Iran possesses a large, battle-hardened military, difficult terrain, and extensive regional networks. According to Kent, Iranian forces could isolate American troops, disrupt their supply routes, cut off air support, and potentially capture U.S. soldiers as hostages. A ground war could quickly turn into a prolonged conflict with devastating consequences for American service members and their families. Critics argue that Trump is risking young American lives to satisfy his political ambitions and personal ego. They fear that the people ordering the invasion will remain safely behind podiums while ordinary soldiers pay the ultimate price. Iran has repeatedly prepared for the possibility of invasion.
