Education / Re: State Of Eric Moore Junior High School In Surulere, Lagos In 2017 by NaijaPropagato: 11:12pm On Apr 29
This is a rare exception. Most of the schools in densely populated areas in Lagos are well built with fresh coats of paint. This is not an accurate representation of schools in Mainland Lagos.
Politics / Re: US Trip Exposed Ignorance Of Northern Governors – Sule Lamido by NaijaPropagato: 11:02pm On Apr 29
It makes sense for them to travel abroad. Security belongs to everyone and not just the federal government. Security belongs to citizens also. It also makes sense because there is an ongoing debating about letting states have more power and control on security matters. Unlike Nigeria, US state governments have control over state police. The governors went to learn and network with people that have more experience on state police. It is wise to learn from people that have more experience on a subject. It shows wisdom to leverage on other people's experience inorder to avoid mistakes.

Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Electricity Deficit, World’s Largest -UK Envoy by NaijaPropagato: 2:23am On Oct 31, 2023
I heard it on NTA also that poverty is why there is not enough electricity because those things have to be maintained. It cost alot of money even if Government builds it can the ppl afford to pay to maintain it. Nigeria is not the only country with this problem. It is called the cycle of poverty because we need electricity to develop but without enough rich ppl to pay for it , it will not be sustainable in the long run.
Education / Re: Do Foreigners Come To Nigeria Universities To Study Like Nigerian Do? by NaijaPropagato: 8:14pm On Sep 28, 2023
They come for specialized programs like Post graduate studies. I heard that foreigners come to BUK for their specialized agricultural programs and I looked at the curriculum an saw that it was very good. They come because some of our programs are very good and it is cheaper to get an education than abroad that you end up owing alot of money in student loans. I have read alot of the text books and the information is very good.

In Lagos, in Surulere near the Sports Complex, they sell coconut with the water on Sundays. In Rivers State (Bonny), years ago, they had and still have coconut estates that they used to farm, dry the meat (Mockerel) and export to England before the focus shifted to Petroleum. These were villagers that farmed the coconut estates and traded with Europeans but after the petroleum boom, most of them left it and it is now government property.
Agriculture / Re: Duck Farming: Let's Journey Together by NaijaPropagato: 7:10am On Apr 07, 2023
I farm ducks. They sell ducks in many markets in Lagos and Rivers State. You can check online farm sites to buy them, the market or ask around for duck farmers to get starter ducks. It is more expensive than chicken. It is sweeter. You can sell live, roast or fry and sell yourself or supply restaurants or companies or market it directly to customers. You can buy a large shallow basin in the market 2k to 3k or several and fill with water for your ducks to dip in and they will be fine. Yes, they eat bitter leaf, paw paw, water melon, fruits and alot of leaves. They can eat the shaft of corn, garri and worms. Hygiene is important for them. Change their water everyday and don't let their food go bad especially for the young ones. Their most fragile period is when they are young but after that their survival rate is high. To get them to produce more eggs, you need to increase their protein intake by giving them moringa leaves, fish head or crayfish or left over protein or grounded up bones. They can lay up to 25 eggs per cycle but that depends on how God wants to bless you and I believe they are ready to reproduce again after 3 months of giving birth.
You should start with adults and not children because they need their mothers to help them at the early stage. It is better to start with one adult male and one adult female. The male can be aggressive and as your farm grows, it is better to have a higher female to male ratio. Don't sell your females for business but sell the males because you don't need that many males to grow a farm. The males can cause more stress managing as they are territorial.
Agriculture / Jathropha Plant by NaijaPropagato: 1:22pm On Feb 17, 2023
Nigerians should start growing Jathropha plants for personal use and commercial purposes. Other African countries have Commercial Jathropha farms that they use to earn foreign reserves. Despite the past failures in Nigeria, we should still try to cultivate it.

Ivory Coast is growing oil-rich jatropha plants and plans to make biofuels at home. Some cocoa and coffee farmers are growing jatropha on previously unused land, selling the seeds to Indian and Chinese buyers.

This is from an article from SunNews

Farming in Nigeria has become a serious business, but there are some cash crops that are still being neglected, though they can generate huge foreign exchange for both government and farmers.

One of such cash crops is Jatropha, which farmers call gold plant because of its value-chain which has potential to generating about N1.5 trillion from both local and international market and solves the problem of poverty in Nigeria.

Jatropha may sound new to some people but the crop has been around for years although its huge potential is yet to be discovered and have remained untapped in the country. One beautiful thing about the plant is that it could reduce importation of kerosene and diesel which could save foreign exchange and payment of petroleum subsidy, as the Jatropha diesel is now a healthy source of aviation fuel in the world. The plant can survive for eight months without water and has a life lifespan of 50 years
Daily Sun learnt that farmers who are committed to the cultivation of Jatropha plant are abandoning their farms for other crops because they are not getting support after investing heavily in the plantation, following government abandonment of initiative so far there has been no support or incentives to those farmers. Farmers said the movement for the production of biofuel as an alternative source of power was initiated during the Goodluck Jonathan administration but was abandoned along the line.

However, the gold plant has potential to create wealth through the establishment of small scale industries. For instance, from the seed alone one can get biodiesel, bio-kerosene, bio-petrol, glycerol and even organic fertiliser from the cake. The cake could also be used to generate electricity, animal feeds, and poultry feeds. It can be used to produce insecticide and also produce candle from the latex.

Farmers who want to venture into farming of Jatropha have no reason to fear because the plant can survive anywhere and does not require any particular soil type for growth. In Nigeria, farmers intercrop Jatropha with other plants like maize and cassava in between the Jatropha trees, so farmers do not have to look for another land to plant.

The market for bio-diesel and organic fertiliser is growing but there are not enough raw materials to feed the growth, which creates emerging market for Nigeria, as there are currently commercial plantations of Jatropha plants in Ghana, Mali, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa. Jatropha plant is widely found in Nigeria and the local names are botuje pupa, lapalapa pupa, okpokporu, sherigun, among others.

Jatropha plant has been identified as a very important source of bio-fuels after palm oil. It had been used as bio-diesel and organic fertiliser in several European, Asian and African countries.
