If you, as a serving corps member, meet the criteria required, why not do so? You can try your luck. Information on test date should be from PTDF which I assume would be sent to short-listed applicants if not advertised on their site. The examination is a CBT-type examination. You can try your skills online from www.pass1time.com where you will find free, useful and similar practise questions. They are timed as you might have on the examination day. You don't need to register on the site. Those who register can take part in Mock exams, ask for the type of questions they want and comment in the forum.

On how reliable the scholarship is; it depends on what you mean by that. It is one of the best scholarships a Nigerian can get. PTDF has been granting scholarship to hundreds of scholars yearly for overseas and local studies at PhD/MSc levels for more than 10 years. They have improved well in terms of the funding (I mean allowee) received by the students. They sponsor people mainly to the UK and France, assist in procuring visa and give return tickets too. They used to help in securing admission (am not sure if they still do that, so you might need to get your admission yourself - Not a big deal thou!). The administration of the scholarship used to be by a foreign company (Univation) but it is now administered locally in an attempt to cut cost so that they can increase on the number of scholars. That has been successful too but I believe the local administrators (like most Nigerian organisations) lack good PR skills. So you might not get the information you need when you ask them or you will hardly get update when you need one. Nevertheless, if you study hard and get the scholarship, you can be rest assured it is a good one.

We all know the many things Nigeria lacks, so when you go abroad and return, please add your own positive quota to the society, not just the engineering/technical skills but human relations and respect for others. I wish you good luck as you prepare.

Bontee: I don't think you need five million computer systems before you can do the E-testing as the exams can be spread over a period with multiple sessions per day.

You are indeed right. It is possible for the children to sit for different sessions of the exams. They can use the CBT centres of universities also. It is also an opportunity to fund higher institutions and secondary schools. They can fund the schools to have large centres that can be used by JAMB even if JAMB will need to pay rent. But JAMB should have informed the public more and make the process as transparent as much as possible. It is wrong however to cancel outright.

Students writing JAMB and Post-UME that will be CBT based can now practice freely available questions online in a number of sites like [url]pass1time.com[/url] and other sites out there. The government should allow innovations to grow. Simply making a right policy will create job for people without the government having to pay any salary. Reps should think of other sides before banning/cancelling or doing any thing.

Those who argue that the students are not ripe for a CBT based exams are not totally right because these same students will be made to do Post-UME and many schools use CBT now. If you have a child preparing for JAMB and post-UME please refer them to the online sites like pass1time.com and passjamb.

First, on the contrary my CGPA is fine, it is not by any means poor. And also about writing post UTME, I don't think that would be necessary, because I have already done that and I have secured the admission even.

Then good for you. You only have a problem of choice from two nice options. If you are not getting "too" old and you are sure of funding for the school. I will say go to study a course that is already accredited. Then keep your mind in one place and don't look back or have regrets. You have made the right choice. No matter what choice you make now is going to be a nice one. You have two golden eggs. Now get up and go. I know a number of guys that graduated from Ife, I think you will have a wonderful time there.

I quite understand how you feel and your situation. It can be a difficult decision when it comes to choosing from a number of options.
What I understand from above is that you are currently in 200L pharmacy but your CGPA or interest is poor.

One thing you should understand is that, success in life is not measured by what course you did. It is a function of how you use what you have. You will find people who read subjects like Engineering, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy etc that are not doing as well as someone who did a less talked about course like Archaeology. So my point is do not take that your going to OAU and doing Engineering is akin to becoming rich or successful. I will say, you can do very great even by doing any course and going to any school. The most important thing is to make good use of your time in the university.

There are lots of distractions in the university like cultism, sex and gangsterism, internet etc. But you can make good use of anything you have and become excellent in life. Based on the conditions that your CGPA is low and that currently, as you claim, that the subject is not accredited, I will say you can go to OAU for the subject. You will have the opportunity to start all over and can work towards topping your class. You can get useful materials online and using the library. You should also make use of the sports facilities and fraternise less with religious activities. You should be godly but not to extremes. You should flock with guys that can improve you. You should make friends with your lecturers and don't plan to hate them because the subject is hard. Try and see meaning in what you are being taught and not try to "cram".

What you should work towards is being among the top in your subject. If you do Electrical Engineering and your CGPA is 3.9 and someone did Zoology and has a CGPA of 4.5, on the graduation day, the zoology guy will get more recognition than you. When you apply for a job with any company, the first class guy is more recognised than you! Regardless of what you did. The same guy can get scholarship to study anywhere in the world and can even become VC of university. So do a course you like and top your class. There are no two ways to success, work hard and pray and you will rule your own little world. In my opinion, they should not have stopped it the way they did. The way JAMB was trying to bring it in phases is the right thing to do. Where a few number of students will sit for the computer based while others go with the paper based. Like that JAMB will learn from how it worked or failed. The politicians will always want to do their way of things, but I suppose they got it wrong now.

If I am not wrong, one of the reasons for halting the process has to do with the contracting out of the technology involved. This can be investigated for any wrong doing without affecting the current sets of students. They also talked of the publicity of the whole thing. I am sure that many of the prospective students are aware of what is in place for them and what choice they had (paper based/CBT not compulsorily one). Another argument might be that some students and even teachers are not "computer literate" enough. I will not agree with the computer literacy thing. How much training did same students need to do Facebook?

When you start something new and create an enabling situation, people will grow into it. Many people will get bring up ideas from it and potentially create job for people like those guys in [url]pass1time.com[/url] where students can practice free CBT questions. If you must get a record from the last row, it is best to use ID that is auto number. Reason is that you may be picking the wrong item especially when multiple users are accessing the table. If you still don't want to use ID, your table contains a date field. Depending on the structure of your date, you can use it to search, (If your date is stored eg as 2009-08-29:12:34:12, it means you will now depend on 'Microseconds difference' in the date to get the last record -THIS MAY NOT BE VERY CORRECT unless there are not many users/records!)

This code should work  SELECT * FROM TABLE1 as T WHERE T.Balance_Date=(SELECT max(Balance_Date) from Table1)
                                                      #and T.User= #eg if Specific User is targeted!

I feel you think you can't include ID auto-number when your table is already existing. You can use ALTER TABLE command on MySQL interface or on PHP MyAdmin. You can even code in VB by searching if ID column exists 1st then Alter if not.

              ALTER TABLE `TABLE1` ADD `ID` BIGINT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY ;

This Adds Column ID as a Primary Key and Auto Increments.

With this you can be confident in the result of

Alternatively (get more complicated thou), You can use TRIGGERS to monitor insert into your table and let the trigger do something like in this algorithm
Create a Table Table1Temp

   Insert Record Inserted into Table1Temp
End of Trigger
After all your insert> The last Item inserted is what is on the Temp Table

I went thru ur question again, it looks like you like need info from the last record.
If you have a table like this  TableA(ID Autoincrement, Col1, Col2, )
you can try something like this:
          select * from TableA where ID in (select max(ID) from TableA)


This should give you the last record if ID is auto increment or you have serialised it somehow.

If I get you right, you are trying to get balances, You don't need to store balances every time, you compute balance when needed.

Lets say your Table is Account_States(TransactionID AutoIncrement, AccountNo bigint, , TType, , Amount Decimal)

If you assume Debits are - and Credits are +ve
The Balance as at when you are posting is:
    select sum(Amount) from Account_States where AccountNo='2099343'
If you have used something AmountDr and AmountCr to mean Debit /Credit respectively
this will work
     select sum(AmountDr) as DebitBalance, sum(AmountCr) as CreditBalance
                       from Account_States Group By AccountNo where AccountNo='2099343'

Like this you only need to store transactions.

Note you can have a table to generate transaction ID separately. The Transaction ID will not need to be AutoIncrement in your accountstatus table, so 1 transaction ID can involve more than 100 records!
