

According to reports, the couple went about their businesses yesterday August 20th and retired to their home later in the evening. Sadly this morning, they were both found dead by their neighbors. The cause of their death is yet unknown. However their remains have been buried according to Islamic rites.

Leader of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat, have returned to Nigeria from India. They arrived aboard an Ethiopian Airlines by exactly 12noon at the Nnamdi Azikwr International Airport.

Recall that El-Zakzaky and his wife left Nigeria on Monday for India following a ruling of the Kaduna State High Court which granted them permission to be treated in the country.

On their arrival at the hospital where treatment was expected to commence, the trip turned controversial.

The IMN accused the Nigerian government of treating their leader like a criminal and denying him access to the doctor with whom they had an arrangement.

Stephanie Frappart would become the first woman to officiate a major men’s match organised by UEFA, when she takes charge of the Liverpool v Chelsea Super Cup clash in Istanbul on Aug. 14. Frapper, 35-year-old refereed the recent Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands in her native France.

She has previously worked in the men’s League 1 in the country and is in the pool of French referees for the coming season.

“I have said on many occasions that the potential for women’s football has no limits. “I am delighted that Stephanie Frappart has been appointed to officiate at this year’s UEFA Super Cup along with assistant referees, Manuela Nicolosi and Michelle O’Neal,’’ said Aleksander Ceferin, President of the European governing body. UEFA Referee Chief, Roberto Rosetti, said Frappart `fully deserves’ the opportunity of officiating the Super Cup.

Suspected armed bandits have killed two soldiers at Dogon Dawa village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Two civilians including a youth leader were also killed by the assailants during a siege that lasted several hours on Thursday.

The One Division of the Nigerian Army has yet to confirm the incident. An indigene of Dogon Dawa, however, told Channels Television on Friday that the bandits attacked the soldiers during an ambush, and later shot at them with a rocket-propelled grenade.

Some others said to have been injured during the attack have been moved to a military hospital in the Kaduna state capital. According to eyewitnesses, the bandits trailed and killed the youth leader and his friend at his farm in Kuduru village.

When the news got to the security operatives deployed to the area, the soldiers who were quickly moved to the village were said to have been ambushed by the suspects.

The police on Tuesday arraigned two men in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a 17 prepaid metres, worth N850,000. The police charged Ogunsola Caleb, 51; and Ovie Clifford, 40; whose addresses were not provided, with two counts of conspiracy and theft.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Gbemileke Agoi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 20, about 9 a.m. at Odogunyan area of Ikorodu. Agoi alleged that the two men stole 17 prepaid meters, property of Hellbon Limited, a contractor with the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.

Magistrate A.R. Onilogbo admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
