GboyegaD, what statistics have you got to contradict Amosun's claim. If you say his thesis is weak, what statistics have you shown to contradict him. You can not make a blanket statement. The onus is no you to prove him wrong, whereas the governor revealed an undisputable fact that Ogun state is the industrial hub of Nigeria.

Amosun Disagrees With Federal Ministry Of Finance, NBS, FIRS On VAT Contributions

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described data presented by the Federal Ministry of Finance, National Bureau of Statistics and the Federal Inland Revenue Service as regards the contributions of the state to the Value Added Tax as a misrepresentation.

Amosun said the claim that Lagos State contributes more than Ogun State cannot be true as Ogun State has the highest number of industries in the country.

The governor, who was speaking during a facility tour of an indigenous armoured vehicles manufacturing company, situated in Ode-Remo area of the state, faulted the presentation by the agencies that out of 916 high net worth individuals paying tax to the federal purse, only two are from Ogun State.

“Not less than 27 high net worth individuals in the state pay at least N20 million monthly as tax to the federal purse,” he said, urging the agencies to cross check their data.

He completed every project that he promised in his in his first term. There is no reason to believe he will not do so again during his second term. I was I Ogun state on two occasions recently and I can say the speech of work is great. I do not know where this man called SIA has got the energy that even on Sunday morning in which ordinarily he should be resting, he was on his feet inspecting projects across the state. I wondered what could be the secret of his success and I do not need an answer from anyone other that to conclude it is by his dint of hard work.

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has continued to demonstrate exemplary leadership in governance. Amosun, fondly called SIA by his numerous supporters, is in his second term of office.

He continues the tradition of embarking of laudable infrastructural projects across the gateway state which endear him to the citizenry. In spite of conjectures and innuendos that the governor will not complete the projects as promised, SIA is leaving no stone unturned to deliver the projects to the good people of the state.

This morning, Sunday, August 27, 2017, SIA and his team embarked on inspection of some ongoing bridge, road and drain construction in some areas of the state such as Yakoyo, Lambe junction and Abule Ekun and Agbado/Oke Aro LCDA.

The SIA-led administration in Ogun State has five cardinal programmes embodied in its Mission To Rebuild Ogun State viz Quality and Affordable Education; Quality and Affordable Housing and Urban Renewal; Efficient Healthcare Delivery; Increased Agricultural and Industrial Production; and Infrastructural and Rural Development and Employment Generation.

Work has been in progress in regard to those five cardinal objectives.

Politics / Ogun Apc Denies Excluding Party Members From Ward Congresses by myideas1: 3:57pm On Aug 24, 2017
PARTY CONGRESSES : WE WERE FAIR TO ALL- APC

The Ogun State chapter of All Progressive Congress APC has stated that the
recently conducted ward congresses of the party was duly held with full
compliance with the constitution of the party
A group led by Hon. Kunle Adesina had alleged that the congresses were
improperly conducted. Specifically Adesina alleged that party members who
according to them were not in the good books of the state governor, Sen.Ibikunle
Amosun, were denied participation in the exercise.
However, the party, through a statement by its Publicity Secretary Sola Lawal,
maintained that every bonafide member of the party who was available at the
venues of the congresses across the state participated and voted.
“A Five -man Congress Committee headed by Alhaji Bashir Machina was sent to
Ogun State by the National Organ of the party as was the case in all the 36 States
in the country to conduct the congress. The group did its job and turned in its
report to the national secretariat”.
“Subsequently Congress Appeal Panel also came, spent four days without a single
petition filed with it. If any one now suddenly woke up to cry marginalization it
would be a mere after thought”.
The party maintain that any of its members across the State who claimed not to
be aware of the congress could not and should not lay claim to the membership
of our great party, APC, since mobilization was done through the media
Nationally, a process which Ogun state chapter of the party complemented by
embarking on media announcement throughout the state some days before the
congress.
The party debunked insinuation of factionalisation within its rank stating that
division , if ever there was one ended with the 2015 election. Nigerians will recall
that some months to the 2015 election, a group of some supposedly loyal and
founding members of the party factionalized the party and publicly renounced its
membership of the party and went ahead to join the Social Democratic Party and
worked vigorously against our party APC in all elections – House of Assembly,
House of Reps, Senate, Governorship and the Presidential.
We hope the same set of people and their co travelers are not desperate to
recreate what they did in 2015 – as we move towards 2019
“As democrats, the doors of our party in Ogun State remain wide open to all as
long as they operate within the ambit of the party’s constitution, rules and
regulation.

OBASANJO AND AMOSUN: STRIKING THE BALANCE IN OGUN POLITICS

By Wole Elegbede

Ogun State has produced lots of illustrious sons and daughters who have continued to make their marks on the sands of time. These notable Ogun State citizens have made positive impacts on various spheres of life in Nigeria and the world at large such as politics, economy, military, judiciary, media, engineering, academics and religion, to mention a few.

Amongst the distinguished citizens of the state are former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. Obasanjo, who is often called by the sobriquet OBJ, is renowned for contributing to the end of the civil war in Nigeria in 1970 as a young officer; was a two-time head of state, a statesman and an influential leader in international affairs. Amosun, however, is the governor of Ogun State, a notable accountant, a former senator and a star in the political firmament of Nigeria.

Because of their unquestionable role in the politics of Nigeria, it naturally goes that the they have an important role to play in the politics of their home state. Should they decide not to withhold their role as pathfinders in the politics of the state, their involvement will have a telling effect without any doubt.

As the train of politics move gradually towards the year 2019, when another general election is conducted, the political scenario of Ogun state has drawn more than an ordinary interest not only because of the emerging personalities that have shown interest to vie for political offices but because of the rise in profile of the state in various facets of life.

Under the leadership of Amosun, Ogun is now the toast of local and foreign investors alike. Amosun and his team have been able to do this by creating the right conditions for businesses to thrive. Recently, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council (NIPC) said Ogun state had done well in the parameters used in assessing the 36 states of the federation on the ease of doing business and Investment Certification Programme. Evidence of Ogun's improvement in the ease of doing business was also recently confirmed by another credible source, the British High Commission in Nigeria. At a recent lunch of the Price Water-Coopers (PWC) and the High Commission on United Kingdom in Abeokuta, the Deputy High Commissioner of United Kingdom to Nigeria, Lauren Beaufils, remarked that Ogun state had the potential for becoming the biggest economy in Nigeria considering its business friendly environment aimed at opening the state to international investors. It is not surprising that with the conducive policies, the Manufactural Association of Nigeria (MAN) said the industrial capacity utilisation was positive about the Ogun industrial zone in 2016.

Against the background of this sterling profile, the political stakes in the state are very high. The governorship stake has become more and more the talk of town, especially in regard to which senatorial district will produce the next governor. Ogun state was created 41 years ago. Since then, only two of the three senatorial districts (Ogun Central and Ogun East) have produced the governors of the state leaving out Ogun West.

Watching with eagle eyes from this angle, some analysts believe the role of Obasanjo and Amosun is imperative and could be a game changer in state's political arithmetic. They left no one in doubt about their preference for an indigene of Ogun West to emerge as the governor of the state this time around. There could not have been a more apt opportunity to drum their support for Ogun West than the reception marking the 80th birthday of a political juggernaut in the district, Chief Poju Adeyemi, on Saturday August 12, 2017. Justifying their stance in separate remarks at the event, they posited that the Ogun West senatorial district should produce the next governor in 2019 in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice.

When the grand masters speak, only the Lilliputians will raise eyebrows. Stating their stance publicly is neither a pronouncement nor a decree but you may call it a fait accompli. It definitely will have a telling effect on the political landscape of Ogun state.

Their arrival at this juncture in Ogun politics bellies an understanding between these two powerful citizens. If the understanding continues unhindered, it is the politics of the state and democracy that will gain the most. In the words of Leonardo da Vinci "the noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding". The people of Ogun West have already expressed appreciation for the uncommon gesture.

AMOSUN AND WIFE: POSITIVE IMAGE IS THE BEST PREPARATION FOR SUCCESS

By Wole Elegbede

The amiable governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and wife Mrs. Olufunso Amosun were among the dignitaries at the 65th birthday celebration of Daisy Danjuma at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, at the weekend. Daisy Danjuma is the wife of the elder statesman and former Minister of Defence, Gen. T. Y Danjuma.

I could not but marvel at the photos that emerged from the celebration afterwards. If you've not seen them, here is the opportunity to.

One thing that flashes across my mind is the attention given to the governor and his wife at the event. While it is true that governors in Nigeria attract attention anywhere they are, the attention drawn by Amosun and his wife at this celebration is somehow special; there is more to it. As a saying goes, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". To put it more vividly, the evidence of the superb attention to Amosun and wife should be seen in the positive image they've created for themselves as a couple and public servants over the years. The words of Joyce Brothers are succinct here: "A strong positive self-image is the best preparation for success".

This is very simple: If you are successful in your image and works, people will like to associate with you. Not only is the image of Amosun and wife marvelous in the eyes of the beholder, the works of the couple in Ogun State speak for themselves.

IMPACT OF NEXT YEAR'S AFRICAN DRUMS FESTIVAL WILL BE GREATER, SAYS GOVERNOR AMOSUN

By Wole Elegbede

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described the African Drums Festival held yearly in Abeokuta, the state capital as a cultural revolution which will have greater impact on the continent next year.

Amosun, speaking today during an interview with a YouTube channel- "60 Minutes With Angela"- said more countries outside the shores of Nigeria had indicated interest to participate in the 2018 edition of the festival.

"Don't forget that in the one that we did (in April, 2017) we had people from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and all of that. Now. Next year's own, as we speak, we have gotten several of these Caribbean nations that have shown interest to attend. So, somehow we have started something we can call a cultural revolution that is certainly set to take the space as it were from next year" the governor remarked.

The first episode of the festival tagged the "Nigerian Drums Festival" was held in 2016 and this was followed in 2017 by another edition but this time around tagged "African Drums Festival".

Amosun explained: "The first one was the Nigerian Drums Festival. But this one, when we had the first one in 2016, we realised that our brothers from the continent... indeed so many of the ambassadors were present then. There and then, we were advised that since it has attracted such audience outside the shores of Nigeria, it will only be proper to change the narration and its now going to be a continental affair. And that's how we changed the 2017 edition which was the maiden African Drums Festival".

The 2017 festival attracted several dignitaries such as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Professor of Literature and 1986 Nobel Laureate in Literature, Wole Soyinka, the governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, amongst others.

Ogun civil service: Understanding Amosun’s postures

Against the backdrop of its role in the conception, formulation and execution of programmes, the civil service is undoubtedly the fulcrum of any government. Its central role can not be wished away by any government that is desirous of succeeding in the tasks of governance.

For the civil service to fulfil the sanctity of its role, it is expected to function in accordance to the rule of ethics and professionalism set out for itself. This will enable it to discharge its duties and responsibilities fairly; without fear or favour or recourse to sectional interest. Following its track record, it can be said unmistakably that Ogun State civil service has demonstrated high ethical standards and remains one of the most professional in the country.

In Ogun State, ab initio, the Senator Ibikunle-led administration has always acknowledged the pride of place which the civil service occupies in the scheme of things. When the administration assumed authority in Ogun State a little over six years ago, the idea of building a virile civil service in tandem with the dictates of a modern and digital world had been conceptualised as part of its phiplsophy of “Ogun Standard”- to showcase the ethical quality of the things done by the administration and ensure they are done properly in line with the best international practice and the highest quality standards at reasonable cost. Along the way, the administration has given vent to the realisation of “Ogun Standard” as it relates to every aspect of life in the gateway state, and more specifically, in regard to the civil service. In this light, its policies are geared towards promoting human resource development in the civil service and partnership with the workers in the overall interest of the state.

Being savvy and worker-friendly, the governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun himself has often acknowledged the professionalism of Ogun state civil service each time he was opportune to meet workers. Only recently, on the occasion of the civil service day Public lecture in the state, which the governor personally attended, he mentioned this as much.

More importantly, Senator Amosun added colour to the civil service day celebration in the disclosure that six months arrears of outstanding cooperative deductions of the state civil servants will be paid out of the latest Paris Club refunds released to the state by the federal government. It would be recalled that another tranche of N243 billion Paris Club refund was recently released to the 36 states of the federation and Abuja principality. The federal government had advised the 36 states to use at least 50 per cent of specific funds released to them for the payment of workers’ emoluments. However, Amosun in his wisdom decided to apportion N4.5 billion of the N5.7 billion funds (about 80 per cent) to cater for the arrears of outstanding cooperative deductions of the state civil servants and local government workers while the sum of N1.1 billion (about 20 per per cent) was channelled to other expenses. He gave further assurances that he would pay the outstanding Leave Allowance of about N1 billion by September, this year.

In December 2016, the state government disbursed total amount of N12.5 billion to offset the pending gratuities, arrears of cooperative deductions and severance allowance of former political office holders. Before then, the sum of N5.5 billion had been employed for the payment of arrears of cooperative deductions of the workers in the state.

The governor has continued to live up to the expectation of making such payments despite the huge monthly wage bill in the region of N9 billion per month consisting of state and local government salaries and allowances as well as subventions to the state’s tertiary institutions. The most striking aspect of the deal is that the huge monthly bill is being paid as at when due, unlike in several other states in the federation where  monthly salaries are owed workers. For the records, it would be recollected that the current government in the state inherited a monthly bill of N2.9 billion from the previous regime which has galloped by 300 per cent to N9 billion due to its progressive policies such as the implementation of the minimum wage (pro rata across the board), the conduct of various promotion exercises and employment of more than 10,000 workers into the civil service.

Amosun’s postures have been geared towards ensuring that the administration does not fail in its responsibilities to the workers and the state at large despite the difficulties of the downturn in Nigeria’s economy which started with the dip in oil prices from the second half of 2014 and has only recently shown signs of recovery. Pronto the governor put measures in place to manage the economy of the state more prudently  so that the debilitating effects of the dwindling oil receipts would be minimal on the economy of Ogun State.

At the moment, the ship of the state has been stirred away from troubled waters experienced by previous regimes and now in good shape. Amosun has been able to do this by blocking leakages and at the same time expanding the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base of the state. Figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics show that Ogun State garnered about N72.9 billion as IGR in 2016, the third highest among the 36 states. The IGR plan is tailored to make Ogun State less dependent on the monthly federal allocation by exploiting previously untapped areas of development in the economy.

As Amosun is being given awards from various quarters as the best performing governor and commended for sterling management of economic resources, the workers of the state should also be applauded because it takes two sides to tango. Amosun’s feats while in power could not have been possible without the active cooperation and collaboration of the civil service. Those awards are not surprising because under Amosun, the administration has pursued with vigor its grand objective tagged “Mission to Rebuild Ogun State”, which contains five cardinal programmes thus: Affordable Quality Education; Efficient Health Care Delivery; Increased Agricultural Production and Industralisation; Affordable Housing and Urban Renewal; and Rural and Infrastructural Development and Employment Generation.

The administration should intensify the partnership with workers through cross fertilisation of ideas especially between the state government and the leadership of the labour unions.  The workers, on their part, should eschew indiscipline and the temptation of being used by uncharitable elements to cause confusion and disaffection in government. It may be imperative for both sides to organise joint seminars dealing on the theme of understanding between them and de-politicisation of the civil service.

Today, Ogun State civil service can beat the chest as one of the best civil service in the federation and much of the credit will go to the partnership that is being demonstrated under the leadership of Amosun.
