This is an old post but it will be nice to see you participate this time around if it is relevant to you. Pass1Time is mainly for students who cannot afford the costly 3rd party examination software.

This time around students anticipating to take the UTME-JAMB exam in 2017 are welcome to write the mock test. They can even get their JAMB form paid for by Pass1Time and friends! We welcome you to comment here and share your experience there. Please inform people this information would be relevant to.

No one will ask you to pay any money. It will be nice to get Nairaland and members to make this successful. Your supports will be acknowledged and all comments will be taken seriously. Many students have used Pass1Time for the PTDF Overseas scholarships and have commended the examiners. Please have ago and lets have feedback regardless of how you view it i.e. positive or otherwise.

Paaapad1:
@Nairalanda,
I will encourge you to calm down and look trough the bible verses quoted or cited in your own personal copy of the Bible.
Think of what Jehovah is requesting from you as individual, see how it affect you personaly.

You may not reply to this forun.
Thank you
Thanks @Paaapad1. I am as calm as you can expect. Are you referring me to the verses for some medical or spiritual advice? I want you to kindly summarise what you wanted me to go and read here. This will not help only me but others too.

In as much as I want take your words, you need to show me verifiable data of what you are suggesting I do. I mean data of refusing blood transfusion and how helpful it is for us or for God. I want reasoning not simply saying 'the bible says'.

Now we have 2 dataset of how bad blood transfusion can be on Nairaland. I have read 2 behavioural changes as a result of blood transfusion. How I wish some statistician or medics can help gather data on this and verify it's not same kind of India-Nigeria football game of 99-1 against Nigeria and we ended winning. Or the likes of everyone knowing someone who picked up money and vanished. It must be verifiable.

I am not all for argument if you understand me. I want you to demonstrate how helpful or useful practically your suggestions are. Thanks.

Can anyone here that has PERDONALLY take blood confirm or disagree that they have experienced behavioural changes as a result of such? And how long did it last?

I can see you are a Jehovah's Witness (JW) and your comments have thus been based on JW doctrine. You have used the word ingest instead of blood transfusion. Can you categorical make reference to a citation that forbids blood transfusion in the JW bible? Remember, the OP did not say his/her friend ate blood as food. The earliest trace to the practice of blood transfusion was in 1665. Some more than 1000 years after the bible was written. The Bible does not know about blood transfusion. The idea of not allowing blood transfusion came to the JW around 1945.

The importance of blood to God as you are implying or saying here is simply a carry over from the dark ages. How can you prove that blood is more important to God than the brain or sperm or better still şemen? With your selective choice of word to make your argument against blood transfusion, let's extend and call blood 'body fluid'. So, by the bible and your interpretation of it, you mean God forbids human ingestion of the body fluids of another person because it is so important to Him? Am not sure if you are a man or a woman, but do you not "ingest" the sperm of your husband or your wife not "ingest" your sperm? Why is blood more special than şemen? Which of the two carry "life" information than the other?
I agree there are more than one way to treat people for any ailments. Some methods can even be preventive. I will rather you go for any preventive form of medicine so that you do not need transfusion in the first place. If the last resort is to take a transfusion, you may only have 2 choices left. One is to accept it or not.

Accepting blood transfusion to you would mean a violation of the doctrine of JW. That means, if you accept blood, God will not be happy perhaps. It may lead to death. My question to you will then be, is God not happier with a preserver of life?

Just in case you ask me, "how many JW have died for not accepting blood transfusions?". My answer is I don't know in Nigeria. In the US about 150 JW die annually for refusing blood (American Association of Blood Banks). About 900 JW die worldwide as a result.

PS:
I am not trying to say JW doctrine is bad or good. I only want you to reason for yourself. No one point of view is right 100% of the time; and there is always another point of view to anything.

Paaapad1:
What Does the Bible Say About Blood Transfusions?

The Bible’s answer:

The Bible commands that we not ingest blood. So we should not accept whole blood or its primary components in any form, whether offered as food or as a transfusion. Note the following scriptures:

Genesis 9:4. God allowed Noah and his family to add animal flesh to their diet after the Flood but commanded them not to eat the blood. God told Noah: “Only flesh with its soul—its blood—you must not eat.” This command applies to all mankind from that time on because all are descendants of Noah.

Leviticus 17:14. “You must not eat the blood of any sort of flesh, because the soul of every sort of flesh is its blood. Anyone eating it will be cut off.” God viewed the soul, or life, as being in the blood and belonging to him. Although this law was given only to the nation of Israel, it shows how seriously God viewed the law against eating blood.

Acts 15:20. “Abstain . . . from blood.” God gave Christians the same command that he had given to Noah. History shows that early Christians refused to consume whole blood or even to use it for medical reasons.
Why does God command us to abstain from blood?

There are sound medical reasons to avoid blood transfusions. More important, though, God commands that we abstain from blood because what it represents is sacred to him.—Leviticus 17:11; Colossians 1:20.

wale2020:
This is a sensitive topic. My son was admitted in the Hospital and the Doctor said he needs blood. I refuse to comply with his request for blood for my son. After two days the blood shoot up miraculously.

The life of the flesh is in the blood. Whenever you consume blood, you are consuming the life of that individual. That explains why most carnivores are very strong e.g tiger, lion, eagle etc.

Cheers.

Mr Wale,
Can you explain further what you mean here? By "strong" am assuming you meant ferocious or very aggressive or ready to kill.
What I want you to explain is why a lion will eat a sheep and not become dull, sluggish or tamed. Note that most carnivores eat non-carnivores...so if your theory holds any water, we should be having tigers as pets. People who eat crocodile should now be dwelling in the wild. My point, do not explain what you don't know about.

I'm glad your son got better without the need for the blood transfusion. You didn't explain how he got better but that's fine. Did he actually or seriously need a blood transfusion? I want to also believe that the doctors who suggested blood transfusion did all the needed tests and that the blood was not requested as a backup means in case things go wrong.
If you or your relatives are in a position where the medical professionals are recommending something as the best way to save your life or that of your relation, DO NOT OBJECT for reasons you have no clue about. At the least ask from another doctor.
Your wish cannot make someone who needs blood to have it.
Will blood transfusion give you the traits or characters of the donor? I don't know but I don't think so. It's not like you are being cloned or sent under some wierld X-ray. It is more fairy tale than scientific to say you will get any genetic modifications.
Why is the OP's friend wanting to smoke etc? I think that's psychological. Why do other people smoke when they didn't take blood? How did he know the blood was from a smoker? Has he ever tried smoking some long time ago before the transfusion? I think he will get over it soon. If he doesn't then, someone needs to investigate properly to confirm why things went the way they did.

You have more serious things to worry about in blood transfusion. Read more about blood transfusion on the NHS site here:
http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Blood-transfusion/Pages/Risks.aspx
But don't forget about the huge benefits too!

What the science guys say:

Studies have shown that donor DNA in blood transfusion recipients persists for a number of days, sometimes longer, but its presence is unlikely to alter genetic tests significantly. Red blood cells, the primary component in transfusions, have no nucleus and no DNA. Transfused blood does, however, host a significant amount of DNA-containing white blood cells, or leukocytes—around a billion cells per unit (roughly one pint) of blood. Even blood components that have been filtered to remove donor white cells can have millions of leukocytes per unit.

Education / Students Union Government (SUG) An Oxymoron? by Nairalanda(m): 10:48am On Jul 20, 2016
A union is often setup to fight for the rights of the members of a group of people within a community such as a school or a workforce. In the workforce the union will be a trade union for example NUT, NLC etc. The unions challenge the government or authority of the community. In the case of schools, the government will be the school authority.
In Nigerian higher education institutions, the Students Union Government (SUG) exists to fight the rights of students and address other walfare issues. Is it not an oxymoron to say you are a union and a government at the same time?
Is SUG capable of being a government or better a union only? It's strange that almost all international unis use "students union" only. Students of history may say the government in SUG is reminiscent of past military regimes.
Should SUG rebirth to SU or something else? Give your opinions please. Like we do at Pass1Time we like to challenge your intellect, nothing personal or against the SUG.

The chance of landing the job is very slim going by the ratio of 1 to about 34. The chance of getting through the hurdle is like one out of 34 that are shortlisted. Even this was from 1 out 74 or there about that applied. It's the survival of the fittest from the start.
My advice, prepare well for anything coming next ti screen out 33 so you will be among the last men standing.
Step 1: Get fitter and know what NPF is about.
Step 2: Do some aptitude tests e.g. on Pass1Time.com
Step 3: Always be in know of how it's going.
Step 4: Trust you can.
Step 5: Get the job and do it well.
Cheers.

Jobs/Vacancies / Nigeria Immigration Recruitment: How To Pass The CBT by Nairalanda(m): 8:40pm On Mar 25, 2015
Hi guys,
The last Nigeria Immigration Recruitment was paper based and the story of what happened after the recruitment exercise we all know. It is no longer news that the another test will soon come up. The difference is just that it will be a Computer Based Test (CBT). CBT is not something new among Nigerian students nowadays because of its use for different kinds of exams such as JAMB and Post-UME. The format for those who don't know what CBT exams are is that you will be provided a computer to do the test instead of the regular paper and pencil type. You will follow a series of questions on the computer from which you select the correct options from. The worry for any student is often to not get into the examination hall to see the nature of an examination for the first time. To pass the CBT examination, you can follow the following steps.

[1] Get used to computers.
If you don't have your own computer, you will be advised to visit a cafe and get used to the mouse, keyboard and the monitors. If you are the type that browse the internet using phone only, this will be strongly advised. Doing this will give you the confidence to doing exam with a computer.

[2] Check the Immigration website
The immigration website will serve as a reference for you to know the history and news about them. They will have different information that will not only help you for the examination but will also get you to know if it is a place you would actually like to make a career.

[3] Get used to Current News
Most of the CBT examinations will test your current affairs. If you have watched the Who Wants To be a Millionaire TV shows, you will see that you can't read for a current affair exam. However, paying a little more attention to what is going on around you, you would stand a better chance.
[4] Practise few Math Questions
It is very common to have some aptitude tests in recruitment examinations. If you can do aptitude tests and pass within a short time, it shows you are a smart person that can take decisions within a short time, and that perhaps why they include them. You may not be a genius but practising lots of Aptitude test questions, regardless of the examination you are preparing for, you stand a good chance to do better when you see a new set of questions.

[5] Practise timing yourself with CBT questions
You may read every part of the Immigration site but if you don't get test, you never can tell what you have retained. Pass1Time.com is a platform developed by some Nigerian Lecturers and available for anyone preparing for CBT exams. It will be recommended that you try all the immigration tests as well as other exams there. It will give you your scores and the correct answers at the end. Don't deceive yourself though by checking answers first.

Savant: ^^
Yeah CarsonIV. Just like SAT. I also wrote IPS and my score was a top 15 one. But then the scores were skewed such that the average of the top scores was in the 40s and 50s out of 100. It is no rocket science to figure that the exams were negatively marked naija style. Yes, Naija style! Implying that one loses twice the number of wrong answers given. In DMainman's case he's going to lose 24 marks as against the 2.2 marks he should have lost (by rightly calculating the NM) considering the exams had 5 options.

That's is by the way. Like franklino said I also heard that section is divided by 2 afterwards. I fail to see the point. Thank God they're going to take 2 sets this time around.

I doubt there is anything like "Naija Style" in negative marking. Negative marking should ensure you get zero if you shade all options. Examiners decide how they want to penalise you. Some exams say, 2 marks for correct and -1 for wrong answers, etc etc. The www.pass1time style is to rank all scores equally but negative for wrong answers. For example, if a question has 6 options with 2 options correct. Both of the two correct options score you 100% (or 50% each). The remaining 4 wrong options score you -50% of (-12.5% for each wrong answer). Examiners sit and decide the best for their exams. Regardless of the way they mark, the same rules apply to all the candidates, and the best students would still top (ceteris paribus).

2) Call their office.
3) Send them email.
4) If you live not far from their office, go there and inquire.
5) If you did not get anything (worst case scenario, DRESS WELL and print the page and take everything that shows you were shortlisted and take to the venue, as early as possible before the examination.)

There is no need quarrelling or getting angry about responses. People see things differently. You can take a flight to Portharcourt and probably take a bus back. It is worth it, but consider flying a day before so as not to miss the exam as a result of any flight delays etc etc.

Chikogb: please are we gonna answer essays too ? .don't be offended

Hi Chikogb,

In the past, it used to be a combination of MCQ (multi-choice questions) and essays. The MCQs used to be non-specific to your intended course, it covered several areas and included "current affairs". Then, the MCQs were done on OCR exam papers and the essays written on answer scripts just like in WAEC/NECO exams.

It is very unlikely that you will be writing any essays since it is going to be a CBT. You must surely expect MCQs. However, they may make you also write essays and will still be CBT (NO ONE CAN TELL!). Why I said it is unlikely is because of the high number of applicants involved and also it would require more effort to mark essays. So why bother with essays when CBT can easily test your skills sufficiently for the short-list?

What is most important is to keep your head refreshed on those things you did in undergraduate classes (generally not like reading from pali-to-pali smiley ). You should show your writing skills and communicate well. If you are in engineering use the right terms and units. For example, compare these:

(1a) The airfoil is positioned 15 degrees to the horizontal in a wind flowing horizontally.
(1b) The angle of attack of the airfoil is 15 degrees.

(2a) A force of 200 n is required to lift the 20 load.
(2b) A force of 200 N is required to lift the 20 kg load.

Don't expect the marker to try and understand! Check spellings and don't use informal style in writing. You also should avoid words like "lol", "lmao", "hbd" etc..just kidding, I know you will not do that.

With www.pass1time.com, you can try the "Theory type mock exam" to have a feel of what and "Essay CBT" may look like. If I were you, I will try a number of questions and check some terms from my old notes, get current affairs to brush through, know current prices of stuff related to oil and gas, SLEEP well before the exam, be at the exam venue hours before the start (just in case ...), I will check my answers again before submitting and WILL follow instructions and most importantly I WILL NOT PANIC (Why not? You are not alone!). I wish you every success in it.

ignis: Am currently a serving Batch A corper. I applied with my NYSC ID card. I just checked my inbox now and saw a mail from ptdf that I was shortlisted for the aptitude test on 07/12/13. And its stated that I should come with some certificates including NYSC certificate. Pls, will they accept my ID card in place of NYSC cert. On the day of the aptitude test?

You applied with your NYSC ID card and have been short-listed with the same. If I were you, I would not worry if they will not accept my NYSC ID card on the exam date. I'll rather work towards getting more prepared to pass the exam. You just have to bring along everything that can be used for identification. I see no reason why you would be stopped from writing the exam. Unless, perhaps, you get there late, you have issues with your ID photo, you bring illegal materials to the exam hall, you cheat or aim to cheat, etc.

You have paid for the exam and you were on the short-list of a first set of criteria. It is still up to PTDF to still grant the award. The exam is not the award in its self, it is just another means to create an even shorter list. If you score outstanding grade in the exam, you should also be in that shorter list. The final short-list will include those that meet all PTDF requirements and including those of UKBA requirements for UK visa e.g. if you are going to the UK.

If you are still worried however, you can call the PTDF lines on their website. Any information you get from this forum should not be taken as a scripture, your discretion is still advised.

Kind regards.

@Tkakinsy2k,

I think the best thing for you is to try your hands on CBT questions on Numerical questions etc. You can find free timed CBT questions on www.pass1time.com/workspace/?do=wt&FJSAT=2. You can try the mobile version on www.pass1time.com/mobile. Just try your hand on all relevant questions there. It is timed like a normal exam and you will get the answers and your scores after the test. You can also check Honeywell site to know about them very well before the exam and or interview. Good luck with it.

You can practise relevant timed CBT questions for free on http://pass1time.com/workspace/player.php?ref=50. You can try the mobile version on www.pass1time.com/mobile. You don't have to register or pay anything. There are other relevant exams and job tests there too. To pass such exams, you need to get yourself familiar with how CBT exams work. The more you practice, the more you will be settled and can manage time. Good luck with the exams and hope you will pass the job test and the interview too. If you find the practise, useful, please comment to help others too.

nobody is telling u nt 2 apply or nt 2 try applying, bt jst 2 let u knw dt as u ar applyin u shuld as wel knw dt Nigeria is a wacked nd cracked country, nd neva u apply nd put all ur hope in it as if ur lif depends on it, if nt ptdf can giv u d shocker of ur lif witout even telin u anytin. D 2013/2014 shortlited for test scholars can atest 2 dt. A frend of mine dt went 4 d 2011/2012 came bak early dis year, nd i met him in a wedding nd he was naratin 2 me hw ptdf owed them dier one month alowance til dey left uk, dt he cam bak 2 9jeria nd ws stil fightin 4 d allowance, though he later suceeded afta much fight bt ws nt hapy at d long run 4 d pains he went thru witout his monthly alowance while in uk. So as far as 9ja is concern, always brace up urself 4 d worst nd prepare 2 face d pains as u see it as curuption has eaten deep into d economic fabric of d country nd no end in sight 2 it bt rada even getin worse by d day. My prayer is anytim scholars ar goin, let it b dt dey pay dier monthly alowance on time because it is anoda mans country dt dey ar sendin ppl b4 d wil go nd keep ppl dier witout payin dem thereby turnin scholars in2 begar abroad. If u tink it has nt hapend b4, my brodas nd sisters it has hapen. 9ja is indeed a funy country. Y did u think dt 9ja scholars dt ws sent 2 russia recenty ended up in attackin nigerian embasy in russia, i am nt supotin dier actions though, bt who knws 4 hw many months dt dey wr nt payed dier alowance nd maybe on d proces of dyin 4rm hungar as a result of unpaid alowances, 4 dem nt 2 die, dey hav 2 muster courage nd did wht dey did. Hungar can mek ppl turn violent especialy wen dier benefit or alowance dt is due dem is nt paid on time. Why do u think dt ASUU is stil holdin on to d strik even wen d govment hav promis 2 b payin dem 200bilion evry academic sesion. Simply because ASUU no trust d 9ja govment again. Trustin on 9ja govment or anytin der ar partaker of is lik buildin castle in d air. Go ahead nd apply 4 d ptdf bt seek 4 alternative source of fundin if u can

It can be very painful to be sent abroad to suffer. It can also be very painful because its not just the hunger, the cold and the rent too are there if you don't get your allowances on time. However, people still need to take risk in life to progress.

PTDF is not that bad; but with the many things happening in Nigeria, you never can tell what (shocker) will happen. THE MOST ANNOYING THING THAT CAN HAPPEN IS NOT GETTING ANY RESPONSE! You might have started experiencing that already. I think, you guys can discuss these "rumours" during your orientation/induction and make sure you get those you can/should CALL in PTDF when you get abroad. You can make/beg them to make promises that they will answer your calls when you call them (not just email). I still hold the view that the PTDF scholarship is one of the best things that can happen to a Nigerian graduate. Its also not for people to complain only, but its also up to individuals to be responsible in whatever posts they are given. Getting to a post does not make you a god. You are there to do your work and people will depend on your work. There can be a cascade effect of you not doing your part (how and as at) when needed. People forget that they applied to get their jobs and were placed over others only to get to positions and mess up.

Take the "risk", apply and do the exam and pass (Try www.pass1time.com) the first time you tried. If you ask all the successful people, they took risks of different nature in the past. Of the hundreds of millions of sperms, you struggled and risked everything that night to hatch that egg, don't stop now! smiley
Education / Re: 2012/2013 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP (Nigerian Awards) by Nairalanda(m): 4:19pm On Oct 07, 2013
If you want sit for a CBT type scholarship examination, you can try on the Nigerian Number CBT practise site: www.pass1time.com. It is timed as if you are doing the real exam. Also you can try them on your phone. It will give you your scores and answers after the exam. So practise many times before you go for the real exam. They don't charge you any money and you don't even have to register.

The best way to pass a scholarship exam is to prepare very well. Do not be afraid of the exam when you are writing, remember, you are not alone. Good luck with your exams.
