All I Have is My Voice, I Should Not Be Unfairly Targeted For Using It: RINU ODUALA

A few days ago, I turned 22. I am part of a generation of Nigerians who have lived most of their adult lives under ‘democratic’ rule and yet, I wake up this morning feeling there is no difference between the Nigeria I grew up in, and the Nigeria my parents grew up in. The sacrifices of the democrats who bravely stood on the June 12 mandate to bring our democracy to life seem to be in vain. Ironically, many of who are serving in this government and ruling party.

Everywhere I turn, I am told that I should be ‘grateful’ for a democracy that lives were lost, I should be thankful that I have a voice and I can speak up for myself and my peers. But how can I be grateful when young men and women disappear every day, some killed recklessly without cause, while others get scarred for life—physically, emotionally, or both.

EndSars: Don’t Be an Instrument of Destruction

When we began to protest, it was because young Nigerians decided to speak up.

We spoke up - not because we wanted to overthrow the government but because we wanted the police to stop killing us. We did not carry arms, or incite any insurrection. Our only weapon was peaceful protest enshrined in Section 40 of our 1999 Constitution. At every point we maintained calm and educated our followers - reiterating throughout the protests that we were not there to fight the government but to ask for change and to follow through to make sure that change was effected.

We believed that somehow we would be spared from the systemic violence and breakdown of social order, the direct result of the government’s actions. Unfortunately we were mistaken.

#EndSars: Police is Now The Sacrificial Lamb -Inspector Adeleke and Ojogbon Tope Aladejobi

I was nominated to receive donations to the EndSARS cause by Nigerians at home and abroad who felt helpless to personally protest but believed they could make a difference through financial sacrifices. Such was the passion of average Nigerians to contribute how best they can to the #EndSARS cause, who sent in what they could sacrifice towards the cause. Some people even donated ₦500, which I strongly believe meant a lot to them, as it could have been all they could spare towards the cause. To have their motives behind their sacrificial efforts questioned is disheartening. The funds in question here also includes some of my personal hard earned money of over N200,000 naira. These funds were earmarked for disbursement towards the medical bills of injured protesters.

Celebrities / History Of Efunsetan Aniwura by Nairablink(m): 9:32am On Nov 09, 2020
Chief Efunsetan Aniwura was the daughter of an Egba farmer, Ogunrin, a native of Egba Oke-Ona. She rose to become the Iyalode of Ibadan. She was the second iyalode in Ibadan. She was a rich, famous and powerful woman with lots of slaves. Around 1850, worried by the spread of war and combat in the Yoruba country, she introduced military training to the slaves. She was said to have had her own military training in urban and guerrilla warfare after which she requested that the same training be impacted on her slaves.

Efunsetan is known as a famous trader and farmer who helped the Yoruba economy. Her slaves mainly worked in the vast farmland. They produced cash crops, cotton, groundnuts, maize and beef. She was said to be in possession of a vast dairy farm that could feed the entire Yorubaland and beyond. She traded up to Ghana and the Hausa country and even exported her produce to Europe.

Although one of the richest person in Yorubaland, Efunsetan had her own pains and anguish. She had no child as her only daughter died in 1860 during child birth. Now, having lost her only daughter, she went into recluse and became suspicious of life and living. She started to ignore all the gods and stopped worshiping them wondering why she should lose her only daughter. Because of the pain of not having a child of her own she ordered that no one among her slaves must marry or have sex within and none of the girls must conceive. When one of the slaves broke the law. She ordered that the woman be executed. No doubt that she carried out outrageous order of execution, due to this act, the Aare ordered that she be brought to justice.

Celebrities / Solidarity Greetings To All The Lagos State Youth -akanbi Ade Saheed by Nairablink(m): 10:19pm On Oct 27, 2020
DEAR LAGOS YOUTH,

Solidarity greetings to you at this crucial time.

There is no denial that our voice was not only heard vociferously, but the most vocal in the campaign against Police brutality, *#EndSARS* and the call for Nigeria police reforms in its entirety, before the unscrupulous ones leveraged our universally supported just cause to carry out their heinous acts of looting, arson, robbery, maiming, jailbreak, killing and other condemnable criminal acts.

It will be an understatement by just describing the struggle as a big success before the highjack without mentioning the well coordinated pattern, peaceful demonstration, unity, the indivisible alutaristic spirit adopted, and massive support (home and abroad) that characterized the *#EndSARS* protest across board, and particularly the Lekki Toll Gate spot before the intrusion of yet to be identified soldiers. Our sincere condolences go to those who lost loved ones in all parts of the country including the security agents.
May their souls rest in peace (Amen). They are the heroes and heroines of the successes achieved so far.

However, I beseech us to pick solace on the assurance from our dear Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu that perpetrators will be brought to book. This has been demonstrated by the constitution of the judicial panel of inquiry which includes three people from our constituency (The Youth) namely; *Rinu Oduala, Majekodunmi Temitope and Lucas Koyejo.

The committee has begun sitting, which will run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10am-4pm at the Lagos Court of Arbitration, 1A Remi Olowude Street, Maruwa Round about, Lekki Epe Expressway, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

We are all enjoined to furnish the committee with necessary information that will assist them in serving us justice at the end of their duties and for the sake of the fallen heroes and ultimately foreclose the #EndSARS* Struggle.

On the part Government, as exhibited in the appointment made so far which is a distant departure from the past where young people now forms the fulcrum of this administration. The youth friendly Governor of Lagos State has taken the concerns and agitations of youth beyond the #EndSARS crises, and with the complementary effort of ministry of youth and social Development led by the experienced and expertise of the current Commissioner for Youth with series of engaging/appealing initiatives and programs where youth complains, agitations and grieviances can be channelled without resorting to crises.

The SSA on Youth Development, Lagos State who is barely one month in office sees the recent development as a wake up call and has highlighted a series of initiatives that will robustly engage and involve the youth in business of governance and consequently eliminate or reduce youth agitations.

LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State Government has today condemned the vandalization of the warehouse at Mazamaza housing the food palliative packages donated to the State government by the Private Sector Coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID) group.

The State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on September 22nd 2020 formally taken receipt of the food palliatives from the CACOVID team meant for distribution to the indigent.

The Government notes that the warehouse in question is not State owned and its usage was made available to the CaCOVID group. The State Government had been allowed to commence rebagging of food items allotted to it from the quantities meant for South West States.

The rebagging was being done to account for each beneficiary receipt, as was required and monitored by the CACOVID team.

The distribution was on-going but had to be halted due to protests, before the invasion of the warehouse today.

For effective distribution of the food palliatives, groups such as Transport Unions, Ethnic Groups, Religious Associations, Artisans and Tradesmen Association, Marketmen and Women Association, People Living with Disabilities, Orphanages and Old Peoples’ Homes among others were being used as distribution channels to their members.

The State Government however regrets the invasion of the warehouse and appreciate the support offered by the CACOVID group to the citizenry of Lagos.

Celebrities / Lagosians React As Babajide Sanwoolu Declared Curfew In The State by Nairablink(m): 7:09pm On Oct 20, 2020
Babajide Sanwoolu:

Watching these videos is a major heartbreak for me personally and as Governor, I cannot watch as arsonists, hoodlums and anarchists continue to hide under the #EndSars protest to unleash mayhem on the State and wantonly disrupt citizens lives and property.

#EndSars: Police is Now The Sacrificial Lamb -Inspector Adeleke and Ojogbon Tope Aladejobi

Imposing this curfew was difficult, especially as we have just returned from a COVID19 required lockdown. This curfew will allow security officials to immediately restore order to the state, arrest thugs and miscreants that have disrupted the peace.

Peaceful protesters and residents of Lagos should obey the curfew and stay in their homes to allow our security forces take immediate action to de-escalate all the issues of violence occurring at this time.

Reactions:

POLICE IS NOW THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB

Wear police uniform today, you will know how terrible and difficult it is for police to operate in corrupt society like ours.

How many of those protesting against the police ever reported his or her husband, wife, child, brother, sister etc. to the police if they committed crime and insisted that they should be punished according to law?

Instead, whenever their brethren is arrested for certain offences, they will do anything to secure his or her release, legally or otherwise. Who is now the problem, police or society?

He who is without sin should cast the first stone. It is one of the societal norms that whenever a DPO is posted to a station, elders of such community will visit the DPO and demand cooperation. You would later realized that such cooperation means to compromise ethics of the profession.

If DPO refused to render such cooperation and insisted that the right thing must be done. Elders will now mobilize themselves, visit the command CP and demand for removal of such DPO, on ground that the DPO is not respecting them.

DPO will now loose the seat because he or she refused to compromise standard. For any DPO to enjoy long stay and cordial relationship with the host community. He must dance to the tune of the elders of that community, who might demand the release of suspects illegally.

Police finds it difficult if not impossible to discharge their duty as specifies by the law, due to the corrupt environment in which they operate. Interruptions from top to bottom in the cases under investigation. Sometimes, an officer must compromise to save his or her job, even to remain alive.

Most Nigerians engage in dubious act and one form of corruption or the other. Majority of them are fraudsters in their offices, businesses, relationship with others etc. I challenge those protesting against police, let one person come out and declare that he or she has never harm Nigerians.

It is pathetic to see that Yahoo boys, cultists, arm robbers, kidnappers etc. who harm Nigerians more, are the ones spearheading protest against police.

People should rather appreciate police officers. They risk their lives to protect you, with poor welfare and working condition. Their chicken salary hardly feeds a senator's Dog in a month. Hardly a week runs out without hearing that a police officer loose his or her life while on duty.

Those who think police officers are the bad boys missed the road. The problem is the entire system. Police cannot work in isolation. We are all responsible for this mess. Everyone should share the blame. Not police alone.

It is a fact that there is bad eggs in the police. But, their actions should not justify the recent hatred against the police. Or, let government withdraw the service of police officers across the country, for just 24 hours, and let see how many Nigerians will survive the 24 hours.

It is unfortunate to see society like ours going against police. Just yesterday, governor's forum had a meeting with IGP, during which they ordered him to fish out police officers who killed protesters. Not minding officers who were killed by protesters.

Even number one citizen of the country, while addressing protesters, promised to investigate police brutality against people. Neglecting people brutality against police.

IGP, while having audience with protesters, promised to investigate all their complains. But, refused to speak or complain about his officers killed by protesters.

No government house, in the entire 36 States, that you will not find... Continue reading

Recall that some prisoners were allegedly released by angry Nigerians protesting against SARS and police brutality in Nigeria but their seem to be some mystery surrounding this occurrence.

Personally I am still thinking about how the prisoners escaped from prison while police officers were guarding them but unfortunately, an official statement is yet to be released by the appropriate authorities.

The Nigerian man said that the prisoners at Benin city were not released by end SARS protesters and he added that it is an attempt by some officials who want to taint the end SARS protest.

Politics / See The Nigerians That Moved The Motion For Nigeria Independence From 1921-1960 by Nairablink(m): 8:05am On Oct 01, 2020
Chief Remi Fani-Kayode (1921-1995) was the man who successfully moved the motion for Independence on August 2, 1958.

Anthony Enahoro moved the motion in 1953 which proposed Nigeria's independence in 1956 but was rejected by Parliament and it therefore failed.

FG Declared Thursday as a Public Holiday To Mark The 60th Independence Day

It also resulted in a walk-out by the northern parliamentarians who were of the view that Nigeria was not yet ready for independence.

The tensions and acrimony that came from all these resulted in the infamous Kano riots of 1953.

In 1957, Samuel Ladoke Akintola moved a second motion for independence in 1959 and it was passed by the Federal House but the British authorities refused to assent to it and, consequently, it failed.

In 1958, Remi Fani-Kayode moved the third motion for Nigeria’s independence in the Federal Parliament and asked that Nigeria should be given her independence on April 2, 1960.

The motion was not only passed by Parliament but it was also accepted by the British and was therefore successful.

However, in 1959, the British Colonial authorities needed a few months to put everything in place before leaving Nigeria and Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa moved a motion for a slight amendment to be made to the original 1958 motion that had been passed and approved to the effect that the date of independence should be shifted from April 2, 1960, to October 1, 1960.

60th Independence Anniversary: FG declares Oct. 1 public holiday

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, as public holiday in commemoration of the nation’s 60th Independence Anniversary Celebration.

Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Nigerians on the celebration of the country’s Diamond Jubilee and assured them of Government’s unwavering commitment to the socio-economic transformation of the country.

His declaration was contained in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Barr. Georgina Ekeoma Ehuriah.

Accoy to the minister, “our warmth, welcoming spirit and love as well as the abundant wealth inherent in our human capital and the richness of our land, makes Nigeria unarguably the leading black nation in the world and Africa’s pride and beacon of hope, if we can rally ourselves together to harness our potentials.

“A country of about 200 million people whose natural talent, grit and passion glitter like the precious DIAMOND that we are. Nigerians are sparkling like diamonds in the pack, whether in Academia, Business, Innovation, Music, Movie, Entertainment, Fashion and culture. We are indeed the leading black nation in the entire world and no doubt Africa’s pride and beacon of hope”.

He said though, “celebrating sixty years of independence really calls for pomp and pageantry, but with the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced all nations in the world to think and act cautiously, we cannot avoid the imperative of a low-keyed celebration at this time.

“While wishing Nigerians a fruitful independence celebration, he reminded them of the fact that our founding fathers, in spite of the differences in faith, tribe and tongue came together for Nigeria’s independence.

It was a great moment of joy, for Ebuka as the host of the reality show. He announced Laycon as the winner of the show. But this victory in my own opinion was made possible by the following 5 people and I believe Laycon should show appreciation to them so much irrespective of whatever that transpired between them.

The First Person He Should Give Thanks To is Almighty God.

Laycon should give thanks to God for giving him that greater opportunity over other fellow housemates.

Erica

I know your thoughts right now as I mentioned the name Erica but you have to note this.

Erica might not be the best example at this moment but the truth remains that she played a big role in building Laycon's confidence in the first week in the house when almost all the housemates looked down on him.

Dorathy Wins BBNaija2020 Followed By Laycon -See Analyses of My Predictions

Erica told the housemates never to look down on Laycon because of his physique but rather appreciate him because he is an intelligent young man. Laycon found that much-needed support in Erica at the beginning before things went wrong in their friendship.

Although Erica said a lot of negative things about Laycon later but Laycon still owes her a thank you for standing by him during the first week when all the housemates saw him as someone who didn't deserve to be in their midst.

Vee

At the point when Laycon looked like he has forgotten what brought him into the house due to his feelings for Erica which he couldn't control, Vee came into his life as a caring sister and advised him to stop talking to Erica in order for him to forget about whatever he feels for her and focus on the game so as not to lose control.

This is How To Register For FG N75 Billion MSME Survival Funds

Laycon at many occasions was emotionally drained seeing Erica and Kiddwaya making up. Vee's effort ensured that Laycon was able to rediscover himself in the house and move on.

Ozo

Ozo brought out the best in Laycon just like Laycon also did for him. Both were formidable anytime they worked together in a task, and they won most times.

Icons

Laycon's fanbase is something else.

It is the biggest I have ever seen in the history of Big Brother Naija reality show. I believe by now he must have seen how much people loved him when he was in the house.
