Cactus, Just like you can't just walk out on a job (technically, you can but that's not the point ), I wouldn't expect someone of your calibre to just up and quit for no reason at all.I think we deserve as much as an explanation. Don't you think? If you want to talk about it privately, feel free to YIM me. If not, with a sad and heavy heart, I bid you adieu and good luck with respect to your endeavors. |
nduaj, You mean the form fields are "bleeding through" the flash movie(s)? If yes, Mess with the z-index of the form elements. It is a common problem. If the above doesnt describe what you experiencing, let us know. |
he heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (my laff don dey reach london )h!!Una never finish this one https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-115434.0.html and now una wan start anoda one. In my opinion, the guy who asked for help will end up probably being traumatized and confused by the time this is over. Dude asked for help and instead he has to discern whether or not PHP is used for startups/mature organized, as opposed to the help he needs. Not to mention, if I am not mistaken, this thread was posted some time last year. In the event that it is resurrected, should it be for this? Where is uspry1 when you need her? ![]() he heeeeeeeeeeddddddeeeeeee (my laff don reach london. Now e dey go hamburg )h!! |

lexy, what is the "uncompleted work"? ![]() |
Okay, withdraw the troops. I am not going anywhere. This was a dry joke attempt at cracking an April Fool's joke. ![]() If I stopped coding (at least for now), where would I go? What would I do? I could go insane ![]() |
Yeah, I can see and it looks nice. When I went there yesterday, only the news landing page was new. If you clicked on the inner pages, you got the same old format. I guess they went for evolution, not revolution, slicing the onion, one layer at a time ![]() |

yeah, i understand you now. You have no choice but to print out the results that way. So you will hv to use pagination. It is the only way to cleanly display your results. |
The title of the post says it all. I have done all that can be possibly done. No more challenges. I must move on to something else. Something that doesn't involve me staying up till the wee hours of the morning. Something that will hopefully help me regrow my ever-receding hair line. Consequently, since the programming/webmaster forums are the only boards I can stomach on Nairaland on a regular basis, I am afraid I am going to have to quit Nairaland too. It was nice knowing you all. If you want to YIM me for any reason, please feel free to do so. |
So I am thinking you need to clarify more. From your explanation, you want a 3-column table yet there are only 4 fields to display. So which do you want as part of the 3 columns? In other words you could just print "<tr><td>age</td><td>location</td><td>image</td><td>username</td></tr>" in your DB result set loop (ignore the order here) I say the above because, if u just print out 3, then the 4th, on another row, will have problems unless you account for a colspan of 3. To avoid this,I would just modify the above to read (for example): "<tr><td>age</td><td>location</td><td>image</td></tr><tr><td colspan="3">username</td></tr>" Of course the above are all in pseudo-code so you will have to convert it to PHP. Now, if you have say, 9 photos, and want to print those in a 3-column table format, thatz another issue. off the top of my head, this is how I would do it (again, in pseudo-code): 1) print (echo) "<table>" 2) print "<tr>" 3) print (in a loop) "<td>image</td>" 3) do a mod(ulus) of 3. 3a)If it equals zero (that means 3 images divided by 3 has no remainder which = zero), print "</tr><tr>" 3b) If you have reached the end of the loop, print "</tr>" 4) print "</table>" Again, this is off the top of my head. No testing involved. You could run this on your server to verify, assuming no one else comes up with something better. As for the 2nd part of your question, I would assume that yes, the profile.myspace part is a subdomain but that one simply redirects to the other on the server side. I hope this helps. |

Software testing is indeed something which, at least based on posts I see on Nairaland, is lacking. I am on the web dev side of things, but it is still applicable. One need only to check out a site and see the broken links, forms that don't work, etc. On the software development side, how many of us in here (not a knock, just asking) performing unit tests? Granted, for the most part, programming jobs are a one-man affair with one person doing everything including the kitchen sink, we should still set aside time to do some testing of some sort. Does this mean we won't make mistakes? Nope. We are human and besides, any programmer who tells you they get it right on the first try is a liar. That being said, I firmly believe we can eliminate at least critical defects if we just carved out a section of our time to do some quality testing. If cost is a factor, I suggest time for testing be put into the development plan and its cost built in to our estimates. As always, my 2 cents. |

GeeCee, u silly man ROFLMAO! |
Much better Afam. I have gone in with my eyes open and here are a few pointers: 1) I think those orange headers ("locate a cv", etc) conflict with the form fields. I found it hard to concentrate on the fields cos of their size. If they must be that large, I would probably provide some sort of demarcation between the groupings. I am thinking fieldsets here. 2) When I went back to the site, I noticed that it still had me logged in. Fair enough, but is that the intent of the app? I assume it automatically logs you off after a while. I would expect to be kicked off the system if I closed my browser, unless otherwise coded. 3) I think the results section should be further demarcated from the search fields. I personally prefer a separate results page with menu items at the top to sort based on new criteria, but thatz just me. That's it for me. I hope these help. |
any attacks on the poster will be responded to in kind.Come on man! Remember when I said something a little similar on one of my posts? Remember what you said in response? I think it applies here too ![]() Anyways, I just went through the app. Although I like what it is doing, I think it would be nice to give us the testers a little tutorial as to what to do, where to go and what to look out for (in terms of outcome in response to user action). I clicked around and call me slow, but it took me a while to understand what each link did and what to expect from each menu item. Post a few scenarios if possible so I can muck around some more ![]() |
quad, Well, I still insist that: 1) If all you wanted to do is provide means of contact, you should have just stated those. Come on man! You and I know that if I were to post those URLs, you would probably be the first one to click on a few ![]() 2) As I said above, over 40% or so weren't working. Should I comment on those? Just kidding. I did another random clicking of 4 links and 3 showed up this time I would say in general, they are good. The on pointer would be that you should think of moving to table-less designs and externalizing your CSS and JS files. |
