Business / Top African Startups To Look Out For In 2017??? by Naijamann(m): 11:00pm On Jan 18, 2017 |
Not many people around the globe have heard about the Africans when it comes to modern entrepreneurship or ‘techpreneurship’. The popular news from Africa is always negative; it’s always about war, corruption, famine, diseases and others. But now, other great news and stories from Africa are making it into the mainstream media. We have all heard about IROKOTV – dubbed as the African Netflix. It seems the continent of Africa is moving towards the right directions. The new year 2017 is going to be great for techpreneurs from the continent of Africa for so many reasons. First, the internet is becoming easily accessible even for the people in remote and rural areas of the continent. Also, the population of smartphone users continues to grow across the continent. This development alone can open windows of opportunity for young entrepreneurs to set up their lucrative business ideas. It’s surely going to be a great year because from South Africa to Egypt, and from Nigeria to Kenya, there are business opportunities waiting to be explored. Below are some of the African startups and inventions to look out for in 2017: [1] TRESS Tress is a community where users can discover and share their beautiful hairstyles. It’s a passionate community of black women from around the world sharing and discovering new and trending hairstyles. Put together by three brilliant African women – Priscilla Hazel, Esther Olatunde and Cassandra Sarfo, Tress is made for women to share ideas about hairstyles. Users share detailed info such as the exact hair products used, cost, and the location of the salon. ......................... [2] SteamaCo SteamaCo is an emerging-market focused IOT solutions provider, focusing on microgrids and asset management in remote areas. The company has a mission to provide electricity to people in rural areas who are not yet connected to the national grid. How does SteamaCo work? The company makes solar and battery micro-grids which can work for a whole village. They are small electricity generation and distribution systems that operate independently of larger grids. ......................... [3] BitPesa BitPesa is a mobile payment platform developed to help online workers such as web developers in Africa easily get paid. We all know popular payment systems such as PayPal are yet to enter African market. This makes payments to remote workers in Africa difficult. This is the gap BitPesa wanted to fill. It lets people outside the continent pay remote workers in Africa with ease. The company uses digital currency such as Bitcoin to notably lower the cost of remittances and SME business payments to and from sub-Saharan Africa. ......................... [4] Piggybank So many people in Africa do not save money or set aside some funds to meet unplanned challenges. However, the introduction of Piggybank will make it easy for people to save for such activities as travel, birthday celebration, wedding and others. Piggybank enables users to easily set a saving target. Then users will automatically save little amounts of money either daily, weekly or monthly directly to a debit card until they reach their target. ......................... [4] Printivo Based in Lagos, Printivo is the Nigeria’s leading online print shop and it was recently voted as the country’s most investable startup in 2016. The digital printing startup is on a mission to help Nigerian startups and SMEs easily print their business and marketing materials. The startup hopes to grow Nigeria’s multi-million dollars print market, which has had no credible online presence until now. http://www.onaplatterofgold.com/african-startups-to-watch/ |
Business / Why Successful Entrepreneurs And Rich People Don’t Think Like You? by Naijamann(m): 1:03am On Aug 26, 2013 |
Some people think highly successful entrepreneurs and rich people are aliens because of the ways they think and the natural ingenuity some of them possess. No, they are not aliens. They are just smarter than most of us. These are set of people that don’t think like most people think, and they tend to do things in their own challenging ways. Highly successful entrepreneurs and rich people are just like me and you but the only difference is the fact that they know how to smartly use their brains and skills as well their connections to make things happen for them. Success or being a successful entrepreneur is one of the sweetest things in life which not many people have been able to accomplished. Not many of the successful entrepreneurs were born with a big silver spoon in their mouth; they were once like you and me – individuals trying to make their dreams come through. How Successful Entrepreneurs And Rich People Think Successful entrepreneurs and rich people have some traits in common; they think positively and they see success as a reward for being persistently engaged in challenging and creative ideas. Successful entrepreneurs and rich people don’t think like average people. While average people keep thinking on how to survive, rich people think on growth and business expansion. Rich people favours knowledge over formal education Average people believe the road to riches is through doing masters and doctorates. But rich people are generally rich because they have made money selling a specific knowledge they have acquired. Rich people don't save their money While average people focus on saving, successful entrepreneurs and rich people don't like saving. Rich people don't believe in having their money sitting down somewhere under the watchful eyes of some people. They would rather put their money in investments to make more money than saving. But in contrast, average people usually miss big opportunities by trying to live frugally, while rich people constantly focus on how to earn the big bucks. Rich people have an action mentality You'll never see a rich person or successful entrepreneur lining up to play the lottery (even before they were rich). Average people are always waiting on someone else to help them get rich – the Lotto, Government, family, friend or spouse – but it only keeps them poor. Rich people take action and spend time solving problems. Rich people maintain positive attitude Most people’s principal philosophy in business is to ‘observe the masses and do the opposite’. Rich people and successful entrepreneurs are not looking to take the easy route and be part of the crowd, but alternatively, these are individuals that are willing to stand out and swim against the tide in order to get ahead. Attitude is a top principle for successful entrepreneurs. They know that innovation, confidence, conviction, passion and unquestioning belief in what they do are essential for success in business as these ingredients will ensure that they never stop swimming the second mile. While ordinary people usually have fears of being failed especially in business, successful entrepreneurs and rich people have already prepared for unexpected situations. They know things don’t always work out as planned, and when things become unpredictable, they are prepared to take risks. http://www.adeyemiadisa.com/featured/why-successful-entrepreneurs-and-rich-people-dont-think-like-you/ 1 Like |

TV/Movies / Re: IrokoTV by Naijamann(m): 10:46am On Mar 31, 2012 |
Freesia: They have a new site? what better place to advertise than NL IROKO are just greedy set of people, imagine they are claiming ownership of naija music video on youtube as well. They have created official youtube pages for them naija artists all because of google ads money they wanted to make. That's when I began to fukking hate them more and more because ordinary people can't post music on utube no more without being banned! Why claiming copy right ownership on naija music videos The reason why people put these music videos on youtube is for others to watch, appraise or review them without the occasional stupid google ads splashing across the videos. Iroko is not a record label or marketing company...so why banning others for uploading music videos |

Business / Facebook Painter Is ‘in Line For £126m’ by Naijamann(m): 12:05pm On Feb 04, 2012 |
Have you got the key to a successful future? Some people recorded success in their activities not only because they are extremely hard-working, but also because they think beyond today (present) and invest in tomorrow (future). Nowadays, it is very hard to see people thinking of tomorrow as most young people only “live for today“. On many occasions, I have heard people saying “let tomorrow takes care of itself“, I can’t just be bothered! But is it really true that tomorrow can take care of itself without you planning for it? Now let us read the short story of a man who decided to invest in tomorrow! Facebook painter is ‘in line for £126m’ A GRAFFITI artist who covered Facebook’s offices with murals in return for shares in the social network is getting ready for a reported £126million payday. David Choe’s once meagre share would be worth the colossal sum once the networking giant floats on the stock exchange. He swapped a pay packet of just a few thousand dollars for his stake in the firm seven years ago — despite thinking the idea was “ridiculous and pointless” at the time. But Facebook could be valued at up to £63billion ($100billion) this spring when it goes public on Wall St. And Choe, 35, will be one of at least 1,000 Facebook employees who will become millionaires overnight. Facebook Headquarters then Choe painted the Facebook HQ in Palo Alto, California, in 2005 and was offered the choice of cash or shares by then-president Sean Parker. Little did Choe know Facebook would eventually boast 845million users across the globe and is still growing. Its membership has swelled by 39 per cent in the past year alone. The site raked in £632million ($1billion) profits last year and hopes to crack China, where it is currently banned, to grow even more. http://www.adeyemiadisa.com/featured/key-to-a-successful-future-look-beyond-today-invest-in-tomorrow/ |

joomlaman: to me, this is the best response so far, I seriously laughed at some of the suggested websites/portfolios as most of them are either poorly designed or not even exist. I dont think there is a particular CMS designed for this purpose, it all depends on which of the CMSs you re very good at. I think wordpress particularly can do anything with plugins if you know your way round it! I am just learning wordpress myself, check out the guys @ http://www.rabiadesigns.co.uk/ they can help on this project! |

Politics / Re: Nigeria: Africa's Failed Asset - Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's Response by Naijamann(m): 2:02pm On Feb 09, 2011 |
This CBN Gov actually took his words out of my mine because this is the same stuff I have been saying about Nigeria politics. But the problem is that not all Nigerians think this way. I have been saying it before that the problem with Nigeria is not ethnic or tribe, it's the problem of greed, corruption, maladministration etc. From Borno to Delta states, from Lagos to Sokoto and from Rivers to Abuja, every part of Nigeria is being ruled by greed and corrupt individuals. Nigeria problem is not an Igbo man, Hausa/Fulani man, Tiv man, Ogboni man or Yoruba man, it's simply CORRUPTION! |

TV/Movies / Re: Youtube Cancels Top Nollywood Movie Channels. by Naijamann(m): 6:00pm On Dec 28, 2010 |
Mygoldie: Iroko partners is London-based, here is a copy of the message they put on my profile before they got my account banned: IrokoPartnersLtd has posted a comment on your profile: We are close to achieving our goal in that, we have managed to shut down most channels posting Nigerian movies on Youtube without Youtube validating our copyright documents. Soon we would be the number one, unopposed channel posting Nigerian Movies. People say it isnt possible. We are getting recognition and also getting paid legal fees from the producers/directors. Call it undemocratic, uncivilised, monopolistic or whatever, we would achieve our aim of being the best and everyone will continue to praise and acknowledge us. Soon we will be able to sell movies to them and get hold of their Visa Debit Cards and Credit Card to abuse. Thats our ultimate goal - Good job. |
TV/Movies / Re: Youtube Cancels Top Nollywood Movie Channels. by Naijamann(m): 4:18pm On Dec 28, 2010 |
Don't mind Iroko Partners or whatever they called themselves, they are the same people as NollywoodLove on youtube. I got an email from them telling me that they aimed to be the "only" channel on youtube that will be uploading nollywood movies, They claimed copyright on my videos while I was away on Christmas break and I got banned but I have already posted a counter claim and hopefully they can reopen my channel, Meanwhile you guys can watch oldschool movies at http://www.victolastores.co.uk/ just go on the video link when you get there.
