Ravon: Key Highlights
- Gross Earnings decreased by 3.3% to N326.03bn from N337.27bn in Q3 2018 - Profit before Tax increased by 3.9% to N170.65bn from N164.25bn in Q3 2018 - Profit after Tax increased by 3.4% to N146.99bn from N142.22bn in Q3 2018 - Total Equity increased by 10.6% to N636.75bn from N575.57bn in Q3 2018
Guaranty Trust Bank Plc has reported a 3.2% YoY increase in Earning Per Share to N5.19 for 9M’19 in its latest filing with the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). The growth in earnings can be attributed to stronger net fee and commission income (+22.9% YoY) as well as modest improvements in net interest income (1.3% YoY) and operating efficiency (the cost to income: -150 bps).
Gross loans to customers grew by 7.8% from H1’19 level to N1.5 trillion in 9M’19. This implies a year-to-date loan growth of 6.8% compared to the 1.0% contraction observed in H1’19. It appears, however, that the size and structure of this loan growth were not enough to enable the bank meet the new LDR requirement of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), given that GUARANTY was one of the banks impacted by CBN’s LDR-related penalty. By our estimate, GUARANTY had an LDR of 63.8% (bank only) as at September 2019. This supports our view that the apex bank may have applied the more stringent loan to funding ratio in its evaluation.
Despite the growth in loans, NPL ratio declined from 7.3% in FY’18 to 5.6% in 9M’19. This eases our initial concern regarding the impact of the CBN’s credit creation drive on overall asset quality.
There is a sustained improvement in cost-to-income ratio to 36.5% in 9M’19 (H1’19: 37.2%; FY’18: 38.3%).
Annualised ROE and ROA, at 32.3% and 5.8% respectively, are currently ahead of FY’18 levels and management’s guidance for FY’19E.
There is a weakness in both net interest income (-2.7% QoQ) and non-interest revenue (-21.0% QoQ) in Q3’19 relative to other quarters.
The decline in non-interest income was largely driven by lower gross fees and commission income (-22.4% QoQ) and weaker net trading income (N155 million compared to N5.2 billion in Q2’19). Interest expense was also higher during the quarter, likely reflecting the 100bps increase in more expensive deposits.

The suspected kidnapper is identified as Taofeek Lawal, said he hailed from Osogbo, Osun State. He also confessed that he used the ransom he gets from the kidnapping to sponsor his wife’s education in the higher institutions in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Lawal also confessed that his targets are children between the ages of 4 and 6, and he collects N100,000 for ransom of each child.
According to him, he has other 15 men that work with the politicians and town leaders and they call him whenever his assistance was needed.
“I have built two houses, a mosque, and a church”, he added. Lawal also revealed his parents are aware of what he does.
The suspect further said that he had intended to quit the kidnapping but the said traditional ruler in Osogbo encouraged him to keep doing it. He said he had been caught five times in Lagos and Osogbo, but that the traditional ruler in Osogbo was always securing his release.
An OPC official at Olaifa zone, Mr. Babatunde Atiba, explained that Congress got a hint of the activities of the suspected kidnapper through a woman. Lawal has been handed over to the Oyo State Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for proper investigation and prosecution.

References: Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state, has appointed 60 new special advisers.
This development was announced in a statement signed on Thursday by Fidelis Soriwei, chief press secretary to the governor.
The appointees, drawn from the eight local government areas of the state, Soriwei said would help the government finish well.
“His Excellency the Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has approved the appointment of 60 new Special Advisers as part of the deliberate efforts to enable the Restoration Government to finish strong in the avowed commitment to deliver effective governance to the good people of Bayelsa State,” the statement read.
The appointment comes weeks to the state’s governorship election fixed for November 16.
Soriwei further said the “governor has directed the caucuses to nominate women for appointment as special advisers next week, in areas where they have not been considered for appointment.
“However, the government and the party deplore the ungrateful and unpatriotic attitude of a few appointees who have been sustained and recognised in the midst of far more qualified persons for over seven years but are falling prey to the antics of the All Progressives Congress which is inducing party members with money and fake promises.
“While the government wishes them well in their new endeavours, it is pertinent to note that for every appointee, the PDP has several other more qualified people who are ready and willing to be trusted with such privileged positions of responsibility.”
Dickson, who is completing a second term, have had over 2000 appointees in his cabinet since he got reelected in 2016.

Ezenwammadu: The University of Lagos has suspended its lecturer who was involved in a sex-for-marks scandal.
The lecturer was exposed in a video by BBC Africa where an undercover journalist, Kiki Mordi, disguised as a 17-year-old admission seeker.
The vice-chancellor of the institution, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, confirmed the development to PREMIUM TIMES in an interview Monday afternoon.
Mr Ogundipe said the lecturer has been suspended indefinitely.
”A panel will be set up to investigate the issue,” he said.
The investigation
The investigation is part of a broader one that uncovers the sex for grade crises in universities in Nigeria and Ghana.
The UNILAG lecturer, Boniface Igbeneghu, is a former sub-dean of Faculty of Art and head pastor of local Foursquare Gospel Church.
Mr Igbeneghu invited the ‘admission seeker’ to his office for ‘tutorials’ and at their first meeting asked: “how old are you?”.
After responding, the lecturer commented on her appearance.
“Don’t you know you are a beautiful girl? Do you know I am a pastor and I am in my 50s but if I want a girl of 17 years, all I need is a sweet tongue and put some money,” he said.
He later continued with the harassment of the undercover reporter oblivious that he was being filmed.
Many Nigerians have called for the suspension and investigation of the lecturer.

Sportdab: Here is the surprising moment an Europa League game between Dudelange and Azerbaijani club Qarabag had to be briefly suspended in the first half Thursday after a drone flew over the field carrying what looked an Armenian Flag, MySportDab reports.
The drone incensed Qarabag players, who tried to hit it with the ball as it flew over the center circle, and the referee made the decision to halt play for about 15 minutes with Qarabag leading 2-0.
Play later resumed, with Qarabag winning 4-1.
Azerbaijan and Armenia are in a territorial dispute over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
A fan carrying the Armenian flag also ran onto the pitch during Qarabag's away game at Arsenal in London in last season's Europa League.
Nagorno-Karabakh is a region of Azerbaijan which has been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia since a war there ended in 1994. watch the video...

Sports › Re: Top 10 Goalkeepers With The Most Goal In Football History by nabegibeg: 6:10pm On Oct 03, 2019 |
cheapgoals: Seeing goalkeeper score a goal for their teams are fairly uncommon in football, they spend most of the entire 90 minutes in their marked territory (18-yard box), a restricted area on the pitch which is meant for depending. They deal with the ball, so as to safeguard the opposition from scoring.
While at that, it is profoundly unusual for a goalkeeper to move beyond this area and join an attack, as this leaves the team defense vulnerable for counter-attacks and long-distance volleys until the goalkeeper comes back to defend.
Goalkeeper scoring a goal would be an incredible sight to behold and to be remembered when it does occur, their goals will tend to come with drama, gut-wrenching disbelieve and excitement, as the giant frames amble forward for the dying seconds in a last-ditch attempt to salvage a match either an equalizer or that most-win champions league away match.
Today, CheapGoals is taking a glance through the years for goalkeepers who have managed to give the footballing fans extraordinary goals, and sometimes exceptional skills beyond the sticks. Below are a list of top goalkeepers with the most goals in football history.
Dimitar Ivankov (42)
https://i2.wp.com/cheapgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Dimitar-Ivankov.jpg?w=940&ssl=1
The Bulgarian international has that brilliant touch in regards to scoring goals, with 42 goals through the span of his career, just as in winning trophies. In 10 years at Levski Sofia, with whom he won eight noteworthy titles, he also won a Turkish Cup for Keyserispor in 2008, scoring two solid penalties in the deciding shoot-out, as well as the Super Lig.
Rene Higuita (41)
https://i2.wp.com/cheapgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/rene-higuita-scorpion-colombia.jpg?w=770&ssl=1
The Colombian shot-stopper is one of the most ‘colourful‘ characters ever to have manned the stick. He won 68 caps for Colombia, scoring eight goals.
He played at the World Cup in 1990 and gained recognition for his outfield tarrying prior to Roger Milla’s goal for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon which thumped the South Americans out of the competition. At club level he played most for Atletico Nacional, winning a Copa Libertadores in 1989.
Many consider Higuita to be something of a comic figure than a serious goalkeeper because of his disastrous d*cking around for Colombia at the 1990 World Cup. El Loco as he’s fondly called invented the silly “Scorpion Kick “at Wembley in a friendly match against England in 1995 from a misplaced Jamie Redknapp cross.
Jorge Campos (46)
https://i1.wp.com/cheapgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/jorge_campos_usa_94.jpg?w=810&ssl=1
He is affectionately remembered by football fans for his peculiar, self-designed clown bright kits, he began his career in 1988 at Pumas and could not dislodge their number one goalkeeper at that time, so requested to be played on the outfield position during his second season at Pumas and went on to score 14 league goals.
It has turned out to be trite to claim that goalkeepers are extremely bored players, but no player fulfilled that generalization better than Jorge Campos.
All through his time in the game, he regularly became bored manning the stick and was set in a striking role by his coach, to great impact, scoring multiple times in his playing days. In spite of being the only 1.68m, he won 130 caps for el Tri as a goalkeeper and played in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups.
Nothing is impossible when you’re a flat out maverick.
José Luis Chilavert (67)
https://i2.wp.com/cheapgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Chilavert.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&ssl=1
The Paraguayan international holds the record for the most international scored by a goalkeeper piling on an amazing 8 goals for Paraguay. The first goalkeeper ever to score a hattrick was tremendously fruitful all through his long and controversial career, procuring respect as a prestigious free-kick expert.
The 52-year-old, who captained his national side in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and 2002, conceded that football fans used to shout at him when he would come out with the ball. However, Chilavert says that he had faith in his abilities and even working on taking penalty and freekicks.
Chilavert scored 10 goals in 35 games for Velez during the 1997/98 season which for any position would be noteworthy and appreciated, he enjoyed nine productive seasons with Velez Sarsfield (Argentina) for whom he scored nearly 50 goals. He won four league titles, a Copa Libertadores as well as Intercontinental Cup against Milan in 1994.
Rodrigo Ceni (131)
https://i1.wp.com/cheapgoals.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/CENI.jpg?w=800&ssl=1
The undisputed lord of the goalscoring goalkeepers, no goalkeeper has notched in more goals than this Lionel Messi of goalkeepers. The Brazil international has played more than 900 games for Brazilian outfit (Sao Paulo) and he holds the record for goals scored in the Copa Libertadores for his club.
He’s also the first goalkeeper to reach a 100 goal landmark. In 2006 in a league game against Cruzeiro he saved a penalty while 2-0 down, minutes after that he scored through a free-kick and later leveled the match with a penalty. In a long, distinguished career, Ceni has hoisted two Copa Libertadores titles, three Brazilian leagues and a World Club Championship against Liverpool in 2005.

Mensah007: I had to open another account to post this. Me and my gf graduated from the school and are currently serving. I'm serving in Lagos while she is in abuja. She was actually redeployed from a far north state to abuja with money by her parents. We re both in our mid 20s, We love each other so much and would like to marry asap if money comes. After we graduated from Uniben, she persuaded me to go over with her to abuja and search for greener pasture, i made frantic calls in attempts to secure a place to squat over there but to no avail, I had no relatives there and d few friends I have there aren't that close. I later had to go over to Lagos to hustle because i have a few relatives there. Even while i was in Lagos she was still insisting i come over to abuja, reasons that abuja is a more lucrative city. I truly agree to that fact but i seriously have nobody to squat with and I have nobody at all in abuja, not even been to abuja before. At a time she managed to convince one of her mum's sales boys to take me in in his room but the guy disappointed at the last minute so I had to stay back.
Nysc came, I'm serving in Lagos, she was posted to Kebbi and later redeployed to Abuja. While in camp too, I tried redeploying to abuja on health grounds but I was redeployed bk to Edo state so i had to cancel the application and stay bk. She has been hampering that i redeploy to Abuja but i don't have the 50k fee to pay.
I'm now in Lagos serving in a school, during the holidays i always go out to look for a good job or a good hustle to do. I wasted transport fares and stress attending interviews daily and meeting people but nothing came out yet. Though i did one gig BA job and im yet to get paid. She is still insisting im lazy nd wasting away in Lagos nd i should come over to Abuja. I would like to add that I saw myself thru school with supports from my parents so I'm not lazy. One regret I have is that the hustles i did in uniben are not long term and can't be moved to Lagos. My plan is to find a good job or good hustle and ghost nysc . Im also looking forward to saving to buy a good laptop and starting online business because i have learnt a lot on Nairaland although saving 80k from 19,800 salary might take time.
I have managed to secure a room in a flat where im staying currently, I have resigned myself to be teaching in my ppa for the meantime and still be looking out . She recently became more persistent about the abuja move and gave me few days to come over or forget about her. She initially proposed to pay 50k for d relocation lobbying but relocation for my batch isn't possible until October ending. She however insist i must be in abuja this Saturday. I have been thinking about this all week, i don't know anybody in abuja, I don't have accommodation there, how do i do my clearance in Lagos if I move, I don't even have money so I will live off her benevolence till I find something doing. Had it been i have a sure hustle/job to take up in abuja, i can make the sacrifice and leave my apartment in Lagos here. I'm just confused. I need advice please Ask yourself when you get to Abuja what next? Have you thought of this as her strategy to pull the plug in your relationship? Since she knows your limits and trying to use it against you Let her come to terms with the reality and she needs to understand that this is no easy decision to make |

GistMore11: A pick-up van, which was purportedly conveying sawdust, has been intercepted by men of the Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State at the Nigerian border with the Republic of Benin.
The NCS operatives discovered that N160m worth of Indian hemp was concealed under the sawdust.
The Controller of the command, Zulkifli Abdullahi, told journalists on Wednesday that the marijuana was in several packs and was discovered in a border community, Elekokan, in the Iwajowa Local Government Area of the state.
Abdullahi said the consignment was the biggest volume of illicit drugs seized by the command in recent times.
He stated that the driver of the vehicle and his motor boy fled into a thick forest on sighting his men.
According to him, intelligence report had indicated that the Indian hemp was heading for Nigeria from Ghana through Togo and Benin Republic.
The controller stated, “As you can see, we have 101 bags of India hemp and 1,047 blocks of compressed special Indian hemp. According to what we learnt, three years ago, the compressed blocks of hemp sold for N120,000 each in Kaduna; and today, it may go for N150,000.
“If you add the value of the bags, which is N20,000 each, the Indian hemp is worth N159m, or approximately N160m. I know it was God and the efforts of our officers that helped us to intercept this volume of Indian hemp, because it is only God, who knows the damages this could have done to our country and our youths if it had made its way into the country.
“It probably was heading for the North, because our people take much of this thing in the North, but wherever it was heading for, we are appealing to our people to desist from taking this. It is very annoying. We are not going to relent in the fight against smuggling.” The officer in charge of operations, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in the state, Mr Segun George, commended the men of the NCS for their commitment to rid the country of smuggling.
He said the NDLEA would work with the agency to ensure the destruction of the Indian hemp whenever it got clearance from the headquarters in Abuja.
Meanwhile, two men, Akanbi Kenny and Abidoye Obafemi, caught with a substance suspected to be Indian hemp, were on Wednesday remanded in a correctional facility by a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State.
Appearing before Justice Peter Lifu, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Addressing the court, the counsel for the NDLEA, Mr O. F. Azugo, said the accused committed the offences on Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Ipetu-Ijesa in the Oriade Local Government Area of the state.
Azugo said the NDLEA operatives caught the accused while travelling with the substance.
He maintained that the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 19 and 20 (1)(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap 30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The defence counsel, Mr O. N. Benson, had moved an application for the bail of his clients.
Justice Lifu, however, ruled that the accused be remanded in the correctional facility in Ile-Ife.
He adjourned the case till October 30.

Respeckk: Matured advice please.....
Ever since i was small my mum have always have this unpleasant smell.she baths often but this smell have choose to not go away, i heard she got an infection after a miscarriage because we do discuss it amongst ourselves,we her children. The smell comes from her private and i dont know if she is aware of it. She baths often but after sometime the smell starts again.
She came to my house for visit and i was embarrassed when my husband passed and was asking what was stinking up the kids room, i know it was my mum but i told him something else. She is someone that always like tying wrapper without any under and you can imagine how it is.
I dont want to embarrass but i know it has always been an issue with my dad(they have seperate room coz of this).she get angry easy too but i really have to.
Ps she has treated infection often and on but this smell is what i dont understand.doctors should help too. Why is it that the smell refuse to go away because she bathes morning and night(rule while growing up in our house) The same way you will tell her that you have got a job |
