The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State, on Monday said it would not participate in the local government election fixed for April 23 by the State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC). The decision of the party was disclosed by the Chairman of the party in the state, Mr Duerinimi Isaacs Kekemeke at Leaders’ Consultative meeting saying that the party’s decision was due to lack of faith in the leadership of the state electoral body. ODIEC Chairman, Prof. Olugbenga Ige had last week at a stakeholders’ meeting gave notice of the local government election in the state with the time table of the exercise released to those that were present. But Kekemeke said ODIEC rather than conduct election has the intention to ‘select’ chairmen and councilors for local government areas in the state. Kekemeke said the Central Working Committee of the party, the State Executive Committee and the expanded executive had met and decided to boycott the election. “The conclusion reached was that the election is a sham meant to trap our party. It is an illegal election about to be conducted when there is a subsisting case on the matter at the Supreme Court. “Besides, Mimiko’s ODIEC is composed of Labour Party/PDP membership card carrying members.
