Introvertedmarc: Peter Obi, vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 presidential election, says people in power do not get told the truth.
Obi spoke on Friday as a guest speaker at the first convocation of Chrisland University, Abeokuta.
Speaking on ‘Creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship: A critical intersection for economic development in Africa’, Obi said the challenges besetting the country are many.
He noted that the failure of the leaders to invest in education and entrepreneurship led the country to its present economic state.
He blamed the leaders for their roles in promoting corruption.
“The truth is that in Nigeria, the problem is over 75%. The country has been criminalised. Quote me, I am talking from experience of somebody who had served, I was there for eight years,” he said.
“What I found in Nigerians and your parents here, including me, I am a victim of that, I was governor for eight years, you can hardly see anybody who tells you something is wrong.
“Everybody calls you his excellency, that since you came, things have changed, even, when you know that nothing has changed.
“It is just that we have a government that has criminalised the society and people celebrate criminality. So, nobody could say to them, stop.
“Those who steal, if they come to church they will give them front seats, so, why would they not steal? They are the ones who are given chieftaincy tittles, they are the ones who get tittles in the world. So, we need to change all that.”
He urged the youth not to “toe the lines of the previous leaders in the country”.
LolaO: My relationship of 5 years ended in the most heartbreaking way.
He got transferred to Asaba from Lagos and months later just stopped talking to me, no communication, no closure, nothing, just like that. It’s been 5 months now.

wwwihy: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports in a section of the media suggesting that it plots to retain the zoning of its presidential slot in the North East and South East.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, addressing a news conference on Sunday in Abuja, described the reports as mere speculation. Mr Ologbondiyan said those behind the reports were political terrorists whose plan was to mislead the public and cause disaffection within the ranks of the PDP with the hope of using such fabrications to further their own selfish political ambitions.
He urged all PDP members and supporters to ignore those seeking to cause disaffection in the party’s ranks.
“The PDP states categorically that our governors are not divided along any lines of ambition towards 2023, neither is there any plot to stop the ambition of any of our members.
“For the avoidance of doubt, our party is yet to discuss the 2023 presidential election, overtly or covertly, at any time whatsoever.
“If anything, the PDP is currently working with Nigerians on how to win its elections in Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.
“We will not be distracted by individuals who found themselves operating in the highest offices of the land but failing in governance,” Mr Ologbondiyan said.
He said that as a party, they were also working with their respective state governors and legislators across the country, in line with the party’s manifesto to improve on the welfare and development of Nigerians.
Moreover, it is also imperative to counsel, without any equivocation, that enemies of our party, who feel threatened by the rising profile of Gov. Nyesom Wike, should have a rethink on their incessant attacks on the governor,” he said. Mr Ologbondiyan appreciated the contribution of Mr Wike, as well as all other PDP governors, to the growth of the party.

danphy6x: State chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) on Friday described the decision of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, to set up an Interim Management Committee for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), despite the appointment of a substantive board by the President Muhammadu Buhari as a national embarrassment and asked the President to sack him without delay.
The APC chairmen in a statement issued by their chairman and Secretary, Ali Bukar Dolari and Ben Nwoye, respectively, said: “We see the minister as a clog in the wheel of progress. He has a vested interest to annex the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as a unit of the Niger Delta Ministry where he is the minister.
“We query the rationale behind Akpabio’s hastened moves to impose an illegal Interim Management Committee in breach of the NDDC act.
“What does Akpabio intend to achieve by hurriedly appointing the committee whereas, Akpabio is aware of President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of a substantive board who are currently undergoing confirmation screening by the Senate?
“We view a situation where a minister exhibits crass insubordination to the office and person of the President, who appointed him as a minister, as a national embarrassment.
“We are irked by the conflicting orders one exercised by the President and Commander in Chief who effectively discharged his powers in accordance with the provisions of section 2(2)(a) of the Niger Delta Development Commission,(NDDC) ( Establishment) Act, 2000 by appointing eminent Nigerians into the governing board of the NDDC as read by the President of Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan in plenary only for Godswill Akpabio to appear on a national television in the evening of same day to announce a three-man committee to run the affairs of the NDDC which President Buhari has earlier appointed qualified Nigerians to oversee via his executive communication to the Senate seeking for confirmation of the nominees.
“We call on the President to sack Senator Godswill Akpabio without delay before he causes more embarrassment to this government and malign his hard-earned reputation with his uncommon illegalities.
“We call on President Buhari to reverse the order delegating his statutory regulatory powers of the NDDC to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. The minister’s conducts so far show that the NDDC under the supervision of the ministry will be counter-productive as such, the supervision of the NDDC should be returned back to the Presidency as it was before now.
“We call on the leadership of the National Assembly to exercise its constitutional powers to correct the lawlessness of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and ensure the immediate inauguration of the board upon confirmation by the Senate so as to curb the arbitrariness of a power-drunk uncommon minister and uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
