PoliticsIf You Are A Nigerian “go And Die” – Adams Aliu Oshiomhole by naijacenter(op): 2:06pm On Nov 30, 2013
I couldn't help feeling sorry reading about the apology tendered by Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole as a result of the social media criticism that greeted his directive to a widow in Benin city the Edo State capital when he directed her to ‘go and die’. Unfortunately, I do not feel sorry for the Governor or his team of advisers who must have advised him to swallow his pride and apologize for the statement, but for the widow in particular and the totality of the Nigerian masses in general.

Watching the video, one would notice how the woman begged the “Comrade -Governor”, lamenting how she had lost her husband who was a police officer and died while serving the nation. At face value, many Nigerians might not understand the implication of the statement as it relates to the issue, but being a Nigerian who knows what it means to live in a country without water, electricity, affordable and available healthcare, food, safe and reliable transportation systems, social security or stable power supply, I think the governor spoke from his heart and only said the expectation of the nation’s political class.

“Go and die” only reflects the condition Nigerians have been put in over the years by our government, and the governor only paraphrases the situation in a statement. Tell me, what better word can reflect the expectations from the demoralizing conditions Nigerians go through every day to make ends meet? When a driver leaves his family in the morning to travel along the Benin – Lagos expressway, what are the chances that he is not going to die? When a University Lecturer travels from Benin to Kano in order to attend a crucial meeting to ensure university students get back to school after 5 months of staying at home, what are the chances he is not going to die by the reckless convoy of the Kogi state Governor? When a policeman says farewell to his wife and children as he goes to serve his country? What are the chances that he doesn't go to die?

Sarcastically, this widow in this situation is probably a widow whose husband death benefits was stolen by “Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina and his gang”, thereby leaving her and her children with nothing to fend for themselves. Haven lost their breadwinner, such a situation alone is a directive to her and her children to “go and die” and the governor only reminded her of the needful. So merely saying those words was an interpretation of a situation and an expectation from his part.

It is no news that Nigerians are resilient, hardworking and hopeful even in the mist of total hopelessness. No doubts, we certainly are the happiest people on earth as assumed by some, else, how possible will millions of us live on less than a dollar a day and still smile, tell jokes, play and watch football with so much enthusiasm and Joy? How else will university student be at home for 5 months and not complain? The world decries economic meltdown which has been characterized by suicide attempts and successes by individuals and families in Europe and other parts of the world. Compared to the standard of life in countries like Greece, Italy and Spain where higher rates of suicidal attempts, demonstrations and protest have been the gateway through citizens’ expression of displeasure, Nigerians over the years have found themselves in worse conditions and more frustrating position. But ironically, we never complain demonstration or protest.

PoliticsIndependent Television (ITV) Intentionally Edited The Outrage Video Of Oshiomhol by naijacenter(op): 7:21pm On Nov 29, 2013
The governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole has been accused by the people of Edo State for allegely insulting a widow who he said violated the laid down rules.

In a video released on youtube and went viral on the social media, the governor was seen confiscating the widow's items which was found on the road side.

What sparked public outrage is the utterance made by the state governor to the pleading woman saying "if you are a widow, go and die"

Nigerians have expressed disappointment over such an utterance particularly coming out from a former NLC Chairman now a governor.

As obvious as it seems, the TV channel in Edo State, ITV intentionally edited the scene to suit the public by removing what the public called "unexpected statement for the CLAIMED man of the people"

The incident took place along Mission road and other people affected apart from the widow were people who packed their cars(both private and commercial) blocking the way, CD sellers who placed their speakers to cause obstruction, food vendors, were all moved to the office of the state traffic management agency.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole also sacked five of the officials who were not found on duty during the exercise. It was also discovered that members of the State War Against Indiscipline suddenly appeared .

Watch ITV Edited video here.. the scene where Oshiomhole used the heartless word was completely removed from the public view. Whatever video that went viral was a recording of ordinary viewers.

PoliticsDr. Mohammed Nazeef Yusuf, Boko Haram Linked Lecturer Disown By Kogi State Uni by naijacenter(op): 12:25pm On Nov 29, 2013
The Kogi State lecturer, Dr. Mohammed Nazeef Yausuf, who was arrested by the Department of State Service, DSS over his involvement and link with the dreaded islamist group, Boko Haram has been disowned by the university

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASSU has also alleged that the arrested lecturer was never active in the union.

According to ASUU Chairman, Dr. Sylvester Ukwuteno, Kogi Chapter debunked the report by some people that the arrested lectuer was a strong member of the organisation, saying that he was never active as a member of ASUU.

His words, “the only link between him (Dr. Nazeef Yusuf) and the association was because ASUU’s due is deducted at source from lecturers’ salaries. And he, like everyone else has his dues deducted to make him an automatic member. But he’s not a strong member as it has been widely claimed. I cannot remember the last time he attended any of our meetings”.

Also, the institution in a statement signed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Hassan Isah admitted that though the suspect, Dr. Mohammed Nazeef Yusuf who was recently paraded by Security agent is a lecturer in the institution the governing council and the management of the school do not know anything about him beyond his duty as a lecturer

“The Governing council and the management therefore condemned and dissociated themselves from all criminality and terrorism in whatever shape or form, where ever and whenever it exist.”

The VC noted that it became imperative to respond to the situation as the alleged involvement of the lecturer has elicited a lot of enquiries from friends, well- wishers, students, stakeholders and sister institutions.

“In view of the negative interpretation and implication for our hard-earned reputation, and the damaging impression on unsuspected members of the public, the institution dissociates itself from all criminal and criminal activities including those of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.”

PoliticsPDP Crisis: How The Fight Started by naijacenter(op): 12:00pm On Nov 28, 2013
ABUJA -THE Senate yesterday absolved the security agents that carried out the raid at the Apo Legislative Quarters which led to the death of eight persons suspected to be members of Boko Haram of extra-judicial killing but a hastily executed operation.

The Senate had set up a 20-member Joint Committee on National Security and Intelligence and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to investigate the alleged extra-judicial killings of the eight in September 20th by the combined team of soldiers and Department of State Service.

The Joint Committee which was chaired by Senator Mohammed Magoro, PDP, Kebbi South, and retired General in the Nigeria army in its report which was adopted on the floor of the senate said that the operation of security agents at Apo that produced casualties was necessitated by electronic intercepts made by the DSS which indicated plans to attack the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on 22nd September, 2013.

The report however led to a sharp disagreement between two generals, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Magoro and Senator Mohammed Saleh, CPC, Kaduna Central who presented what could be said to be a minority report but in contravention of the senate standing order that any dissenting report should be documented and submitted to the senate for debate.

According to the finding of the committee, there were influx of Boko Haram elements into the FCT and its environs that was noticed through various sources including electronic intercepts.

It further stated that, “The security agencies had enough and convincing intelligence to believe that some Boko Haram elements were embedded among the over one hundred dwellers of the uncompleted building at Apo.

“The arrest of Kamal and Adamu (Boko Haram suspects) and intelligence information derived from them while in the custody of the DSS actually confirmed increased activities of Boko Haram terrorists in Abuja the seat of government.

“The categorical and damning evidence given by Kamal and Adamu including the large cache of weapons alleged buried in Gudu cemetery and the presence of members of Boko Haram sect living in uncompleted building made it imperative for the security agencies to take action.”

Senate in its findings said that the security agencies anticipated that the military operations taking place in Borno and Yobe States against Boko Haram would lead to the sect finding other locations for safety and continuation of its operation.

It further stated that, “Mohammed Adamu openly and categorically confessed that he joined the Boko Haram sect and that he often conveyed members to the uncompleted building for meetings three times in a week. During the meetings, he used to serve as a watchman.

“Four arrested suspects in the custody of the DSS have confessed to be Boko Haram members. Those that were either killed or sustained gunshot injuries were those who attempted to run out of the building.”

The Committee also noted that the sect leader, Suleiman Musa was in the building during the raid that killed eight persons as Mohammed Adamu confirmed seeing him though could not be arrested as he slipped away in the confusion that ensued.

“An AK 47 magazine loaded with live ammunition not belonging to the security agencies was recovered from the scene of incidence.

“The owner of the uncompleted building identified as Mr. Adekunle Salisu, confirmed the illegal occupation of the uncompleted building by some persons.

“Majority of the occupants of the uncompleted building cohabited with Boko Haram elements unknowingly. There is a Boko Haram cell in Abuja planning to carry out terrorist activities in the area.

“The death of eight people and wounding of eleven others was not a case of extra-judicial killing but the outcome of hastily executed operation.”

PoliticsArmoured Cars: Stella Oduah, The Best Nollywood Actress Of The Year by naijacenter(op): 8:01am On Nov 27, 2013
Nigeria government has decided to be the theatre in the nation while the officers are the on-screen characters and performing artists, the conventional Nigerian is the fan who uses the little he/she needs to purchase the non standard film handled by the entertainment industry.

There was time I thought Nigerians are the most brilliant people in the world until I started noticing some things that made me realized that we are not even close to the position i rated us. I must be a bad mathematician.

Sahara reporters with his relentless effort, cracked down a hidden atrocity of the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah. Those who wish for changes in the country raised alarm, but few people out of tribalism and politics still think such revelation with obvious evidence was a FABRICATED story to tarnish the image of the minister.

The initial defence of the minister's supporters was that, she bought the vehicles because of threat to life. A threat that was never reported to any security agency; or told to anyone even in the aviation industry unless those who were in defence of the action of Oduah.

You could remember that in the reply to the query issued by President Jonathan to Stella, there was no response relating to threat to life. It was completely base on official reasons for ordering the armoured cars.

PoliticsStart Writing Your Handover Notes – Amaechi, Others Tells Jonathan by naijacenter(op): 7:54am On Nov 27, 2013
The fight within the People Democratic Party, PDP has escalated to a state of no return as the newly decamped and aggrieved ex-PDP members have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to start writing his handover notes to leave the office.

This was contain in a press statement issued and signed by Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze after the merger. The statement also revealed that a lot of PDP members in National Assembly will soon join the merger.

He added that the number of PDP has dropped down to 16 governors while that of APC with the merger has increased to 18.

“Late this morning, at about 11:46, the National Chairman of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, formally announced the merger of the party with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The merger was contained in a communiqué which Alhaji Baraje read to journalists at the end of a meeting between the leadership of New PDP and that of the APC held at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. The communiqué signed by Bisi Akande the APC National Chairman and Kawu Abubakar Baraje the National Chairman of NPDP reads, “A meeting of the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, and the new PDP met this morning at the residence of the Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Abuja and after exhaustive deliberations the two parties agreed to merge in order to rescue our fledgling democracy and the nation”

“With this development, the G7 Governors of New PDP, namely, Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), are now members of the APC. The merger thus shoots up the number of APC State Governors to 18 while PDP’s shrinks to 16, with All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Labour Party having one governor each. A similar permutation exists in the National Assembly where we now have the majority with PDP and its allies in minority. “

“The simple meaning of this is that APC is now the majority party in the country while PDP has become a minority party. In the circumstances, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan must now start writing his handover notes because his ambition to maouevre the party structures so as to get a third term in office in 2015 has suddenly collapsed. ”

Politics"The Evil Of Femi Akenson Rotimi", Nigeria Ambassador To Sri Lanka by naijacenter(op): 7:36pm On Nov 24, 2013
........He fired me because i refused to sleep with him - former secretary

By Ehi Ekhator

Being an ambassador, your primary assignment is to be an official representative to a foreign country. One of your duty is to paint the country you are representing in good image, this is a different case when it gets to the Ambassador to Sri Lanka, F. A. Rotimi.

Mr. Rotimi is not a hidden person when talking about an ambassador or a diplomat with a blacklist, but a country like Nigeria, influential people are hardly crucified despite their horrific and embarrassing attitude home and abroad.

A fan who read about his egolistic attitude towards NAIJA CENTER NEWS during VP Sambo visit in Sri Lanka, said she wasn't surprise as she knew it would only be a matter of time before he (Rotimi) shows his true colour.

Her words "I read your news on the Sri lankan meeting and was utterly not surprised considering my brush with Rotimi who is the ambassador there, i knew it would only be a matter of time before signs of his true colors began to show"

"His trip to Poland was the punitive equivalent of sending some one to serbia, this was as a result of his atrocities,

"During this "chastisement" probation was when his moles were deleting his bad case files which aided him in scaling through the panel screening for ambassadorial position. he had cases of infidelity and illegitimate children, bilking the chancery position and even fraudulent papers presented to the Ministry which was the basis on his being appointed in the first place to chancery"

She added "He brags about being untouchable and what not, uses security to harass "un-friendly media" as long as you are not on his hatchet team to cover up stuff"
In the book written by Mr. John Igbokwe in 1995 titled "The Evil of femi Akenson Rotimi" it narrated his atrocities during his time in Philippines as the head of Chancery.

According to the book, Mr. Rotimi's fraudulent rank was first discovered by a Nigerian diplomat who was working with him in Manila. It was discovered that Femi Akenson Rotimi arrived in Philippines with a rank he dubiously acquired.

Below is summary of his atrocities:

1. Mr. F. A. Rotimi committed a criminal breach when he served in Canada. He was demoted in rank and punitively transferred to a former Communist country in Europe.

2. Stealing of embassy property by Mr. F. A. Rotimi that Ajewole did not investigate leading to popular perception that Nigerian diplomats in Manila are thieves.

3. Mr. F. A. Rotimi corruptly claimed several thousands of United States' dollars in false and unqualified Kindergarten education expenses for his under-aged daughter with the conscious acquiescence of Charge D'Affaires, Mr. Ajewole.

4. Four (4) confirmed and two (2) widely assumed Nigerian citizens were assassinated in the Philippines over the seventeen-year history of the Embassy of Nigeria, Manila from 1981 through 1998. Five or 83.33 percent of the six murders occurred under the incredibly reckless and corrupt administration of Messrs. Samuel I. Ajewole and Femi Akenson Rotimi. A seventh murder which occurred in 1999 was a direct result of the foundation of abuse and neglectful insensitivity laid by Messrs. Ajewole and Rotimi.

PoliticsInvestigatn: NNPC Zonal Manager Rakes In Millions After Turning Workers 2 Slaves by naijacenter(op): 6:42pm On Nov 24, 2013
…HOW NLC SOLD TEACHERS OUT TO OPPRESSORS AFTER BEING BRIBED

…WE ARE LIVING IN SOWETO – TEACHERS CRIES OUT

Against the law of the International Labor Organization on teachers, stating that teachers should “receive the same remuneration and enjoy the same basic conditions of employment as teachers employed on a full time basis” which was collaborated by the law governing employment in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), we can still confirm that NNPC is not only a breeding ground of corruption in Nigeria, but a field where teachers employed there are turned to slaves for lives, who work for their paymasters, while the Zonal Managers and top directors in Abuja pocket the money legally meant for them.

As exposed in the part one of this report, we have it on good authority that Alhaji A.U Babangida was the NNPC Warri Zonal Manager (ZM) who sold out the teachers to a fraudulent company, Lighthouse Engineering Ltd, under the guise of a contract, while NNPC pay their salary through the backdoor. Several investigation carried out on NNPC Warri Zonal office reveals that the current Zonal Manager, Mr. Olegunleko Bola. A. has not only perfected the job began by Alhaji Babangida, but has added twist to the whole scenario, by issuing threats to the traumatized teachers whenever they try to bring their plights to the public domain. A reliable source in the Zonal office we gathered had planned to advise the teachers to write to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), but was hurriedly transferred out of the zone.

In 2004, following a near violent explosion by the angry teachers to demonstrate against the slavery they are subjected to, the then ZM, Alhaji Zaki Abdullahi gathered them and offered to pay them the sum of N100,000 as payoff, despite working for 5 to 15 years, an action which prompted an outrage, before the plan was shelved and promises were made to them about making them permanent staffs, which was never fulfilled till date.

An highly placed and impeccable source within the Zonal office confided in NAIJA CENTER NEWS correspondent that the money shared by the Zonal office from the teacher’s salary is over N120,000 million Naira yearly since the year 2008. “I don’t know how much they have been cutting from the teacher’s salary since inception, but I can tell you that the ZM alongside Lighthouse makes over N120,000 million monthly from the teachers yearly, that is if it is not more than that. Bola and Bamidele are exploiting the teachers. Our boss on top knows and that is why he has kept quiet, as long as they get their share monthly. As long as nobody talks about it, they will remain our slaves”, the source stated.

In December 2012, Olegunleko gathered ten heads of departments in Warri Zonal office and shared N500,000 each to them in celebration of the gain made that year from the teachers benefit, while he gave each of the ‘contract’ teachers a bag of rice worth, N8550. Against the permanent staff who are paid over N600,000, the paymaster (Lighthouse) in connivance with NNPC Zonal office pay the illegal ‘contract’ staff a meager salary of N55,000 despite being graduates and working for over fifteen years, while some have worked up to twenty five years.

We have evidence document attached on the site, please kindly read.

Sorry o but true
A senseless Nigerian response. You must be in your early 20s.
PoliticsFEAR! Nigeria Embassy Excludes Naija Center News Reporter From Meeting by naijacenter(op):
The fear of the unknown is the beginning of failure; it was during the just concluded Commonwealth program in Sri Lanka that took place on November 10-17th that Naija Center News was victimized by the Ambassador through his confidante, Ibrahim Hamiudu.

The Nigeria ambassador to Sri Lanka, F. A. Rotimi, initially called a meeting of all Nigerians and NCN was invited. In the meeting, the ambassador requested Nigerians present, who had intentions of asking President Jonathan’s questions to send their questions for screening.

This didn’t go down well with many including NCN. He also requested volunteers for different activities to entertain the President during the meeting.

Naija Center News was one of the media accredited to cover The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka.

During the meeting with VP Sambo, who replaced President Jonathan due to his inability to attend the program, Naija Center News reporter was excused out by one of the Sri Lanka securities.

Surprisingly, we were told that we weren’t invited whereas the text messages sent to us were still on our phones. It was an eye sore but needed to deal with it, we found our way back few minutes later. One of the embassy staff called Boco appealed and asked us to sit calmly without causing tension in the hall, during this time, VP Sambo was making his speech.

Few minutes later, Boco invited us out again saying, he has been childed by some of the staff and he was told not to allow us stay in the hall. His reason was simple; that if anything happens during this meeting, he will be held liable.

NCN didn’t mind, we sat down and for the third time, VP securities excused us out. This time, it was like being accused as a national threat. They asked for our identity which we gave including our complimentary cards, we realized from them that we were being victimized for the fear that we might ask questions.

After few minutes of argument, though they know we weren’t going to mind their threat, they asked us to promise that if we get back, we won’t ask questions.

Read the conversation:

VP securities: Can I have your identity card?

NCN: Sure (handed over) What is the problem?

VP securities: We were told your network was not invited, so you have no right to be here.

NCN: You must be joking. If we don’t have rights to be here as a network, we have rights as Nigerians. Besides, we were invited

VP securities: Listen, we don’t want the hall to be tensed, your presence could tense it up, so we are doing what we think is best for everyone.

NCN: What’s going on here? There are other media in the hall and how can NCN tense up the hall?

VP securities: Promise us that if you get back in, you won’t ask questions.

NCN: Why should we promise that? Aren’t we supposed to ask questions in such occasions? And why is the embassy so scared of NCN, because he knows we know him too well or we might ask questions that might implicate him (Ambassador Rotimi)?

The time was far spent, and we knew VP Sambo was not going to stay long. So we decided to agree to their conditions.

Notwithstanding, they didn’t stop there, they asked us to sit with them to be sure that we won’t ask questions anyways, and that we refused. At the time we got back to the hall, the program was almost ended.

What we could not figure out was, why should an embassy be so scared of NCN? Because we don’t compromise our work, we don’t take bribe for publication, and we KNOW HIM and HIS WAYS?

Since we refused to submit questions to him to see, he excluded us from the meeting for the fear that we might ask questions that will jeopardize his office as he has told NCN before that we were after his office due to the previous questions we have asked.

The truth was, we weren't going to ask questions, we were too busy taking pictures, recording and taking down notes and there were numerous Nigerians who came for the intention of clarifying some issues. But the fear was already created in the ambassador's mind and he decided to use his diplomatic power to victim us.

He (Ambassador Rotimi) used one of his staff called Hamidu Ibrahim who was at the centre of the entire incident. Ambassador was too busy then he gave the mandate to Ibrahim who was controlling the securities to get us out. The most annoying part was that Ibrahim met us before the occasion started, we talked, we laughed, he never told us anything until the meeting started and he sent different securities to exclude us.

We intend to reach Prof. Viola regarding this issue, when we are done, we will update everyone of the outcome.

Remember Nigerians who support democracy, your feedback will be appreciated on NCN as well as Nairaland. We thank you for reading..

Note: Naija Center News didn't have problem with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, we were fully okay and was treated equally with other media around the globe. Whatever you read above happened at a separate meeting organized for VP Sambo and Professor Viola to meet with Nigerians residing in Sri Lanka.
PoliticsMy Father Is Not A Member Of Boko Haram, Kogi Lecturer's Daughter Debunked by naijacenter(op): 8:04pm On Nov 22, 2013
Summayya Muhammed, the daughter of the Kogi State University lecturer who was paraded by the Department of State Security Service, SSS, of having link with Boko Haram has denied the accusation as untrue.

According to the statement she sent to the media, she accused the SSS of planning such allegation to damage the image of her father and that of the family.

“The family categorically writes and states that the parading of Dr. Muhammad Nazeef Yunus, on the allegation as claimed by the SSS, was falsehood and a calculated attempt to damage his good reputation and image as a peaceful Islamic cleric.” Ms. Muhammad said

Mr. Nazeef is a lecturer at the Kogi State Univeristy, Arabic and Islamic studies department and was paraded by DSSS alongside with other four suspects on Thursday.

The embattled lecturer in tears, denied the allegation and accused the dreaded islamic sect, Boko Haram for framing him up due to the way he, through his preaching attack the activities of the sect.

The other four suspects accused Mr. Nazeef of being their leader, and added that they all trained in the sect's camp in Sambisa, Maiduguri, and that he is on a monthly salary of N50,000.

Summayya also promised to show tapes of her father's messages as a proof that her father always condemn the activities of Boko Haram.

“Dr. Nazeef is a strong condemner of the Boko Haram sect. His available records of his preaching have proven that he is not a member of the sect. Dr. Nazeef, as known by all other persons for his peace, has never been an advocate of the sect; as such the family strongly condemned in totality his parading by the SSS, even as he repeatedly denied having knowledge of his allegation.” She said

Summayya added that SSS lied about the location her father was arrested. According to her, SSS arrested her father at his Anguwan Rogo resident in Jos on the 29th of October with one of the suspects, Umar Musa before transferring him to Abuja instead of the claim that Mr. Nazeef was arrested at a mosque in Zuba, Abuja.

“The SSS after 21 days of the arrest shamelessly, through its spokesperson Ms. Marilyn Ogar, said they arrested him just three days ago, in a white mosque in Abuja.” She said

PoliticsPresident Jonathan's Speech At The 15th HIIC Meeting In London by naijacenter(op): 7:46pm On Nov 22, 2013
1. It is with great pleasure that I welcome our distinguished Council Members to the 15 th meeting of the Honorary International Investor Council (HIIC) in London, and in particular, His Excellency Mohammed Al Shaibani, the new member who is here with us for the first time.

2. His Excellency Al Shaibani is the Director General of the Ruler’s Court, Government of Dubai, and the CEO and Executive Director of the Investment Corporation of Dubai. We are glad to have him join us, and look forward to his contributions and insights at Council.

3. Dear Council Members, as we approach the end of 2013, it is only ideal that I begin this address first by thanking you all for your continued commitment to Nigeria. Our country is indeed honored to have friends and partners like you, with whom we can openly share ideas, and shape our agenda.

4. With every HIIC meeting I attend, I am always encouraged to see the quality of the debate, the frankness of the conversation, and the big things Nigeria can achieve. I am also sure you likewise are inspired by the vast potential and opportunities within our great country. Indeed at the HIIC, I can sincerely say that we are all in very good company. The investment of your time and effort in driving the HIIC is recognized, and on behalf of the Nigerian people, I say thank you.

5. This 15 th meeting builds on the last conversation we had in Abuja and begins to address the fundamental issues constraining competitiveness and investment in Nigeria. Competitiveness ultimately drives profitability, which is what investors are seeking worldwide. To be competitive, we must address long standing issues, and introduce bold and courageous reforms, regardless of short term political pressures. This is why my government has remained steadfast in making Nigeria the preferred location for investors to do business, because it is our only pathway to create jobs, generate wealth, and guarantee our security.

6. In building a truly competitive environment for business, we are addressing the fundamental issues such as internal security and power supply head-on. For the first time in Nigeria's 53 year history, we have successfully privatized the electric power industry.

7. We are bringing capital, technology, and operational excellence into the sector. As a result, 11 distribution companies, and four (4) generation companies have been privatized, realising over US$3 billion for Government. For Council’s information the assets were finally handed over on 1 st November, 2013.

8. I am delighted to inform you that investors are responding positively to the opportunities in the sector and we expect to see significant investments in the sector and across the value chain going forward. Ladies and Gentlemen, resolving the power sector alone, completely changes the paradigm on doing business in Nigeria, and we are satisfied with the progress made.

PoliticsRevealed! Esan North East Election Rigged By APC In Edo State - Video by naijacenter(op):
It has been revealed through a video that the last local government held in Esan North East of Edo State was nothing but a hoax.

This was revealed in a video that was recently uploaded on Youtube by Eddy Uwa.

Few people identify on the video are: Sam Oboh, Barr. Silver Ebare, others who seem to have been very vital in the success of the rigging.

Though the video audio was not too clear, but at the end, the committee discussed and resolved on a uniform story to be told in case they were arrested by the police, question by the judge or interviewed by the press after rigging the election.

The Commissioner, Barr. Silver Ebare, who came last commended their efforts on the individual roles they played, and also assured everyone who played part in the success of the rigging that they will all be taken care of.

In the video, Mr. Sam Oboh, the chairman of Esan North East, was seen saying that Kogi and Ebonyi was rigged by PDP and there was no way they could have allowed the PDPs to win in their own territory.

He said " I am happy, we are all happy that they (PDP and others) are lamenting, we are crying in Delta, we are crying in Kogi, we are crying in Ebonyi, we are crying in Kwara, should we cry in our own state again?"

The declaration of the winner, according to the people in the video showed that, it was a complete lie as the body that announced and declared the winner does not have the power to do so.

Initially, members of the PDP and some concern group have accused the Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole of rigging the election held on the 22nd October, 2013 in Esan North East of Edo State.

The LG election was a by-election for the positions of Chairman and Councillors for the council conducted by Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC)

According to previous investigations, the collation of the result was still going on under the supervision of the head of security agencies in Edo State, EDSIEC connive with Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to address a press conference in Benin City, and announced a fabricated result for an election that took place at Uromi

It was further discovered that the Chief Returning officer of EDSIEC sneaked out of his office in the afternoon by pretending that he was going to "collect something" but went to Benin City.

PoliticsOduah Slammed! Lawmakers Recommend 3-year Jail Term Over Bulletproof Cars by naijacenter(op): 8:32am On Nov 18, 2013
The panel set up to investigate the accusation levied against the Aviation minister, Stella Oduah, has carried out their findings with recommendations added.

According to the lawmakers, Princess Oduah forced the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to buy the bulletproof cars that cost N222m, contrary to the claim made by the minister.

They recommended that Oduah should face a three year jail term for spending public money recklessly without passing due process or waiting to be added in the budget, they also added additional N100,000 fine

Findings read “That the contract for the purchase of the cars was not listed in the budget by NCAA, the agency compelled by the minister to make the purchase, and was not listed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

“That spending public funds on unbudgeted projects attracts three years in jail and a fine of N100, 000 as stipulated by the ICPC Act.”

“The minister has not addressed why the NCAA paid a price tag that auto dealers in the US and UK described as ‘a rip-off’. It is a fact that each of the BMW cars should cost no more than $167,000 which is approximately N36 million.

Part of their revelations showed that Stella Oduah did not present NCAA request to FEC for approval and buying and paying later is against the extant laws of the federation.

It reads: “Aviation minister approved NCAA’s request to procure 55 operational vehicles valued at N564.665 million; there is no evidence to show that the Hon. Minister presented NCAA’s request to FEC for its approval. Further, the attempt to procure now and pay later is against the extant laws of the federation.”

Therefore, their recommendation is that “the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should review the continued engagement of the Hon. Minister for Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, having contravened the 2013 appropriation and approved revised thresholds by exceeding her approval limit of N100m with the purchase of 54 vehicles valued at N643m”.

PoliticsAnambra Governship Poll Attacked By Armed Robbers by naijacenter(op): 2:42pm On Nov 17, 2013
No fewer than 20 election officials in the Anambra governorship poll were attacked in the early hours of Sunday by armed robbery suspects along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway.

One of the officials, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that they were attacked at about 3am while returning from Ihiala after the election.

The electoral officer said they were rescued by soldiers who were covering them from behind.

According to him, the suspects stopped them, but on sighting the security vehicle trailing behind, they took to their heels.

“Some of us had already jumped out of the vehicle, and the timely intervention of the soldiers saved us.

“As soon as the robbers saw other vehicles behind us in a convoy, they escaped into the bush.

“We thank God for saving us. I wonder what would have happened to us, if there was no adequate security,’’ he said.

He said that none of the officials was hurt, neither did they lose any of their belongings in the incident.

PoliticsCommonwealth Success Threatened In Sri Lanka As Tamils Protest Before UK PM by naijacenter(op): 8:46am On Nov 16, 2013
We can't add video here please follow the link below for video of the scene

About 200 Tamil protesters on Thursday blocked the vehicle of David Cameron as he visited Jaffna, north of Sri Lanka to see the victims of the country’s during 30 years of war.

Despite the success recorded by Sri lanka government on the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government, CHOGM, the protest carried about by about 200 Tamils has sent another signal that there’s still anger over the 30 years of what the Sri Lanka government referred as ‘war against terrorism’

Mr. Cameron also visited the Uthavan daily newspaper where he gathered that one journalist is still missing and six have been killed. The Prime Minister was also shown bullet holes in the walls and printing press damaged by fire.

They added that many suffered beatings by thugs on masks with wielding iron bars surrounded by barbed wire. The Tamil journalist at the Uthavan daily newspaer accused the president, Mahinda Rajapaksa as responsible for the attacks.

David Cameroon also pointed out that he is the first Prime Minister to visit the north of Sri Lanka since 1948.

Mr Cameron also met the new chief minister of the northern province – former judge CV Vigneswaran of the Tamil National Alliance – at the library in the northern city of Jaffna.

The building is of huge symbolic importance to Tamils as it was rebuilt several times after being burned down in 1981 and repeatedly targeted.

India, Canada, Mauritian leaders have refused to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) as a sign to protest over human right but the Prime Minister who was also called to stay away by some Heads of Government refused saying he will better understand the issues by going there.

The UN demanded an international investigation into what they gathered that over 40,000 civilians have died in the final months of the regime’s 26-year fight with Tamil Tiger Separatists.

Sri Lanka president, Mr. Rajapaksa debunk the accusation that his military indiscriminately shoot at the fleeing Tamils Tigers – themselves a brutal guerrilla movement – were defeated, and allegations of battlefield executions and rapes.

The government has attempted a reconciliation with the north by regional elections and a commission to investigate disappearances of the Tamils during the war but the PM has said they do not go anywhere near far enough. (It’s obvious)

The bilateral meeting between Sri Lanka and UK might be jeopardized as the PM scheduled the meeting after his return from Jeffna. Being the basic condition for his appearance in the Commonwealth of Heads of Government Meeting, the PM took an aircraft to the North of Sri Lanka

Mr Cameron conceded that some people would not speak to him for fear of reprisals, “but that in the way will tell its own story”.

“If that’s the case, that will be a demonstration of the difficulties in terms of freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of movement – the key freedoms that we value.”

He has promised a “frank exchange of views” with Mr Rajapaksa over the “chilling” claims of war crimes and violations of human rights.

“There is the problem of human rights as we speak today: the people who have disappeared, the lack of free rights for journalists and a free press.

“But I think perhaps most important of all is the need for proper investigations to look into what happened at the end of this very long, appalling civil war.”

“I will be clear with the Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa: it’s time the appalling and chilling events in his country are investigated”

He has rejected Sri Lankan claims that he was showing a “colonialist” attitude.

“We are two sovereign governments. This is 2013, and we should have these sorts of frank conversations.”

PoliticsBaraje Resigns As Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) Chairman by naijacenter(op): 2:18pm On Nov 13, 2013
The National Chairman of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, yesterday resigned his position as Chairman, Nigeria Railway Corporation Governing Board to give him room and time to manage the nPDP adequately and avoid any insinuation or plot to use the appointment of his NRC Chairmanship to blackmail or embarrass him in future. According to him the struggle to emancipate and enthrone proper democracy in our polity is a task that must be won.

The decision was conveyed through a “Letter Of Gratitude And Resignation Of Appointment As Chairman, Nigeria Railway Corporation Governing Board” addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

The letter personally signed by Alhaji Baraje said: “I hasten to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, through your good office for the confidence he placed in my ability to have appointed me to such an exalted position as Chairman, Nigeria Railway Corporation.

“His Excellency, Mr. President, will recall that this appointment came from his discretion in allotting some positions to our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, it is no longer news that there is an ongoing disagreement in principle between some top stakeholders of our party of which I am among on the one hand and the current leadership of the party on the other. This quagmire has upturned my belief in the present leadership of our great party and has consequently made my continued stay as the Chairman, Nigeria Railway Corporation Governing Board uncomfortable.

“Realizing that the position of the Nigeria Railway Corporation Chairmanship was allocated to the party and of which I am supposed to symbolize, I would appreciate if your good office could please convey to His Excellency, Mr. President, of my intention to relinquish this position with immediate effect because I can no longer represent the interest of the party whose leadership I no longer believe in”.

PoliticsAn Open Letter To President Jonathan For Law On Free Medical Care For Old Peopl by naijacenter(op): 5:21pm On Oct 27, 2013
OPEN LETTER TO MR PRESIDENT ON CALL FOR EXECUTIVE BILL FOR A LAW ON FREE MEDICAL CARE FOR THE ELDERLY IN NIGERIA:

THROUGH:

THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
SHEHU SHAGARI COMPLEX THREE ARMS ZONE
CENTRAL AREA,
ABUJA

Your Excellency, first accept my sincere felicitation and congratulations on the occasion of our 53 Anniversary as a nation. At 53 Nigeria is a fully grown and matured nation that should ordinarily be a pride to all its sons and daughters.

My name is Habiba Abubakar, a United Nations Ambassador for Peace and Charity and the founder of Foundation for the Elderly and the Poor(EAP)a Non governmental , Non-denotable and Non profitable Charity Organisation, dedicated to Caring mainly for the aged and the poor in our society irrespective of their creed or tribe. We have in the last few years positively impacted on a good number of old and poor Nigerians in dire need.

Habiba Abubakar and the awardeeYour Excellency, I am greatly constrained to humbly write you this Letter of Appeal for an Affirmative Federal Action on behalf of the aged and poor in Nigeria having come into direct contact with the ever growing number of these category of Nigerians and conducted researches in the needs of these people.

However, I was more particularly appalled by a recent publication in the Guardian Newspaper of the United Kingdom which published a research finding on the best and worst countries to grow old and raise children. The research was part funded by the Bill and Melinda Foundation. Also in May this year the "The State of World Mothers Report" published another report on the well being of mothers and Children in 176 countries in the world. Not surprisingly, the two published reports found Nigeria "the worst place to grow old or raise a child".

Your excellency , if these published reports may be said o be biased against Nigeria and Nigerians, the following may best represent the true picture of our situation.

My NGO, EAP,received an email from one Monica Esther Egboke, a 19 year old Nigerian seeking for our support o settle the medical bills of her aged mother who is suffering from secondary stroke . Her story evokes the memory of so many underaged minors saddled with the responsibility of taking care of their aged parents or grandparents without any support from government or society. Most of them in desperation resort to all manner of vices including child prostitution or falling into the hands of organised crime to enable them discharge that responsibility. Our findings mostly from interactions with such desperate young Nigerians reveal that this scenario is on the increase especially in present day Nigeria where insecurity has taken over our lives.

Your Excellency, Monica's story is by no means the worst that we have handled. It is just the most recent. EAP is inundated on daily basis with a plethora of requests of such and other nature. Due to the number, we are only able to attend to the most urgent by our estimation.

Habiba Abubakar

What is most disheartening, your excellency, is the fact that as a fairly wealthy nation, Nigeria should fare better in these and other Spheres of Life.

Your Excellency, this brings me to the purpose of writing directly to your esteemed self. EAP wishes to solicit for an executive bill for a law that will make it mandatory for all arms of government, Federal, State and Local Governments to provide as a matter of right ,free and comprehensive medical care for all the Elderly directly under their jurisdiction.

Our appeal is that the Executive under your good self should sponsor and pursue such a bill until it becomes law.
Permit me, sir to commend all your efforts in this regard since you assumed the mantle of leadership of our great and beloved nation.

My NGO stands willing to partner with your administration in achieving our common goal of Caring for the Elderly and the most vulnerable.
Cc President of the Senate Mr David Mark,
Cc Honourable Mr Aminu Waziri Tambuwal

Please accept assurances of my highest Regards.

Sincirely Yours,
Habiba Abubakar,
Chairperson, Foundation the Elderly and the Poor.

PoliticsConfessions Of A Captured Boko Haram Member (HORRIBLE) by naijacenter(op): 8:22am On Oct 27, 2013
A 22-year-old Boko Haram member, Mustapha Ajimi (not his real name), who was captured by the security personnel during a shootout recently in Borno State, yesterday revealed that beneath Boko Haram’s so-called Jihad was nothing but a façade for crimes like robbery and wanton killings of innocent citizens to undermine the government of Nigeria.

Boko Haram sectsThe young man, who now walks on crutches after receiving a bullet injury during a recent attack in Damboa town of Borno State, said their leaders who coerced them to carry AK47 and other dangerous weapons to kill innocent citizens had never for once preached Islam to them.

“Any time we were running out of food supply in the bush, our leaders would assemble us and declare that we would be embarking on a mission for God and Islam,” he said. Then we would be handed AK47 rifles and RPGs to go and kill in targeted villages and towns,” he said. “‘Each time they declared an attack, I felt sick and terrified; so were most of my younger colleagues, but we dared not resist our leaders; they are deadly; our punishment for betrayal is to be slaughtered like animals.”

The acting commander of the 21 Armoured Brigade, under the 7 Division Maiduguri, Col. Ibrahim Yusuf, had obliged journalists’ request to speak with the suspect who was willing to talk about his deadly group.

Sipping water from a bottle served him by the soldiers at the Mai Malari Barracks, Maiduguri, the young man, an indigene of Borno State, who barely spoke good Hausa language, recalled how his brother, who had since been killed by soldiers in a shootout, conscripted him into the Boko Haram group about a year ago.

He begged that his face should not be shown in the media lest members of Boko Haram would go after his family members.

His story: “I live in Maiduguri with my parents. I suspected that my brother had something to do with Boko Haram, and, one day, I stumbled upon a rifle (AK47) he hid somewhere in our house. And when I confronted him, he warned me that, as a very senior member of Boko Haram, he would take my life if anyone found out about the gun and that my life was, from then, on the line unless I joined him as Boko Haram and work for the cause of Allah.

Technology MarketBlackberry Launches BB Messenger For Android, Iphones For Free by naijacenter(op): 8:24am On Oct 26, 2013
Blackberry reports more than 10 million downloads in 24 hours.

Blackberry Messenger, BBM, for iOS and Android got off to a flying start Tuesday, with BlackBerry reporting more than 10 million downloads during the free app’s first 24 hours of availability.

Blackberry messenger for downloadBlackberry Limited, who has been struggling financially, recently announced its intention to lay off a third of its workforce, adding that it expects to announce financial losses of almost a billion dollars for the June to August quarter, Reuters reports.

But despite BBM’s failed launch in September, 2013, Blackberry recorded an amazing success in the first 24 hours after resuming the launch of BBM for Android and iPhone.

The company’s executive vice president Andrew Bocking, took to the officialBlackBerry blog to thank customers, employees, and partners for their “enthusiasm and commitment” in getting BBM for iOS and Android off the ground, even if the process didn’t go as smoothly as he might have liked.

The rush to download the instant messaging app saw it shoot to the top of app charts in more than 75 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Indonesia and most of the Middle East, the executive said, adding, “We have also seen overwhelmingly positive reviews on Google Play and the App Store. In fact, BBM has earned 60,000 five-star reviews on Google Play from about 87,000 reviews.”

All that and the app isn’t even running at full throttle yet as Mr. Bocking promised that BBM features found on the BlackBerry 10 version of the app, including BBM Video, BBM Voice, and BBM Channels, would be coming to the iOS and Android versions “in the near future,” along with other new features.

Although over 10 million people have downloaded the app, a portion of those will be doing little more than simply staring expectantly at the BBM icon, with BlackBerry having opted for a little-by-little approach to activating new BBM accounts in an effort to ease the pressure on its servers.

After downloading BBM, the user is prompted to enter his/her email address and hold his/her place in line. Once you hit the front, BlackBerry sends an email to let you know the app is ready for use. Presumably this system will be dropped once demand begins to ease up, allowing downloaders to dive straight in.

Of course, with so much competition out there in the instant messaging space, there’s no guarantee BBM will become the app of choice for iOS and Android users, but the degree of early interest certainly shows people are keen to take it for a spin to see how it stacks up against the competition.

Have you downloaded the new BBM? How’s it looking for you?

Politics33 Reasons Why Southern Nigerians Are Foolish Than The Northerners by naijacenter(op): 8:12am On Oct 23, 2013
The North have ruled the country legally(democratically) and illegally (military) for 37 out of the 53 years. The South is very comfortable with this inequality.

Sadly, 80 per cent of Southerners who see this article will not read it!
Note: This article was not developed to ascribe to the entire Northern Nigeria the selfish antics and machination of a few individuals who belong to the region. It would be unfair to do that. Also, this article was developed not with the intention of causing incitement, but if it does – so f__king what?!

1. An average Northerner acquires a cheap transistor radio-set in order to gain political awareness from broadcasting structures such as BBC (Hausa Service), Radio Nigeria, etc. This practice has made the region the most politically-aware region in Nigeria. On the hand, an average Southerner, typically, acquires expensive smartphones equipped with FM radio receiving capability. Instead, they would rather listen to inane songs like “Your Waist”, “Skelewu”,“Ginger Your Swagger”, “NoGede”, etc.

2. Unlike the South, the North understands the importance of numbers in politics. This is why, by all strategic means necessary, the North ensures that they have a larger representation at the National Assembly.

3. Northerners don’t shout, scream, vent and speak “big grammar” to prove that they are politically intelligent on political programmes on TV and radio. Instead, they shout, scream, vent, kick, punch, taekwondo, etc on the floor of the National Assembly to promote a cause that is in their favour. The reverse is the case for the Southerners.

4. Southern graduates/job seekers consider the public sector (government institutions) an unfashionable place for employment. Meanwhile, the Northerners massively recruit and entrench themselves into the public sector and manipulate themselves up the ranks. While all these are going on, their southern brothers and sisters spend years languishing in the labour market for the elusive jobs in blue chip organizations. Yet, Southerners complain of marginalization in the public sector.

5. For some weird reasons, the South is always frightened when the North make political pronouncements. Even weirder – for some inexplicable reasons, Senators and House of Representative members from the South appear to be too timid to oppose their northern counterparts during legislative sessions.

6. According to the gospel of the North – the Northerners were born to rule. That is, leadership (of Nigeria) is their exclusive preserve. By extension, the Southerners were born to be led! Interestingly, certain actions of some Southerners support this belief.

7. The North has more (unrated) billionaires (in Dollars) than any region in Nigeria. For instance, a certain Alhaji Mai Deribe (an oil well licensee) would certainly laugh each time Forbes releases its ratings and his name is not listed.
