Fashion / All The Petite Ladies by Mztonya: 9:13am On Nov 30, 2014
So we petite ladies have had issues with choosing the right outfits, hope we can learn from this rules and also drop those we know
1. Keep garments simple and uncluttered and
small to medium in scale. Large patterns will
swamp your frame, big collars will make you
look smaller. Keep the scale of your garments
in proportion to your height and weight.
2. Avoid too much fabric. Lots of extra fabric
such as in waterfall cardigans or jackets, will
overwhelm you. You are best in a more slim,
formfitting line rather than lots of gathers,
pleats and volume.
3. Shoes matter. You are best in a low vamp
shoe, and in a shoe colour that either blends
with your trousers, tights or legs. Knee high
boots are a fabulous option for you.
4. A column of colour is your best friend.
Keeping the line of colour unbroken will really
elongate your frame. Dresses are fabulous for
you as they do that in one garment. Keep
your dresses to either knee length, or go maxi,
but remember if you go maxi, not too much
fabric, a lean fluid line is what you require.
6. Only one focal point. Tall women can carry
off multiple focal points. You are a smaller
canvas, so one focal point at a time, but make
sure you have one to direct the eye to where
you want the focus of your outfit to be.
7. Say yes to V-necks
V-necks elongate your look and flatter your
petite frame. So keep your eye out for v-
neck tops or dresses.
8. Go for prints – just find the right size print
I LOVE fun, bright color prints just as much
as the next girl. But as a petite girl, we
should avoid very large prints—those can
overwhelm your frame. I once read the
advice that the print shouldn't be larger
than your fist. Not sure what the exact rule
should be, but I think a print that makes a statement without
being too overwhelming.
9. Wear all one color
Wearing all one color helps create a
vertical line and can look super chic. Pull
off this look with separates or a jumpsuit
10. Combine high & low
I think the high-waisted look elongates the
frame and looks great on petite girls. When
paired with a top tucked in, you can look
super chic and put together. Also, don't be
afraid to go short on the length - just
because your legs are shorter than the
Gisele's of the world, doesn't mean they're
not fabulous!
At the end of the day, it's all about
proportion
I truly believe you can wear almost
anything, as long as it's the right proportion
to your petite frame. Yes, that goes for
"controversial" items such as crop jeans and
maxi dresses. You just have to pay
particular attention to where things fall on
your body. Make sure the tops of sleeves sit
on your shoulder, that skirt lengths don't
fall on in the mid-calf region and that
sleeves aren't too long
