PoliticsRe: APC To Expel Charles Enya For seeking Third Term For Buhari by nabegibeg: 6:09am On Nov 29, 2019
EBMedia:
By Omeiza Ajayi

The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has dissociated itself from the “charlatan” who instituted a court case seeking a Constitutional Amendment to allow President Muhammadu Buhari a third term in office, saying it has commenced a process of identifying the said character with a view to expelling him from the party.
The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu on Thursday in Abuja said it read in the media “about a purported legal action taken by a self-proclaimed member of the Party, Charles Enya, seeking an amendment of the constitution to allow President Muhammadu Buhari run for a third term in office”.

APC said it had initially chosen to ignore him, it that it has become important to send a clear message to him and such other agent provocateurs, adding that the initiator of the suit might have been sponsored by the “misguided opposition”.
“The Party is, however, by this statement sending a strong signal to such other busybodies like Charles Enya who may be contemplating testing the resolve of our government on our mission to work for the best for our country to be ready to face the law.

“We would follow this new enemy of our country, who is most likely being sponsored by the desperate and misguided opposition, every step of the way, using all legal means to thwart his devilish efforts to create chaos in our country.
“As a party, we would not take kindly to anyone or group causing an unnecessary distraction for this administration through anti-democratic actions. As a country, we are several years behind where we ought to be. President Buhari-led administration is focused on the onerous responsibility of delivering good governance. We are focused on revamping our moribund infrastructure, growing the economy, fighting corruption, creating the right environment for our teeming youths to deploy their creative energies, and providing adequate security for all of our people”, APC said.

The party added that it has no room for anti-democratic forces and would always abide by the tenets of democracy.
“We have tried to find out the status of this character claiming to be a member of our party. If he turns out to be our member, we would ensure the party organ that has the responsibility to act on this matter promptly commence the process of expelling him. We are a progressive party and we do not have space for anti-democratic forces and charlatans.

“At the last National Executive Committee NEC meeting of the Party, President Buhari didn’t mince words and he is not the type that talks tongue in cheek. He pointedly said he would abide by the constitution and uphold the oath of office he took, swearing by the holy book he believes in. This is he said was beside his advanced age which made such an idea beyond his contemplation.
“The NEC meeting highlights released to the media by the party equally quoted the President admonishing APC members, leaders and elected officials to reposition themselves in their respective constituencies so as to sustain the administration’s landmark legacies beyond 2023 when the President’s constitutionally permitted terms end.

“The president said history would not be fair to members of the APC collapses after his second term. What better proof is required of the President’s resolve to abide by the constitution on term limit?”, APC queried.

TravelRe: Deplorable State Of Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway (photos) by nabegibeg: 1:38pm On Nov 23, 2019
naijadrivablog:
Port Harcourt Enugu Expressway is a Trunk ‘A’ Road linking the South-South to South-East geopolitical zones in Nigeria. It is a federal road but it is currently in a deplorable state.

From Port Harcourt, as soon as you negotiate Oyibo from Eleme Flyover, towards Aba to Enugu, the road is in a bad state. The road causes a lot of traffic jam, broken down vehicles, accidents, and sufferings to road users plying that road.
From Port Harcourt to Aba is about 30minutes from Rumuola junction (Port Harcourt)but it now takes as long as two or more hours. Where the section of that road is good is after Aba towards Ohuhu-Umuahia-Okigwe sections. Other sections on that Enugu-Aba-PH road are bad too.

Naijadriva can confirm that transporters conveying passengers from Enugu to Port Harcourt, instead of traveling straight to Port Harcourt, negotiate to Owerri and continue their journeys to Port Harcourt. This is farther and increase their travel time, security risk, and money – yes, time is money. The security risk they might face is kidnappers or robbers that operate from 8pm or so, between Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and Omerelu (Rivers State).

We have learnt that some sections of the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt road is being fixed by the government but work seems to be very slow.

CrimeRe: Ismaila Mustapha Sues EFCC For N5 Million Over Unlawful Detention by nabegibeg: 5:39pm On Nov 21, 2019
IamHeWrites:
Social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has filed a suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging unlawful detention and a violation of his rights.

Mompha was arrested on October 19 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on allegations of cybercrime and money laundering.

The Instagram celebrity has now filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere through his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.

Igbere TV reports that Mompha is demanding damages of N5 million for his unlawful detention without trial.

He prayed the court to order the EFCC to either immediately charge him to court or release him if it was not ready to charge him to court.

Mr Oyewole said his client, as a Nigerian, was entitled to the protection of his fundamental rights under sections 34, 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution.

According to him, the court order to keep Mompha had since expired and he ought to be released.

A date is yet to be fixed for hearing of the case.

The EFCC in late October arrested a Lebanese and two other suspected accomplices of Mompha.

Hamza Koudeih was arrested after a three-hour stand-off at his N1.8 billion luxury apartment in the 33-storey Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos.

FoodRe: NAFDAC Shuts 47 Bakeries, Water Factories In Maiduguri During Routine Inspection by nabegibeg: 6:48pm On Nov 17, 2019
Gistfresh:
National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says 22 bakeries and 25 “sachet water” factories have been sealed during routine inspection in Maiduguri.

The agency’s Coordinator in Borno, Nasiru Mato, disclosed this shortly after a raid in Maiduguri on Sunday.

Mato said some of the shut factories did not meet the minimum requirements to operate, while others were not registered with the agency.

He added that “we have done a lot in terms of surveillance, investigative inspections and prompt response to consumer complaints and alerts. The objective is to ensure that the health and safety of the public is adequately catered for.

“Recently, we embarked on serious sensitisation visits to worship centres across the state. We have visited not less than 20 Mosques and Churches to create awareness on key issues of health concern, ranging from dangers of drug abuse and how to identify fake products.

“We have also educated people on the dangers of calcium carbide, a dangerous chemical used to hasten fruits’ ripening and the efforts has yielded positive results.

“Many people are more aware now and are wary of things happening around them.

“Operationally, we have paid surveillance and unannounced visits to bakeries to ascertain their good hygiene practices and to further ascertain their compliance with NAFDAC regulations.

“In addition, we visited factories where packaged water is produced to ensure that producers comply with good hygiene practice, as well as good manufacturing guidelines.”

He explained that where there was default, the agency meted out necessary sanctions on violators to ensure safety of consumers.

He noted that “in respect of bakeries, we sealed 22 for different categories of violations. And most of these violations are; unregistered products, products with expired licences, while some had hygienic practice.

“And in some cases, the bakeries were found using the dangerous potassium bromide, which is carcinogenic and has potential to cause cancer.

“In respect to water packaging establishments, we sealed 25 for non-compliance to regulations and importantly the failure of manufacturers to stick strictly to good manufacturing practices.

“You see, any product that does not carry NAFDAC registration is categorically defined as fake.

“That means the safety, wholesomeness and efficacy of the product has not been ascertained, so it is dangerous to the health of consumers. So, we are always calling on consumers to check for NAFDAC registration number before buying products.

“We are also calling on them to look at the manufacturing date on products, as well as the expiry date and batch number and the address of the company before buying products.”

Bidemiblog:
Apple sues man for repairing spoilt iPhones instead of making the owners buy a new one.

Henrik Huseby owns a little phone repair store in Norway where iPhone owners repair their phones instead of buying new ones. Apple is suing him for $30000 and demanding he destroys all the phones he repaired.

Case currently at Norway Supreme court.

Despite initially losing the case last year, Apple is continuing its legal pursuit against the him. Apple is attempting to hold the repair shop owner liable for importing what it says are counterfeit iPhone screens into his home country of Norway.

Apple sent Huseby a letter notifying him that a shipment of 63 iPhone 6 and 6S screens had been seized by Norwegian customs, and said that he must pay the company $3,566 and admit wrongdoing to avoid being sued. Huseby refused, Apple sued him, and the case went to court.

The screens that Huseby purchased were refurbished, he said, and were never advertised as official Apple parts and were thus not counterfeit. In April 2018, the court decided that because the logos were not visible, Apple's trademark hadn't been violated, and Huseby won the case.

EducationRe: LASU Students To Pay N150,000 For "Second Stream" Degree Programme by nabegibeg: 7:40am On Nov 16, 2019
mercyefe200:
Students of the Lagos State University will start paying a sum of N150,000 tuition fee for a second stream undergraduate programme.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, said the second stream degree programme was introduced to help deepen the entrepreneurship skills of students of the institution.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the Vice-Chancellor as saying, “Our regular Stream 1 programme tuition fee is still N25,000, while medical students pay N37,000.

“But for Stream 2 entrepreneurship programme, the tuition fee is N150,000, aside from acceptance and medical fees,”

However, Fagbohun was said to have refuted speculation that LASU had increased tuition fees for its undergraduate programmes.

It is not clear whether or not the second stream degree programme would be optional or mandatory for students of the university.

According to NAN, Fagbohun said the entrepreneurship programme, which would run along with normal undergraduate degrees, would prepare students to be self-employed and employers of labour.

The Vice-Chancellor added that “Research indicates that small-medium enterprises employ more than 80 per cent of the workforce in Nigeria.

“That is why we have a very close working relationship with SMEs, so they can impact on the university and impart right entrepreneurship skills to the students.

“Before starting, the Stream 2 entrepreneurship programme will go through all the approval processes of the university.

“Critical thing for LASU is quality assurance which means the two-stream programmes will be standard and run successfully together without any programme failing.

“We have a directorate of quality assurance that monitors every programme of the university in order to achieve best practices,” the vice-chancellor said.

He said that entrepreneurship courses would be taught only during the first year of the regular Stream 1 programme, while it would be taught throughout the duration of the Stream 2 programme.

Also speaking, Prof. Martins Anetekhan, Director, LASU Centre for Entrepreneur, said the university was concerned about widespread unemployment among graduates of Nigerian universities.

“After the investigation, we realised that most graduates are not getting jobs because the available job vacancies can not accommodate them.

“It means they have to be skillful and adjust their mindset to become entrepreneurs who can also employ others and contribute to national development.

“Apart from giving them knowledge on normal degree programme, LASU introduced Stream 2 programme so they can also acquire some skills, knowledge through entrepreneurship programmes,” he said.

Anetekhan said that there were 79 different areas of entrepreneurship for the Stream 2 programme and teaching had been arranged such that it would not clash with the normal degree programmes.

“We should all know that entrepreneurship programme is the delivery of handsome skills and LASU partnered with many small scale industries to teach the students,” he said.

PoliticsRe: Goodluck Jonathan: Political Office, Public Fund Reveal Person's True Character by nabegibeg: 7:40am On Nov 16, 2019
LegendVibes:
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has accused Nigerian politicians of undermining the electoral system in Nigeria.

Jonathan who spoke in Port Harcourt during the presentation of a book by Gabriel Toby, a former deputy governor of Rivers on Thursday November 14, called for the adoption of electronic system of voting to curb electoral malpractices as he stated that the country would not have deteriorated to this point if people’s votes mattered.

He admitted that there is an assumption that every politician is useless but averred that people don't change when elected into public office. The Bayelsa-born politician insisted that what happens is we vote for people we do not know.

He said: “The assumption is that every politician is useless, but the question of whether people change when they are elected into public office is something political analysts, researchers should unravel.

“However, I believe that people do not change when they get into political office, rather we voted for people we do not know.

“It is difficult to know people until you give the person political office and public funds to spend, that’s when you know the true character of such fellow.

"Another key issue is that we do not vote people into leadership offices, they use different means to get into office.

“When we develop as a nation to a point where our votes count, when people vote who they believe in, the behaviour of politicians will change.”
