Denilson, fast rising Nigerian genre known as afrobeats, released a pair of new songs this week, “Omalicha” and “Ghetto,” to make afrobeats lovers feel good.

Both songs add a squeaky horn line to the usual lilting melodies that define afrobeats. In “Ghetto,” the beat is scintillating and minimal; “Omalicha” adds a cowbell and a steady, if muted, kickdrum. Denilson sings flirtatious lines in tone so gentle it wouldn’t wake a sleeping baby.
