A gang in the Ketu area of Lagos State has tortured to death a 68-year-old man, Nasirudeen Ajawesola, for allegedly hitting a resident of the area with a fetish ring.

It was gathered that the resident, who could not be identified as of press time, subsequently fell unconscious. The incident happened on Osokoya Street, Ketu.The police were, however, able to apprehend a member of the group, Abiola Ogunmola, who was the elder brother of the resident.

Punch Metro gathered that on the fateful day, the deceased’s first son, a vulcaniser, had ran home to call his father to report that he was being forced to participate in a community work going on in the area.

When Ajawesola arrived at the scene, an argument was said to have started, which led to a fight.


In the ensuing confusion, Ajawesola allegedly slapped the brother of the suspect with a fetish ring.

The victim was said to have fallen down and became unconscious.

Our correspondent was told that the suspect insisted that Ajawesola must revive his brother, and when he could not, Ogunmola and his gang took him into custody.

They were said to have tortured him to death.Policemen from the Ketu division were, however, able to apprehend only 30-year-old Ogunmola, while other members of the gang fled.

The police said he confessed to the crime, though no exhibit was recovered from him.

He was arraigned on Thursday before the Ebute Meta Magistrate’s court on two counts of murder.

A man suspected of being behind the manufacture of explosives used in a series of Boko Haram suicide attacks has been arrested in Yobe.

A senior police officer who was involved in the Sunday arrest told AFP on Tuesday that, the man, identified only as Ba’na, was held in the Arikime area of Potiskum after several weeks of surveillance.

Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe State, has been hit by a wave of bombings in recent months, including a suicide attack on a secondary school in November 10 in which 58 people were killed.

On January 18, at least four people died in an attack on a bus station, while the previous weekend two women wearing suicide vests killed six people at a market and two died in a car bombing outside a police station.

The police officer, who asked not to be identified because he is not authorised to speak to the media, said Ba’na was in his mid-thirties and had admitted making the bombs.

She 9-months pregnant and epileptic, and had apparently fallen to the floor in the midst of a seizure
(CNN)Calise Manning is being called a hero for helping her pregnant mother and calling 911 operators in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

"She's shaking and she's having a baby," Calise tells a dispatcher in 911 audio obtained by CNN affiliate WWMT. "My mom is really pregnant and she's having a boy and she really needs help."



Her mother Centerria Manning, who was 9-months pregnant and epileptic, had apparently fallen to the floor in the midst of a seizure on Wednesday. She said they had practiced what to do in an emergency.

"I was so proud of her, because we practiced and I teach her because I am epileptic," Manning said. "I (taught) her the address and my full name and things like that, and how to dial 911." Her fiancée was at work at the time.

In a lighter moment during the nearly 7 1/2 minute call, a dispatcher asks Calise "How old are you honey?" Calise responds, "four," before adding an important detail. "Yes, and I'm almost getting bigger."

The mother was taken to the hospital where her healthy baby brother, TJ Manning, was born Friday morning.

Wearing an "I'm the Big Sister" T-shirt, Calise told the WWMT reporter at the hospital "It was really good to ride in the ambulance with mom."

The dispatcher who handled the call told the station that she's recommending Calise get an award for being calm in a scary situation.

Nissan announced on Saturday thaNissan recalls over 52,000 vehicles for faulty air bags that 'explode and send sharp metal shards directly at passengers'

it is recalling more than 52,000 vehicles for passenger air bags that can explode with too much force and send shards of metal into the passenger compartment.

The vehicles have air bag systems made by troubled Japanese supplier Takata Corp. The Nissan recalls are among nearly 8 million others made by 10 automakers, mainly in Southern high-humidity states, over the Takata air bags.

The recall affects the Infiniti FX35 and FX45 from 2003 to 2005, Infiniti I35 from 2003 and 2004 and Infiniti M35 and M45 from 2006. Also affected are Nissan Pathfinders from 2003 and 2004 and Nissan Sentras from 2004 to 2006.

In total, 52,738 vehicles are involved.

The newly recalled vehicles were sold or registered in 12 high-humidity states and territories. The humidity can cause the air bag propellant to burn too fast and potentially blow apart the metal canisters. The problem has been linked to four deaths.

Affected states and territories include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas and the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan, Guam and American Samoa.

The Sudanese ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Tagelsir Ali, has died. The Media Advisor to the Sudanese embassy in Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Abdulrahman, who confirmed his death told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that Dr Ali died in the early hours of today October 24th at the National Hospital, Abuja where he was being treated from malaria.
“He had malaria. There were some complications and he passed away around 1 a.m. early this morning. There is a Presidential jet coming by 5 p.m. to take the remains to Sudan for burial. He was 66 years old. He loved working in Nigeria and had zeal to develop the bilateral relationship between Sudan and Nigeria and was able to stretch himself very well,” Abdulrahman said. Mount Ontake, Japan (CNN) -- At least 31 people are presumed dead after rescuers found them showing no signs of life Sunday near the summit of a Japanese volcano that started erupting a day earlier.

Police said the people were in a state of "cardiac arrest," meaning that they were discovered without a pulse and weren't breathing but hadn't been declared dead by a doctor.

A coroner confirmed the first four deaths Sunday.

Rescue teams had begun searching Sunday for dozens of climbers who were caught by the sudden eruption of Mount Ontake.

The volcano in central Japan unleashed a huge cloud of ash late Saturday morning that billowed down the mountainside and engulfed hikers in its path. Witnesses described hearing a sound like thunder when the eruption began.

The exact number of people unaccounted for was unclear, as officials were uncertain how many had already made it off the mountain.

Do you have time to hang out with friends?

No, you know the nature of our job, traveling all around, moving from one film location to another, it has not been easy. Even to go to gym a times, seems to be difficult due to our time- taking career and that has been one of the major challenges involved in acting.

How did you come by the name: Ajoke asewo tore Mecca (Ajoke, the prostitute who went to Mecca)?

Oga Belo, my mentor, brought the name to limelight. I could remember I was still a civil servant when he called me to feature in the movie and played the character of a wayward woman, Ajoke Asewo tore Mecca” and since then people have been calling me by the name.

Aren’t you embarrassed by the name?

Do I have a choice? Initially I wanted to decline it, but the more I tried, the more people called the name, even when I went to Jerusalem, my fellow Nigerian pilgrims still addressed me by the name. Some even changed it to Asewo tore Jerusalem. But now, I am flying with the name to the extent that I make it known to people everywhere that I am the only international Asewo with a NAFDAC number.(Smiles)

The name has rather brought me money and fame, you know what?

My people know me to be a respectful, reliable and God -fearing mother. It was just a role I played.

We hear you are now a politician.

Yes I am now a politician, not that I am neglecting acting for politics, it’s just that my people from Osun State sent for me to represent my community, even I was invited by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to partake in the development of my state.

You know when you are good in any of your chosen career; people will appreciate your effort.

But you said acting doesn’t allow you to hang out with friends, so how would create time to serve the people of Osun?

Hmmm, I think I just have to put some things in order to make it work, that’s the only way I could pay my people back, because without them, there would have been no me. My fans always boost my morale and this keeps me going.

What’s the biggest challenge being a celebrity?

The major point is that your freedom is restricted as soon as you become a public figure, there are so many things you would have loved to do as a normal person, but being a celebrity you need to be careful because all eyes are on you, especially from the press.

If you were given an opportunity to change anything in the movie industry, what would that be?

Firstly, I would stop multiple productions and ban indecent home videos. I would love to abide by our formal rules, which stipulates that not more than five films should be produced per month. Secondly, I would adjust our ladies’ mode of dressing.

Advice to the up-coming artistes

Be focused and put your trust in God, though distraction will surely show its ugly face, but shun it and keep moving.

According to Senator Mark, the decision as to whether or not to ban the consumption of the product should be thrown to the public domain for the people of Nigeria to decide.

The Senate President, who acknowledged that both sides of the argument were compelling, held that, “that decision should be left for the people of Nigeria to make when the bill goes to the public hearing.”

Meanwhile, the bill as proposed by Okowa, seeks to provide a legal framework for the regulation and control of production, manufacture, sale, labeling, advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco and tobacco products in Nigeria.

It was also about regulating and controlling the use of tobacco and exposure to tobacco smoke in order to protect the health of the Nigerian public.

The lawmaker clarified that the bill does not prohibit the manufacture, production, distribution or commercialization of tobacco products, instead it seeks to regulate tobacco consumption to protect the right of health and life of consumers and non-smokers.

According to him, “the right to commerce and economic freedom must be balanced with citizens’ right to health, life, information and security.”

While observing that smoking was a habit which is difficult to quit, Okowa stated that, “regulation becomes necessary, because there is a conflict of interest between government’s role to protect public health and the goals of the tobacco industry to increase tobacco use and its profits.”

Some of the statistics he used in supporting the bill included the fact that tobacco use was the leading cause of preventable death globally, even as tobacco use kills nearly six million people annually.
