Look at all these apps just for networking and communicating. Its crazy out here ~> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites |
Sibrah: ^^^Nice response. What about the less robust apps like games Utility and books?Always understand that it is one thing for your app to be popular and its another thing for your app to make money for you. Yeah you can make money off of game apps, but it will have to be either: A. In-App/Game Purchasing B. Mobile Advertising C. Paid App For A & B to make money for you, you will have to alot of traffic or great marketing. GROWTH HACKING, is the key. Once your app becomes popular, then it becomes easier to make money from it, but remember that once your app becomes number one, there are millions of app developers around the world that will try to copy what u did. Look at Flappy Birds. 2048. As far as C. unless your game is really designed well, most people wouldn't pay for it in the first place, so more than likely, if your app doesn't make it in A or B, it probably won't make C. As far as books, lets be honest. How many people across the internet actually spend time on the internet reading books, talk less of paying for them? There are so many free books on the internet but people will rather socialize and communicate with each other, which is where the money is at but like I said the competition is fierce. This link ~>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_virtual_communities says it all. |
Sibrah: I like to know. I read one review online where they put average income at $6000 per app as average across IOS, Android, and BlackBerry appstore. Which Language is best for development on the popular platforms out there? You seem to be asking 2 different questions. a. How much is the reward? b. What programming language is the best? For your 1st question, I'll be honest and say that not many App Developers are making money on their own. I'll think many of them are making money by building apps or websites for other people and companies, but as far as submitting their app on App Stores and selling, not many of them are making it and that is because the competition is fierce. What usually happens is once a new idea comes into town, everybody copies and clones it and before you know it, that idea becomes saturated. I think the ones that get downloads the most, usually have more marketing connections and more marketing skills and thus people learn about it more. Even before YouTube, there were a thousand video hosting sites. B4 Instagram, there were many photosharing apps but Facebook bought Instagram. Then came SnapChat. Blink. SnapChat to me seems more like a real product but Instagram was bought by Facebook, because the owners were cool with each other. Then when SnapChat came around, Facebook felt threatened. Think about it. Facebook bought Instagram for 1 billion dollars but wanted to buy SnapChat for 3-4 billion dollars. When SnapChat rejected the idea, Facebook decided to make their own version, but it didn't do to good in the market. For your 2nd question, I'd say for a quick app or short term, you can use HTML, CSS, JS (and with PhoneGap) you can make a good app (and with good marketing skills) make something from it but for a long term or long lasting app, since Androids are more open source and cheaper than iOS products, then Android will be the way to go which depends on the Java programming language. BB also depends on Java but BB is no longer reigning like before. Like Java is a good universal programming language, since it is used in Desktop, Mobile & Web Apps, along with embedded devices. Im not too sure but I think feature phones also can run Java Apps. Still, everybody has their differences and opinion and I've just told u mine. |
There is often spirited discussion and debate about the differences between Programmers, Hackers, and Developers. Most descriptions I’ve seen are flawed in at least one serious way, so I provide below my preferred—and I hope more accurate and elegant—definitions: A Programmer is someone who can solve problems by by manipulating computer code. They can have a wide range of skill levels—from just being “ok” with basic scripting to being an absolute sorcerer with any language. A Hacker is someone who makes things. In this context, it’s someone who makes things by programming computers. This is the original, and purest definition of the term, i.e., that you have an idea and you “hack” something together to make it work. It also applies to people who modify things to significantly change their functionality, but less so. A Developer is a formally trained programmer. They don’t just solve problems or create things, but do so in accordance with a set of design and implementation principles. These include things like performance, maintainability, scale, robustness, and (ideally) security. Link ~> http://danielmiessler.com/study/programmer_hacker_developer/

Today we released Firefox 31 and it offers a couple of new features that help HTML5 game developers to code and debug sophisticated games. In addition Mozilla blogged about the first commercial games leveraging asm.js, Dungeon Defenders Eternity and Cloud Raiders both of which were cross-compiled in to JavaScript using the Emscripten compiler. Games like these show that HTML5 is ready as a game platform. If you are interested in working with Emscripten you can get more information at the main Emscripten wiki or grab the code on the github page. Another good resource is the getting started with Emscripten tutorial on MDN. If you are wondering about the performance of asm.js, read asm.js performance improvements in the latest version of Firefox make games fly! for details. In this post we’ll introduce you to some of the resources built by Mozillians that allow you to code and debug HTML5 based games. This list is not exhaustive and we appreciate feedback on any valuable resources that would help in this arena. Don’t be shy and tell us about them in the comments. emmyw: For real? What part? The numbers or question? |
tempem: I don't think this is factual... 'cause with the era of Techno and other chinese brands, peeps surfs the 'net more frequent.Thank you for your reply but how frequently? Nairaland has a max of about 5,000 online daily. Also if people are surfing the net, where are they going? What apps are they using? What do they go on the net for? |
This tutorial will guide you through building a fully functional instant messaging application using the Sinch Android SDK. For better or worse, apps are now an integral part of our lives and will remain so for the foreseeable future. After all, nearly 60 percent of American adults own smartphones, and more than 40 percent of them own tablets. We can reasonably expect that both of these numbers will increase as technology evolves and prices come down even further. There are over 1 million apps in both the Google Play Store and the App Store, so it follows that there is certainly a lot of opportunity to make money playing the app game. But just how do you conceive and execute the next million-dollar app? Make Sure Your App Fills Time When Angry Birds came out, smartphones and tablets were relatively new devices. People weren’t necessarily all that familiar with how to use them, but they were drawn to them nonetheless. angry_user_ticket Enter Angry Birds, the ultimate time killer. A simple concept, the game was so addicting that seemingly everyone who had an iPhone was playing it. Easy to play, the game also had different levels of difficulty. The true addicts—yes, I’m talking to you—weren’t satisfied until they collected three stars in every level and found all the golden eggs. Unfortunately, it’s safe to say that your app is probably not going to be the next Angry Birds. But by making something that’s intuitive, fast and fun, you’ve got three characteristics of a million-dollar app right there. Make Sure Your App Fills a Need Nobody wants an app that tells them when you, the creator of the app, needs to do laundry, for example. When conceiving a million-dollar app idea, the most important thing to do is to focus on something that really provides a very tangible utility to your users. For example, recent research indicates that the average U.S. household has more than $15,000 of debt. That’s in addition to average mortgages of $154,000 and student loan debt of $33,000. Taken together, that’s over $200,000 that the average American family finds itself in the hole. Debt, obviously, is a very pressing issue for many American families. So why not craft an app that will help them figure out areas where they might be eligible for debt relief? These days, people don’t have all that much time. If you could figure out a way to help them consolidate their debt in order to reduce interest rates or even eliminate some of the payments they need to make, that would be a surefire way to an app gaining some traction. Flesh-Out Half-Baked Ideas Virtually all of the world’s greatest inventions have been at least partially influenced by previous inventions. Think about it: Would we have smartphones today if it weren’t for Alexander Graham Bell? iphone-37856_150 With this in mind, you might want to consider perusing various app stores to find ideas that might inspire you. Maybe one programmer’s app seems like a good idea, but it’s an idea that is half-baked. Who knows? After studying such apps, you could very well conceive of a simple way to make the app that much better. So explore what inspires you and see if you can think of ways to improve upon that creation. Remember, the fact that someone else had the idea and built an app around it shows that there is at least a modicum of interest there. You might be able to turn that slight interest into a viral app. Above all else, it’s important to remember that it’s not easy to create a million-dollar app. But you can still create a very successful one. Patience is a virtue, and your success might not come overnight. It also might not come on your first, second or even third attempt. But stick to it. If it’s your calling and you believe in yourself, one day you will succeed. And all of that work will be worth it.

To quote William Ting‘s earlier answer: “JavaScript will stay relevant as long as people use the internet.” 1. So, JavaScript will be relevant forever. 2. JavaScript runs in other environments, outside of browsers, and can be compiled from a wide array of programming languages. With the maturity and robustness of mobile frameworks like PhoneGap and end-to-end implementations like Node, JavaScript will be used more and more often, in more and more contexts. So, my vote is—wait for it—JavaScript. Not convinced? JavaScript is the #1 most-used language on GitHub, and this trend is only going to increase: http://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2014/07/14/what-is-the-most-valuable-programming-language-to-know-for-the-future-and-why/
