Sports / Arsenal Defender Koscielny Retires From France After Criticizing France Manager by myfootballface: 11:31am On Oct 15, 2018
France and Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has retired from international duty after criticising manager Didier Deschamps for his treatment while recovering from injury.

The defender ruptured an Achilles in the Europa League semi-final in May and missed out on France's World Cup-winning campaign in Russia.
Koscielny, 33, said "lots of people disappointed him" during his lay-off.

"It feels like a hit on the back of the head," he said.
"When you are in good form, you have lots of friends. When you are injured... after a certain period of time, you are forgotten about.

"He [Deschamps] called me once for my birthday in September. Otherwise, no. Lots of people disappointed me. Not only the coach."
Koscielny announced last year that he intended to retire from international football after the World Cup and said missing out on the tournament did not change his mind.

But he also said his absence in Russia this summer will remain "a dark step" in his career.
He made 51 appearances for France, making his debut in November 2011, and took part in the European Championships in 2012 and 2016, as well as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"The injury is one thing, the victory of the World Cup is another," Koscielny said. "I think the victory certainly made me much more psychologically hurt than my injury.
"I think I gave the France team what I could. For me, my injury has not changed anything. The Blues are over, after that, I will always be a supporter of the French team but what is certain is that I will not put on the blue jersey.

"I have a new state of mind, there will be the Laurent before and the Laurent after injury. I want to continue to Arsenal, I want to return quickly. I want to fight."
His last appearance for France was in March in a 3-1 friendly victory over Russia.

Nice interplay by Iwobi. Nice run by Jamiu Collins. Shame the crossbar denied him. Why is Rohr deciding to sit back and let them have the midfield? I see he's just using the pace of Kalu and Musa on the counter. I hope it works out in the end. Good end to end game so far though.

Nobody bet on the match bro. It was a shock to everyone including the coaches, players et al

And did you not see how those players were crying on the pitch? I bet no one would cry for a pre-decided match. And also, that match led to Neymar's departure

Lol. So crying is an evidence that the match wasn't fixed? If you collected just 1 million Naira to lose a game, won't you even tear your jersey and roll on the grass if that's what it will take to make the loss believable?

French authorities are investigating potential match-fixing in Paris St-Germain's 6-1 Champions League win over Red Star Belgrade this month.

A Red Star official allegedly placed a bet of almost 5m euros (£4.3m) for the Serbian club to lose by five goals, reported French newspaper L'Equipe.

The French National Finance Prosecutor (PNF) is investigating the claims after being alerted by Uefa.

Both clubs have denied any wrongdoing.
PSG are third in Champions League Group C, just behind Liverpool but level on three points after two games. Red Star (one point) are bottom of the group topped by Napoli (four).

A Red Star statement read: "FC Red Star with the highest anger and abomination rejects the story.
"The article can harm and bring big damage to our club's reputation and that is why we insist that Uefa and investigators in Serbia and in France investigate the whole story and get the truth.
"Today's technologies and other mechanisms are so improved that it is basically impossible to leave this case unsolved.
"Red Star expects to get the truth at short notice and remove any doubt about our involvement in possible wrongdoing."

In a statement, PSG expressed their "amazement and indignation".
They added: "Paris Saint-Germain reiterates its commitment to a fundamental principle of sport, that of the integrity of competitions and therefore refutes any form of practice that could call into question that integrity."

Brazil forward Neymar scored a hat-trick and Edinson Cavani, Angel di Maria and Kylian Mbappe also netted at Parc des Princes in Paris on 3 October.
Former Germany international Marko Marin scored a second-half goal for Red Star.

As for this case I don't know if Ronaldo is guilty or not. But I've noticed that a very large percentage of women coming out with rape accusations are always against rich and famous men. So are they the only ones that rape?

What this should teach everyone is this- if you're someone with dreams and aspirations of becoming big in life, you MUST pay attention to your dealings with women and be extra careful in your exchanges with them. A career it took 10-15 years to build could be brought crashing down with just one compromising photo that you took innocently when you never knew you could become someone of high value and public scrutiny. Love women but use your brain! Know where you're going!

Sports / Ronaldo's Rape Documents Were Fabricated- Lawyer by myfootballface: 8:19am On Oct 11, 2018
Documents concerning rape allegations made against Cristiano Ronaldo have been "completely fabricated", according to the player's lawyer.

Ronaldo, 33, denies assaulting Kathryn Mayorga at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
Mayorga says she was attacked by the Portuguese footballer in a hotel room in the US city that year.

A statement from Ronaldo's lawyer Peter Christiansen reiterated the Juventus forward "vehemently denies all accusations in this civil action".

Ronaldo previously dismissed the claim, first reported in Germany's Der Spiegel, as "fake news" and his representatives said he would take legal action against the weekly magazine.

Christiansen said a "media outlet irresponsibly" based its reports on "stolen and easily manipulated digital documents" of which "significant parts were altered and/or completely fabricated".

Der Spiegel said Mayorga, 34, filed a report with Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident.
In 2010, she reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo involving a $375,000 (£288,000) payment for agreeing never to go public with the allegations.

Christiansen says in a statement his client's position continues to be that "what happened in 2009 in Las Vegas was completely consensual".
The lawyer says Ronaldo does not deny that he agreed to enter into an agreement, but "the reasons that led him to do so are at least to be distorted".
The statement added: "This agreement is by no means a confession of guilt.

"What happened was simply that Cristiano Ronaldo merely followed the advice of his advisors in order to put an end to the outrageous accusations made against him, in order precisely to avoid attempts, such as those we are now witnessing, to destroy a reputation built thanks to hard work, athletic ability and behavioural correction.

"Unfortunately, it is now involved in the type of litigation that is very common in the United States."
Christiansen added: "Although Cristiano Ronaldo is accustomed to media attention, inherent in the fact that he is a famous person, it is absolutely deplorable that the media continue to propagate and stimulate an intentional defamation campaign based on stolen and easily manipulated digital documents.

"Cristiano Ronaldo has mandated his lawyers in the United States and Europe to deal with all legal aspects and expresses full confidence that the truth will prevail, despite the corruption of counter-information, and in which the laws of Nevada will be enforced and respected."

The statement also claims documents allegedly containing statements by Ronaldo are "pure inventions".
He added: "So that there are no doubts: Cristiano Ronaldo vehemently denies all the accusations in this civil action, in consistency with what he has done in the last nine years.
"The documents that allegedly contain statements by Mr Ronaldo and were reproduced in the media are pure inventions.
"By 2015, dozens of entities (including law firms) in different parts of Europe were attacked and their electronic data stolen by a cyber criminal.
"This hacker tried to sell such information, and a media outlet irresponsibly ended up publishing some of the stolen documents, significant parts of which were altered and/or completely fabricated.
"Once again, for the avoidance of doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo's position has always been, and continues to be, that what happened in 2009 in Las Vegas was completely consensual."

Mourinho is a fantastic manager, one of the best and one of the most successful, but until he fixes his personality clashes and ego (which I don't see him doing) he will never enjoy longevity at any club he goes, regardless of whatever success he achieves for them. Ability will take you to the highest places, but attitude will keep you there
Sports / Mourinho Could Be Sacked Next Week If United Lose To Newcastle- Sun by myfootballface: 8:24am On Oct 05, 2018
JOSE MOURINHO’S time as Manchester United manager is almost up after losing the faith of senior boardroom figures.
He could be sacked by next week if United lose Saturday’s home Premier League clash with struggling Newcastle.

All that may save him is the lack of a viable alternative with ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane understood to be distancing himself from the job.

The board were desperate to back Mourinho after what they saw as two good seasons under one of the most successful managers in the game.
He won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season and finished second in the Premier League last season and reached the FA Cup Final.
But the dramatic slide the side has gone into since the start of this season has startled everyone at the club.

United have had their worst start to a campaign since 1989, been knocked out the Carabao Cup by Championship side Derby County and could not beat mid-table La Liga side Valencia at home in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The 3-1 defeat at West Ham last Saturday was the final straw for some.

The off-field problems between Mourinho and the players is also seen to be harming the club’s image.
United legends like Paul Scholes have also turned on Mourinho.
Scholes said Mourinho was embarrassing the club with his public pronouncements and was surprised he was still in a job after the West Ham defeat.

The atmosphere in the ground is a major worry with the team booed off at the final whistle on Tuesday night.

SunSport revealed on Monday how Mourinho is already becoming resigned to his fate after a call from Zidane.
The Frenchman rang him to make it clear he was not plotting behind his back but only that his representatives had asked if he would be interested if the job came up.
Mourinho, however, took that as United had contacted Zidane’s representatives and are already making contingency plans for his departure.

Sports / Ronaldo's Sponsors, Nike & EA, Express 'Deep Concerns' Over Rape Allegations by myfootballface: 5:18am On Oct 05, 2018
Nike has said it is "deeply concerned" by rape allegations against footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

The US sportswear giant - which has a contract worth a reported $1bn (£768m) with Ronaldo - said it would "continue to closely monitor the situation", the Associated Press reports.

EA Sports, which also has a contract with Ronaldo, made similar comments.

Ronaldo, 33, earlier "firmly" denied assaulting Kathryn Mayorga at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.

Ms Mayorga, the 34-year-old former US teacher, was inspired to speak out by the #MeToo movement, her lawyer said.

What did Nike and EA Sports say?

In a statement, Nike said: "We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation."

Meanwhile, EA Sports told the AP: "We have seen the concerning report that details allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo.

"We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA's values."

In a separate development, Juventus - the Italian club Ronaldo joined from Real Madrid for £99.2m in July - came out in defence of its player.

In a tweet, Juventus said: "Cristiano Ronaldo has shown in recent months his great professionalism and dedication, which is appreciated by everyone at Juventus."

How has Ronaldo responded?

The Portuguese international had previously said the allegation, first reported in German magazine Der Spiegel, was "fake news".

On Wednesday, he issued a statement through his Twitter account:

I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.
— Cristiano Ronaldo (@Cristiano) October 3, 2018

My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations.
— Cristiano Ronaldo (@Cristiano) October 3, 2018

Der Spiegel said Ms Mayorga had filed a report with Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident.
But the next year, she reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo involving a $375,000 (£288,000) payment for agreeing never to go public with the allegations.

Her lawyers are now seeking to declare the non-disclosure agreement void.

In a lawsuit, Ms Mayorga says she met Ronaldo at the Rain Nightclub in the Palms Hotel and Casino, and that he raped her in his penthouse suite.

Mr Stovall said his client had suffered from major depression and considered suicide since the alleged assault almost a decade ago.
He said a psychiatrist had diagnosed Ms Mayorga with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Las Vegas police confirmed on Tuesday they had initially investigated a complaint in June 2009, but added they had no suspect in the case.

"At the time the report was taken, the victim did not provide detectives with the location of the incident or suspect description," a statement said.
"As of September 2018, the case has been reopened and our detectives are following up on information being provided," it added.

Ronaldo's lawyers have previously said they will sue Der Spiegel magazine over its reporting.

Sports / Croatian Court Clears Luka Modric Of Perjury Charges by myfootballface: 3:06pm On Oct 03, 2018
A Croatian court has rejected a charge of perjury against Luka Modric, recently named as the best football player in the world.

Croatian prosecutors have accused him of giving false testimony at the trial of an ex-executive of his former club Dinamo Zagreb.
It related to Mr Modric's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in 2008.

A Zagreb criminal court rejected the accusation against Mr Modric, although its ruling can be appealed.

The trial involved Dinamo chief executive Zdravko Mamic and three officials, all sentenced to prison over embezzled funds from player transfers - though Mamic fled the country to Bosnia.
It is thought the embezzlement cost Dinamo Zagreb more than €15m (£13.1m; $16.7m), and the state €1.5m.

That verdict is being appealed.
Croatian media report that the Zagreb municipal criminal court said the perjury charge against Mr Modric was "premature" because the verdict in the corruption trial itself was not yet final.

The corruption charge centres around precisely when he signed an annex to his contract which established the terms for future transfer fees.
Prosecutors claimed Mr Modric falsely said he had signed it in July 2004, but had actually signed it in 2008 when he had already left the club. They alleged the player changed his testimony in favour of Mamic.

Sports / Valencia Apologises For 'liking' Instagram Post Calling For Mourinho To Go by myfootballface: 2:58pm On Oct 03, 2018
Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia has apologised for liking an Instagram post which called for manager Jose Mourinho to be sacked.

The 33-year-old, who reports said had fallen out with Mourinho, returned to the team for Tuesday's
0-0 draw with Valencia in the Champions League.
After the game, he liked a picture of himself which had the caption: "It's time for Mourinho to go."
The Ecuadorian later wrote he liked the post "without reading the text".

"These are not my views and I apologise for this," the full-back said on Twitter. "I am fully supportive of the manager and my team-mates. We are all giving our everything to improve the results."

Mourinho has also said "some [players] care more than others" at United and that "no player is bigger than the club".

They are 10th in the league after their worst start to a season in 29 years.
Midfielder Marouane Fellaini, however, insisted the whole dressing room was behind the manager.
"Everyone is going in the same direction to try to improve and to do better," he added.

For all of you people that rush to like and comment before reading Lol.

Sports / Ronaldo Now Eligible To Face Manchester United In The UCL At Old Trafford by myfootballface: 5:07pm On Sep 27, 2018
Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo will be available to play former club Manchester United next month after Uefa ruled he must serve only a one-match ban for his Champions League red card.

The Portugal captain, 33, was sent off during Juve's 2-0 win over Valencia last week after appearing to pull defender Jeison Murillo's hair.
It was the first Champions League red card of Ronaldo's career.
Juventus play United in Group H at Old Trafford on 23 October.

A three-match suspension would have seen Ronaldo also miss the return fixture in Turin on 7 November.
He will definitely miss Juve's next Champions League game against Swiss club Young Boys on 2 October.
Five-time Champions League winner Ronaldo - who joined Juve from Real Madrid for £99.2m in the summer - tried to latch onto a cross when he was blocked off by a tumbling Murillo.
He gesticulated to Murillo to get up and appeared to pull the defender's hair before turning away in frustration.
Referee Felix Brych consulted his assistant behind the goal before producing a red card, reducing Ronaldo to tears as he left the pitch.

Unlike the Premier League's automatic three-game ban for violent conduct, Uefa's punishments are on a case-by-case basis.
A one-game ban is automatic - with no right of appeal - but Uefa regulation 50.01 for the competition says that "in case of serious offences, the Uefa control, ethics and disciplinary body is entitled to augment this punishment".

Me I'm just here wondering: would this much attention be shown to a lesser known player's red card?
