The Super Eagles handler insists the NFF must keep to his terms for him to remain in charge of the Nigeria national team Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has said he won’t accept any new contract from the Nigeria Football Federation unless they keep to his terms and condition. Addressing newsmen after meeting with the sports minister in Abuja, the ‘big boss’ revealed that there are many violated clauses in the initial contract with the NFF and will guide against such. "If they agree to my condition, why not? ,” Keshi told reporters. "I have started something here in Nigeria which I would love to finish if everything comes good but if not, I will like to move my trade to somewhere else, It is always a good experience when you go out there and do something different. "It is not just South Africa that want me only that they are the ones that have gone to the media to make it public, lots of countries want me, if nothing good comes out I will move my trade elsewhere,” he continued. "No need to bring in sympathy here, I have served this country very well. It is about professionalism now. "I have kids in the university who I have to take care of and sympathy will not take care of my kids and family.” The former Super Eagles captain also revealed and complained bitterly about some of the contractual terms that have been violated by the Nigeria football ruling body. "The definition of a contract is when two parties talk and agree on what is suitable and not suitable. "You cannot just give me an offer and say sign and I will sign, it does not make sense. "Any trip I take to US to see my family is from my pocket, for a year and half I have been paying my assistant coach Valeri salary, which is not supposed to be, Silvanus Okpala not in the team for no reason,” he concluded. http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4093/nigeria/2014/07/05/4937593/keshi-gives-nff-conditions-for-new-contract |

Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, on Thursday, took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan, alleging that his incompetence has affected every part of Nigeria. Musa, who said this during an interview with The PUNCH , added that the fact that over 200 schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram sect from Chibok, Borno State, had not been rescued after 80 days showed gross incompetence on the part of the Federal Government. He described the involvement of foreign security agents in the bid to rescue the schoolgirls and halt Boko Haram insurgency as unpatriotic, saying the Federal Government had the capacity to handle the situation. Musa said, “Jonathan’s incompetence has affected every part of Nigeria. The inability to resolve the issue of the abduction of the schoolgirls from Chibok, Borno State and the continued abduction of women and children is a show of gross incompetence on the part of the Federal Government. “Apart from that, President Goodluck Jonathan and his government went ahead to unpatriotically invite foreigners to solve a problem that the Federal Government has the capacity to solve. And up till today, the foreigners have not been able to identify where the abducted children are. Nothing concrete is coming both from the Federal Government and those invited to help.” When asked if it was proper for Jonathan to seek re-election given the current state of the nation, Musa said the Peoples Democratic Party would suffer defeat in the 2015 presidential election if it nominated the President as its candidate. He said, “Considering the negative state of the nation, that has affected every part of Nigeria, particularly the level of poverty and insecurity. Jonathan should not contest for re-election in 2015. His party will not even nominate him. But if it does, it will face the consequences, because Jonathan will lose the election woefully. “He will not get reasonable votes even in the South-South where he comes from because the South-South is also suffering from the negative state of the nation. South-South people are also suffering from the current level of unemployment, hunger and insecurity. Jonathan’s incompetence has affected every part of Nigeria.” Musa also ruled out the possibility of the All Progressives Congress being behind the Boko Haram insurgency, saying no political party has the capacity to sponsor such sustained terrorist attacks. He said the insurgency was aimed at destabilising Nigeria and noted that only the Federal Government, some rich criminals, and foreign imperialists, who are seeking the disintegration of Nigeria, have the capacity to sponsor it.

A Cape Town man has been arrested for allegedly cutting out the heart of his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend before sitting down to eat it with a knife and fork. Police in Gugulethu were alerted by victim Mbuyiselo Manona’s neighbours who saw the suspect through the window sitting beside the man and “digging from the body and stuffing his face”. The unnamed suspect allegedly stabbed 62-year- old Manona in the chest and neck and bit him on the left side of the face, with police finding him with a piece of heart dripping from his mouth. The attack is believed to have been motivated by jealousy, as Manona had been dating the suspect’s ex Nomonde Tshabalala, who has been left in a state of shock. Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said of the incident, which took place at around 10.30pm on Tuesday: “On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean, eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork.. “[The police] were informed that the victim had been stabbed on the left side of his chest and in his neck, and had a bite mark on the right side of his face.” The neighbour who witnessed the attack told Times Live the man had been hired by Manona to install new windows at his house. “When we got there the man kept muttering ‘I am the king’ and declaring his undying love for the woman,” they said. “He then cut the heart out and ate it before the police came and took him away.” Manona’s sister, Thembela, said her brother had been in a relationship with Soloshe for more than four years and “didn’t deserve to die in the hands of an animal.” |

Some policemen and their families escaped being crushed to death on Monday night following the collapse of a two-story building at the Pedro Police barracks, Somolu in Lagos State. The building, which served as the kitchen, bathroom and toilet extension, collapsed at about 8.30pm. and has rendered no fewer than 27 families homeless. Speaking to Punch, Faith, wife of a sergeant in the barracks, explained that the collapse was not surprising considering the dilapidated state of the barracks, while saying the collapse happened when many people were already in their sitting rooms and bedrooms, else there would have been casualties. “The noise was so loud that the people living outside the police barracks came in to see whether an explosion had taken place. For now, some of us have started packing because we do not know which building is the next. As you can see, the state of the buildings are not different from one another,” she said. Another resident, who identified himself as Charles Averikson, called on the Federal Government to renovate the buildings in the barracks. He said: “We want the government to come to our rescue. This building is the first victim of government’s negligence, we do not know which is the next. You know collapses are common, especially as we enter the rainy season. We thank God the building did not collapse in the morning during our bath.” On Tuesday, officers of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, were at the scene of the incident trying to evaluate the extent of damage. The NEMA spokesperson, South-west Zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, said efforts were on to evacuate the residents.

NIGERIA is suffering greater carnage at the hands of Islamist group, Boko Haram, than it did during a secessionist civil war, yet this has ironically made the country’s break-up less likely, Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has said. Speaking to Reuters at his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Soyinka said the horrors inflicted by the militants had shown Nigerians across the mostly Muslim North and Christian South that sticking together might be the only way to avoid even greater sectarian slaughter. “The bloodshed is now worse than during the 1967-1970 Biafra war when a secessionist attempt by the eastern Igbo people nearly tore Nigeria up into ethnic regions,” he added. “We have never been confronted with butchery on this scale, even during the civil war,” Soyinka said in his front room, surrounding by traditional wooden sculptures of Yoruba deities on Tuesday. “There were atrocities (during Biafra) but we never had such a near predictable level of carnage and this is what is horrifying,” Soyinka added. “I think ironically the break-up is less likely now,” Soyinka said, adding that “for the first time, a sense of belonging is predominating. It’s either we stick together now or we break up, and we know it would be not in a pleasant way.” |
Mahmud Sayyaidi, (aka Mazaje), alleged to be a son of an Emir in Jigawa State (name withheld) was on Wednesday, at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano, caused a bomb scare, when he refused attempt by security operatives to search his car at the main gate of the institution. This is just as the state police spokesman, Magaji Majiya, refuted a claim that the arrested man was a son of an emir, saying “I don’t know whether the arrested man was a son of an emir, all I can say is that a man was arrested at the school premises on the allegation of refusal to have his car searched by the security operatives at the gate of the school It will be recalled that last month, an explosion at the School of Hygiene, Kano, claimed no fewer than eight lives, and since then, every institution in the state, had mapped out strategies against such occurrence in their schools. According to an eyewitness, “the pandemonium was caused around 2:oop.m, when most of the students were in the lecture rooms, when Mahmud drove into the school premises, but was followed by security operatives.” While speaking with the Police Public Relations Officer, Magaji Majiya said, “we were alerted when the incident occurred and we drafted our men to the scene, adding that a man was arrested while his car was also brought to the police headquarter.” The ppro said they did not find anything incriminating inside the car, no bomb nor any explosive item, but stated that the car was in their custody. |

Chelsea have reached an agreement over the signing of the midfielder Marco van Ginkel from Vitesse Arnhem. The 20-year-old, who played for Holland in this year's European Under-21 Championships having made his senior debut last year, has two years remaining on his contract with the Eredivisie club and will reportedly cost £8m. A short statement on Chelsea's website said: "Chelsea Football Club and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel. The player will join Chelsea subject to a medical, agreement of personal terms and legal documentation." Van Ginkel has come up through the ranks at Vitesse, making his senior debut in 2010 and establishing himself as a regular in the starting line- up last season. He would become José Mourinho's second summer signing following the arrival of André Schürrle from Bayer Leverkusen. Mourinho is also considering returning to Norwich City with an improved offer for their England goalkeeper, John Ruddy, having had an initial bid worth up to £5m for the player rejected. |
